Q: What happened to flag weight

binWJust now I observed that my profile is no longer showing "flag weight" instead it is showing "helpful flags". Where did flag weight go? Is it being replaced with helpful flags count?

:)

if we were to bounty each of our 8,676 unanswered questions would mean 433,800 (and thats only at 50 rep/bounty, we could have ones worth more!) rep spent on bounties - THAT is more then Jon Skeet has.

Q: Project Ideas for newbies.

hd_pulseI am a college student who is taking a sort of introductory class to Unix, Linux ( and to be honest i have been accustomed to it and like it better than widows now) and we have just covered the commands on Unix. We are now getting into shell script and we are required to write a script for a proj...

@jrg @MarcoCeppi After an update today, my unity has fell back to 2d - is there anything that can cause this?
jrg
jrg
@MarcoCeppi hey, i'm willing to help a student
19:18
hello folks!

HI @htorque

I'm leaving unity for good since it's annoyed me one too many times
but the question is ... where do I go?
Arch, duh.
@MarcoCeppi I'd like to stick with something Debian based
19:39
That should be Debian then - The Mother.
Why not Kubuntu?
best distribution besides ubuntu 11.10? ubuntu 11.04 (:
2
@Takkat @MarcoCeppi I don't know why not?
As long as I'm on Debian, I'm happy - so maybe I should just try Debian itself.
There's a new desktop environment that's just come out a year or two ago
Called "Together" or "Unity", something like that
worth a look

Does anybody know if there is any documentation anywhere on what was changed from pulseaudio 0.9.22 to 1.0.x?
It still looks the same but it behaves differently.
xubuntu is nice, if you prefer a plain two panel setup. it also uses almost 2 watts less than unity on my thinkpad. ;-)

@MarcoCeppi oh my. a GIF.
there's nothing better than an animated gif in a chat. :D

it go away
@Takkat if 0.9.22 was the release before 1.0, this should be it: freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Notes/1.0

(<3 pulseaudio)
19:50
(killall pulseaudio)
<- me likes it too when it works - but it doesn't atm
nah, it's okay. as long as it works.
hehe
wow, they literally just dumped all the commit messages for release notes

pinstriped unity greeter :D
(xorg bug, i hope :D)
That's for gentlemen only?
by the way, does this Xorg bug work for anyone? Lock the screen, hit Ctrl+Alt+KP_MULTIPLY to unlock it without a password
it seems fixed in 11.10, as far as I can tell
:-o
it's there in 12.04 w/ xorg-edgers ppa
they say it affects the current xorg release (which is like half a year old?)
holy sh*t...
19:54
nice :D
omg the pulseaudio changelog's most used word is Fix - they might have made it better then.

I can't get the Ctrl+Alt+KP_MULTIPLY in 11.10
@jrg ah, I was wrong about the version. this bug is in X 1.11, and Ubuntu 11.10 ships X 1.10.
jrg
jrg
Ah I see
interesting. I have a linkedin bot looking at my ec2 instance.
"LinkedInBot/1.0 (compatible; Mozilla/5.0; Jakarta Commons-HttpClient/3.1 +http://www.linkedin.com)"
20:12
@StefanoPalazzo I heard about it a few days ago, I think the latest updates fixed it
Doesn't matter, you can just jump between virtual terminals to escape the password, unless they fixed that too
oh, you can!
well it's no use if you don't have the password to log in afterwards :)
20:28
argh!
linux explodified!
</rage>

@htorque pinstripes are from unity TV interface
PHP compiler/interpreter http://askubuntu.com/questions/97407/php-compiler-interpreter #php
@Greg nope, that's a bug.

1 hour later…

Anyone have experience playing with recordmydesktop CLI flags?
(i will ask a question, was just curious to see if someone here has experience)
what's the question?
jrg
jrg
I have dual monitors
good start...
(:
jrg
jrg
22:26
and I'd like to record one of them. The hard part is, its the one on the right, meaning its not the "primary" monitor.
did you try setting -x, -y, --width, and --height?
booting notebook
attaching dp cable
jrg
jrg
so normally when I want to do the left one, I do something like this: recordmydesktop --width 1440 --height 900 --full-shots --fps 15 --delay 10
oh wait.
starting gtk-recordmydesktop
:P
jrg
jrg
i didn't know about -x and -y
@htorque gtkrecordmydesktop doesn't like me, it crashes too much. :(
ok, thanks stefano. i'll go look at -x and -y
22:28
right, you could just set -x 1280 -y 0 --width=1440 --height=900 or something
oh wait, recordmydesktop is the cli version of gtk-...?
jrg
jrg
yeah
damn, why do i learn about this now after tons of crashes and angry minutes with gtk-...
anyways, thanks for mentioning it!
23:23
softpedia.com/get/Internet/Internet-Applications-Addons/… that is kinda cool.. they must have acquired it from stackapps.com
and I know its nothing new or exciting but i'm super amped to have this back in my video game collection..
Can you answer this? Is there going to be a way to get ubuntu TV on a normal TV? http://askubuntu.com/questions/95743/is-there-going-to-be-a-way-to-get-ubuntu-tv-on-a-normal-tv #ubuntutv
23:58
