Q: How do I make duplicity upload to MEGA?

blade19899In unity settings, you have a Backups option, there you can choose from Storage Locations: FTP, SSH, WebDAV, Windows Share, Custom Location, Local Folder. Way back there was an option there to upload to the Ubuntu One Cloud Storage site, I'm looking for something similar, to upload to mega. I tr...

I tried out everything, but still no luck. Help, anyone?
09:38
Still no luck with MEGA :(
@blade19899 I have no ideas on that one >:=D
@Rinzwind That looks like it deserves moderator attention.
@Rinzwind To bad. I am looking to use MEGA as my main backup source.
09:56
Is there some special problem with Flash recently? Firefox blocks it even after Ubuntu upgrades it.
@NicolasRaoul Who needs flash?
@A.B. Slack, Github, Youtube all want it
@NicolasRaoul Update Flash. but, you're gonna have to get used to firefox blocking flash. Or, try Shumway. Not a 100%, but will be.
10:20
@blade19899 Does it have to be duplicity? (I use CloneZilla and BackInTime)
@Rinzwind Flagged as very low quality. Just recommend deletion in the low-quality queue... @blade19899
@NicolasRaoul No they don't... Use HTML5 and Shumway...
@NicolasRaoul I've uninstalled flash a couple of days ago and haven't run into any problems yet!
@Fabby No it doesn't have to be.
@Fabby I am saving all my settings on MEGA. I have an install all script, which at first will install all my software, and configure things the way I want to. After that, I want to be able to restore the backup previous made, so that I don't have to manually configure my email client, browser, qTox, Popcorn Time DB's.
Install apps, restore backup, and start using everything, like Ubuntu was never was reinstalled.
I think Ubuntu had a similar feature a few version back. But, it was removed, because it was to buggy.
10:38
@blade19899 I flagged it custom with motivation :P
@Rinzwind Lol, why did he signed his answer though?

I restored it in a Virtualbox as a test.
And everything worked fine
My emails, firefox, everything. Awh yeah!
Now, if only i could get deja-dup to work with MEGA, I could do this with a click of a button!
We'll technically, not everything worked fine. I made a backup from a dutch Ubuntu, and restored it in a English Ubuntu. So, some of the folders were copied to the desktop. But, that's just when you different languages.

My desk.
user136984
@Seth: Oh... I thought it was a bath! :D
user136984
Have you ever tried bath cheese?
A cheese bath or cheese from Bath?
user136984
No, a cheese called "Bath Cheese".
user136984
14:48
I'm not sure of its origin...
user136984
But its top layer looks like a bubble bath! :D
user136984
I think that's where it acquired its name from, but it would be interesting to know where it originated from.
user136984
@Seth: So, do you know the cheese I mean? Google images will probably have it if you are unsure of how it looks...
No, I've never had it. I don't eat much cheese :)
And don't Google "bath cheese". So many pictures of people in cheeto baths. Disgusting!
user136984
@Seth: Oh dear... I was about to google it, but now I think I won't! :D
14:53
grr, messing with my server's interfaces file and now it's stuck at "starting configure network devices".
user136984
@Seth: Did you know that Amazon actually has a rather large range of cheeses on offer?
I did not, but I am not surprised.
user139252
That stuff looks icky D=
user136984
Although I wonder how they get it to you... Imagine opening a parcel from Amazon and finding lots of cheese in there...
user136984
@Seth: Would you want to eat cheese that had been posted to you?
user136984
14:55

@HeatherBrown: No, especially blue cheese... I mean imagine how much that would stink out the post office, the post van (or whatever transportation method used), your hall way... And imagine if it escaped and caused havoc all of other people's letters! Imagine then opening a letter with lots of blue cheese stuck all over it... Would you even touch that letter?
user136984
@Seth: As you mentioned it, what is a "cheese bath"...?
I don't know exactly, I assumed it was some kind of bath with cheese.. (eww)
user136984
@Seth: What kind of cheese? And how would you make sure that it was always in a liquid state? What if you got in the bath while it was still liquid and then it set and you couldn't get out...?
I have nooo idea.
reminded me of this:
@HeatherBrown snappy has a desktop?
user139252
15:19
Not officially.
user136984
@Mateo: I am unable to view that video, nor the page for some reason... I just get an error... Does that video exist on YouTube or something too because a cheese duel does sound interesting...? :D
user139252
If you work at it right, you can get the basic Raspbian version of LXDE on there
user139252
That's probably why things aren't really working right.
user139252
I'm going to try flashing the RasPi version of Ubuntu Mate on there.
@ParanoidPanda probably not... all their vids are private on that channel: youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3D2CA86705235827
user136984
15:23
@Mateo: What's the point of uploading a video and then setting it as a private one?
so, chrome or risk it with flash
@ParanoidPanda ¯_(ツ)_/¯
user136984
@Mateo: Why would that make a difference to whether they are private or not?
user136984
Or were you not talking to me...?
user136984
:D
anyone here know enough about Apache and SSL cert config to give me insight on something?
15:25
@ParanoidPanda ment with the vids on their regular site...
i'm curious whether I need the file in SSLCertificateFile to have the entire trust chain or just the site's cert, if I also provide SSLCertificateChainFile with the trust chain
user136984
@Mateo: Oh... Right.

Q: What is wrong with migrating a question to another site?

Paranoid PandaI understand that a lot of moderators on this site are against migrating questions to other SE sites (except for AU Meta, but that is part of AU, so don't really count), and I was just wondering why this was? Why is it better to close a question rather than to migrate it to a more relevant site?

You should really flag it.
...though I see it's been deleted already.
user136984
@NathanOsman: I was going to, but then I saw Seth here and thought instead to just tell him as that would be faster.
@Seth Which thing? Need help?
@Fabby You can try :)
I have a desktop computer I use as a kind of serve.r
Which OS?
It's wireless with a realtek card. I edited the interfaces file to give it a static IP today and now it has no internet connectivity.
I can connect it manually but can't get anything in the interfaces file to work automatically.
(I went back to DHCP because I found I could issue it a static IP from my router itself)
Wish I had known that in the beginning..
@Fabby Ubuntu 14.04
17:40
Ah: actually, thet's the right way to do it: reserve the IP with the MAC address...
The static IP must be chosen outside of the DHCP range...
yep, as I've learned the hard way D:
But now, you'll never forget!
nope lol
user139252
That's why my Pis lost connectivity after static IP!
@Seth OK, then I'l continue doing what I do best: NOTING! ;-) (as you don't need any help any more)
user139252
17:41
I kept putting them at the top end of the DHCP range, but not outside of it.
user139252
They would be accessible through LAN, but no internet
@HeatherBrown We've all made that mistake once upon a time...
(though with me it's so far back in time it might as well never have happened) :D
user139252
I'm not allowed access to the AP admin panel at work, so I can't just do it through the router like I do at home.
@Fabby well it's still not working, but you don't have to help ;)
user139252
So, I would achieve this by setting an "id_str" value in wpa_supplicant.conf, then adding a static route in my /etc/interfaces file for the corresponding "id_str" value, correct?
17:44
@HeatherBrown Raise a ticket, buy a six-pack of beer and stick the ticket number on it and drop the beer off at the right desk.
@Seth So what's the problem then?
user139252
The right desk is a 2.5hr drive D=
Shall we get a room?
user139252
Charter school with several locations across the state means off-site IT.
@HeatherBrown make it some really nice beer, FedEx it and tell him/her/it to only take one beer and that you've got 5 more favours left...
@Fabby If you want. I don't think it should be too complicated.
@Fabby I can manually connect with wpa_supplicant, but no matter what I put in my interfaces file it won't take automatically.
18:26
\o
18:42
Oh @Seth - set a static IP but didn't update your routing table...
Can you elaborate?
If you just set a new ip and don't set a default route, you're going to have no connectivity too.
ah, and you set a default route how?
I set the gateway, if that's what you mean.
GW would be the same as default route Here, I gave it a quick scan and it looks pretty reasonable cyberciti.biz/tips/…
I'll take a look, see if it helps. Thanks.
18:46
Generally, when you're troubleshooting network stuff the steps are "Is the interface up, can I hit the next hop, can I hit the gateway, can I ping a google dns server, can I resolve a hostname, can I hit a page in a browser". At least those are my steps.
right, but so far I cannot get the interface to come up on its own, I have to manually bring it up, which is a no no for a server.
Oh, you got that laptop and it has the funny realtek wireless card?
No, this is the old desktop server.
I had it working just this morning, than tried to edit the config a bit and then boom..
Going back to what I had didn't fix it either.
Take a look at that article. It's decent on setting up static network configuration. It should make sure you don't miss anything until you can get it to come up on its own.
19:02
ok, I give up. I'm reinstalling :/
Sorry.

@Mateo - someone should pin that
Sounds cool, and a community thing too
user136984
I looked at the debsums tool, and in its manpage it says that it only checks the MD5sums, as MD5sums should no longer be used to check if a file has been tampered with or not, this seems silly, and yet I am not sure that it is the fault of debsums, or whether it is the fault of dpkg or some standards or something... As that area which the MD5sums debsums checks in does not have any other form of hashsum in it.
user136984
So I was wondering who I would contact to complain about this? Because really this is a security risk, especially, if it's not just debsums, and in fact this affects anything wanting to check the integrity of an installed file.
Well, the date on stuff gets touched, so...
19:49
I've had that discussion more than once. One view is "a freak collision could happen, but to have a usable and malicious collision would be near impossible" (I'm on that side) the other side is "We can't risk it". I wouldn't let something like that rustle my jimmies.
