O-o
does he provide reasons?
if your downvoting, your doing it wrong!
if your upvoting, yes you are doing it correctly
lol @Edity guess we better get rid of that useless downvote button...
wonder why the silly devs put that in there to confuse us all
12:33
i don't think i can be IRL friends with peter mortensen
Let's think of a good Opposite Day prank.
@Edity he would totally downvote you for that.

Q: Ubuntu 16.04 TLS Can Not Connect To Windows 7 Or XP Shares, But Windows 7 And XP PCs Can Connect To Ubuntu Share

Richard HuelbigInstalled Ubuntu 16.04 TLS on my laptop. Have Windows 7 Professional PC and several Windows XP PCs. Never had an issue accessing any Windows share on any Windows PC from any other Windows PC. Using basic network--workgroup, no domain, no Active Directory. I installed SAMBA on Ubuntu and created...

@terdon yes. it's an old song, like from 1950s , but it's considered a Halloween classic

@Serg haha I'm get my own then, coffee gives me the shakes, although I like it
By the way, it's Monday again. And i have exam. So , prepare thyself for le serg-rant

Help!

I think I messed up http://askubuntu.com/questions/832576/how-to-get-rid-of-the-title-bar by trying to edit it. Can someone please fix it?

Thanks!
:) yes correct, I'm in London. The nearest city to my home town has an amazing tea shop. I drink herbal tea all day long, and maybe a little green tea (matcha latte!!), and when I am home with my mummy, I drink one tiny cup of fresh coffee with loads of almond milk because she doesn't like to drink it by herself
@Zanna, Thanks!
@DKBose any time :D
god i hate Mondays
and exams
and Mondays with exams
Somebody please hire me to write Python all day, so i don't have to deal with homework and exams no more
13:56
I would if I could...
@Serg I'd be happy to as long as you don't require remuneration.
@edwinksl Gonegonegone
@terdon define remuneration ? also op said : top of the window has this long title because of the title of the webpage. I think it's clear they don't care about meta characters but about length of the title
14:01
@Serg Remuneration: salary, you know, being paid for stuff.
And yeah, dunno, I guess I thought that was nonsensical: "The title of the page I'm looking at is long, please fix". Of course it's long, that's the title!
What's the point of fixing that?
having pretty colors in title instead of lengthy text ?
also, i do need money, at least enough to pay for going to China
Can't help you there then, sorry. :P
well, at least spread the word out that there is desperate Ukrainian trying to get foot in the door by writing ton of Unity indicators

@ParanoidPanda Hi ! :) Well, there is no official tox repo at all ... both are hosted on 3rd party repos : qtox on opensuse and utox on debian ... I checked utox - the latest available version is still in alpha stage, so I think qtox is way more stable and has more features though ! But I still have not decided whether to drop tox at all ...

Q: Is this not an incomplete answer? (low quality review)

luchonacho I would expect it to also mention how to check folder permissions and, if required, to modify them. Perhaps I should not have recommended deletion, but modify it or add a comment. Yet, the system tells me I should have selected "Looks good", when in my view it does not. In any case, regardles...

@Rinzwind insider preview only
@GeoMint sure but I was hoping it would die after 1 Ubuntu release :-P
14:58
@Rinzwind who cares ??? :D :D :D
@cl-netbox me! all q's related to that are valid on AU :P
they hurt my eyes and make me go ballistic :=D
@Rinzwind oh yes ... sorry - forgot about this aspect ! :)
windows 10 sucks though :P i am planning to format my desktop and go for ArchLinux
@Rinzwind suggestion : whenever you see the word "Microsoft" or "Windows", simply ignore it and move on to another post or something else ... :)

@GeoMint You are right - I agree : I dropped Windows completely for about two years now ! :)
@GeoMint nice :)

Q: Systemd Synergy Unit File

Ironchunki have a problem with systemd in generally and Unit files. I am using Ubuntu 16.04 Gnome Edition and i want to start up the application "synergy" after i logged in. After my research, i've learned that user unit files are stored in ~/.config/systemd/user/. I have created an ~/.config/systemd...

is there any scripting questions ? if I'm going to stay up, it better be for something fun
@cl-netbox @GeoMint I got the answer :) People in that IRC are really friendly : #xmonad @ chat.freenode.org . waiting for one of them to write the answer :D
16:44
@GeoMint That's what LaTeX is for!
You can make pretty PDF documents of syntax-highlighted source-code:

A: Text editor for printing C++ code

terdonWell, if you want to go the extra mile, do it in LaTeX and provide a professional level PDF file. You haven't mentioned your distribution so I'll give instructions for Debian based systems. The same basic idea can be done on any Linux though. Install a LaTeX system and necessary packages sudo...

@Serg not scripting, but easy for you to answer :p askubuntu.com/questions/832568/…
Sounds like the OP's teacher is a geek, so they should appreciate a LaTeX approach!
@terdon yeah latex is definitely the way to go here
17:02
@terdon you know sooo much!
17:15
good afternoon
@IanC good afternoon to you :)
how are you doing @SeverusTux?
I am doing good :) thanks. About to have dinner :P . wbu ?
good, trying to make good use of my "day off" and studying a bit haha
17:43
Hello. I have a quick question. I've tried to switch to console mode (ctrl+alt+F1) but got just black screen with no text. After switching back to graphical a lot of programs display letters in strange way: i.imgur.com/xj1q6zM.png Rebooting will probably fix it but I'm running ddrescue so I don't want to do this. Opening new terminal doesn't help. (Ubuntu 16.04 LTS)
Is it possible to fix it without reboot?
bye all :)
see you later @SeverusTux
Bye @SeverusTux :)
the black screen seems similar to my issue, I think it has something to do with the resolution set in the virtual terminal @PiotrKowalski
I didn't solve the issue yet, but this link has an answer askubuntu.com/questions/162535/…
you would have to edit the GRUB config file I think
user136984
17:49
@cl-netbox No, I mean the official Tox one, not uTox or qTox one. This one: https://pkg.tox.chat/
about getting the graphical back to normal, I don't know how to do it without at least restarting lightdm, which would kill your ddrescue
There's no spots in the quiet room
there's not enough places to sleep on this campus
@IanC thanks, I'll do it later. Right now gedit looks just like terminal on that screen. :/
awful
@terdon That is the best answer :D
17:51
@IanC I tried restarting Unity (just Alt+F2 and typing unity) but it didn't help. Firefox and Chromium got closed. Other programs not.
@PiotrKowalski no problem! I wish I knew some way to fix graphics issues on lightdm without restarting it, sometimes changing user causes some of those bugs and I have to close everything and restart the service
maybe restarting compiz could work?
@IanC like in here?
I think so, I saw an answer suggesting that compiz was restarted here
I never did it though
No luck. :/ I guess I'll wait untill ddrescue finishes and just reboot.
At least webbrowsers render fonts right. :)
I'm not sure why lightdm is so sensitive when it comes to fonts rendering
in my computer simply changing users a few times could trigger those bugs in the fonts
18:01
@IanC I can open files to read in web browser. Is there any way to copy output from console? ddrescue edits those lines all the time so it unselects...
Ctrl+shift+C copies text from terminal
or you could right-click and choose copy, if you don't want to risk typing Ctrl+C :p
@IanC I know, but I can't select it. ddrescue changes 3 lines and automatically deselects...
it's because ddrescue is clearing and writing everytime, to keep the output in a single place instead of logging everything in the screen
I'm not how to copy it, maybe being quick or pausing the process?
I'm not sure if pausing ddrescue is a good idea though
you would need the PID of ddrescue, then kill -STOP <pid> -> Copy the terminal output (hoping you didn't pause it exactly when it cleared it) -> kill -CONT <pid>
Ugh, can't catch it on screenshot, but when I select text in one line and don't jump to another, the text in selection displays just right.
it sounds really sketchy though, specially since ddrescue is using the disk, so I'm not sure if it's ok to pause it
but considering kill is just sending a signal to ddrescue, it probably does whatever it has left to do before actually pausing it, might be safe
18:10
When I try to select multiple lines (drag down instead of right) rest of the line displays wrong but everything I select on right in next line displays right...
ddrescue is not using disk Ubuntu is on.
I guess it's because the selected text is rendered with a different font
But new terminal still displays glitched font...
I guess I'll just wait.
could you just click on edit->select all when you need to read the output until it's over?
I don't know where is "select all". ;D Glitched in context menu too.
it's one of those days when i have the time, but have no energy
18:30
@Zanna heh got approved by OP
Nice :)
We are both 2 points closer to 2k hahaha
