we'll close it as a went-away problem after some time askubuntu.com/q/810379/61218
Morning all!
Evening :)
Noon here :)
morning :=)
Mornoonvening!

@Zanna nuke the mint if possible otherwise VTC
gotcha, omniscient one
@Arronical is that Dutch or doubledutch?
morning || afternoon || evening
The latter, at best.
2 AM here, depending on your thinking it's either very early morning , or very late evening/night
I'm all sorts of sleepy and its 9am here, if I stay up until 2 I think my head will implode!
well we can't say goodnight, as that implies goodbye
08:09
i'm a chronic night owl. Actually i shouldn't be here. My wake up pattern is breaking, and i should be in bed
but i was watching jacksepticeye, and then thought up of a solution to one of the questions, so had to post
oh yeah? share?
lol well I've got the fanatic badge
@Zanna here it is askubuntu.com/a/809103/295286 Basically , OP wants to kill previous instance of the script and run new one each time. It gets a little dirty if one tries to do it from within script itself due to subshells , but wrapper script allows killing main script by name and then launch new instance of main script
Should I use NAA Flag after recommending Delete as NAA in review? What do you do?
08:21
awesome @Serg
I always flag
never hurts ^_^
If there's option to delete on the answer ( it doesn't always appear for me ) , i use that. Otherwise - flag
hmm. it seems I should start flagging too!
I haven't got the Marshal badge yet!
@Arronical thank you for the edit
(For obvious reasons)
08:25
is that spam?
yes, very blunt spam
No worries @Serg, I like the answer, I had to do something like this a while back, but was a bit less elegant in my solution!
I accidentially clicked the link
Am I at risk now?
@grooveplex maybe, maybe not. If it's just spam, probably there's no malware. If there is, you're safe from windows malware . . . unless they also use javascript malware
you can check the link at virustotal.com
08:28
yeah, i had to do something of the sorts,too, way back when, but because i wanted to make the script a complete app , i had to do everything via same file. That was complicated though. I should have used wrapper like in this answer . Eh, live and learn
bbl too, gotta go to work... I wanna ask a question but no time to write it :(
use speech to text
lol it doesn't understand my accent
xD
08:31
if ah mun dai ah mun dai
Is that some Midlands twang there?
are you from Scotland
@Serg seems like wrappers are almost always the cleanest solution.
Hmmm... wish I could trade successful spam flags for takeaway food.....
Trading reputation for sandwiches would be nice
like, trade 1k for a burger
user136984
09:27
@Serg: Ah, sorry, got the spelling slightly wrong yesterday, appears it's probably actually なっと.
user136984
09:43
@Serg: Actually, maybe not, I'm really confused, I will have to go and check! It appears to be spelt like that, however Anthy can't detect a Kanji for it so I'm not sure any more...
@ParanoidPanda well if i knew Japanese I'd correct your spelling, otherwise i have to trust Google :D
user136984
@Serg: And what does Google say? :D
user136984
@chaskes: Do you have any idea? :)
user136984
I really do love this! :D
user136984
09:49
It's just so strange bug so great! :D
user136984
Anyone good with Java here?
i know kazwolfe uses java a lot
but you are rarely in chat at the same time as him
[ SmokeDetector ] Link at end of body, pattern-matching website in body: UTorrent Pro Cracked Full Version by hdwidweud on askubuntu.com
10:09
@ParanoidPanda Google says, it's 4 am and i should sleep, so bye for now
as for java . . . . maybe one day I'll be good at it, but it's not this day
user136984
@Serg: Ok, goodnight! ;D
user136984
If anyone can help, I want to make my JTable not editable, and I have found this:
user136984

A: How to make whole JTable uneditable

JB Nizetpublic boolean isCellEditable(int row, int column) { return false; } Above code seems that specific row and column is non editable but how can I make the complete table non editable. The method returns false, whatever the value of row and column is. So, for all rows and all columns, th...

user136984
10:13
But... I'm not sure where to put it. I've tried extending the JTable but that seems to remove the whole lot and make me redo everything which is something I rather avoid. I've tried placing it in various places, but nothing seems to be working. So where do I put it?
Now this ai.stackexchange.com is a great idea.
user136984
10:40
VTC this EOL question.
user136984
11:32
I really am eating such lovely Japanese green tea sweets right now! :D
user136984
They are like green tea caramels.
user136984
Yum! :D
user136984
How come it's so quiet in here at the moment?
user136984
@HenryWHHackv2.0: What was that?
@ParanoidPanda repost: I'm still here and I will always be here! :)
11:44
Out site gains lots of dups lately I guess. See this google result
oh boy
i was about to ping you. :(
I don't know what to reply askubuntu.com/questions/810050/…
ah
no idea myself
12:03
Should this gandalf question be closed too as a duplicate of askubuntu.com/questions/100051/…
Oli

12:15
@AnwarShah Something has to be pretty outrageous to get me to taking action on two >4yo questions.
And The answers on askubuntu.com/questions/504652/… are a better candidate for modern installations.
12:59
@AnwarShah done
I'm currently developing a application and I was wondering if I decide to use a custom user agent, do I need to register it somewhere?
Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MyApplication/0.1.0; +http://example.com/myapp)
user136984
Just closed a question and kicked it out of the hot SE network posts list! >:D
user136984
Why do questions which need to be closed so often become 'hot' questions?
user136984
And then we come along with a big bucket of water and put out all the fun the newer users are having! >:P
user136984
5 normal sized buckets of water to put out a question on fire! 1 big mod one to put it out instantly! :P
user136984
13:08
And lots of flags with buckets of water painted on them for those who don't have enough rep yet for buckets! ;P
user136984
Boy am I getting weird! :D
user136984
It might be because I spent a lot of this morning listening to the Selling England by the Pound Genesis album (which is still going round in my head) which is rather strange... :D
user136984
Oh dear... Dare I wade into this? :D
user136984
I also hadn't heard of that SE site before, it looks interesting.
13:39
That Skeptics question is definitely a bit of a minefield. It's an interesting SE with a lot of emotive questions.
Is this not a very strange dup vote? askubuntu.com/questions/810538/…
Oh, actually I didn't read the whole of the question.
do we need a tag for bash for Windows? Is it even ontopic?
user136984
@Serg: Seems I was slightly wrong! The correct spelling is: なっとう or 納豆! :)
user136984
@Arronical: Exactly what I was thinking... I don't think I'll wade in! :D
user136984
Though everybody there seems to be quite calm and distanced from the subject.
13:53
i recall recently seeing questions about WSL having close votes for being off-topic
@Rinzwind thanks :)

Q: Persistent Package Error -->E: The package jre1.8.0-91 needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it

tkleinI tried installing JRE a while back, but something went wrong with the package decompression and failed the instalation. Now I can't install anything else. I keep getting the same error shown bellow. I tried autoremove, purge, update and reinstalling the package manually. No success whatsoever. ...

@jokerdino should be off-topic IMHO

A: Can Ubuntu Touch be installed on 64GB memory version of Meizu Pro 5?

TigerYes, I also did it, Meizu Pro 5, 4 / 64Gb. Works well.

Why is that not an answer?
@AnwarShah don't know. Gonna let people decide on that.
arggh! definitely wrong vote
did I flag that answer?
13:59
No, you delete voted.
Idk how that happened!
old question, problem went away askubuntu.com/questions/407030/…
@AnwarShah you are cleaning up today :D
sure it went away on its own? There seems an answer left in a comment.
@jokerdino aargh, marking that VLQ flag as helpful downvoted that post. Boo
@Zanna yeah. only 8 close votes left
@jokerdino LQ at least (compared to the other one)
14:06
I've never run out of close votes yet
@Zanna try harder >:-)
@Rinzwind that I agree
I once had 70 spam flags left _O-
But is not VLQ.
I don't know whether I use that much CV until today
14:07
@Rinzwind I'm doing pretty well today thanks to @AnwarShah !
:) don't like the Q either though
It's hardware :P
@AnwarShah it did not go away. Might need a CW answer.
hold on
@Zanna try your best to say no to others and you will find all sorts of issue with their requests.
@jokerdino famous mod sentences #1
quick, retract them CVotes.

Q: How to change directories in Windows 10 Ubuntu Bash?

RAHUL MAHESHWARIHow to change directories easily in Windows 10 Ubuntu Bash and where to place libgraph folder for using graphics? I can't find that hidden folder suggested in some articles from different websites(lxss folder)

has a NAU close vote
is that correct or do we accept bash on windows on AU?
that vote was from me.
I don't know.
me neither
14:12
@Rinzwind i am not sure if there is a solid consensus yet
I'd LOVE to NAU though
me too!
that canonical is the instagator does not make it on topic I'd say :P
but they pay us... oh wait.
I am with you ^_^
14:13
should I meta it? @jokerdino :D
@Rinzwind think it's already on meta but go for round 2
oh
I'll have a look then 1st

Q: Do we consider "Ubuntu on Windows 10" the same as an official Ubuntu flavour? Do we support it? To what extent?

kosAs many will have heard of, Microsoft will distribute a stock Ubuntu installation to be run on Windows 10. Source. Someone has made the point that being this the result of a partnership with Canonical, questions about it should be supported. Per the Help Center: Questions that you may ask: ...

I think we duped round #2 on meta already but go for round #3
WSL is out in the wild now, so we should decide soon
14:15
remind me what is WSL again
windows subsystem for linux
yeah, don't like the name.
still beats "bash on windows"
WSL is an old name. I remember seeing that component in Win7
MS already does enough bashing. Why add more?
4
14:17
no official stance anywhere :P
and the 1st round was before release :p
Fine, we will come up with our opinion come this Saturday.
I demand a "go back to windows" close vote
Along with VLQ issue.
saturday? what happens then?
I'll happily bash windows but I'm not answering any question about it
14:19
me neither
@Rinzwind we mods do a group huddle
To me "bash on windows" requires knowledge about Windows we are not suppose to have :P
@jokerdino you gonna hug Oli? :X
xoxox
I keep writing long comments on bad posts in review and it turns out to be an audit
are you failing it?
14:23

Q: What happens when I vote to delete an answer?

Pilot6Does it go to the Low Quality review or not? This is related to flagging questions. For high rep user maybe VTD is a better option.

@jokerdino nope I'm winning on review audits :)
but my long comments are wasted haha
you can check up on me though right?
I don't see any audits on you today o.O
ah wait. Different queue.
@Serg you there ?
finally figured out why the RAM chips were not working
I installed i2c-tools
and got the RAM speeds !

Q: Mixed RAM apparently leads to garbled output on a Dell Vostro 3800 running Ubuntu 14.04

gansubI have a Dell Vostro 3800 running Ubuntu 14.04. It’s memory capacity is 16GB. Recently it was running with two 4GB RAM sticks and working fine. When I added an 8GB RAM stick by removing one of the two 4GB RAM sticks and then restarted it would sometimes gives me garbled output and then shutdown w...

how are you on declining flags today @jokerdino :D
too little flags in the queue so going easy.
14:26
@gansub he isnt here yet. he's probably sleeping
@Rinzwind - ok thanks. I got a memory card with 1800 Mhz and another one with 1600 Mhz. those wont work right ?
5 (delete) votes are needed for an answer to get deleted right?
ehm. ehm. it can work @gansub but I'd assume they'd go 1600 -all-
thanks
@Rinzwind - Ubuntu freezes if they are separate
hmmm
@gansub that warrants bug report ;-)
@Rinzwind - but how will the latency work ?
one is CAS 3 and the other is CAS 4
then ?
but on OS should still not crash :+)
@Rinzwind - what it should do when the latencies are different?
14:31
@gansub the BIOS should give a big fat warning when booting :P
ok BBL. Need to pick up a copy of No Mans Sky. Have had it on pre-order for 2 freaking years and now I want it 1st day it got released >:-D
@Rinzwind the BIOS ?
no warning given here
so Ubuntu bug ! YAY !!!!
14:47
@ParanoidPanda I couldn't see the whole context. What's the meaning of the word in question?
@NathanOsman I might be able to fix my phone after all
15:06
ah! it seems I can get badges for CW answer
Community Wiki
ah
I would say you can
since it isn't rep
i've got one
user136984
@chaskes: Natto fermented soybeans, but it's fine! I found the answer! It's either: なっとう or 納豆.
user136984
15:13
Have you tried them? I really like them! :)
user136984
I tried them for the first time yesterday.
oooh I love natto!
user136984
Really? :D
yeah I pretty much love anything fermented... sauerkraut, kim chi, natto, nooch, tamari...
@Zanna beer, wine, vinegar :p
why do we make things go bad to preserve them?
15:19
they're not going bad, they are being transformed by magical microorganisms ^_^
it's basically rotten food
just rotten in a way that tastes good :p
I can live with that
This is a dupe of that no Unity question askubuntu.com/questions/810576/…
I closed as EOL before I realized
got it
danke
15:24
gah I don't even know 'you're welcome' in Deutsch
brb
bitte
but that's according to my terrible German teacher
he said it means both please and you're welcome
@ParanoidPanda Right, it's a long vowel on the end, so I wasn't sure if that's what you meant. I've never had them, but I'm with @zanna , I'm a big kim chee and pickles guy
oh right! I knew it was please
@ParanoidPanda It seems as if the qtox maintaining is concentrated in one place now -> software.opensuse.org/… ... I grabbed the .deb file and installed it manually with gdebi ... alternatively you can add the opensuse repo to your software sources ... the latest stable version is of August, 5th ! :)
I guess you could be literal and make no sense and say du bist wilkommen :p
15:25
@Zacharee1 aren't you all about gracias and jajaja
@chaskes :) kim chi is apparently good for you as well as being so yummy
@edwinksl I'm learning Spanish now, but I did take German
not a good teacher though
He thought he knew everything, and he did, just incorrectly
yeah, all the fermented things are really good for you. I try to eat kim chee every day
Hello everybody ! :)
hello ^_^
15:27
@Zanna Hi ! :)
@chaskes isn't it one word?
@Zacharee1 both holds imo
@AnwarShah yeah, but a dupe marker is more helpful if it's going to be closed either way.

Q: Error initializing NSS google chrome ubuntu

BobI am trying to launch google chrome from ubuntu terminal using google-chrome. However i am getting the following error. [25315:25349:0810/015645:ERROR:nss_util.cc(744)] Error initializing NSS with a persistent database (sql:/home/skr12ms039/.pki/nssdb): libsoftokn3.so: cannot open shared object ...

wait
what happens if there are two bobs?
do they both get the ping?
15:29
@ParanoidPanda Correction : the latest qtox version 1.5 arrived just right now ... it is from today ! :)
@Zacharee1 I see it both ways (including on the jar I buy) but, yeah, it's probably best as kimchi or kimchee
weird
@cl-netbox I thought we were avoiding qtox
I didn't mention qtox
@Zacharee1 y u ping wrong person
whoops
stupid same first letters and tab complete
15:31
well there are two "za"s currently
user136984
@cl-netbox: Well, I'm going to be installing Arch at the weekend so we will see what is available in their repositories...
user136984
:)
@Zacharee1 why ?
i have to type 3 letters to ping @Zacharee1
@cl-netbox because their team went crazy right?
@edwinksl well that's not my problem
56 to goo
Can Android N come sooner?
15:34
@Zacharee1 I don't know ... that are just opinions ... the maintainer antonbatenev seems to be quite reliable for some time now ... :)
@ParanoidPanda The arch files are located in the same place ... :)
@AnwarShah this I am not sure.
@Zanna @Zanna what did this mean? I was wondering if it was Midlandsness.
Oh dear, not sure I did that properly? It was meant to mention a comment.
?
Your message was a reply to a Zanna's message which is absolutely a terrible thing to say in my language.
15:40
@jokerdino what
@jokerdino Aha! I thought it was something to be read phonetically, and was confused.
Now I'm spreading the confusion.
<- realized it's him, who is the ultimate n0obular noob!
after gaining some Meta knowledge
I think if you VTD a post, it goes to the tools page I linked you earlier @AnwarShah.
@AnwarShah what else is new?
YESH
back to full TMO EDGE
@jokerdino yeah. I am thinking same now. unless it is also determined as LQ by the system
@Zacharee1 rather ask, what are old? :)
15:44
:p
Heya @jokerdino ! :) Back from sleep or on the way to bed ? :D
@cl-netbox on the way to bed in a couple hours.
@jokerdino same here ... in about 6 hours ... :)
sleep is for the weak.
we are weak
15:50
@jokerdino hahaha ... :D
sleep is for the dead :P
4
well if you don't sleep, you'll become one
if you die while attempting to never sleep you got the most out of your life in the shortest possible time :P
try it
Even if you don't sleep, you will eventually fall asleep. Sometimes even permanently.
15:55
@AnwarShah 64 hours has been my max.
i haven't tried my max
not really interested in knowing mine
have records of around 48 hours
@Arronical yes it's from a dialect poem by Tennyson (who was from Lincolnshire like me)
This is an interesting book which taught me something valuable.
I too was trying to hack sleep like the author
15:59
I really love sleeping and staying awake is not a sport I care to try
