Flip a coin and third vote? Aw ... my heart ... </3
first come first serve :P
In other news, Linux 3.3-rc2 has been released.
i'm not up-to-date - precise won't come with 3.3, right?
I guess not.
jrg
jrg
precise will ship with 3.2
22:05
\o/
ok... can you guys tell me what you think of this script - here is the source
jrg
jrg
Not bad.
anything you can see to improve it?
other than having to instantiate the object every time.. which isn't bad.. it's actually the preferred way to do it.. but i'm lazy and I don't mind tacking to the Window object :P
I like my version most.
2
:D
xubuntu-desktop is so invasive :-( plymouth changed, notifications under unity changed, a lot of stuff was added to the ubuntu autostart - no good!
jrg
jrg
22:18
yeah its not so "lightweight".
but it saves battery power. :P
and it allows me to run valgrind on indicators without pain.
@rlemon Seriously, it is awesome!
jrg
jrg
ok, that didn't work...
what the heck. jsfiddle gave me the wrong link. :(
22:25
Anybody up for a bounty on my question: askubuntu.com/questions/99111/… ?
jrg
jrg
YAY. Matrix is over. Good film.
Took me just under a year to watch The Matrix. true story
Like, for real?
jrg
jrg
yeah
So you didn't watch the other parts either?
jrg
jrg
back in like, june of 2011, dad gave me the DVDs and told me to watch it
and today, i finally finished it.
22:31
lol, epic fail typo.
jrg
jrg
What do you mean by that comment?
I was referring to my question to you. Made a stupid typo. :)
jrg
jrg
ah.
@BrunoPereira thanks for the bounty
@bioShark np, normally I kinda know my way around ATI drivers but your case was just too much for me :(
22:34
ati on linux - a never-ending story of issues?
shudders
I don't even want to remember.
jrg
jrg
Somehow, somewhere, while I was trying to install something, collapsing windows got set to the default in my compiz config.
My problems were back in the ATI 9800 time though. :P
@htorque naaa, the issue can also be something else. I could not find any bug reports about it
jrg
jrg
how the heck do i reset compiz? (unity --reset did NOT work)
22:37
ATI drivers are very very good at the moment
jrg
jrg
Do I just nuke all .compiz-1 dirs?
lol . ATI issue Pandora box opened :)
nuking ~/.compiz-1 is fine
jrg
jrg
nuked.
but i'd check if you are using the unity profile in ccsm
22:37
definitely going for a Nvidia next time arround
ccsm → preferences button on the left
profile should say 'unity'
i once had this set to 'Default' and wondered why the compiz changes didn't do anything. :D
jrg
jrg
Yeah i'm using the unity profile
Oh my god ... my ATI driver problems were almost nine years ago.
Just realized what that means.
@bioShark
@BrunoPereira cool
@BrunoPereira As I am stating in the question, it's not a show stopper, because I don't require constant log-out/log-in, but the simple fact that I know the problem is there, it gives me the feeling of unstable system :)
22:41
haha, when i read "challenge accepted" i have a different picture in mind :D
@htorque wuut?
jrg
jrg
Compiz has now wasted three hours of my life.
way to go.
@BrunoPereira ah, just forget it. :D
@jrg but you have learned a lot of useless stuff!
jrg
jrg
@htorque Key word there - useless.
there's no compiz in unity-2d. just sayin'... ;D
22:44
by the way, what do you guys think about ccsm possibly being sacked from the default repo?
jrg
jrg
@bioShark I LOVE THE IDEA
@htorque yeah, but also no window snapping
jrg
jrg
I need my window snapping
and apparently is "lightweight"!
don't see the logic. don't like the idea. :)
@jrg yeah, that's the major downside.
jrg
jrg
22:45
Give me window snapping and I'm a unity 2D user for life.
still a memory hog :-(
what is window snapping?
jrg
jrg
take a window, and then drag it to the side of the screen
that aero-like behavior (compiz grid)
my opinion is that who ever wants to install it, knows it's way around and will quickly find the external PPA to install it. But the average Joe will definitely break his system
22:47
oh god, I am so happy since I only use Windows, takes the problems away!
jrg
jrg
nothing wrong with that
@BrunoPereira imma gonna kill you
if i want an 'average joe'-safe environment i go buy a mac.
or a calculator, i hear those are also safe to use
jrg
jrg
even that isn't uh, shall we say foolproof.
yay. time to purge my system of all the packages i'm not using. I'll... be here for a few hours.
what the heck?!
generated almost 11k rep this month \o/
jrg
jrg
22:57
it wants to remove all sorts of things I need!!
stupid tasksel
@htorque 11K?!
1238 votes (two got deleted grrrr)
produced - not earned :D
jrg
jrg
oh... i was going to say...
i was freaking out there for a minute
:D
haha, i'm not Bruno Pereira or Rinzwind
even @fossfreedom felt from his chair there ;)
@htorque 11k? Challenge accepted!
he'll soon beat oli
5,654 rep this months
jrg
jrg
23:01
I'm going to have to re-install Ubuntu again... trying to recover from tasksel is going to take more time then a re-install.
if only i knew which lib* packages i don't need
the rest is easy.
jrg
jrg
synaptic almost made things easy for me.
yeah it wasn't the most user friendly tool, but it did the job
still use it on a daily base
can't say that about the software center
jrg
jrg
thats true.
yeah, i'll wait for tasksel to finish breaking my system, then i'll re-install.
HAHA.
libreoffice got removed from my system
stupid tasksel
Tonight I will have tacos
23:09
and beer?
tacossoundsogoodrightnow
nah, just tacos
anything interesting in regulators to close?
50 minutes and 22 close votes left
evul stare @htorque
jrg
jrg
23:12
@htorque I'm going to hunt you down since you still have close votes.
50 minutes!
i need like 10 to make them go away :P
jrg
jrg
Make them all be gone.
sure
jrg
jrg
honestly, i'm starting to obsess over "do i have enough close votes?!" :P
I am out too
23:14
I have ∞ votes remaining
jrg
jrg
difference between us - you've been doing this since forever, and i've only started a few weeks ago.
"jorge, no tacos before you've used up all your votes!"
jrg
jrg
good one.
I have to work late tonight, start filling up the regulator room
jrg
jrg
23:15
dinner in a moment, then i'll try and fill it up
we're going after duplicates until the next data dump tells us about ones we might have missed.
/me hits some Dragon Age in the meantime
time to sleep, I'll pick the "leftovers" tomorrow. gn
askubuntu.com/tools?tab=close&daterange=today → that shows only how many close votes a question got today, not "active today, total votes" as i thought d'oh
@BrunoPereira good night
@JorgeCastro hope you play DA1, not 2
DA2 in IMHO was a fail compared to the feel of the first one
I didn't even bother with the 2nd one
23:23
out of votes /o\
anyone using duckduckgo over https? is it only slow for me?
@JorgeCastro my wife make level design for DA1. Well community, not actual job at Bioware
@JorgeCastro DA was crazy fun.
thats intense bioShark. Makes me sorry i have the xbox version
I'd like to see the CC for it
:)
well I never liked the idea of a console. Nothing compares to the good old mouse in games
I will agree with you to an extent. You dont get the same kind of vegetative enjoyment from intense mousing. Theres quite a bit to be said for vegging out on the couch with a controller in hand mindlessly bashing zombies or w/e
Can you answer this? How do I force applications to open on the correct monitor? http://askubuntu.com/questions/83277/how-do-i-force-applications-to-open-on-the-correct-monitor #gnome3
