Can someone please explain to me what they think makes my logo bad so I can improve it?
@rlemon Stupid Chome!
Stupid room! Y U NO Talk?
@all Stupid people! Y U NO Talk?
facepalm
Is it just me or is this REALLY COOL?
Does anyone else think it's awesome?
I am the last man alive!
NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
01:19
I am now going for the record for the most consecutive messages in a row.
But of course someone is going to interupt me.
But then I won't be lonely again.
So, starting now,
I am going to kep rambiling
until someone has the nerve to stop me.
First off,
My name is William,
and I consider myself special.
I am so special I write my autobiography
on chat sites.
A lot of people are going to star
akward things that I say within here
but that's okay
because that's what starring is for.
I think that Unicorns are awesome.
Unicorns FTW.
I also hate abbreviations.
Somewhat hypocritially because I use them so frequently.
I also hate netbook keyboards,
and it still puzzles me to this day why messages in chat change colors as they come in.
Some one is going to look att the (x) number in front of "Ask Ubutnu Genral Rool"
and wonder what the heck is going on.
But then they're going to realize it's just crazy William,
lose intrest, and switch back to whatever they were doing.
But that's okay too.
I am actualy quite pleasntly suprised that no one has interjected yet,
so I might as well keep going.
When I type on a keyboard, I press the keys abnormally hard.
Therefore I have to press keys several times on my laptop for them to register.
I love Internet Memes,
The "You can perform this action again in 3 seconds" is really annoying.
and all the other random stuff the internnet comes up with.
Oh! Now I can perform it again in 6 seconds!
But then again it runs on Windows, so it's no different then any of the other windoze machines that hate me.
The server must hate me.
This website is made in ASP.net,
which my Dad is learning.
I told him he was wasting his time and to go learn python.
Or PHP or any other languages, but just not a Microsoft one.
Becuase after a couple years they'll change all the commands so that everythingyou've done isn't compatible with the new version.
Like what they did with VB6.
Which, by the way, I am still not over what they did.
And then they ditched me again when I bought my Zune.
Best Buy has the galaxy player 5.0 on sale for 20 dollars off this week.
I am very intrigued, but I don't come across much money as a kid.
And I can't put music on my Zune from UBuntu, and I can't use whine.
Thanks, Microsoft.
Too many consecutive messages you say?
*sings: "I'm only gettin' started.. dun deh dun dun dun dunn."
Anyway, I love getting off topic.
I do so very easily and can go to topics which seem totally unrelated.
Yet, if you ask, I am happy to explain how it is related.
I need to learn javascript someday just because off all the cool random stuff everyone posts to JSfiddle.
Then I can make wheel of blames.
Which, by the way, @AmithKK, good job on that one.
I wonder what the most consecutive record is for most consecutive messages.
especially at 1024 by 600.
This looks pretty long on a netbook,
See y'all in an hour.
Or should I say, all Y'all.
And DONT MESS UP MY RECORD!
01:47
hey I am installing a reverse proxy with ubuntu and apache2
I look at two different tutorials
but they both go two different routes for the reverse proxy
First tutorial says to run sudo a2enmod proxy and sudo a2enmod proxy_http and then change virtual host like this:

<VirtualHost *:80>

ServerName your-public-domain.com

<Proxy *>
Order deny,allow
Allow from all
</Proxy>

ProxyPass / http://your-private-domain.com/
ProxyPassReverse / http://your-private-domain.com/

</VirtualHost>
Second tutorial says run a2enmod proxy_http and change the virtual host to this:

ProxyRequests Off
ProxyPreserveHost On
<Proxy *>
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Proxy>
ProxyPass /subsonic/ http://localhost:8180/subsonic/
ProxyPassReverse /subsonic/ http://localhost:8180/subsonic/

Note in the second tutorial they introduce the ProxyRequests and ProxyPreserveHost directives whereas in the first tutorial they dont. First tutorial introduces ServerName directive whereas the second tutorial doesnt.
so my questio is which is the right way to do it?
02:53

@GeorgeEdison And what exactly has she proved?
That she can be a bigger jerk then everyone else?
@William What are you talking about?

What about it?
03:02
Honestly, all se did was make herself look like a jerk.
See my comment.
Jessica Ahlquist.
Ah, I get it now.
I just didn't realize the context of your comment.
I hate these kind of discussions.
Always end in an argument.
I dislike those arguments because the other side tries to pull the legs out from under me claiming that Creationism isn't "science" or that it isn't testable. Both are completely wrong.
03:16
Evolution is a religion, pure and simple.
I wish others realized that.
Yep.

Nope.
No mods.
Posted in the Ubuntu Regulators room, hopefully they'll see it when they log in :)

@GeorgeEdison Thanks :)
04:25
How long does it take for my rep on the main site to sync with meta?
Usually 1-4 hours.
4 hours!
Yikes!
04:41
You have to realize that the SE network gets a lot of traffic so a lot of information is cached to reduce load on the servers.
K. But really - at 10 pm?
The fact that the room is silent testifies.
@user47330 The chat is independent of the site and Meta.
IIRC, they don't even run on the same server.
Still, there's not much activity on the ste either.
And they are correlated.
04:55
They are correlated but if I also remember correctly, all SE 2.0 sites share a database server.
That's a lot of collective traffic.
The bird is back!
And with a screenshot too!
Cheer!

Q: Is there a way to lock command line?

RogachFor example, in X session, I can use C-M-l to lock the screen, so it would ask for password to unlock and prevent somebody from messing with mine computer. But if I have an open terminal session on one of the tty's (which I can access with C-M-F1, for example) - then it is not locked, and somebo...

I now have a pre-alpha version of StackApplet 1.6.
i've been up 3 hours past my tolerance of sleep deprivation

06:47
you can blame coding for that
@ThomasWard Okay, I'll catch you tomorrow.
It's not that serious.
no i'm still awake for a while
considering i am still hyped on coffee
@GeorgeEdison any known bugs yet?
Not yet.
I have something to show you (completely unrelated, but...):
I'm planning to deploy that on my home page soon.
ooh pretty
Most of the links are dead, but the home page is the real focus.
06:49
its nice
Thank you.
Better than the current home page?
indeed
(btw, home.quickmediasolutions.com(:80) should redir to just quickmediasolutions.com)
home.quickmediasolutions.com is just an A record for my IP address :)
It makes it easy for me to show people stuff quickly.
06:56
i see
sounds just like how i have my domain(s) set up
except they're much more restrictive :P
i always have a subdomain with an A (or in my case, a CNAME) to my home IP address (a dynamic one because i cant afford a static IP atm)
What advantage does a CNAME have over an A record?
Just curious.
<--- Doesn't know much about DNS.
well in my case I have a DynDNS pro account since i have more than one dynamic-IP net
in this case, aurora.trekweb.org CNAME dn36a.homeunix.com
and homeunix.com is a DynDNS hostname
which is updated by my router on IP changes
Ah, that makes sense.
07:02
so if my ip is 2.3.4.5, and then changes to 3.4.5.6...
Yeah, my router offers that functionality too - but my IP address only changes if I unplug the modem for a few hours or renew the address.
aurora.trekweb.org is interpreted as "This is an alias for dn36a.homeunix.com. Use that."
...so it is essentially permanent.
heh
i dont have a UPS on this net
so i dont have backup power in case power goes out here
And if it changes, I have a low TTL for the subdomain :)
07:03
(which can sometimes happen)
yeah the TTL for aurora.trekweb.org is at i think 500...
shrugs

Q: Can we have a feature where downvoting is only possible if the user has left a comment?

nitstormThis is a feature request that I'd like to see. Sometimes down-voting is done without leaving proper comments or reason. The person next-in-line commenting on the post telling them what's wrong might be misjudged for down-voting. This tends to be unpleasant for both the parties. Apart from that, ...

It is a myriaplicate.
@OctavianDamiean Too big of a word for me to understand..
It is a question with myriads of duplicates. ;)
@OctavianDamiean LOL :P but nothing of that sort came up when I chose the title on Meta
It is on Meta.SO. I'm trying to find it right now.

Q: Why not force a comment when down-voting an answer?

Emmad KareemWhy not let the site force the user to enter a comment (of min. 20 chars. or so) when demoting an answer?

Some are listed in Anna Lear's answer.
@OctavianDamiean Thanks, makes sense about anonymity and bypassing with gibberish..

Night all.
Hi.

It would be nice to have an Ubuntu frisbee. Could be used in Ubuntu face-to-face events in summer. Paul Sladen asked me on IRC how much I would pay for such a frisbee. I would say something between 15 to 25 US Dollars.

I don't know how it works but I don't see why it would have to be more than just an application running on the phone. Otherwise it's going to be a real pig to release.
But I've just read Jono Bacon's post on the planet where he says "If you are a handset maker or network operator, get in touch." which makes it sound like it does need to be root-installed.
TBH I'd be happy just being able to sync content with my Android phone wirelessly or via USB. The network, messaging, photo/video and screen syncing looked awesome.

A: Where can I get the Ask Ubuntu speech bubble logo?

Octavian DamieanI've made a proper SVG version of the logo. It is in 512x512. The logo is still intellectual property of Stack Exchange inc. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?> <!-- Created with Inkscape (http://www.inkscape.org/) --> <svg xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/el...

@AmithKK Do you know how to change voice accent of recorded audio or video?
@Rock Use a Vocoder
@OctavianDamiean octavian means eighth-born! :D
I'm aware of the meaning of the name, I just didn't know about the story in Spiderman. :D
i'm not sure a speech-bubble can be intellectual property?
ah! :D
A speech-bubble with the words ask on it can be. ;)
12:40
neither did i - not a spiderman fan
batman owns spiderman

dammit, i fail to reproduce a bug
that one pixel white dot bug?
right
tried a lot, no luck - maybe it's just some random rounding error
At least you don't have your upper left edge all screwed up like I do.
@OctavianDamiean What's the issue?
And, to everyone on 12.04, is Ask Ubuntu lens working?
@htorque However you can't protect the speech-bubble itself. No one can tell me I may not draw a speech-bubble. :D
12:47
i'm sure in the US you can patent it :D
If someone does I'll draw a speech-bubble saying, Well, screw you!
i want a "letter e" patent :P
I want a patent on solders

@rlemon I'll freely admit it looks like a load of faffing around but it's actually a lot cleaner than a standard plunger and about a billion times tastier than drip/peculator. And quicker than all three.
The only time I don't use it is if I'm making more than a few cups of coffee at once in which case I'll just use the French press.

@Oli in gparted what should my flags be?
just boot?
Oli
Oli
@rlemon Erm, I'm not sure you even want to partition it. Just dd to the device.
That will nuke everything on the disk (so copy off any data you need)
Note: I might be completely wrong.
what is my dd command?
sudo dd if=/path/to/bsd.fs of=/media/thumbdrive/???
Oli
Oli
@rlemon No the of will be to a /dev/sdx device (note, not sdxn) and you can find out which one that is from gparted. You'll want to unmount it before you start, too.
@MarcoCeppi around?
14:53
sudo dd if=/home/rdl/Downloads/i386memstick-5.1.fs of=/dev/sdc
