Good night guys.

@jokerdino cya
@nitstorm Hey :D
@RolandTaylor hiya :D
@jokerdino 'night bro

@jokerdino cya
I have to work on a windows system (client) so I'll be quiet today :)...
(Hoping to get them to use Ubuntu btw)
The eighth-born is right
I need better colours
@AmithKK i have no answers :P it works for me?? what is your issue (not working does not qualify as an answer)
@rlemon Uncaught Error: NOT_FOUND_ERR: DOM Exception 8
ok so an element is being accessed before it exists.
what browser
16:05
chromium 17.0.963.56 (Developer Build 121963 Linux) Ubuntu 12.04
solution: use chrome ??
lol, sorry it works for me.. and that entire script is a hack because the site is shittly coded / designed.
I don't think it can be done 'properly' unless I just submit without the form and mock up my own data.. (which I can do, I just didn't think to do it that way)
however that second landing page with the conf is a pain in my butt.
right now i'm working on a flat file blogging system.
@All should I store my data as XML or JSON (leaning towards JSON)
@AmithKK I will get you something this weekend.
It wont work in GreaseMonkey/Firefox either... weird
@rlemon Take your time
Heh.. The confirm part works :D
im' just going to say f-it to the form, and the user login, and assume you've logged in before pressing the button... and just submit the data without the use of the form.
that seems like it's the best solution if you ask me.
16:11
lol
Ok :D

}
think thats efficient enough?

who doesnt
I don't understand why 11.10 won't let me start the bluetooth service ...
have you checked the init scripts for errors?
in 12.04 there was an error at one point
@OctavianDamiean I have bluetooth issues on 11.10 which i didn't have earlier

i need a canned comment for abandoned questions, please!
@htorque May sound stupid but how would I do that?
@htorque Hello, this question has no information and activity for a very long time. I am closing it for now. If by any reason you think this question is still viable or useful in anyways or that there is still a good chance it will be answered please flag it to a moderator or add a comment with the reasons why you want it open. Is there some debug switch.
###[Q]Abandonment!
This question appears to be abandoned and unanswered, could you perhaps add more detail to your question? If this question no longer applies then you can either delete it or answer it yourself if you've solved the problem. Thanks!
@OctavianDamiean gedit /etc/init/bluetooth.conf and use your hacker brain :P
@BrunoPereira @nitstorm thanks

@OctavianDamiean Switching DE from Unity to KDE for the brief period of time to use my bluetooth device is the solution that I use
@htorque Wheeeeww! Using Bluetooth on Ubuntu requires brainz!? OH GAWD!
@OctavianDamiean oh, forget it... that was a problem with restarting the service when /etc/default/bluetooth got BLUETOOTH_ENABLED=0

@htorque That's it. If you put Android and Ubuntu in the same sentence you trigger some kind of switch in my head that makes me a want to pay everything for whatever you tell me to buy.
@OctavianDamiean Wouldn't the fusion of Android and Ubuntu become... Androibuntu?
More like Ubuntoid.
neither of those names sounds nice
Ubuntoid® does.
hi , do i need to register at launchpad ? for ubuntu cleanup , it says login with your askubuntu id
17:36
@OneZero "askubuntu id" means whatever you use to login to Ask Ubuntu with, preferably an OpenID
i use gmail account to login
That is an OpenID login then.
Google is an OpenID provider.

Q: High resolution in Thinkpad T60 with ATI X1400

@OctavianDamiean et all, I think it was probably on meta, just someone giving their opinions on flags, not in any official capacity
I am exited about the cleanup.
you're *exit*ed about the cleanup?
don't you mean excited?
something along the lines of you should try to clean it up, or vote on it, rather than flag it, but obviously there are always cases that can't be cleaned up
18:02
Exited is quite an interesting condition.
i'm exited. there is no more going forward. only back.. I feel so RoR
I'm so Exited you can call me "Fire Escape"
I was quite miffed when flag weight disappeared, I was well on my way to 250 weight or whatever it was :p

A: After paying for my music ubuntu-one-music-store tells me my network is down, yet it's not!

WilliamSorry, but Ubuntu One questions don't generally belong on Ask Ubuntu. You might want to shoot and email over to the Ubuntu One support team over at one.ubuntu.com - there's contact information listed there. If it turns out that it's a bug, the appropriate place to file a bug is over at launchpad....

yay
puts Windows ME onto @OctavianDamiean's virtual machines
slaps @ThomasWard with a huge plush Tux
does one more even worse thing and replaces @OctavianDamiean's system with Windows ME, then physically disables USB and CD/DVD drive support
physically disables @ThomasWard for doing that
:P
this solidifies my evil :p

I'm sure it is against the CoC to do what you just did to me. :D

but the agreement you signed said that i was allowed to subject your computer to a form of cruel and unusual punishment :/

but yeah, that would be a form of cruel and unusual punishment :/
From this answer (askubuntu.com/a/107042/2079): "Ubuntu One questions don't generally belong on Ask Ubuntu"
is there any truth to that statement?
@michaelms its a case-by-case analysis
if the quesiton is "How do I sync my files from Ubuntu to Ubuntu One?"
its on topic
if the question is "How can I use Ubuntu One to sync my Ubuntu files to my phone?" it toes the line
19:19
If it is a bug it is never on topic.
if the question is generally anything else relating to Ubuntu One, then its a tossup
But generally speaking U1 questions are fine on AU.
also, what Octavian said
Also, don't trust @ThomasWard. He has just installed Windows ME on my machine!
19:21
haha :)
@OctavianDamiean actually...
i swapped out your hard drive for a blank one
your system is still whatever OS you had installed
i just removed the drive temporarily xD
returns the original hard drive to @OctavianDamiean
No one will ever notice the difference between a system with an empty drive and Windows ME.
3
the question i linked to could probably be closed as it's related to a U1MS bug but questions about purchasing music through the U1 music store in either Banshee or Rhythmbox would generally be on-topic, right?
k, thanks. just making sure
(also, does Stack Exchange markdown also work in chat?! that's exciting)
19:23
@michaelms Most Ubuntu One questions are on topic, unless it's a bug or relates to account issues
@MarcoCeppi this one seems to be a bug
and has a corresponding bugfix released
bugs are "too localized" correct?
off-topic
@MarcoCeppi and as @William has officially failed today, i believe you should teach him about what is/isnt offtopic on AU ;P
shoot. i never remember! :)
19:26
How do we handle questions that don't seem to have an answer for a very very long time?
If we can't answer them ofcourse
edit it so it shows up at the top
or bounty it
bounties usually work
@ThomasWard Roger that
even if they're small
50 rep bounty goes a long way
indeed
'tis my method when i have enough rep above a specific limit i have]
19:28
Ok, wth!?
(my minimum is 3k rep, so i won't ever put bounties out that take me loewr than that)
@OctavianDamiean explodified Windows ME?
:P
Something makes Ubuntu believe that I keep pressing the left mouse button.
It won't let me do anything ...
awesome ...
That was not something it was Chromium crashing ...
could you reverse the order?
I can do anything you want @ThomasWard
19:39
Nice!
that statement could be interpreted in several different ways o.O
Reverse the order and Ubuntify it.
Also, if you did percentage complete based on the days left in the current states :)
indeed.
So, BETA1 would be like 88%
19:41
^ that
well, 82.14% technically
Guys, what is gramatically correct? OS's or OSs ??
Operating Systems
@MarcoCeppi so what should my start date for the calculation for them all should be 2010-04-26
what marco says.. OSs
19:43
@rlemon no, it should be the end date for the previous milestone
@rlemon @MarcoCeppi Roger that :D
in this case 2012-02-02
i agree with @Marco, each specific release is based off of the previous milestone date
since in only one week beta1 will be completed and released... :P
@MarcoCeppi so beta 1 should start at the end of alpha 2 or ui freeze
so 2012-02-02 to 2012-03-01 is 28 days. We're 5 days away, that puts us at 17 percent remaining, or 82% complete :)
19:44
@Marco's right
ohhh you're talking alpha 2
See i took the freeze as the end date
my bad.
better?
is it understood that the end dates end at 23:59 and the start dates start at 1:00
looks good to me
yep
now if we could just have ascending as the default... :/
lol
you can't bookmark ?asc
lol
set cookie for default_sort :)
19:49
and can you center the "71% complete" thing within ithe entire indicator, rather than just the completed indication-bar?
Psh, users are dumb and lazy - you have to do everything for them
</picky>
and no, I can't bookmark ?asc
ffox doesnt like it
[REDACTED]
@ThomasWard ok here you go
wonderful
19:51
now ubuntify it!
12 mins ago, by Octavian Damiean
Reverse the order and Ubuntify it.
i'm not the one that asked for it to be ubuntified ;P
Ubunftified.
@Oli yo yo
if you're interested in sprucing up the cleanup thing

Q: My laptop doesn't always boot to login

GUI JunkieI have an recurring problem. Every once in a while, no pattern, the laptop freezes during boot. Sometimes at a black screen, sometimes a black screen with a not blinking cursor... is the best way to retain whitespace / linebreaks / tabs in a text string (php) to urlencode it?
Do not close questions that are answered! It will hurt, I promise!
@nitstorm or do nothing
@BrunoPereira this is true
I have a textarea and I want to retain all indenting + tabbing + line breaks when storing it in a json string.

I am looking at an image of Windows 98 SE atm and thinking about the "why is terminal so awesome?" question we had recently, if terminals and GUI's where coins a terminal would be worth at least 1000 GUIs, no matter which one you like.

Hi mighty mouse
true bruno. I would put my terminals in the bank, earn interest on them and then stackexchange them for GUIs which i would sell to newcomers
