I'm confused why this closed question made the reopen list: askubuntu.com/review/reopen/645588 because it's never been edited. Nor does it say who voted to reopen it and why??
@Zacharee1 ^^^^^
is it an audit
So I voted to close it in the first place... they should have used a different question?
Anyway... thanks for the audit answer it explains a lot :)
Woot! Completed my answer! Yay! askubuntu.com/a/852446/231142
When I read that question this morning my "comment" was going to be 8GB but min 20GB and happy with 30GB :)... Your answer looks very nice BTW!
@Terrance If you don't mind me asking, why use XTerm instead of plain terminal?
That's what it installed. I didn't tell it to do anything.
00:09
ah ok... so it's a Ubuntu server thing then?
That would be my guess. When I press the Ctrl+Alt+T, that's what comes up.
I have an extra laptop doing nothing... It would be cool to install Ubuntu Server on it except I have no clue of what practical application I could have it run.
randomly spawns
I run desktop at home and I run my video server of Plex out of mine.
Yeah I don't have any videos, so that option is out :(
00:13
Just easier for my DVD collection is all.
Hmmm... that sounds interesting. I do have 60 GB in music I could throw on a server. Not sure what good it would do though...
Your own cloud type server where your player could play it all. I know Plex supports that too, but I haven't tried it yet.
Well that's a good idea... People at work ask me about various songs I have... so I could make my own cloud accessed by me or them or anyone else? Then again I guess that is illegal.
There's a convo going on here about that sharing with others: forums.plex.tv/discussion/175424/…
00:30
@Terrance I'm doing my review queues right now but I'll check it out later.
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Sounds good. :)
Ugghhh I posted a comment that a user's first answer was great! I failed the audit because they said I should have up-voted it!: askubuntu.com/review/first-posts/645594 The audit is flawed if it thinks every comment is negative and possitive ones can't be made.
tsk tsk :P
I wish you could see my comment and retract the fail :p
@WinEunuuchs2Unix yeah that doesn't seem right.
00:40
@Seth Well thank you for that.... I should have clued in though because the answer was posted by a no-name with a shadowy icon of a human.
01:08
@Seth did you get it?
Get what?
bootloop
oh. no.
or at least, not yet.
wrt the 5X people are reporting them after the OTAs. Apparently there is no temperature control during an update so it is easy to overheat the devices and break cheap internal components (thanks LG)
hmm
@Seth all three of those phones have the 808 though
so that could have quite a bit to do with it
probably some of the same components other than the processor
is that the processor that had the overheating concerns?
01:12
@Seth that was the 810
808 was purposely used on the V10 because of that
ah
I'm thinking that, since the V10, G4 and 5X all use the 808, they probably also share some other things, like that "loose connector" or whatever
The V20 and G5 have 820s, which are really efficient. I was streaming Spotify, using Maps navigation and charging all at once today, and the phone barely got warm
well you can hope.
The connector, as far as we know (LG never made a helpful official statement) has to do with the processors 2 "big" cores.
If you disable 1/both of them the bootloop stops.
Or at least that was the G4's case.
01:17
well that would support my hypothesis
it would.
Haha I tried to post a comment: "This question is being flagged as "too broad" but based on comments the knee-jerk reaction would be "EOL" as reason." and the queue review says "THIS IS AN AUDIT"... to this link: askubuntu.com/review/close/645605
02:00
@Zacharee1 Dash charge is awesome, BTW.
how fast
@Zanna sorry for asking this dummy questions, but I saw some of the questions in SE sites starts with "So I'm", "So I've been" etc. Is it rightly according to Oxford standard or just used for spoken or chatting only. thanks =)
@Zacharee1 I can usually recharge from empty in an hour - while continuing to use it.
0-100 in an hour????
I told you it's awesome.
Although I never run it to completely empty.
More like 10%-100%.
02:06
how low
ah
well that's still really fast
how hot does the phone get though
It doesn't.
o_O
what sort of voltage/current?
The circuitry for transforming the voltage is in the charger instead of the phone.
@Zacharee1 4A, IIRC.
@NathanOsman Isn't it usually?
@NathanOsman that's... a lot
No. At least I don't think so...
02:08
@NathanOsman do you mean the 5V -> 4.4/3.8,etc conversion?
> "By shifting the power management system and heat dispersion elements to our Dash Power Adapter, very little heat ever reaches your OnePlus 3T."
hmm
why isn't this a standard?
You have to use their special AC adapter though.
although, can you even charge it with another power supply?
But it's a fair trade-off.
@Zacharee1 Yes, but then you run into the usual problems.
Slower charge, heat, etc.
02:09
normal charging, ugh :p
So why isn't Dash Charge a standard? Is it proprietary?
I'm not sure. Good question.
I mean, QC 3.0 is nice and all, but it doesn't seem to compare
wonder what QC 4.0 will be like
supposed to introduce some nice safety features
oh wait, Dash Charge probably uses 9V too
that might be the conversion
> "Oppo has its own quick charging technology called VOOC, which you'll find in the likes of the Oppo R9 and the Oppo F1 Plus. Dash Charge is essentially a licensed version of that, but with OnePlus's own name attached."
Interesting.
Oppo is their parent company... I think?
yup
why would OP need to license from its parent?
Oppo is a subsidiary of BBK
Probably more to do with paperwork than anything monetary.
02:14
hmm
VOOC is such a derpy name
"hang on, lemme just use my vooc charger"
Apparently QC 4.0 can do 5 hours charge in 5 minutes
and 50% in 15
but I have no idea what size battery
why can't anything ever be simple
ah 2750mAh
@Seth money
use configure, make, make install they said. there is no configure file or makefile IN ANY OF THE DIRECTORIES
lol
@Seth is there an autogen.sh?
nope
02:17
@Seth Make doesn't always need a Makefile.
^that too
@NathanOsman regardless it has no targets..
Create a file named test.c in a directory with the contents "int main(){}" and then run make.
hello all :)
there is a configure.ac file, so I assume that generates configure.. but it won't run.
I might be missing a directory.
02:18
@Ravan Hey, how's it going?
hi @Ravan! :)
@Seth Do you have autotools installed?
@NathanOsman I have build-essential installed.
that doesn't install autotools if I remember right
Let me see which package you need...
02:19
stupid fresh installs haha
I think autoconf is the package you need.
I may have just found more detailed instructions
here's a question
why do I have read access to /etc/hosts without root on my phone?
ES says it's writable too o_O
well time to try AdAway
02:34
It needs to be readable for DNS resolution.
As for writable... that's a bug.
well it doesn't save :/
says it does, but no change
time to install AdClear I guess
02:51
@Zacharee1 Read access is needed for DNS in genera. Writable is a 'bug' but perhaps the kernel/system is overriding the file

@ThomasWard usually the directories are blank
so /etc/ wouldn't have read at all
it may still have read rights even if the dir is blank
just sayin, there's nothing preventing read perms ;P
I was more surprised that I could see it
duh the file has read rights
but the folder?
necessary for system to traverse probably.
02:59
it isn't possible on other Androids
at least since 5.0
yay
found an install script on their website that worked
@ThomasWard isn't that the execute bit tho?
@Seth execute bit lets you go into the folder. +r is still needed for a dir listing
ah
03:20
Interesting wiki thingy: "When a directory's sticky bit is set, the filesystem treats the files in such directories in a special way so only the file's owner, the directory's owner, or root user can rename or delete the file. Without the sticky bit set, any user with write and execute permissions for the directory can rename or delete contained files, regardless of the file's owner. Typically this is set on the /tmp directory to prevent ordinary users from deleting or moving other users' files.

@Zanna, narrowed down, but still pretty much unanswerable. "and understand the source code of Dia." Is not true I am sure :) askubuntu.com/questions/852132/…
@JacobVlijm he simply wants to know whow to compile dia, he hshall RTFM
and good morning all together :))
@Videonauth Hi, Good morning! He's got a funny way to ask that.
07:33
morning || afternoon || evening
btw is there a better option for autopep8 ?
@JacobVlijm yeah idk if it's answerable but my interpretation is that they just want someone to tell them how to compile it
final aim: understand source code, not our responsibility hahaha
@Zanna even to braod fro ultra-patient users, there is only one option to understand source, reading it and having enough knowledge to folow the coding along
07:55
@Videonauth yeah indeed, and testing it out for yourself... teachers can help with explanation along the way though :)
@Zanna to make steam run in most of the cases :
#!/bin/bash
mv ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1{,.disable}
mv ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6{,.disable}
mv ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpcre.so.3{,.disable}
mv ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpcre.so.3.12.1{,.disable}
mv ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libtinfo.so.5{,.disable}
but that diesnt fix the libGL error
hey nice expansion
just looks more clean and prevents me from having to type alot :D
fact is that steam brings along all the needed libraries instead of using the optimized ones from the OS
so renaming them forces steam to use the ones the OS has
i am curious why i didn't have to do all that when i run steam
bad thing is, if you ever go and verify any game cache or steam is updating you have to redo those commands
@edwinksl you propably installed the one from the repo
08:08
oh that's right
why would people not install it from the repo then?
@Videonauth yeah same as the LD_PRELOAD thing
but if you go and use the one from steams website you'll most likely to run into errors
@edwinksl they come from windows where you go to a website, download the installer and run it
and steam doesnt say hey theres a repo for your system
classic windoze
(@Videonauth I was trying to dupe it to the question I answered haha)
because it looks like the same error
the swrast error hangs together with drivers for the GPU
08:11
when folks say "that didn't work" I always wonder if they made a typo...
good to know the repo version behaves properly! maybe we should just suggest that folks install that instead hahaha
well i have been telling people to do that whenever i can
smart
http://askubuntu.com/questions/614422/problem-with-installing-steam-on-ubuntu-15-04
or
http://askubuntu.com/questions/654566/steam-doesnt-start-libgl-error
or
http://askubuntu.com/questions/771032/steam-not-opening-in-ubuntu-16-04-lts
or google again google.de/…
i might have mentioned this before, but steam is such a PITA that it is the only stickied post in r/archlinux reddit.com/r/archlinux
08:15
hahaha
yeah I think I included the suggestion from that post in my answer
smart
thanks to you!
:\\\
same as @Videonauth's suggestion, only it says to rm the libs instead of gracefully mving them
yeah i did that just in case it becomes incompatible with the OS libs
so i can revert back if i have to
which is most unlikely but you never know
i hope they make it better when they update their client for steamOS 2.0
which is based on 16.10
08:19
better not to burn things imho
the old steamOS was based on 14.04
so a much needed update
I will edit my answer since we're on the subject
fact is this swrast.so driver question pops up again and again
there are so many already here on the site that merging them all into one would be a moderators nightmare
hmmm... I remember cleaning up the git-all posts and the c-state bug posts with jokerdino :) :)
@Zanna why does your "Arch forum post" point to meta.askubuntu.com/questions/1137/how-do-i-accept-an-answer
08:26
eds you used numpy before? does it have support for verctors and vector math?
hmm why does "below" annoy me as in "run the below commands" or "error as below"? I always change them to "these commands" "this error" if I am editing the post anyway... I mean, obviously the thing is below where else would it be
@edwinksl wth?! hahaha
@Videonauth yes and yes
cool thanks then i might have a read into
@Zanna yeah not sure what happened there... i blame lack of sleep
gah -.- now to find a way how i can get the usable size of a window with pygame
08:34
@edwinksl haha that link has been there for months!!! I can't even find the post it was meant to point to!
anyway I edited
oh the link is in the comments o.O
you're right @edwinksl i should just go back to bed and stay there until Spring
no that is not how it works, you are supposed to be here
haha <3
09:07
@Zacharee1 okay, I finally got something hooked up to my chat script server. Next time the script stops working, the monitoring service should immediately notice and restart the server.
If at any point, you see my script not working, feel free to ping me.
Because that should never happen.
@ThomasWard interesting discovery - OpenVPN can be insecure if you aren't aware that the default configuration doesn't forward IPv6 traffic. I have it up and running on my desktop but it is only forwarding IPv4 traffic through the VPN.
I wonder if the Docker container could be made to forward IPv6 traffic as well...

Q: Mail security on a shared server

blade19899I have a shared server with multiple user on it. I'm trying to secure their E-mail connection with a wild card certificate. I added the key in /etc/exim.key and the certificate bundle in /etc/exim.cert. Restarted Exim and dovecot. And on a [email protected] everything worked fine. But, th...

@blade19899 crazy indeed
@Jakuje: Hi, can we talk about askubuntu.com/review/suggested-edits/645685? ;-P
I hope that was a fluke. If not, please don't approve edit suggestions that remove information provided by the author of a question (unless they're unrelated or duplicated).
haha funny i reviewed this just this moment
10:14
"Zanna has approved 608 edit suggestions and rejected 235 edit suggestions and improved 261 edit suggestions" hmmm @Videonauth you are a lot kinder than me haha
@Zanna huh ?
@DavidFoerster I think that ping will not work as Jakuje hasn't been in chat?
stats:

Videonauth has approved 1147 edit suggestions and rejected 115 edit suggestions and improved 44 edit suggestions
David Foerster has approved 4063 edit suggestions and rejected 867 edit suggestions and improved 768 edit suggestions
Jakuje has approved 294 edit suggestions and rejected 35 edit suggestions and improved 4 edit suggestions
@Zanna: Maybe but that is my best way to reach him or her.
maybe this is simply that i had good edit sugestions to review, for example from a user called @Zanna
haha <3
I was going to say maybe you are luckier with the suggestions, but thanks for that! :D
10:26
...Slowly finding out that maintaining 11 ppa's could easily make a day's job :)
shall I edit out the version askubuntu.com/questions/852624/… ?
i don't understand why OP would want to do such a thing lol
hahaha the world is full of such mysteries...
@DavidFoerster they won't get a notification @DavidFoerster so they will never know you mentioned them? You need a mod to super-ping them...
@edwinksl Are they just looking for a boot splash?
@Zanna I know. I just hoped that Jakuje might have visited the chat. Otherwise there's nothing I can do.

@terdon No, I don't think so since they want the image for exactly 3 minutes.
@Videonauth Looking at the tag descriptions – reject! They're either unrelated or too generic
not sure how to feel about just adding tags as an edit
thanks
@Videonauth Why? There's even a shortcut button that lets you edit the tags without editing the rest of the question once you hit a certain rep level.
In this case, I quite agree that the tags were kind of useless, but in general, edits that fix tags are fine.
@DavidFoerster Sorry, my bad. Thanks for the notice.

Q: ELF loader for Cortex-M processors

Mark Yisri Note: before you say it, this is not a duplicate of this. I want a specific library. I want an ELF loader that can relocate PIC (Position Independent Code) on Cortex-M processors. There is no MMU and relocations on Thumb/Thumb-2 code are required. Traditional ARM won't work.

help please
12:49
no clue here @MarkYisri
yeah, I can't find anything
13:30
@SmokeDetector lol wut
one post got deleted and he was able to span in another one lol
Not anymore.
@terdon I bet lol
That's my mouse finger. The one I use to destroy spammers.
ouch that must hurt :p
13:33
@Videonauth He is also playing the guitar
smokersworld.info huh
yeah one hell of a fuzzy guitar too
oh @JacobVlijm since youre here, do you have a moment? would love you to peer review my code and tell me if i did any major mishaps python wise paste.ubuntu.com/23521900
@Videonauth I'd love to, but would you mind if I look tonight? I want to finish something and have to teach this afternoon :)
@JacobVlijm no rush mate
i rushed to get it done from scratch to have a test go at pygame
@Videonauth cool :)
13:36
took me from zero to programm around 4 hours
@NathanOsman Considering I don't have IPv6 configured at all and my DNS only returns v4 results right now that's not a huge issue.
@Videonauth That' s not too bad! while programming, the clock seems to turn faster :)
but you aren't wrong. that applies to a lot of VPNs right now though
@JacobVlijm indeed, this is why i timed it with a stopwatch
:)
@Videonauth I am slow usually. neurotic compulsive, but slow
13:40
well i wanted to know how i can adapt to a given problem (create a snake game)
its very basic but functional
not sure if this is really spam or simply a clueless user
@Videonauth the linked site is pretty slow... I could believe it's a Flash site
yeah it didnt even load on me properly, maybe because of the fact i have turned of JS execution for unkown sites
13:55
@Videonauth I don't think that's spam, no. For one thing "Does your browser correctly display flash on all sites? Well, come try this one, it doesn't work!" isn't very good advertizing :)
good then that i didnt flag it :p
@terdon since when do spammers make sense though? :p
lol, I can't even complete a speedtest with 5 bars of 2G
CDMA definitely wins for 2G speed
at least it's .1Mb instead of .05
14:18
apparently steam sales today?
seems so
14:40
Hello guys.
I am using a VPS on Amazon WS. To access ftp I need to use the ubuntu user. I was wondering if it was possible to create another ftp user which would have access to the /var/www/html folder only
Can I have some help here?

@edwinksl: Thanks for your notification. You can remove your comment now.
nice, done

@Fabby hi
where is fabby
anyone here?
@Zacharee1 Are you aware what will happen next?
what?
that timeline and you said something
It has become a dust storm here
life is on stake
do you know where is fabby? means when he could be available for a chat?
no one ever knows
@Serg hi
16:38
hullo
found interesting looking router
and 3 bucks only
also found a book "Inside Unix", comes with floppy disk that has all the scripts in the book
@Serg WRT-54G?
why does everyone have those
@Rinzwind I'm on the case, but I regret that nobody is going to like the answer.
16:53
@Zacharee1 GS actually but yeah. I wasn't aware everyone has them. I'm smoking in the car actually. I decided not to take it. Sigh. I wanna yet i don't wanna spend money
@Rinzwind Answered.
@Serg same thing
I'm so indecisive
@Serg I have one of those with dd-wrt firmware and it's solid and reliable. Of course, it only does 802.11B and G and its ethernet is only 10/100, but it always works without drama.
