I just coughed while drinking water, and sprayed water all over my keyboad and monitor...
Can anyone answer my hybrid image question?
I guess that's one of the disadvantages of drinking from bottles. (I'd have sprayed the water inside the cup if I were drinking from a glass)
थिस् इस् थे फ़िनल् रोउन्द् ओफ़् पोकेमोन् डुनिब्द्&पेअर्ल् :(
@AmithKK What font or typeface did you use. All I see is squares which so easily used to appear on Windows.
phew IBUS crashed
@Oxwivi I see squares too
BUG!
what i means:
Was that Gujarati?

Shouldn't the USBs with content form hybrid images require boot flag?
Oh apparently it was Hindi.
Its the last season of Pokemon Diamond&Pearl :(
@OctavianDamiean yes
थिस् इस् थे फ़िनल् रोउन्द् ओफ़् पोकेमोन् डुनिब्द्पेअर्ल्
Works fine for me.
... Pokemon... so it's still popular somewhere...
@OctavianDamiean Now it does :LOL
11:22
@OctavianDamiean I see it too. Sadly I don't read Hindi.
@OctavianDamiean NOW its SQUARES!
Interesting. Once you edit it, it get converted to squares.
@OctavianDamiean Hmm
Wow that is sick.
@Balpha There is a bug in SE chat, after you edit anything hindi
11:23
SE chat bug.
Anyway, someone anyone know the answer to my hybrid image question?
@AmithKK summarise what's happened in the ping message, so that balpha doesn't have to read all of the other messages
@StefanoPalazzo Done :)
I lost edit time
@StefanoPalazzo Hmm, is there anyway to handle infinite redirects in the web in python
in a client? yes sure
11:27
Hybrid image, USB, boot flag?
@Oxwivi I dont know
:)
@AmithKK It wasn't directed specifically at you.
I give up anyway, looks like I need to post a question on AU.
in your http client, submit a list of previous redirects for redirect handling, and if it's an even number with len(S) <= 2 (s = set(redirects)) you haven an infinite loop. Say after the list is longer than 20 iterms or something
@StefanoPalazzo Hmm thanks!
jrg
jrg
Yay for infinite redirect loops! :)
11:30
I seem to remember that the ITF consider 5 redirects to be the lower bound for what's considered an infinite redirect
@jrg Hi :)
@StefanoPalazzo What is an ITF :?
@StefanoPalazzo I think you'll like my next hobby project that I'll do with Python.
the internet task force
what is it? :D
Prime number analysis.

@StefanoPalazzo YU DELETE MESSAGE?
Basically I want to display the pattern of the deltas in between each prime for starters.
I remember that this is a very interesting pattern that's not understood well
Yea.
Primes are my new hobby. :D

Q: Do USBs with hybrid images content require boot flag?

OxwiviI want use hybrid image to create an USB Ubuntu installer. All I know at this point is that I need to paste the contents of the ISO directly into the USB's partition, but will it work without boot flag?

I seem to have deleted my primes.py file :-(
(just miller-rabin in there)
Don't worry. We'll create a new one. :D
argh I'm going crazy
I think you are pretty much the only person that understands me. Everyone else I told that primes are my new hobby just slowly went one step backwards and said Okey, listen I gotta do some stuff. :(
typing the word crazy, it takes 2 seconds before all the letters appear
11:39
@OctavianDamiean Well, no one would want to listen about numbers unless they're really interested in it.
@OctavianDamiean True :)
@OctavianDamiean they're the ones missing out
@OctavianDamiean @StefanoPalazzo Why don't you two make your own prime room? :D
you want to get rid of us? :)
11:41
Stefano I'll host your victory chat soon-ish on my vServer .:D
We'll have a prime room there. :D
@StefanoPalazzo Well, it will prevent this room being taken over, and if anyone is interested, it will be opt-in. XD
amith, please don't create superfluous rooms
@StefanoPalazzo Superflous?
I have to go for a bit, laters
jrg
jrg
I don't mind the prime number stuff. It's interesting.
11:44
As for me I don't understand them, so it's boring.
jrg
jrg
I don't understand it, but it's still interesting.
Primarily because i don't understand it, so I learn something.
we've talked more about talking about prime numbers than we have talked about prime numbers :)
@jrg Ok, i'll play along :P
@jrg If you can understand what they're talking about, great.
11:51
Is it that easy to confuse the heck out of people? You just have to mention prime numbers and everyone is puzzled.
@OctavianDamiean Yes, It gives us all CON status
jrg
jrg
@OctavianDamiean not that easy.
You have to talk about .deb creation or something like that to completely confuse me. :D
Deb packaging is easier - at least we know it requires terminal commands. XD
I need to figure something out, ...
my computer is unusably slow ever since I installed 11.10. I tried unity2d, that's even worse. any ideas? :\
oh, I didn't notice that before: ubuntu-one uses lots of cpu
12:09

Q: How do I remove the battery icon from top bar?

Profete162I just discovered Ubuntu a few days ago and now upgraded to 11.10. For the battery, I don't need it at all. I have no reason to give and does not want people to tell me "that's usefull", I think we should be able to remove it easily. Thank a lot for your help.

So, to just hide the battery icon I have to remove it?
that's how indicators seem to work, ya
It no look sexy, so I just want to hide it when charged. I suppose that's a future feature? Or you just can't hide indicators?
2
@MarcoCeppi you can, go to the power manager and select only while charging
I can't find that option in 11.10 - I used it previously. I think that interface may have been done away with
Blame GTK3
its there in xfce!
12:12
Have you checked out gconf-editor?
I don't blame anyone
Maybe you can find that option there.
I wouldn't know the first place to look. It's a purely cosmetic thing, so I'll live with it for now. I need to pack and get out of here
2
@MarcoCeppi YU Moving again?
No, taking a trip
12:15
Nice. Enjoy your trip. :)
@MarcoCeppi We'll have loads of flagged posts waiting for you, so enjoy while you can. :D

A: How do I install the Lubuntu Software Center?

jrgYou can install it via the following: First, add the PPA. The exact instructions are here, the PPA you need to add is this: ppa:lubuntu-desktop/ppa Then, you need to update your package list: sudo apt-get update Then, you'll need to install the lubuntu software center: sudo apt-get install ...

@MarcoCeppi if there's no option to hide it, maybe it's a gnome 3 thing (future feature).
@MarcoCeppi but you can also write the icon theme author that his power manager icons suck. :P
@StefanoPalazzo I can haz source for VC2?
You'll have to wait until I make a release. Last time around, I got loads of support requests. I want to avoid it this time
jrg
jrg
@AmithKK relax, he'll release it when it's ready, not before. :P
and it's more complicated, with couchdb and everything. so I want to be sure it will run before I frustrate people by giving them code that doesn't work like they expect
jrg
jrg
12:25
:O couchdb?! Hm, going to have to find somewhere to host that...
couchdb is absolutely fantastic
just close support request as 'Opinion' >:)
@jrg Doesent that mean heroku no liek
Oh so I'm not supposed to host and develop based on the current Github VC version?
I should probably wait?
@OctavianDamiean yes indeed
there's still a copyright issue as well :\
one of the modules is licensed under some weird permissive license that isn't gpl compatible, and I think I might have annoyed the author by questioning the quality of their code on stackoverflow
not the smartest thing I've ever done :D
12:33
:O
Link or it didn't happen. :D
@StefanoPalazzo Is it DBAD or WTFPL?
@StefanoPalazzo Link or me no believe!
@Oxwivi what?
Those are the only weird licenses I can think of.
I don't know what those are
12:35
WTFPL is GPL compatible.
2
1
A: openID in wsgi with Python 3

Stefano PalazzoTwo caveats on this answer right away: I've you're well versed in your framework, urllib and it's friends, implementing this will still take a bit of time. It's not trivial. The openid2rp code doesn't look all that, uhm, ready. None the less. The latest version of openid2rp can be translated ...

It is only weird because of its name.
hah
no it's a real license
The WTFPL is a real license!
12:37
So is DBAD!
(and I like DBAD more than WTFPL)
I only know so much about copyright, but I'm pretty certain that these are not legal documents. At all. :-)
jrg
jrg
@AmithKK Possibly.
@jrg cant you just host it on your server? :)
@StefanoPalazzo I see. So what will VC2 be based on? I mean what is the big requirements change?
let's see,
uhm I can't find the code now
12:43
@StefanoPalazzo Well, DBAD might be vague, but WTFPL is quite proper. It's like giving a legal permission to relicense and do whatever TF you want.
python3.2 (3.1 won't work), Markdown, Mako Templates, CherryPy >= 3.0, this openid2rp thing, couchdb with some configuration,
and preferably nginx as a reverse-proxy, though that's not required, I didn't test it properly without nginx
Alrighty.
nginx sounds good.
So does couchdb
in short, it doesn't just work on your existing stack, you will probably have to set up a completely new VPS (or whatever)
so I have to figure out how to configure reverse-proxying for all sorts of web-servers before I make a release
a .deb would be oh so sweet (that would only work on >= Natty)
Oh boy. I'd totally want to make love to you if you'd provide a .deb for that.
2
12:46
@StefanoPalazzo did you ask @TheEvilOne
@OctavianDamiean Double meaning
ditto
(not a picture of me ↑)
Wow that was weird. If someone flags one of my posts I get the flag. :D
I'm not sure if it is supposed to work like that.
12:54
By the way, any of you messed with your ARM tablets with Ubuntu ARM?
I'm interested if it will run on ASUS Transformer.
@Oxwivi raises hand
That'd be pretty awesome since I have a Transformer.
Ubuntu wiki has instructions for Toshiba AC100.
Which also runs on Tegra SoC.
@AmithKK So what exactly did you do?
@Oxwivi to run ubuntu arm on chroot
@AmithKK I wasn't exactly looking for that...
13:01
@Oxwivi This sounds interesting but also so dangerous that I'd rather not try.
@OctavianDamiean Yeah, if we only had the official instructions just like the one for AC100.
Just for the reference: wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM/TEGRA/AC100
In theory I don't know why it should not work.
It is the same processor.
Yeah, but we need to be wary of other driver issues.
WiFi, touch, etc.
Pre-11.10 Transformer hacks did not have the dock touchpad working.
And another thing that's bugging me is that the nvflash thing is coming form Toshiba forums (for the AC100), there might be model-specific things.
Yea.
I'll wait for my update to Ice-Cream Sandwich.
And I will wait for someone to write instructions for Transformer on Ubuntu Wiki. :)

what is different on the server version on 11.04 11.10 and 10.04?
@Alvar Newer stuff?
There's also ARM support and OpenStack things.
@Oxwivi but the server for 10.04 is supported for a LONG time
I'll just make a question of it....
@Alvar Yes, they are very stable old applications. More likely to not crash than the new technology in normal releases.

Q: What is different on the server versions of 11.10 and 10.04?

AlvarI was wondering if it's worth to upgrade to 11.10 if I have 10.04 as a server. What do I notice as different if I have a server? (not the GUI as for the desktop) Is there a list of stuff that is new/improved for the server releases?

14:37
argh I went to flag a comment and clicked upvote instead :/
@RolandTaylor Quite the jerky hands, you got.
lol not really :D
Well, the flag and upvote buttons look relatively far to me, so...
its because they are so close, and my mouse is on a rough surface
@RolandTaylor Excuses!

@MarcoCeppi glad you're voice is in on that issue... as in that you wish you could hide indicators. I do too :)... but it's me wishing so it makes no difference :P...
The problem I have is, Faenza doesn't have a good battery icon for darker and darkest. I don't mind it being there since it's my netbook, I just need to find a suitable icon replacement
Oh I see. Try using the one from Ubuntu-Mono-Dark.
You better step your game up on that C++.

@Takkat Feeds or AU?
AU - Feeds I keep away from because of so limited time to do all that reading ;P

Luckily, I learned to read only those that has interesting titles, then mark the rest of them read.

woah wtf, i suddenly jumped up 100 reputation and my rep page doesn't say why
the only thing i can think of is because i signed up for another stackexchange site now that i have 200 rep?
Did you earn a bounty?
@Takkat ... you seem to have a lot of interests...

uploads....
@Oxwivi direct link. - lts.cr/4-v
Can't install via software center since I didn't sign it with a PGP key thingamajigger.
so, sudo dpkg -i ./Downloads/shoes_3.0.9-0-test5.deb should install it.
Doesn't matter. 10 min ETA.
jrg
jrg
Ok.
17:02
@jrg Have you tried pbuilder?
It was created for that very purpose.
jrg
jrg
Haven't looked into it extensively.
Mainly, can I run a X application from the chroot?
The only thing I package is shoes, and that needs X.
pbuilder creates a chroot environment for building packages.
It basically builds the file in the chroot to ensure that the correct build dependencies are there.
jrg
jrg
OK, how do I test the package on a "clean install"?
You shouldn't have to.
You did use the debhelper tools for the packaging, right?
jrg
jrg
packaging ruby stuff doesn't work like that.
Well, it can, but it's a PITA.
17:06
Well, there's still on trick left.
jrg
jrg
The thing about ruby stuff is it's horrible to get packaged properly, so the only "safe and proper way" to do it is via dpkg-deb --build <dir-name> shudders
(I used to package StackApplet that way.)
Anyway... this is a binary, right?
jrg
jrg
Binary that has a collection of custom libraries.
So for each binary file, run it through the ldd command.
That will print a list of all shared library dependencies.
@jrg Installed, whaddo I need to do?
jrg
jrg
17:08
interesting, didn't know about that trick.
Then you can use dpkg -S to find the package that provides the library.
jrg
jrg
@Oxwivi in a terminal (or alt-f2), run /opt/shoes/shoes
' shoes depends on ruby1.9.1; however:
Package ruby1.9.1 is not installed.
shoes depends on rubygems; however:
Package rubygems is not installed.
'
jrg
jrg
You can safely ignore that.
@GeorgeEdison :O fancy.
/opt/shoes/shoes-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.1.0.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
17:10
@Oxwivi Aha! That's where ldd comes in handy.
Then run: dpkg -S libssl.so.1.0.0 to find the package to add as a dependency.
jrg
jrg
@Oxwivi..... it packaged it's own version of libssl....
jrg
jrg
at least it should have....
@Oxwivi ok, thanks for telling me that.
@GeorgeEdison Is that fine? @jrg
Ah.
Ah.
Sorry my connection lags, so it takes a while to know what's going on.
jrg
jrg
No worries.
Ok, thanks for your help.
You can now safely remove it with sudo dpkg -r shoes
Again, thanks for the help, exposed a dependency error I wasn't aware of.
17:15

Q: 3D not working anymore on 11.10 with intel drivers

Jelle SmedtsI updated my perfectly running laptop from 11.04 to 11.10. after the upgrade graphics started to act weird. It was a heavily modified system, so I thought that was probably the issue.. so I reinstalled. I'm using the xorg-edgers ppa for updates. Unity 3D does not work... I hear ubuntu's jungle so...

this was the question . i did that and now it's worse
i need to un do those commands in the answer, at least to log in
How useless can g++ get:
