@Fabby thank you very much - removing chat post tested and : SUCCESS ! :D
@Ravan seen :)
@jokerdino It's a bug...
balpha (developer of SE) is already on it...
Please don't test any further...
@cl-netbox have you seen your answer with new flavor
hg8
hg8
@cl-netbox I don't think he is using Ubuntu...
@cl-netbox he says he does not have "Ubuntu logo" not "wheel" in the corner
@Ravan yes seen flavor - looks nice ! - and what about +1 ? :D
@cl-netbox wait!
13:05
@hg8 maybe a solution is to reinstall unity - but I don't write this because I risk to get downvoted ... ! :)
hg8
hg8
@cl-netbox unity-control-center worked for him so.... its weird
@cl-netbox I need to get gold then I will vote!
@Ravan ??? please explain !!!
@Fabby I got pinged, yes. Lets not do that again.
@Fabby note that's what the Sandbox channel is for.
I somehow doubt he found the bug first.
13:07
still
that's what the Sandbox channel is for
@cl-netbox see now
@ThomasW. I never thought it would work...
@ThomasW I am not disagreeing with you
Anyone want to review my answer and give me any pointers on what I may have missed? askubuntu.com/a/677891/10616
@Ravan Thanks ! =)
13:08
@jokerdino: you're a chat mod.
can you delete my original buggy ping?
178/255 :\
@Ravan Can I help you with that - I don't know what you mean ... ?
@jokerdino: thanks!
Oli
Oli
@ThomasW. 802.11n supports channel bonding. You commonly get 3-channel cards and routers that together can do 450mbps. Not sure if that applies.
@cl-netbox thanks =) sorry no
13:10
@Ravan what is 'gold' ?
@Oli not in this case - the person was asking if their internal card was dual band, and whether not having 5GHz gives them more speed
@Oli Given they're on a laptop, and likely not working with such setups (or capable routers), I left it out.
@Oli it also doesn't address the fact that the average network doesn't have 450Mbps down speed even on the pipe from the ISP
so it's not really relevant in this case if they're talking about raw network speed over the internet and such
Oli
Oli
@ThomasW. Sure, but your answer says the maximum speed for 802.11n is 150mbps, which is technically incorrect.
@Oli then I'll change it for 'single-channel'
Oli
Oli
13:13
whatever the ASCII-emoticon is for thumbs up
@ThomasW. higher bandwidth is useful for PC-to-pc transfer (nowhere mentioned)
@Oli addressed in a parentheses in the theoretical speeds section.
@Fabby true, and i expand a little about the higher speed in the internal networks issue in that section - however given they were more worried about speed and not really saying computer-to-computer, I assumed they meant their ISP speeds to the 'net
@ThomasW. NAAA... ;-)
@ThomasW. so where is this sandbox for me to test whether the ping bug fix works everywhere?

Sandbox

Where you can play with chat features (except flagging) and ch...
@ThomasW. I don't know about AC being all that new. Mid range phones and laptops are starting to support it
(and by starting I mean I can actually get some of those in India)
13:20
@ᔕᖺᘎᕊ test mandated by Balpha
no problems, now @Fabby
@ThomasW.: did you get pinged by the above?
thanks!
Al good now!
My question got undeleted again:
16
Q: He who must not be named

FabbyFor some or other reason, typing @ᔕᖺᘎᕊ pings everyone in a chat room... Works in all chat rooms (only tested 2 as I don't want to be a jerk)

@chat-mods -------^
hg8
hg8
that was quick
13:26
@hg8 yup!
10 minutes and it was solved!
hg8
hg8
impressive
this was the bug...
Poor man (aka me) needs some votes: meta.askubuntu.com/a/14443/158442

Q: Xserver sets monitor to sleep after 10 minutes

thomasd35My installation, Ubuntu server 14.04 with just xorg and firefox installed. The server boots up and immediatly starts firefox with the disired webpage in fullscreen mode. After 10 minutes my monitor goes to sleep. How can i disable the sleep function of the monitor?

@muru upvoted.
13:34
@Fabby Thanks! May the blessings of Vim rain down upon you!
@muru I know how to use vim, but prefer any other editor. (I use nano in the cli)
(I basically upvoted the person, not the answer) >:-)
@Fabby ... in that case, may you be guided to the path of enlightenment, by asking at Vi and Vim. :P
@muru :D :D :D
@muru i've seen only two very expensive AC cards for LInux laptops, and most computers still ship with b/g/n (or a/b/g/n dualband)
@muru you're right it's not brand spanking new, but...
@Fabby No
The Intel 3160 is not that expensive (got it on ~US$400 laptop for my parents)
That's what surprised me. I hadn't hoped to see an AC card in a laptop of that price.
But then, that laptop beat the crap out of the Dell Latitudes my department bought for an extra $200 each.
13:42
He @ParanoidPanda =)
@muru The standard card still going into brand new Dell systems is still b/g/n or dualband but not AC
user136984
@A.B.: Hi! :)
user136984
@Fabby: How did you manage to ping me with that weird stuff? :D
@ThomasW. I know. The nearest AC was a Precision that cost yet another $200.
:(
13:43
Lenovo FTW, I suppose
@Ravan: When using a big picture, the text must be re-aligned as well! ;-)
(I still like my version better, but I'm not going to go into an edit-war with you over this)
user136984
VTC this EOL question.
@ParanoidPanda it may have 14.10 in the title but thats just a very general question that is applicable to all releases
@Fabby - I just placed my first answer on U&L ! :)
13:59
@fossfreedom still a dupe though. Oli's answer covers it.

Can I make my java application execute shell code?

Q: How to execute system commands (linux/bsd) using Java

Eric SchulmanI am attempting to be cheap and execute a local system command (uname -a) in Java. I am looking to grab the output from uname and store it in a String. What is the best way of doing this? Current code: public class lame { public static void main(String args[]) { try { Pr...

@muru sounds like it - VTC on the basis of EOL is wrong though.
@Ravan Please don't edit low quality answers. Just flag them as such...
14:03
(in this case just a command, not very different from the accepted answer without explanation why it is better)
@ParanoidPanda Yes, but later Java versions may throw security errors
@Fabby: On one of the other sites I managed to politely harass someone into turning what was a pretty poor answer, into something I'd consider a good example of how to answer a question. Commenting might be appropriate ;)
@ParanoidPanda see my question here..‌.
@JourneymanGeek got a flag declined that way
worked out well in the end
@muru: I mean, commenting in addition to/rather than flagging
>_>
14:05
Dammit, wrong link:

Q: Declined flag for new answer duplicating existing ones

@muru: I can't really comment on AU moderation choices ;p
On AU I'm a poor humble low rep user too :)
@cl-netbox And you just got your first upvote! >:-)
@JourneymanGeek ah, the lack of power is truly humbling, as I find out each time I go to SO/SU/SF.
lol
Honestly, the rep's more empowering than the diamond
@JourneymanGeek That exactly what I always do (@ravan)
14:08
(and well the soft power, I guess)
Yep. Just being able to edit grammar and formatting without a second thought.
@muru: High rep does that
@muru try meta.se! A very angry crowd!
@Fabby I do. Got a feature request rotting around at -9 somewhere. :D
@muru And make some new mistakes (in my case). Not talking about you! ;-)
@JourneymanGeek Wow!
@JourneymanGeek I'm still most proud of my reversal badge
look at the original question...
user136984
14:14
@Fabby: I'm sorry, but how on Earth did you find out that that pinged everybody? I mean, did you randomly once type it in, or is there something to it that I do not see, or...? :D
@Fabby: there's no benefit for me here outside turning an answer that was deleted before, into something awesome ;p
@ParanoidPanda There are tons of things you do not see! :D
user136984
:D
@JourneymanGeek No, and I thought there was no benefit for me answering a heavily downvoted answer... I thought I'd just calm the guy down a bit...
(He was freaking out at the time)
(or off his meds)
@ParanoidPanda But to answer your question: I found out by accident.
wierdly I'm almost certain I remember that one, but somewhere else
14:17

The solution for this question no longer works for the latest version of Firefox, so should I ask a new question?
suggest unaccept it and edit the question to bump it to the front page. If you want more visibility add a bounty to it.

@blade19899 hey, maybe you know the answer to this.. in My 0 A.D. install WASD stopped moving the camera. D opens the developer menu and W toggles between some other view I'm not sure how to describe.
That breaks the entire game for me.
I can't find a setting anywhere.
hmm, shift no longer rotates the camera either.
@Fabby What does that message means?
I blame the update that was released today.
@ParanoidPanda Sorry, I had to run a tour here for some execs. I actually am using Chrome, and it was not working.
