hi guys
whats going on?
so i have ubuntu installed alongside windows7 and windows 8 on the laptop i am using. how would i go about deleting the other 2 partitions so that ubuntu is the sole OS? Also is it worth it to do so in terms of the performance gains for the computer?
00:55
@pingOfDoom You can use gparted for that. sudo apt-get install gparted. Performance gains will be negligible if any.
01:09
ooh ok. also is there an easy way to transfer files between the partitions?
@pingOfDoom Yup. You should be able to just mount the partitions on Nautilus and transfer the files like normal. You might need to disable hybrid boot in Windows 8 before its partitions will mount though.
whats nautilus lol?
and how do i mount the partitions on there lol
Nautilus is the default file manager.
im a complete noob with ubuntu lol
Your drives/partitions should appear here, somewhat like this:
just click on one and Nautilus (the file manager) will attempt to mount it.
01:58
@Seth evening!
@Fabby @A.B o/
Hey man @cl-netbox I got second bounty here
@Fabby thank you
02:34
@chmike thank you

@NathanOsman \o
04:10
So it's not actually that hard to import a Photo Sphere from Google Camera into Blender.
04:58
And what happened to "Set Title" in gnome-terminal???
05:15
ahoy @NathanOsman
Argh.
That painful moment when you compare MD5 hashes on a large file you just downloaded and it doesn't match.
>.<
I'm quite sorry, but.... sucks for you
Well, it could have been worse. It was already broken into multiple 1 GB chunks.
That at least is a blessing.
On the other hand, it looks like I'm 2/3 of the way done with my current toy.
You may be able to play that card game before they ship actual cards... albeit in hotseat mode, but still.
05:37
@hbdgaf With your CLI app?
@NathanOsman yup
even at 100% of the cli app, i'm still only a third of the way through the trello board and some of those cards are grossly simplified.
still, something that works would be nice.
Yeah, and I'm sure having some feedback from testers will help create some energy to keep going.
This is true. And I already have 3 bugs for myself.
This would be better if, but I'll do that after it works so works at least marginally is goal number 1
Some of them will sort themselves out when I move away from the CLI version, but I'ld still like to fix them.
This has been playing for like ever... and it just doesn't get old. We'll see though.
trying to build it to be easily scalable to more than 2 players. it would be easier if i never wanted a 3+ player mode, but i'm building it with that in mind.

2 hours later…
07:34
@Ravan: Good! (and stop thanking me)
:P ;-)
@hbdgaf You need testes for a card game?
in CLI mode?
Good! I'll be using my best cli debugging tool yet!
Haven't used it for debugging in years!
08:07
@Fabby ;P
Good Morning ! o/

@Fabby - good morning ... I don't see anything ... no upvote ... :)

Q: How to quick move+resize a window using ALT key+Mouse on Ubuntu Mate 15.04?

Axel WernerOn earlier Linux GUI Desktops it was quick n easy to move around or resize any window just by holding the ALT Button + klicking and draging the mouse on almost any position of the app window. so there where no need to "aim" for a specific "handle" or spot on the window. with ubuntu Mate 15.04 ...

@cl-netbox I gave answer to my new question
09:40
@Ravan As I am adding 'flavor' rarely to my answers, don't you think you sometimes add too much ... ? =)
09:58
@UbuntuQuestionsonU&L Things like this are why one should not blindly upgrade. I prefer to stay on the LTS where there are no surprise changes.
10:48
@cl-netbox on mobile phone. You should see upvote now, about a decade less then you, but there is another one about a decade your senior...
@Brandin you're tespondind to a bot...
it just shows ubuntu questions pn our unix&linux sister site... ;)
pn = on
@Fabby Thanks !!! As I always say : age doesn't matter anyway, important is your attitude ! You are as young as you feel though ... ! =)
😂
@Fabby Nice community here - mixed through all ages - great to know that I am not the only "old fart" ! :D

11:55

13:28
@A.B.: Did you see my Q&A by the way? :)
@ParanoidPanda oh, cool
user136984
:)
user136984
I'm surprised why people are only upvoting the answer though... Why not the question too?
user136984
Oh good! My first upvote on the actual question! :D Thanks! :)
13:51
Close this as too broad, or unclear.
i think too broad works better
@ParanoidPanda gave you a comment for consideration
i know not sending data to Mozilla may 'seem' good but the reports being generated and not sent is a waste of disk space, IMO
@RPiAwesomeness I tried to help with your translation but some of them are hard with no context. Let me know when you're online so you can tell me what exactly I'm translating.
user136984
By the way, what happened to wiki.tox.im?
user136984
Why is the site offline?
user136984
Have I missed something?
14:07
@ParanoidPanda Moved to wiki.tox.chat.
As everything moved from tox.im to tox.chat.
As well as the repository, but it also got a different directory structure and key, so you have to set it up from scratch.
user136984
@ByteCommander: Why did they move? And if their old PPA is no longer safe, then what of their old site, I went to it just now and was told that the connection timed-out, could I have gotten anything malicious from the site or is it properly shutdown?
user136984
Sorry to be such a paranoid panda... :P But just want to be sure.
14:32
@ParanoidPanda Read their blog. The owner of the old domain took the company's money and escaped...
user136984
@ByteCommander: I have, and it says that he is now holding the domains 'hostage', so I am wondering if that could mean that he also has some nasty surprises awaiting those who go there...
Upvotes please for my brutal solution ?=

Q: Couldn't find libcgroup.h in Ubuntu 14.04

user148865libcgroup.h is generally located at /usr/include/libcgroup.h. After searching whole file-system ( find / -type f -name 'libcgroup.h' ), couldn't find it. From where can I get it?

@cl-netbox just curious ,how old are you?
what up guys
?
bin/sh -c
what does the -c command flag doing ?
!!google "lala"
@AlexanderSolonik read the man page
-c Read commands from the command_string operand instead of from the standard input. Special parameter 0 will be set from the command_name operand and the positional parameters ($1, $2, etc.) set
from the remaining argument operands.

@ParanoidPanda You can find lots of information about setting color prompts here - https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Color_Bash_Prompt
Try out a few of the examples and find one that works for you.
user136984
@Brandin: Thanks! :)
user136984
17:19
@Brandin: Ah, there is a slight problem, due to this detection, my security system won't allow me to visit that website, could you instead post an answer to my question explaining how one achieves it and maybe linking to the site? :)
@Ravan cu =)
user136984
17:34
Why am I seeing barely any package updates by the way? For instance all of the bugs that I have reported which have been recently fixed have had updates released for Wily, but not Vivid, how come?
user136984
I mean I understand that it will be the latest release, but it hasn't even gone into final Beta yet, and shouldn't the current Stable non-LTS release be getting the latest updates?
They freeze packages before the new release. No more updates (except security maybe) for Vivid until Wily is out for a while. And then it goes EOL...
@ParanoidPanda I found that page by searching linux bash color prompt tset . Maybe you can view it in Google's page cache. Just reading it should be safe.
user136984
18:05
@Brandin: Ok
user136984
I have messed something up it seems, could someone please give me the default line for PS1 if colour is enabled?
user136984
In .bashrc that is.
Funny enough? =)

A: pdfpc Installation

A.B. If you want to compile software yourself, then it is normal that other libraries are needed. Typically, these libraries are available for Ubuntu If not, then start again with point 1 =) For pdfpc you need libPoppler and librsvg. Therefore start a search in your system: libPoppler % apt-cach...

18:21
@A.B. A nice one. How long did that take to write?
@ParanoidPanda If you messed up your prompt you can go back to this for a bare-bones default:

Q: Why are there so many users that are unable to set and use their monitor's optimal resolution?

DevRobotI have seen so many questions that ask something to effect of: How to apply resolution that isn't available in "Display Settings"? Almost all have not been solved. Such questions have been asked for the past 10 years. Are these problems to do with poor levels of kernel support for monitors? Or...

user136984
@Brandin: It's fine, I finally figured out how all the colours work and fixed it! Now I've got a very nice looking Terminal prompt! :)
user136984
18:36
@Terrance @A.B. @Brandin: Are the transparency settings for the Terminal stored in .bashrc or somewhere else do any of you know? :)
@ByteCommander ten minutes? :)
O.O' Oh!
You're a fast typer...
@ParanoidPanda I think it's part of the settings of the emulator, e.g. gnome-terminal.
@ParanoidPanda not in bashrc. It's a terminal thing. Check the settings via dconf-editor or in the terminal settings. But only if you use the staging PPAs for GNOME 3.16. The transparency is not available in the standard repositories. The PPAs have a patched version of gnome-terminal
user136984
18:51
@A.B.: I remember finding something in my Terminal settings when I wasn't doing it from a PPA though... But anyway, now I am using the GNOME 3.16 PPA, and for some reason the settings just don't stick, well they do, but after restarting Terminal I have to go and turn it off and on again and then resize the Terminal window to get any transparency, and as nobody else seems able to reproduce this I seem to be stuffed... Any ideas? :)
Nope, I use gnome-terminal, but with Unity.
@ParanoidPanda no, no problems here :\
user136984
@ByteCommander: So if you go into Edit > Profile preferences > Colours you don't have any settings of the sort?
user136984
But maybe my mind is clouding about that, perhaps I only got the option when I started using the one from the PPA...
user136984
@A.B.: Strange...
18:56
Can it be that I can't spawn a gnome-terminal from inside a gnome-terminal? o.O
PPAs seem like a bad idea to me. If you want a custom package or bleeding edge/customized version, I always compile from source and put it in /usr/local
@ParanoidPanda As I can't launch an English terminal (because I can't launch any gnome-terminal instance from inside another terminal!?), you have to compare my German one...
user136984
@Brandin: Well this is the official GNOME staging PPA so I am sure that it will be fine.
user136984
@ByteCommander: Well, you do seem to have the transparency option that @A.B. said was only in the patched version...
user136984
But maybe I misunderstood. :)
19:06
'staging' does not mean 'stable'. The point of compiling from source is that you can adjust the prefix e.g. /usr/local or somewhere else, so it doesn't affect your stable system. The system package managed tools are not generally relocatable like that.
@ParanoidPanda or I'm wrong
user136984
@A.B.: Ok, we'll go with that then... :P
user136984
19:26
Anyway, thanks for all the help today you guys! :)
user136984
And goodnight from me! :)
user136984
How rude...
user136984
@GeorgetheDev: I said GOODNIGHT! :P
user136984
@GeorgetheDev: Goodnight!
@ParanoidPanda See you later.
user136984
19:27
Good boy! :D
@ParanoidPanda cu :)

@ParanoidPanda Sorry, I was away from chat and couldn't reply. It looks like you got it all figured out anyway. =)
20:49
@ByteCommander Random off-topic question: Has the ChatExchange6 API changed at all between the CE3 and CE6 versions? Obviously the code has so it's compatible with both, but have any of the API methods been renamed or majorly reworked?
@hbdgaf :/ No clue what you're blabbering about... (Old fart, memory fading, etc) ;-)
@ParanoidPanda yes, but apparently some other people as well!
