there are ways around it but those are making the upgrade fail more than getting you a new install

When downloading another version or trying to open the new or old or any of the 5 downloads your software will not open them. " Archive manger"states " an error occurred while trying to load archive" then you cant even close that window because it does not respond then I have to force the closure of the window. So how at any point is this my fault? why would you not make it clear a glass how to up load and run the OS from the start for us non- techies — angry at lying linux users 2 hours ago

If your archive manager stops responding, that isn't Ubuntu, it's Windows/Mac. Definitely a hardware issue.
