@TheBrownOne @Serg Either of you up for some Minecraft? I'm setting up minigames :D
So Netflix updated its iOS app appearance finally. It looks nice, but every icon is just a question mark in a square

@Zacharee1 Oh maybe that was GraceNote who downvoted and then removed it when I fixed the issue with the image (see comments for more information)...
maybe
user136984
@Serg I know, it's because we were the ones who took up ByteCommander's challenge. He gave the initial idea, we just had to design something, so I made my thing, and Fabby made his. :)
user136984
Anyway, goodnight guys! :)

Hi.

@cl-Nathan
:p
You all have no idea how hard it is to type on a 6" screen while standing up on a bus holding on with the other hand.
Oh yes I do
And that's why I love Swipe
Swipe is my buddy! Especially since it fixes my spelling! :D
You missed the 6" screen part.
00:49
@NathanOsman 5.7" here
:D
Okay, fair enough.
And I still love Swipe
I know the reach issue
Sometimes I can use my left hand to hold on and anchor one corner of the phone at the same time.
Oh, and also carry my lunch bag.
sounds fun

02:24
@NathanOsman So, how will people get nVidia cards working? D:
user139252
This shift key is broken...
02:39
@NathanOsman wow, and now debian gets even harder to use...
You know what I love about cable internet? How it gets really slow after 5PM
I think there's a package that downloads and installs the driver.
Kind of like what the Flash package does.
that should be fine, a check box on install would make me happy
@Zacharee1 I guess the idea is to schedule downloads overnight.
02:47
that isn't what they were trying to remove were they @NathanOsman ?
What?
They removed the packages containing the pre-built kernel modules.
:/
huh, this is an interesting trend:
It seems there is a large number of people either uninstalling then reinstalling - or have several devices each
user139252

Scored a brand new $90 humidifier for $20!
04:02
@Mateo maybe testing for you on either multiple devices or multiple VMs?
@NathanOsman @Mateo - and the argument that the binary blob can't be distributed by a linux distro is total crap, because it links to GPL code but isn't GPL compatible is crap. You can link against GPL and be closed source proprietary as long as you send any improvements to the GPL code upstream and provide access to the library you linked against (kernel source) - or do I have a completely flawed understanding of GPL?
04:27
How's that for a script ? Didn't even take me 40 mins to write
0
A: Automatically reduce brightness on battery in Ubuntu 15.10?

SergIntro The script bellow uses dbus and on_ac_power shell script (which comes by default with Ubuntu) to poll for presence of an ac adapter and sets brightness according to values set in $HOME/.auto-backlightrc file. Installation Installation using git through terminal: Run sudo apt-get instal...

(didn't take 40 mins because of using boilerplate code and the header )
@hbdgaf good question but I always thought the spirit of the GPL was that you could always request the source.
IANAL though.
04:46
VTC this old one and new one as duplicates of this
VTC this as not about ubuntu
VTC this . Opinion based
05:36
@NathanOsman Yes - that was for the GPL part of the code. I thought you could dual license and be compatible with GPL and non-GPL code as long as you only linked them against each other - no static builds. So, independent but interconnected code. /me not a lawyer either, but it seems like I read it somewhere. Checking.
There it was - exceptions for core compiler and kernel headers
06:02
So I'm using QQ mail , chinese client, right ?
And I've made a web app for it
on my old system, with 13.10 on it . . .long ago
When I did apt-cache search unity-webapps just now, look what showed up there ? unity-webapps-qq-mail
Either I have contributed to Ubuntu in my meager ways, or there was an existing app, which i didn't know about

:D
user136984
@cl-netbox: Yeah, I will definitely write to the package maintainers about that...
@ParanoidPanda The thing is ... there seems to be no alternative to install the newest version except if you compile it yourself - but what about updating it without recompiling ?
@RPiAwesomeness BTW, my brother joined SE and does Pi stuff. He's been working on some fun stuff with his sense HAT and pi0
Top of the morning to you lads o/
@Serg Hello my friend ! ... nice to see you ! :)
15:56
@cl-netbox ^_^ like wise my friend ! How have you been ?
Morning!
@Serg been quite busy ... made some new answers this week ... :)
@James Hello and good morning ! :)
@cl-netbox I've been somewhat busy as well, but for the most part , I am just struggling to stay awake. Yesterday had written a quick script for brightness control, today it got accepted. Also, hopefully another answer will be accepted, one about pausing background process that spawned from a script. Meanwhile, I have assignment #3 in my python class . . .need to study more in other classes though
Gosh, nobody sells pagers anymore.
@Serg : that thing with the accepts ... this seems somewhat complicated ... some users say "wow - great - it works - thank you so much" ... and disappear ... without an accept or an upvote ... but : that's life ... :)
@Serg : for staying awake ... use our good old successful solution : a big mug of coffee and a good smoke ... will do this now ! ... back in 5 minutes ... :)
Good afternoon @Rinzwind ! :)
@cl-netbox yeah, most of my answers are not accepted. It's a holiday when OP accepts an answer :)
And especially when it's a script
Like "YES! My efforts were not in vain ! "
@Serg : yes I know ... I gave you some "compensation" for your effort ! :)
@cl-netbox ^_^ thank you very much. I've left a little bit too earlier
16:26
@Serg : Thank you very much my friend ! :)
@Serg : what makes me wonder from time to time is the fact that "mickey mouse answers" attract more users than solutions for serious problems ... but again ... that's life ! :)
@cl-netbox "mickey mouse answers " ? that's an interesting way to put it. I think to some extend that's true. The big problem with serious answers is that they take time to develop. Very often one could post a great solution , but by the time you post it, OP has accepted half-working answer from another user or abandoned the question
Timing is a big problem on stackoverflow in general
@Serg : yes for sure ... I completely agree with you ! :)
@Serg solution: post a quick answer and then expand it :=)
@Rinzwind that's what I've started doing lately with questions that require just one or two lines of code, but if it's a script - that may take time.
@Rinzwind : This is not so easy with the answers @Serg normally writes ! :)
16:40
@cl-netbox his problem >:=D I have several 25+ answers that needed 2 lines >:-D
@Rinzwind hahaha ... nice ... that is quite a good idea ... but you need some kind of ... let's say ... LUCK ... :D
@Rinzwind <.< what's your secret ? how do you find these questions ? And @muru too . 3 questions, pretty short, all accepted. Like WTF , how you guys do et ???
It's like, I wanna be a cool guy too !
@Serg most of my "short" answer ones are questions that should be dupes, but I couldn't find anything appropriate to close against
Like the guy with execve("ls",…)
I swear that should have something to close against.
Well, askubuntu.com/q/475198/295286 This ? @muru
:) I typically just google stuff. . . .
@Serg bingo!
VTCing in 3..2..1..

Glad I could help :)

this should be monospace
this isn't as it is in backticks
Dafuq
Did you mean backticks ?
No, until five minutes ago, code spans were showing up in serif font on mobile chat
And just now they stopped.
Sigh. I'd hoped to get 10-20 rep on Meta Stack Exchange for that. :(
Maybe NathanOsman is doing something with his scripts again :p
I don't know what I am doing here should I be here?
What's here any way?
17:03
@HenryWHHack well you're in AskUbuntu chat room, so if you're into Linux and Ubuntu, you're in the right place :)
@Serg just keep looking at the frontpage when it is a slow day >:-D
And even if not, you're still welcome :)
@Rinzwind That's what I shall do >:) I am also subscribed to rss feed of the command line tag
@Serg dutch times around 8.30am to 11.30am are very good.
that's gmt-1 probably
@Rinzwind Well, that's like what . . .10 pm at my place when it's 8AM in Denmark ? Yeah, in the past I would stay at night. Now it's more difficult
Removed my synaptics driver . . . Will be back in 15 seconds - need reboot
and yet it is still there Oo

@ParanoidPanda OK, and is that a laptop ?
user136984
@Serg: Yes, why?
@ParanoidPanda I want to test dbus command that disables touchpad. It works in 14.04 but i cannot test it in VM, because it doesn't have touchpad option. Besides i wanna ensure it works on actual hardware
0
A: How to completely disable the touchpad device on my computer? (It's back on after a reboot)

SergMultiple ways can be done. I've chosen two very simple ones. First approach is by using dconf (and this is my prefered approach, since it survives reboots at least on my 14.04 LTS system ) , more specifically this command: dconf write /org/gnome/settings-daemon/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad-ena...

user136984
@Serg: I only have a touchpad so I don't think that that's such a good idea... :P
@ParanoidPanda You have a keyboard as well, don't you? :P
@ParanoidPanda Sure if you don't feel comfortable, i understand :) But it is perfectly safe. Append false to disable and run same command with true to enable

@ByteCommander @Serg: Maybe I'll have a go later... :)

I'm not even too sure what he's talking about... But sounds like he wants something to do with Windows rather than Ubuntu so it's probably off-topic anyway...

He probably bought a machine with Ubuntu pre-installed, did something crazy and formatted the disk... And now he wants to put Windows on it or something and doesn't know how...
user136984
I'm not sure, but that's what it sounds like, or maybe he wants to install software on a formatted disk with no Operating System... :D
