"SuperMouse"? :D

@ParanoidPanda fossfreedom.

user136984
Oh dear, I thought you might have meant him... :D

user136984
He's not Super Mouse, he's Danger Mouse! ;D

user136984
Yep, that's him! :D

user136984
10:09 AM
@fossfreedom: No good trying to hide your identity from us any more! ;P

So fossfreedom is dangermouse pretending to be a mod.
Well he is not pretending.

@jokerdino thats senseless, @ParanoidPanda would never read emails from that account because they could contain something harmful xD

Well, it does raise questions about what their primary concerns might be.

user136984
Do you mods get a lot of abuse?

user136984
I just don't want all the people who might end up hating me getting my email...

10:20 AM
It's zero on my count.

Anyone else had their Epic/Legendary progress re-calculated?

@muru that throws some questions

@jokerdino well, it should. Mine hasn't been, but the #days ≥ 200 for me went down.
So I guess until I get four more, the progress won't change.

Mine remains on 4.

@ParanoidPanda I don't think I have seen anybody like that here. Someone that nasty leaves their mark here.

10:24 AM
@ParanoidPanda never hid the fact that I have super powers ;)

user136984
@muru: Ok, well then I think that today I will sort out my LP account and then start writing my speech, even if I don't get in, it will be a good experience I think and make me more prepared for the next election whenever that may be. :)

user136984
@fossfreedom: :D

user136984
Didn't you say at some point that they are showing Danger Mouse again?

user136984
Or making some new ones or something?

yep - have been showing the new series in the UK. Excellent as always!

user136984
10:27 AM
What channel is it on?

Hello :)

digital channel called CBBC

Hi @fossfreedom ! :) How is the general feedback on Budgie ?

user136984
@fossfreedom: CBBC? You mean that bottom-obsessed kids channel that scared me away when they moved to that focus years ago (very many years ago)?

Hello @ParanoidPanda - nice to see you ! :)

user136984
10:38 AM
Well, the BBC have an iPlayer so maybe it will be on there and I won't have to see anything else in order find it...

@ParanoidPanda @Serg is back. :)

user136984
@cl-netbox: You too! :)

user136984
@HenryWHHack: Is he?

user136984
He doesn't know about the voting thing does he? I think he was affected too... He lost 9k...

user136984
10:40 AM
@ByteCommander: And you're away somewhere aren't you?

7 hours ago, by Serg
I have my own drama here, i lost 10k rep

Anybody want to say something? askubuntu.com/questions/608480/…

@muru I said something ;)

nope

user136984
@HenryWHHack: Ah...

10:51 AM
@Videonauth Aw. :( I was hoping for a literal "something"

user136984
Strange, I thought it said 9k... But I think it was almost 10k...

well i thought about doing that, but well it oesnt sound professional does it?

I remember this time when a user who didn't care about being off-topic went on this long comment thread with me, debating something very off-topic.

I was just waiting around for the thing to get closed, and OP decided to troll me. Ah, those were the glorious days. :P

10:55 AM
@ParanoidPanda yes - that one ... kids only!
@cl-netbox very positive thanks. Lots of youtube videos - quite good press. Growing community.

anybody knows how i can set up a second default key for gpg ?
or better to say how to get enigmail to recognize a second key in my DB

@fossfreedom Though I don't use budgie, I tested it in solus and I kinda liked it ... so I wish you to have great success with what you do there ! :)

11:22 AM
@HenryWHHack.. how did you loose 10K rep..

@cl-netbox thanks :)

@fossfreedom You're welcome ! :) I really do mean it - I can imagine how much work it is to integrate a flawlessly working DE into an operating system ! :)

@OluDouglas hendry didn't, serg did
and that's linked in the topmost pinned chat

Ooh.
sorry... my bad

11:53 AM
@OluDouglas Hello :D .
You have not asked any questions , not edited any posts , never raised a flag. On what basis should the voters know your moderation capabilities ?

0
Q: Should single tag edits be approved?

Android DevTitle says it all. I have seen 5+ of these exact edits by the same user, and I'm wondering whether they should be accepted.

@Hizqeel Please stop posting such tiny edits like these: askubuntu.com/review/suggested-edits/576505

@AndroidDev I was just hoping some one could post that on meta :D

@SeverusTux Post the question, or asking the user to stop?

Both ;-P

12:10 PM
@AndroidDev @AndroidDev he wont get yuour message unless he was in chat already short time ago, or youre a moderator which can superping

wow! "super"ping .. I didn't know that

we don't talk about it.

How many more hidden "super" powers do you guys have ? ;-P

I tell and you die.

@jokerdino Could you "superping" him then?

12:14 PM
((0))__((0))

The system will do its job if you do approve good edits and reject bad ones.

Or... as muru mentioned, we waste our precious 20 reviews per day on these edits ?
4
Q: Allow us to filter out tag-only or minimal edits from Suggested Edits review

muruOver the past few months, I have seen on multiple occasions new users policing questions (correcting tags, removing salutations, etc.,) without substantially improving the questions, even when there are glaring problems in them (lack of code formatting, grammar problems, etc.). When I go to the...

@SeverusTux .. truth is I've just never wanted to shoot down someone's question/answer and your right. I've never downvoted an answer. I never really felt the need to till now
Honestly.. I don't know how to do that.. but I will give it my best
perhaps i can consider this a learning point

@jokerdino , with your superpowers, is there any way to change the ping sound of chat room ? It is frighting ;-P ;-)

@Pilot6 backticks are legacy and should be avoided, use "$()" instead

12:25 PM
I don't see him.

@OluDouglas you should do some "home work" before nominating yourself ;-P , But as you said, you can learn things with time.

@SeverusTux I am not sure, but I think @NathanOsman wrote a script to change the ping sound ... :)

@Hizqeel Hey, thanks for your suggested edits. Some of us feel your edits could use some work though. Can you look through the feedback given to your edits and see if you can improve them? You can join us in chat and discuss it with us too.
@SeverusTux yes

Oh... man ... @NathanOsman writes scripts even to make a pizza ;) I love his scripts

@SeverusTux see muru's updated script to do that -- stackapps.com/a/6870

12:29 PM
@jokerdino ah ... it was muru ... sorry for the wrong name @SeverusTux ! :) Hi @jokerdino ! :)

@anonymous2 he is in the election room
or was.
@Videonauth what are we talking about?

I've already started learning @SeverusTux

@jokerdino about a question where we both answered the question ;)

@Videonauth @I always used them. OK.

I know theyre much more convenient as $()

12:35 PM
backticks for codeblocks?

I mix them up still too because I'm used to them on windows

$(test)

backticks are easier to type on german keyboard
for $() i have to get nearly a knot into my fingers

12:56 PM
Puh... started to edit this question .. dropped it after reading two paragraphs , uff... how do thay have such patience to write so much ..

1:10 PM
@jokerdino Hi, Yes I know my suggested edits need some work and I am doing lazy edits alot . I haven't seen my edits feedback for long but i will make sure to improve them

@Hizqeel Thanks and keep your positive contribution coming. See also - meta.askubuntu.com/questions/15546/…

Tim
1:31 PM
@Hizqeel I saw a number of good edits from you. Tag only edits are discouraged, but the other ones I saw I approved.

hello @ByteCommander

Hi @ByteCommander ! :) Hi @Videonauth ! :)

hello @cl-netbox

@Videonauth What about the lawyers - did they give in or do they still want you to pay ?

they gave in pretty easily and quick
just the next day i had a letter from them apologizing

1:45 PM
@Videonauth great ! sometimes things work as they should ... unfortunately not always ! :)

@cl-netbox @Videonauth Hey guys! o/

@Videonauth Really?
Because if you use the code button, it puts backticks in.

Tim
Code button will add backticks if it's a single line of code
It will add 4 spaces if it's multi-line

@Tim I'm aware.

7 notifications O_o

1:55 PM
@cl-netbox What's this about lawyers?

@AndroidDev something privately from @Videonauth ... they wanted him to pay for something which was not correct. :)

just had to resign the ubuntu code of conduct, had to revoke my pgp key

@Videonauth - Gotcha

can someone check if it says signed on my launchpad launchpad.net/~videonauth

@Videonauth It does.

1:59 PM
good

@Tim I will make sure to improve and will not do that mistake again

Tim
@Seth I have two emails on my Launchpad. Can I show one of them?

@Seth What does the smoke detector user do?

@Tim I have no idea, I only have one on my account.

How many of you don't know who already is a mod in this site?

2:01 PM
he tells us when somethings burning, spam for example :)

@jokerdino I find this amusing.

@AndroidDev he runs regexes on every single post that comes through the site to check for spam or abuse.

@jokerdino Not sure I catch your drift.
@Seth - So its a filter?

No, because it doesn't actually do anything but report them.

@Seth Are you going to run for mod again this year?

2:04 PM
@AndroidDev why would he need to?

@AndroidDev you are a moderator until you retire. The election is purely to elect new people :)

@JourneymanGeek - Once a mod always a mod?

@AndroidDev unless you vanish for too long, or you're asked to leave or you resign

@Seth @JourneymanGeek Ahh.

Elections are essentially "We don't have enough mods to handle things we need more mods"

2:10 PM
@JourneymanGeek Well then.

Tim
Except for the first election, then the pro-temp mods can be replaced

Pro Tem Mods need to stand for election again, true
but pro tem's are a special case

HOLY COW!
What the hell happened to my score!!???

@ByteCommander see the starwall - top pinned post.

Can't I be away for just one single week without the whole site going up in flames and chaos? >:-/

2:14 PM
@ByteCommander No?

Grrr...

more seriously though? Read that post.

@ByteCommander - I knew that was coming sooner or later :)

Yes, yes. Okay, but why did that stupid algorithm even UNACCEPT answers!!??

2:18 PM
About the unaccepts.

I'm going through that list in my profile now and reaccepting and reupvoting every post I see! Humph.

Tim
@ByteCommander Seriously, don't do that. The system undid those because it deemed them unacceptable
How much did you loose?

About 6.6k - I'm back to 13.7k now from 20.4k. :-/
And I f***ingly deem it unacceptable to unaccept the answers I accepted!

@Tim I THINK the unaccept was a bug

> The "unaccepts" are an artifact of the system not differentiating between normal votes and "accept" votes.

@ByteCommander In my case even more than 10 answers disappeared completely ! :)

Tim
2:22 PM
@JourneymanGeek Oh okay fair enough then

that said, well, someone clearly was naughty with their voting

Tim
@ByteCommander Still, don't go back and re upvote stuff. There were issues with something which was fixed (with these effects).

Definately don't re-upvote

I'm not too enraged about the reversed upvotes as I knew that quite a few of them were hidden serial votes. It's also not thaaat much (still about 1/3 of my score, but some others were hit harder) - but I really know that I don't accept answers just for the fun of it!

Is that algorithm still in place?

Tim
2:23 PM
Sure it's annoying, but the reason this was undone was the system deems it wrong now.

@BharadwajRaju Yeah?

Tim
And should have done in the past
@BharadwajRaju It has now been integrated into the main system.

@Tim I can't speak for the mods here but typically voting rings arn't the easiest thing to find

Tim
@JourneymanGeek No, I was thinking about a similar issue earlier.

Can I at least investigate who's upvotes on my posts got revoked (at least as summary: 1000 points by x, 500 points by y, ...) and whether votes of myself to others got reversed?

2:25 PM
and obviously, reputation is a very very touchy thing so... you want to be right when its manual

Maybe tell the algorithm to ignore high-quality posts (as is determined by the review queue)?

Tim
Differentiating between people who are acting honestly and dishonestly when it looks the same is a bad thing. In the UK there are people lying on their vote registration forms - they're saying they are eligible to vote. Now differentiating between people who are saying something and are that thing is hard.

Tim
@BharadwajRaju No. If you get 4 people in chat to upvote your post, that boosts it and others will upvote more etc.

@Tim chances are votes like that wouldn't be affected here

2:31 PM
Didn't this question have an answer once?

@Videonauth Why answer a homework question?? askubuntu.com/questions/784475/…

@ByteCommander indeed it had an answer

But I can't even see it as deleted post.
I mean - I still can view deleted answers with 13k, can I?

think so

Yes.
At least they still grant me to do that.

Q: Why is /lib/modules so huge under my gentoo, compared to Ubuntu

Oz123I have a Gentoo installation. For compiling the kernel I used the configuration from Ubuntu 14.04 kernel. I find it hard to understand why the sizes of the modules libraries are so different: In Ubuntu oz123@ubuntu $ du -sh /lib/modules/4.2.0-36-generic/ 202M /lib/modules/4.2.0-36-generic/...

@Videonauth Why answer a homework question? askubuntu.com/questions/784475/…

@AndroidDev Why not answering it ?

@Videonauth Because we're not a homework service.

Okay, I'm going to file a Meta question to find out details about that reversal. Hrmpf!

@AndroidDev Well we are a question and answer site, he asked a question and I answered it, so is that wrong now shall we put all questions down and close them simply as annoying? Is he someone less worthy of an answer ? No I think not

2:42 PM
@Videonauth @muru @Seth @jokerdino Isn't homework off-topic?

no

No
You can downvote them for lack of effort
Or close as unclear if the question isn't specific enough, but homework by itself isn't offtopic

@Videonauth as I already said, some of my answers disappeared completely ...

not nice, it only affected me a little bit. I lost 215 reputation and non of my answers seems missing

So many "Can't' boot Windows 7 after installing Ubuntu" questions I was unable to save a Edit on this new question :P askubuntu.com/review/first-posts/576606

@cl-netbox The questions were deleted.

@Seth ah ... okay ... Hi Seth ! :)

hi

@BharadwajRaju indeed

2:52 PM
wee
free flags?

@BharadwajRaju not that you get my comment wrong :) just want you not to waste your time with such crap :)

3:16 PM
@MadMike I was able to edit it.
@muru @Seth Was my comment deleted here? askubuntu.com/questions/784475/…

@AndroidDev you never commented

@AndroidDev best you ask the dangermouse ;)

@jokerdino Yes, I did.

@AndroidDev you never commented on the answer, but the comment on the question was, yes.

@Seth - Because....

3:21 PM
@Videonauth can you add some explanation to that answer? So they could learn something from your work.
A homework question should ideally be answered with guidelines rather than actual answer. Better not to spoonfeed.

@jokerdino will do in a minute, just eating atm

No problem. You have all day.

Q: Still prompted for password after creating authorization keys

user1551817I have a Macbook pro, and I successfully set up authorization keys so that I didn't have to enter a password each time I log in to a remote machine. Years later I have a new computer that I have put Ubuntu onto. I am now trying to do the same, but I'm having problems. So far I have: run ssh-ke...

@Videonauth I agree. Let's not waste time on obviously bad posts.

3:29 PM
Hi @jokerdino ! :) did I forget to say hello to you this morning ? hmmm ... don't remember ... :)

@cl-netbox hiya
I wasn't around much today

ah ... okay ... :)

For the users of ARC, looks like Albert just added a new theme:

@RPiAwesomeness - As in Android Runtime for Chrome?

Good morning :)
I'm a fairly new Ubuntu LiveUSB user and I wanted to get some thoughts on something. I wondered if anyone is alive or whether it's better to ask a question in the Q&A first?

3:46 PM
you can ask questions here, but it's best just to ask them whether than ask if anyone is here :)

True!
Sorry, was typing and machine froze. On other machine now.
I am running the latest Ubuntu from a LiveUSB on a DELL E7450 /w Dockng Station & 2 monitors connected via DVI.
Firstly, I'm very impressed it works so well out of the box. But I'm seeing a couple of problems. The first is more of an annoyance. As I am working between monitors one will occasionally go temporarily blank for say 2-3 seconds, but it comes back.
Another thing I am seeing is the machine appears to freeze. It happened just now where everything on the screen froze at 11:47, but it just started responding again at 11:53.
Sometimes before this you'll see some jittering with the mouse, etc.

What graphics card?

And I get the feeling it usually happens after it has been running for awhile.
I believe it's the Intel HD Graphics 5500

Graphics is the achilles heel of Linux because no one wants to write good drivers.
although it's getting better slowly
okay so go to Intel's site and see if you can download their driver installer.
It didn't work for me last time because they hadn't updated it past 15.10, but hopefully they've done that by now.

I have noticed how much better is has become in recent years.
Ahh I see it says "This release of the Graphics Installer is targeted at Ubuntu 15.10 or Fedora 23. Ubuntu 16.04 is already current with the latest Q1 2016 Intel Graphics stack and therefore no Graphics Installer is needed."
I've read things about booting with acpi=off

3:59 PM
@Aaron don't do this please ! :)

Wasn't very tempted :)

@Aaron you should install ubuntu ... the whole experience is much better than running it from USB

I know. I've done that on the machine I'm typing from now (Lenovo). I've been given this new DELL from work and I'll ultimately dual-boot it. But the SSD is Bitlocker encrypted and I can't resize it until an onboarding process is complete (I don't want to blow it away).
So right now I at least have the machine + 2 screens running with practically everything I need right now.

heya

Howdy

4:07 PM
Huh? Seahorse seems to have a bug - it can't create a PGP key for me!
Can anybody try that on 16.04?

As an aside, I also notice my JS-intensive Chromium tabs (gmail, keep, dropbox) crash when the freeze occurs as well.

@ByteCommander install enigmail - open thunderbird and do it from there :)

Going to turn off GPU Hardware Acceleration.

Q: Detect WebP files

RandomblueI am using Ubuntu and type doesn't seem to work for webp images: bash: type: test.webp: not found How can I discriminate webp images from the command line?

4:23 PM
@ByteCommander use the command-line
or keybase, if you're on that.

Tim
@ByteCommander Seahorse just hangs for me too. I used KGPG
Or the command line works fine too.

So why everybody now needs gpg keys O_o have I started something viral ?

Tim
sing ubuntu code of conduct
and the tutorial there is about 6 years old

yeah, I think seahorse is pretty broken in 16.04
If anyone still needs to do it, use this answer:

A: How do I make a PGP key?

hhlpCreating your OpenPGP keys with gpg Step 1: Open a terminal and type: gpg --gen-key Step 2: GPG will now ask you a number of questions about the type of key you want to generate. follow the steps below to select the default option each time. Step 3: Check that your key has been generated by...

then continue the signing process.

@Seth a little suggestion : you should mention that you have to execute gpg2 instead of gpg when you are running 16.04 ! :)

user139252
4:36 PM
Good morning folks!

hello :)

@TheBrownOne Good morning ! early evening here ... Hello @TheBrownOne ! :)

@Tim So Byte Commander will as well nominate himself?

@Videonauth calm down merlion

user139252
Merlion?

4:42 PM
I am calm :))

user139252
Like, half fish, half lion?

calm down brown one

user139252
I'm cool as a cucumber in a fridge.

@cl-netbox I didn't know that was a thing!
just gpg works for me on 16.04.

@Seth some gpg commands only work when you execute gpg2 ... I figured it out when I signed the code of conduct some days ago ... by the way I didn't do this for nomination reasons ... :)

user139252
4:49 PM
Seahorse is a little broken in 14.04, too.

hmm. interesting. I wonder if that is why seahorse is broken @cl-netbox

user139252
I tried using it the other day, after I tried generating a key, I didn't see the window saying it was trying to generate one.

Q: Why can't we upvote comments on this years mod elections?

Mark KirbyI was reading a post from the 2014 elections and it has many upvoted comments. Why can't we do it this year? it would save a lot of "me too" comments. user139252
I put in my name and email and password, and then it closed

@MuditKapil voting won't start until the nominations close. There is a timeline on the side of the election page

user139252
4:50 PM
But when I made my key through the terminal and did gpg --list-keys, I saw the ones I tried making in Seahorse listed.

@Seth also this is a good example why I am so careful when it comes to dupes ... and yes - maybe this is the reason why seahorse doesn't do it properly

user136984
@TheBrownOne: You just have to wait a while and create enough random activity to make it happy.

user139252
But the application shouldn't entirely close during that time.

user139252
I saw no status window, even the main Seahorse window disappeared

user139252
None of my keys even showed up in Seahorse until I rebooted later in the day.

Tim
5:08 PM
@NathanOsman You still want a responsive site?

user139252
Responsiveness is easy. I can do it :D

Tim
Some good random activity is download a file etc

user139252
I already generated my key and everything.

user139252
I was just pointing out the issues I had with the Seahorse app

@Tim format a disk, delete firmware, random writes to disk >:-D

Seahorse is weird.
And I say that as someone who wrote the answer about signing and generating a key

wtf
answered, did an f5 and 3 upvotes on my answer

to say "Hi you nice looking magician"

user136984

"magician"?

user136984
That would be nice... :D

or wizard :=D

user136984
Right, you've confused me even further now... :D

you sure need to read more Discworld :=)
Rincewind is a fictional character appearing in several of the Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett. He is a failed student at the Unseen University for wizards in Ankh-Morpork, and is often described by scholars as "the magical equivalent to the number zero". He spends just about all of his time running away from various bands of people who want to kill him for various reasons. The fact that he's still alive and running is explained in that, although he was born with a wizard's spirit, he has the body of a long-distance sprinter. Rincewind is also reputed for being able to solve minor problems...

Believe it or not, I have a serious and responsible side to me so if I became a mod I would probably be more of those two, though I'm probably reasonably responsible at the moment, just I was a little, silly, at some point... :D

@ParanoidPanda so what do we learn ? british humor + russian humor = paranoid panda ! :D :D :D Hello my friend ! :)

user136984
You know, I actually donate money to Panda charities... :D

@AndroidDev please don't do this.
