@Mateo What's the difference between "Open terminal" and "Get terminal"?
open will launch the program its self - if installed
kos
kos
Right, didn't see it was in the screenshot....
get will take you to the ubuntu store and search "terminal" to install it
00:25
@dn-ʞɔɐqɹW My site should work completely without JS, except for the contact form :D
kos
kos
@Mateo Ok, I've added some. Is there a way I can test the scope without a phone? Do I need to download the SDK?
00:53
Yippee! NitroShare was just approved for the Mac app store!
8
woot!
\o/
This means I can use their branding assets too!
@NathanOsman Whoa
Awesome
is it published?
01:13
@kos well, the unity 8 desktop session is broken right now - so otherwise if you could install things there that would be good - otherwise the sdk with the desktop runner would be the best way to go
but, i'm not sure if the desktop runner has settings to recognize language, anyway
thank you for the awesome work @kos
kos
kos
@Mateo Ok, I'll download the SDK then, I want to understand to which functions do the missing strings relate to exactly
I'll finish tomorrow, as of now I can't find out whether "Terminal" (the app's name) should be localized or not.
@James it's pending. May take 24 hours.
for the wicked is a category = dangerous commands
kos
kos
@Mateo Np, It wasn't really too much of an effort, it was fun. :)
@Mateo Yeah I got it, I was thinking if it was possible to render the exact same meaning somehow...
01:28
i'll switch my phone to Italian and see if they translate the app
@kos as long as it dosn't have connotations that are too explicit in italian - it's kind of suggests magic but keeps it fun in english
so, yes it is translated :)
kos
kos
@Mateo Hm I see... I guess I'll just go for the literal translation of "dangerous commands".
user139252
I was going through the review queue and I found an answer that suggested running sudo apt-get remove apt, so I downvoted because this is a very bad thing.
user139252
It was an audit... and I failed for downvoting?
@TheBrownOne Wut.
kos
kos
@Mateo Oh perfect!
@TheBrownOne Link?
user139252
01:35
@kos one of the other missing ones - adapt and copy/paste - is above a box instructing users that they can copy the text from it to paste in terminal - so anything suggesting to copy and paste text would be good
user139252
I guess the user wanted to break their system.
@TheBrownOne What was the question?
"How to break my install?"
:D
user139252
Ah, I see now...
user139252

Q: Could I remove apt with apt?

TimI know that I can use apt-get remove <package> to remove a program. But apt is a program itself. Could I use apt-get remove apt to remove it, or would it get confused part way through?

01:36
Lol.
user139252
I should have scrolled all the way down to see the question...
user139252
I reacted too quickly seeing the remove apt line
one of my favorite commands is aptitude install aptitude ;)
kos
kos
@TheBrownOne That one was a tricky one though.
@Mateo Cool. I'll do another copule, I'll leave those vague "Open" and similar for tomorrow. I'm also curious to see how it ends up looking.
oh, i'll tell you about "open" then, that one is hard to tell given what it does
user139252
01:40
What is the "Time+" in top? Because I know I haven't been playing Tetris for 7 hours...
@NathanOsman nice, is that up now?
kos
kos
@Mateo Actually it would be the only one left... What does it do?
ok, so when you click "open" it opens the webpage for that command in the browser
it is a small button - so a one word equivalent
@Mateo It is for me.
for - webpage, website, or just something like browser
or just for open if that makes sense that would open the command in the browser
picture
user139252

kos
kos
@Mateo Hmmm for now I went for "Apri" ("Open"... it's just as vague as "Open" in English in that context).
that will work
kos
kos
Let me see if something better occurs to me along with something to translate "Powered by"... That one should probably stay as "Powered by", it's often untranslated.
awesome :)
yeah, it has a very specific meaning - that doesn't include things like authorization, or implementation
things like "using the api from:", "using service from:"
hm...
kos
kos
Reverso Context gives me the equivalent of "Powered by" as in "Powered by [electricity]", as expected. :)
But anyway "Powered by" it's often untranslated. We use tons of Anglo-Saxonisms nowadays.
02:36
@NathanOsman oh, noticing something on the website - can you turn on full justify - since most of the paragraphs only have two lines anyway
I usually just break words so they flow under
like this
will turn into:
this is the part that really suffers from it:
the first line has a lot of space between words, for not a lot of pay off

Oli
Oli
For... Windows?
15:03
@Oli SORRY. SHell
I have been add it for a while
My brain is fried
Current code:
> ls /home/*/imap/*
Oli
Oli
Your keyboard seem to be possessed. This is not a good situation to be in to write code.
@Oli Need to get this done though. SO... Lets continue
That code display all paths, even the empty imap/* dirs
Need it to display only the dirs which have content, /home/someuser/imap/cheese
Oli
Oli
Something like find /home/*/imap/* -maxdepth 1 -type d -not -empty ?
@Oli My hero.
Need to do some further testing, but , so far so good
Oli
Oli
oli@bert:~/Desktop$ mkdir -p home/oli{1..5}/imap
oli@bert:~/Desktop$ touch home/oli{2,5}/imap/cheese
oli@bert:~/Desktop$ find home/*/imap/* -maxdepth 1 -type d -not -empty
oli@bert:~/Desktop$ find home/*/imap -maxdepth 1 -type d -not -empty
home/oli2/imap
home/oli5/imap
Didn't need the last /* in my case but yeah, something like that should work.
(Note I don't have a leading / on my paths because I'm just testing this in ~/Desktop)
Obv if you wanted directory listings you'd chain that in with a -exec ls {} + or -execdir {} \; or something like that.
15:14
@Oli Yes. obviously. Just for the newbs, among, us. Not me... Could you display an example code...
Oli
Oli
oli@bert:~/Desktop$ find home/*/imap -maxdepth 1 -type d -not -empty -exec ls {} +
home/oli2/imap:
cheese

home/oli5/imap:
cheese
Writing with a keyboard that is under possession is not a good thing.
Oli
Oli
I'm not sure what you want to do with these /home/*/imap directories that you know are not empty, but that's how you'd ls them.
@Oli We have multiple shared servers, with multiple domains, with multiple mailboxes. This is to count/list them.
@NathanOsman gratz! :-)

@ParanoidPanda ^^ :-P
@ParanoidPanda oh and already fixed in Ubuntu :=)
15:55
The basic idea is that we don't have to worry about it because most of the time the malformed request will be dropped by the DNS servers
BIND 8+ drops those malformed DNS queries and responses, I believe.
So yeah, update (duh) but unless you're running a DNS server, don't sweat too much
Oli
Oli
@James Could somebody point you (via an advert or whatever) to their DNS server though? Or are you saying that intermediate DNS servers would filter it out?
good call @james :-)
added the cve number to the title. makes it easier to find and dupe (likely we get tons of q's about it :P )
@Oli Intermediary
so i query 8.8.8.8, which queries up the tree. Even if someone, somewhere responds with the malformed query, 8.8.8.8 will drop it and just return a NXNORECORDFOUND error or something like that
Oli
Oli
15:59
Yeah fair point
@SwiftOnSecurity I tested BIND forwarding to the PoC server provided and it rejects the response as malformed.
.@MalwareTechBlog Will the glibc malicious DNS response make it through an intermediate recursive resolver?
@SwiftOnSecurity @MalwareTechBlog Not likely. Should be truncated or thrown out. We strive to avoid TCP for many reasons, this being one.
Oli
Oli
They'd have to MitM your connection with 8.8.8.8 to inject their nastiness.
Yup
which I suppose they could do
if they have network level access
but at that point, it'd be easier to exploit you other ways
@TheBrownOne yup, sure do.
like I know some networks that blackhole everything on port 53 that isn't their activedirectory DNS servers
16:00
Are we talking about the glibc vulnerability?
Oli
Oli
Well, some routers are pretty hackable. That gives them exactly the access they'd need to run code on your box.
@davidu @SwiftOnSecurity @MalwareTechBlog fwiw, PowerDNS appears to reject exploitation at 3 points cuz we r boring & distrust large packets
@NathanOsman ding ding ding! will you take the next question for this brand new fridge?
we r boring and distrust large packets - pretty much lol
@Rinzwind is it a "smart" fridge?

Yes, indeed.

you want to bake a cake and the oven wants to 1st upgrade java :P
there goes your cake party
Oli
Oli
Yeah but Minecraft.
user139252
@TheBrownOne that is likely just for show.
user139252
@Oli @NathanOsman So, if it's such a smart oven, can you just throw stuff in it, wait a while, and take out a cake?
user139252
If so, it would be very dangerous for my diet.
@TheBrownOne yes but it wont make it if you throw in the wrong items >:-D
user139252

@ParanoidPanda Look here

@Mateo I assume it's the same as the Android version. So should work well on AT&T. T-Mobile a little.

worked faster than contact through godaddy last time it went
user139252
@Mateo How did you set that up?
17:33
you can put a verification for you webpage on there - if it can't verify it - it means the page is down - keybase lets you know verification failed
basically just a text file on the site that they can read
user136984
@Mateo: Sure! :)
cool, you should be able to find one of my e-mails on my website or github linked from my profile here
