A: How to exit Recovery Console in ubuntu 11.10?

Whew... fixed an embarrassing bug in my Firefox add-on.

@GeorgeEdison :( Did they give you any reason? :O
Yeah, but they didn't point to the offending code.
So I have to dig through it myself to find the problem.

@GeorgeEdison Good luck with getting your add on approved by Firefox.
06:14
Oh man, this is going to be harder to fix than I thought.
06:28
I am sure you can do it!
I'm certainly going to try... this involves a whole bunch of HTML escaping... not fun.
06:57
I think I got it now.
That is nice to hear.
@jokerdino you should edit that topic :)
I don't know Russian. :)
The page still 404s, though.
@jokerdino The translated one doesn't make sense for you?

It is kinda vague. So, I left it for the veterans.
have you flaged it?

somebody post it on Google+
I don't think that is pantheon
I am going to try pantheon now.
i asked him to show us how to make that

It is gnome-shell!
07:33
Night all.
Anyone here have experience with fixing bugs/submitting patches?
You can try reading the help pages?
Well, I did, but I'm stuck on practically the first step after getting set up with Launchpad
Where are you stuck at?
Basically, in the Get the Code section, I can't run bzr because it asks me for a password I apparently don't have/know
I tried my regular password (which I assumed it wanted), but it's not taking it
07:39
You have not informed bzr of your Launchpad ID, and you must do this to
write to Launchpad or access private data. See "bzr help launchpad-login".
Does it say something like this?
Actually, it's asking for this. It does so twice if all I do is hit Cancel.
What did you do?
You created a .ssh key or something?
Link to your launchpad profile please?
I think so...I followed all the steps in the Getting Set Up guide.
Try bzr branch lp:askubuntu-lens
Same thing.
07:45
Do you mind starting all over?
Delete your ssh key and the openpgp keys.
If it's relevant at all, the specific command I'm trying to run is bzr branch lp:ubuntu/software-center to try what I think might fix a bug I just ran into
And try doing it the right way?
@jokerdino Would you know how to do that?
Just edit the keys on my page, remove them, and re-run those commands again?
After removing from your LP profile. go to seahorse and delete them there.
I am downloading the software-center branch now.
Okay, I removed my SSH key and deactivated my OpenPGP key on Launchpad...must admit I've never used Seahorse before
07:50
You using Unity ?
I'm guessing I only want to get rid of what's under the "My Personal Keys" tab, but I see two keys in there and I'm not sure whether to get rid of one/both of them and which one
@jokerdino Yeah
Get rid of both of them.
One is the ssh key and the other one is pgp key.
Okay, both of those are gone now.
Let's create a ssh key first
In a terminal: ssh-keygen -t rsa
Should I use a passphrase?
07:55
You didn't give a name to the file right?
Nope
Stuck with the default
Do use a passphrase .
Can I just use my regular password, or might that be asking for trouble?
I used my user account password.
Okay, that's done...do I need to keep the output?
07:58
ls ~.ssh
What do you have?
ls: cannot access ~./ssh: No such file or directory
Oh, whoops
Hmm...that doesn't work either
err I forgot the directory.
Ah, here we go!
ls .ssh
ls ~/.ssh
08:00
err that one!
That gives id_rsa id_rsa.pub known_hosts
cat id_rsa.pub
copy the content and paste it to your profie.
Okay, got that part done. Now I just need a new OpenPGP key, right?
2
Q: How do I export my OpenPGP key?

jokerdinoI have tried the method prescribed in the Launchpad but it seems like I can't establish a connection with the key server. Using a web browser to upload the key doesn't work either. Is the keyserver down or is there any other method to upload my key?

Yep.
I am going to have it easy here. :D
BTW, you don't need to have ssh key and pgp key to check the code.
Just for submitting the patch.
Okay, now trying to go with the flow of the universe here and make some entropy for those random bytes...
08:07
Good luck. :)
And now I apparently have to wait a few minutes before I can use my new OpenPGP key with Launchpad :/
Just about 10 minutes.
They would send you an email regarding the matter.
Hello all!
@AmithKK Hi!
08:16
Hey @jokerdino @WarriorIng64
How do I sign a package?
Yeah, I haven't fixed any bugs before, so all of this is pretty much new to me. I've only reported new bugs and commented on existing ones up until this point
@jokerdino Using your PGP key
Explain ;s
But I think I might have an idea on what needs to be fixed here, so I figure now's as good a time as any to just jump on in
08:22
@jokerdino Wait a sec.. Ill pull out my post

oh i did it
Okay, finally Launchpad accepts my key fingerprint
@stefanopalazzo @AmithKK @jrg I have uploaded my first ever package to my ppa :D
Now I know how it is supposed to be done!
@WarriorIng64 Your pgp key is accepted?
@jokerdino Yep. That should be all done now
Now to try grabbing the Software Center code again...
Nice.
It's 6.5 MB big
lol...that time it just flat-out failed without asking me for a password. Nice
08:47
Now it is working?
@jokerdino Nope...it's not working even harder now
Oooh.
What command are you trying?
I think your bzr is blocked or something.
Here's my terminal output: pastebin.ubuntu.com/795786
Lemme try redoing the steps for setting up Bazaar...
purge bzr and try again?
Hmm, maybe. I'll try that then get back to you on it, because re-running bzr whoami and bzr launchpad-login seems to make no difference.
08:54
Anyway, what were you trying to fix in software center? :D
Something that's stopping me from posting reviews...I think it's just an extra argument in a function call somewhere
I'm not experienced with Python, but I think I know enough to take a stab at it on my own
Good luck
Hmm, reinstalling bzr didn't fix it either. What could I be doing wrong...?
Nice Amith!
Remove .bazaar and try again?
09:00
I'm wondering...is bzr branch lp:ubuntu/software-center really the correct command, or am I confused on where to get the branch from?
Is there a bite size bug somewhere?
I might just have the link wrong
That is the right command. Coz I have just branched the code to my comp.
May be you can try GUI?
Search for bzr in SC and you can find the GUI
@WarriorIng64 Whats your error
Hmm...do I want bzr-gtk or bzr-explorer?
16 mins ago, by WarriorIng64
Here's my terminal output: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/795786/
09:05
explorer
@WarriorIng64 Your pgp key doesent match
Amith; You don't need pgp keys for branching stuff.
And btw, do you want to join me in trying to create a GUI for managing notifications?
@jokerdino \o/ Yes
@jokerdino You need to auth to launchpad
I just have an idea. Nothing else implemented.
You sure?
Okay, I think I just got the branch using Bazaar Explorer.
09:09
I used to use bzr when I didn't even have a launchpad account.
Why the terminal didn't work, I dunno
How big is the folder? 6,5 MB?
@jokerdino Same here, actually, when I wanted to check out Marlin and stuff
@jokerdino No, That means you didnt put your lp login in
...actually, it's completely empty
09:10
:)
amith@amith-desktop:~/usc$ mkdir usc&&cd usc&&bzr branch lp:ubuntu/software-center
Most recent Ubuntu version: 5.1.5.1
Packaging branch status: CURRENT
Branched 175 revision(s).
Actually, wait, I just got confused...all that did was make a folder for it
But yeah, doing it for real gives me the exact same error message
@WarriorIng64 Your Keys dont match
do a cat ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub
@AmithKK If I set launchpad-login, I can't branch anymore.
09:12
@AmithKK How do I fix it, then? I just got a new key a while ago
@WarriorIng64 Put it in launchpad
I just made him get a new one.
https://launchpad.net/~<username>/+editsshkeys
Trust me, it's in there and active
@AmithKK How do you want to start?
09:15
@jokerdino Interface Design?
Hmm
Just installed Glade
Just checking. Do you have this file?
~.cache/notify-osd.log
I am planning to just present an interface for that.
@jokerdino Yep
Ill make a quick mockup
Maybe I should just post a question and see where that leads.
Not a bad idea.

I'm guessing this is the issue I'm hitting
The answer there says all I can do is wait.
So I guess I'll just try again in the morning...hmm.
Good luck.
...if I made a note on what changes I made, could I just go into where the Software Center is installed on my machine and edit the Python script there myself to at least check whether my fix would work?
After all, I am using the latest version.
You need the source to actually edit anything.
You wouldn't be having the source code to do stuff.
Actually, I think I found what I'm looking for in /usr/share/software-center/
Yep, looks like the .py source
Tell me if you do solve your bug.
I will see how the whole patch thingie works.
Will do (just hoping I don't royally screw anything over in the meantime, haha)
I was thinking of something else. @AmithKK
Let me try to put across mine.
@AmithKK What are those stars for?
@jokerdino Tickmarks
As in they are read?
@jokerdino No, thats the app allow list
09:41
@AmithKK I am not sure what that is supposed to mean :/
notify-manager as in you manage the notifications.
Is that what you were thinking about?
I was just thinking about being able to view previous notifications.
Well, I got the review window to show, so I think my fix actually works
It's stuck on submitting the review, but tbh it had a problem with that before. At least it's no longer crashing
Congrats on fixing the bug!
Almost
Thanks...though I won't consider it fixed until I can actually get it where the developers can see it
@WarriorIng64 Put it in the development mailing list
@AmithKK How do I do that?
09:53
@WarriorIng64 Firstly subscribe to be mailing list
Okay
Then how should I word it?
