But how does CCSM then distinguish between the first and second window? and what if a third window is open?
Sounds not really safe... I definitely have to try
Yes!
:-( that I already deleted both script and shortcut...
Anyway, try the following in CCSM:
animations - minimise animation - effect magic lamp - (type=Normal | Dialog | ModalDialog | Unknown)
and then to the same for restore...
it'l look like your window is sucked into a black hole....
(and the black hole is the launcher icon!)
Cool and intuitive...
You know my nVidifu## g-card is fried and animations are already slow by now?
11:04
Oh, no I didn't...
Stay away from CCSM except for windows placement then...
You did know that.
Hey, I forgot...
Sorry! :-(
You sugested me to disable it in BIOS, remember?
No I don't remember telling it to you specifically....
No need to be sorry. Happens...
11:05
I remember telling it to lots of people...
:/
I was one of them
Now I'lll remember for the next day or so....
:P
But the phoenix BIOS did not have an option like that.
You remember searching for the non-existing MaxData service manual?
so I probably told you to yank the card out then....
yes!
THAT I remember!
:)
@hbdgaf I think you should edit your meta question and describe your idea of the key words collecting in more detail than just linking to an old chat post. Should attract more votes then
11:20
@Fabby I tested it!
FAIL
And?
Happy with the results?
No result. I closed both terminals after setting the roles,
and then reopened them with the script
but they still got placed both into the lower right corner, one above each other
Screenshot of the settings:
It's mostly in English...
Did I do something wrong? Or is it just not working?
take 100 100 and 200 200 and remove "keep in workarea"
OK. Wait...
Ping me...
@Fabby Can't remove the workarea tick. It immediately respawns!
starting CCSM
Btw default values were about -32000 for both x and y
yeah...
normal.
@Fabby Just checked: There is a new window role assigned at every window!
Just as I expected. Dynamically (at least for multiple instances)
11:32
Then you'll have to set a window title,
use gnome-terminal --save-config=FILE
Set a window title in terminal Profiles and reference this?
and to start the terminal,
yes
But this works better with GUI menu, I think...
use gnome-terminal --load-config=FILE
@ByteCommander I don't understand...
?? Never used a config file...
11:34
It's just your font, title, ....
that gets saved....
[Edit]>[Profiles...] in gnome-terminal window menu
Terminal menu
set title
There I created the profiles with the different window sizes and will set the title to "BigTerminal" and "SmallTerminal". Wrong?
Because I need the profiles for window size anyway
OK...
Can I tell CCSM to only check the first word of the title?
11:38
not that I know of...
So that the title can start with "Big" or "Small" and then append the normal window title?
However, I've just been called by school: one of the teachers is ill and I have to replace him...
just look for the full window title
use grab.
I have to go right now... (sorry!)
Because otherwise I would have to replace the title and would not see the prompt in title
grab?
okay, go ahead.
there's a "grab" button
when you press the green +
Yeah, I'm using that.
Thanks.
Bye! Have fun...
11:40
Well, then you won't need partial titles...
:( thanks!
Replacing someone is never fun....
What grade?
And there he is gone.
Oh, I found something! No Compiz needed at all!
Just that you see it later in your Inbox:

A: Open terminal on start in a specific place and size

NealThe command is: gnome-terminal --geometry=widthxheight+Xposition+Yposition Add it under System -> Preferences ->Startup applications.

@Fabby There is a Q&A on SuperUser that solves the terminal window placing problem! Just another parameter behind the gnome-terminal command:
I will add that to my script and test!
of course without executing at startup...

Im trying to look through the wget source code for things related to the addition of a superifous robots.txt when mirroring. cat * | grep mirror\|robots
which work in that it shows me the lines with that in source. Alas, I would like to know the files that mirror or robots occurs in. How can this be done?
I dont know why, but i cant edit or respond to my last post.
anyhow, I got it, grep has a recursive option with -r
which also shows the filenames
12:15
@j0h You can only edit or delete you posts in chat for about 3 minutes after you created them. And you can only reference/answer other people's posts. That are the rules, no matter whether we like it or not...

Q: Is there anyway to auto turn-on ubuntu?

sidoLike a command line or a small piece of software I know that there are many ways to auto-shutdown but I'm concerning about auto-turn-on.

13:11
@ByteCommander 5 minutes :-)
and the best way to edit past that; remove the comment and make a new one with what you wanted to add :D
But you can only remove it within a time limit too, I thought, at least in chat!
And there will stay that Removed placeholder...
13:30
on AU you can get a hat in January for removing old comments :-)
@Rinzwind What?
Sadly, there's no possible way I could win :(
@ByteCommander in december we get "hats". 1 of the hats is deleting x amount of comments from "last year" after Jan 1st and before Jan {something}th
What are hats? Something like badges? A link would be nice...
13:40
WHat? More hats? ooo
@ByteCommander They aren't around any more for this year :(
Hehehe
My biggest accomplishment this year: Be ahead of @Seth & at #1 at some point during Winter Bash
I was also featured on one of the official blog posts. Pretty rad.
still have no idea what you guys are talking about... You know I joined on 12th Jan this year?
:D
@ByteCommander: Winter Bash
@ByteCommander you will understand it in december :=D
@RPiAwesomeness I always have to grin when you ping me and a popup with your goatee appears on my screen ;D
@ByteCommander ;)
13:45
And there was it again... ;D
@ByteCommander :D
Now I CAN SPAM YOU!! MAUAHA!
:D
The link was useful, now I understand.
And don't make me to have to disable desktop notifications.
Are there things like spring bash or summer bash too? Like searching easter eggs in April? ;D
14:07
Nope
But I dare you to open a topic on SO meta about this >:-D
Or suggest to change the badges to hats. Hats are far more cooler than badges. Even in the summer when it is ill advised to wear a hat.
watch the hate drop on DVs @Rinzwind
LOL
I give it 2 minutes for a -100 :D
no much slower than my -20 in 3 hours
Are hats really that unappreciated? I never experienced them as I joined to late, but I would like them, I think...
Theres huge hat hate
14:10
au contrare
people LOVE hats

@Rinzwind Is this a real issue?
I see stupid star spam is back!

This can not be true:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/586880/laptop-content-wiped
@Takkat no thanks :-D
There is only one reason for data loss: being too lazy for backups.
"Making backups is for amateurs. Being able to restore backups makes you a professional."
(c) Google on their cloud instance page

@JourneymanGeek now you assume down and upvoters on SO are people.
14:15
o.k. if there was a fire that burned your house to ashes and you had stored the backups in the desk next to your computer you cant restore much (but this aint your major issue by then).
@Rinzwind Flagged as OT.
@Takkat does this seem fishy? askubuntu.com/questions/250290/… User question and has deleted his own anwser that is community and make a new one that is almost identical.
where the other one?
Ugh. Why is that starring a thing? It is legitimately annoying. We seriously need to have a way to negative star something :P
@Rinzwind Buzz may have made it CW by accident - found out it makes more rep if not...
14:22
@RPiAwesomeness or you could not look at it :-)

Q: Server setup and configuration

siskoI am tasked with the process of installing and configuring a LAMP server from scratch for hosting Drupal sites. I have installed the LAMP stack but I'm experiencing multi-user editing problems. Users are not permitted to write into files/directories created by someone else as the following mess...

@Rinzwind Yeah, but I don't want to see a side bar with a bunch of single star crap :P
84 users only have Outspoken... even crap stars count for that.
I got that May 2011.
Awarded jan 6 '14 at 3:11
14:30
it took me 6 months to get that
@Rinzwind not an unusual assumption to make.
@Fabby Something for your FAT32/NTFS discussion: comments to this Q He says that your info about FAT32 is wrong (volume limit of 2TB instead of 127GB).
@ByteCommander windows does not let you format fat32 with more then 32Gb
512GB
and the 127Gb is a limit for IDE
14:40
no it isnt
nvm its ntfs on IDE
Hey, I am referring to Fabby's spreadsheet. It's his assumption.
@Virusboy you need lba48 for fat32 to be able to pass 137Gb -but- they have a software block in their formatting tool. You need 3rd party formatting tool for it ;-)
oh ok
yeah I am oldskool
I remmeber when 4 GB was the liimit
14:46
FAT 16 probably?
I remember we not having computer memory at all :-)
Back in my day...
or a hardisk
just a 5 1/4
14:46
yeah
or a tape deck
Having TWO 5 1/4s in 1 system and you where The Man.
In our "museum" (ie. room where we dump old stuff) I have this...
having 2 3 1/2 once made you God
hmmm
cant find an image but this one matches the most
Grr. Stupid porn blocker I installed won't let me search google images. Now I gotta figure out how to allow that :P
Of all the pages to block...why on earth are you blocking a search for a Koeniggsegg Agera One:1...
14:51
I have an old 80386 SX with Win 3.11 that is still working ;D So that is MY personal museum...
@Rinzwind You are referring to things like delay store? I read about that
I had an old 286 Laptop Laughs hard
@ByteCommander My dad has an old Compaq with I think Windows 1.01 or something on it - hard drive's dead though :P
It still boots from a floppy & runs fine though.
Not enough RAM on the machine to actually do anything since it has to load everything from the floppy
I'd love to hack it and get it working :)
It's got one of those awesome old mechanical laptop keyboards :D
clicka-clicka-clicka
when 64 KB of RAM was something to smile about
loooooooooooool
So this porn blocker I installed was blocking it's own page
facepalm
I think this thing is a bit over-zealous
thats not a pron blocker thats malware son

ummm how does that work in RL
My family had a different approach when I was still at home at about age 22; they said, "No workee, no eatee." I only missed two meals until i got a job.
15:27
loooool
@chili555 :D
Nothing motivates like pain.
I might actually be getting a job this summer. Should be interesting and give me some extra moolah for doing stuff on my channel/hacking Raspberry Pi stuff/saving for college. So that'll be nice.
im at my job now
appropriately we're the desk that handles all overflow

Anyone that knows why 64 bit guests are missing from Virtual Box?
From what I read, there should be a BIOS option... but I couldn't find it...

Q: Do we support Ubuntu Mate?

Elder GeekI saw this question GTK disappears while in sudo mode which appeared to be about a derivative Ubuntu relase. Do we support derivatives of Ubuntu? Or have I misidentified the question?

@IonicăBizău I can run guest additions on a 64 bit guest OS no problemo
In other news: WHY THE FRICK ARE FRENCH PLURALS SO DANG HARD FOR ME??!!? O.o
good gravy that lesson was horrid
And the whole word gender thing is dreadful. French doesn't even have a normal system for it :P
Oh soup? Meh, that's female.
This other thing? I think we'll make it female too.
And this thing, well, that's definitely a male.
Bargh
17:30
Hey guys!
French isnt that hard
Well its alot harder then english
Yeah. I was just having a bad day in French :P
Do you need help with it haha
Nah, I just was failing :P
Allrighty then
Anyone know any music that resembles to Coyote Kisses and Glitch Mob
;) Thanks anyways :)
17:33
no problem :)
@AlexClem Never listened to Coyote Kisses, but a band similar to Glitch mob ... hrmm.
I know I've heard one somewhere.
Approaching Nirvana might have some similar - though they don't usually do remixes, more instrumental stuff they wrote.
Check out Monstercat as well - they've got a bunch of artists under their label
If you like Techno, I found an artist by the name of DJVI. He's pretty small, but he's got a few good songs :D
Ill check it out
You check out coyote kisses
Actually Ill get some Wolfgang Gartner
Fair enough
Dubstep?
more like Drum & Bass I guess
Whoa! Avatar change!
:D
Boo. I liked the monster dood
17:39
He didnt appear on my screen
:(
Ill change it back
What browser?
chrome
Try pressing Ctrl+F5
@RPiAwesomeness Me too, but only on my laptop. I have an older machine (a Pentium IV), running a 64 bit os, but it doesn't support 64 bit guests...
It'll full-reload the page, at least it does so in Firefox
@IonicăBizău Hmm.
Strange
17:43
From what I read on some websites, I have to enable "amd virtualization" in BIOS... But I cannot find such an option...
@IonicăBizău Erm... Your old CPU might not have AMD's virtualization thingy
@IonicăBizău It's an Intel CPU?
Yes, it's an intel dual-core CPU..
Yeah. You wouldn't have AMD virtualization in your BIOS since it's an Intel CPU
Ah, wait: Pentium (R) Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50GHz x 2.
Thanks. I was just gonna ask for that
Can you run egrep ‘(vmx|svm)’ /proc/cpuinfo?

If you see the letters vmx anywhere in the response, you have Intel's virtualization thing - VTx
@AlexClem It can take a while for it to take affect in chat
But site-wise, yes, it did.

Q: How is askubuntu policy on what is offtopic correlated with the general SE policy on creating new Linux SE pages?

cipricusI am interested in the discussions on creating a Stack Exchange area for Elementary OS, a distro which seems offtopic here. An objection to that proposal was that Elementary OS is a Linux distro based on Ubuntu, and therefore covered on the SE network already. If that is the case, as eOS is not ...

@RPiAwesomeness No command 'svm' found, did you mean:...
17:52
Wow, some great discussions on meta today.
@IonicăBizău Did you copy/paste it exactly?
Marco! :D
egrep '(vmx|svm)' /proc/cpuinfo
17:53
@RPiAwesomeness Not really because there was a syntax error.
Whoa! Hey @MarcoCeppi
Long time no see ;)
@IonicăBizău Run the command I just posted
@RPiAwesomeness Didn't output anything...
I lurk on the mainsite a lot, but figured I'd pop in to chat
17:53
@IonicăBizău Then you don't have it.
Sry :(
VT-x simply isn't available on your CPU I guess :(
see what everyone's up to
@MarcoCeppi Might as well lurk here as IRC :P
@Seth yeah, I'm always in IRC, it's too bad there isn't an IRC interface for the chat :\
@RPiAwesomeness So, is it impossible to virtualize 64bit operating systems?
@MarcoCeppi yeah, that would be pretty awesome. Someone was working on one at one point, but the project died :/
17:55
@Seth hah, yeah, years ago
@RPiAwesomeness Gave you some upvotes :) Thanks for help
So something has been somewhat confusing me, maybe you'll know the answer to this Marco, Ubuntu MATE was going to become official with 14.10's release, but now it seems they pushed it off to 15.04? What happened there?
