Thanks, Docker.
03:00
you know what I find funny, any time I attempt to do anything close to gaming Windows heats way up and threatens to explode. Ubuntu on the other hand stays as cool as a cucumber.

@Seth And, that's why I don't want to be on Windows.
Daala is a completely open and uniquely engineered (by Mozilla and Xiph.Org Foundations) video codec that even has its own Javascript implementation.
Looks interesting - wish I could get the Javascript demo working :(
Oh wait!
I finally figured it out. I was using postgres:latest instead of postgres:9.3... and since the fine people over at Docker decided to bump latest to 9.4, I ended up with a DB version mismatch.
And that's why my website went down.
No audio though

your spam is annoying.
Hey. You started it.
i edited it,
Plus, it's dancing stick men.
not posted each message.
:P
The second lesson I learned was not to upgrade an image and then delete the old image before attempting to run the new image.
03:27
Now it looks like some form of obscure, weird regex.
@Seth how is 32x?
I'm gonna be messing with Daala tomorrow morning. G'night chaps.

@Whaaaaaat eh? fine I guess?

@KasiyA What version of iptables are you using? I've never seen sporty behaviour in iptables... :/
I would use ufw and then look at the generated iptables entries... (could you make that a Question and ping me here in the chat with the like to it?)
Ah! Already answered (and using the same system I see) ;-)

Q: update-rc.d squid3 init.d init wierdness

norootsquashsudo service squid3 status works, implying squid is in upstart However a listing of services using sudo service --status-all does not show squid .Neither does sudo update-rc.d squid3 defaults work (gives an error saying update-rc.d: /etc/init.d/squid3: file does not exist) On doing so...

You are not prone to insanity when you have little sleep.
You're just insane... >:)
@Virusboy What is that stalker mode of yours? :P :-)
@Seth That's because your Ubuntu is better maintained... Update your Windows NVidia drivers and stuff'll cool down... ;-)
@NathanOsman Ouch! :(
Figuring out how icons are organized on Ubuntu (or Linux in general) is a nightmare.
PNG, SVG, multiple sizes, multiple themes, etc.
NitroShare now has dark and light mono icons.
@NathanOsman: I put everything in /usr/share/pixmaps and ensure the png file is 512x512 and then let Ubuntu do the work...
08:18
@Fabby: now you can clear your comment too: askubuntu.com/questions/585066/…
<-- likes heavily cross-linking across this site's gems.
Done!
Thanks to you too! ;-)
pleasure
> @ByteCommander please don't edit questions like askubuntu.com/questions/586204/… - there's no benefit and it simply puts them in the reopen queue, wasting the time of seven others.
@ByteCommander: yes... Do you understand whay?
yeah, closed zero voted non-answered questions are worth an edit only in case we want it reopened.
08:20
@muru the Q was not on-hold or marked as off-topic when I did the edit. I knew that it would have been marked, but it was not yet.
@Fabby What? just came in...
I saw Muru's comment too...
working on the notifications in my inbox
(and I agree)
Don't waste your nor anyone else's time an editing a bad question...
If it looks like it's going to be closed, leave it the way it is: bad...
;-)
Would not have been put into any reopen queue if the edit had got approved before they on-holded the Q!
:D
08:22
And whenever I see a Q with severe code formatting problems, I edit this before I really start to read
I wasn't around to approve when that happened....
:D I used to do that too!
Just to make it clearer in your mind...
now I glance over it and if I think: even with editing this cannot be improved, I immediately cast a close vote.
Btw as you are here at the moment - I would appreciate your advice in real-life...
Can you see these?
Girl-friend problems? ;-)
I'm going for a smoke first if it's about RL
I have to write a Chemistry exam in about 1h...
Do you know a good link where to find out about electrochemics?
So galvanic element, electrolysis,
that stuff.
niveau of A-levels
Still there or away at the balcony?
I am prepared of course, but I thought it would be good to read another version of that stuff as well
Man, that stuff was 30 years ago!
08:27
Not that you think I just start now with learning ;-D
(when I started studying Chemistry)
Nah, I wouldn't know...
I thought you might have something as Chemistry expert AND teacher...
The only chemistry I stiss use these days is the FDA database and pubchem...
I teach English and French, remember?
teacher is teacher...
Okay, then sorry for bothering and thanks for your time!
Sorry, man... Can't help you there just by shaking something out of my sleeve...
If you want, I can look things up and have smtg ready for you,
08:29
I will hunt some pages on google then... Hope I don't get one of the bad ones
but that would take me about half an hour....
no, thanks.
OK, otherwise I'll hunt together with you and ping you with every interesting thing I find...
?
No, I should log out then and concentrate on this. Bye until later...
Chüss!
08:31
Otherwise I get distracted whenever the chat page beeps... :D
So bye / Tschüß!
09:15
@ByteCommander: could you downvote this one too? askubuntu.com/a/585420/344926 He'll probably delete his answer once he gets 2 downvotes anyway, so you'll get your points back! ;-)
Hi @Fabby
:) How can I be of service?
Hi @ByteCommander
He's gone...
Is there a way in ubuntu where i can convert apt-get packages into .deb files
Like ia32-libs into a .deb file
I want to install those packages in multiple systems. It will be very useful,if there is any command for this task. So,i will relieve myself from typing sudo apt-get install in each system and waiting 30 mins for download every time.
@Fabby Help me.,,:)
09:26
Yep there is...
give me a minute
this is what you need: packages.ubuntu.com
You can download individual packages from there for all current Ubuntu releases...
@webcoder: Is that what you were looking for???
Yes.Thank you @Fabby. :).It's great!!!.I'm going to download the packages.
Already downloaded packages will also be in /var/cache/apt/archives/ until cleaned.
@webcoder I would appreciate if you made this into a question, then come back notifying me that you did so I can answer it and get some reputation out of helping you...
@Takkat: he's probably deploying multiple systems...
(very probably) ;-)
Ok @fabbby.I thought of this only.
@Fabby with 100% certainty ;P
09:36
@webcoder Just post a question and immediately come back with the link here in the chat-room... ;-)
@NathanOsman: stop hacking my computer and get out of my ~/.config directory!

webcoderHOw to build .deb file from apt-get packages into .deb files like ia32-libs in ubuntu.I want to install those packages in multiple systems. It will be very useful,if there is any command for this task.

@webcoder: thanks. Just accept the answer and I'll edit it from there on...
No need for you do to any further work!
Go deploy 100 computers! ;-)
@webcoder: additional tip in the answer...
@Webcoder: And as you've never accepted an answer on AskUbuntu before: If this answers your question, don't forget to click the grey check-mark under the "0" at the left of this text, which means "yes, this answer is valid"! ;-)
09:53
@Takkat so there is a bit of doubt? >:)
@Rinzwind in case we are 100% sure, honestly, no doubt... there always is something fishy going on ;P
@Rinzwind 6-σ is all we can strive for... @Takkat
@webcoder that's a duplicate of askubuntu.com/questions/974/… as far as solutions go
@Fabby ^^
I'll flag it as a dupe...
The question is asking it differently, so it's not THAT necessary, but the other one has LOTS of detailed answers and already gets traffic

AU is in read mode? :(
I had that also for a few seconds....
until i refreshed the page...
(after copying my comment I was entering)
Still read only!
I was builing website at work, until i noticed Au is read only, now i come here to complain!
:D
all whino's....
But the chat room is not in RO...
11:34
Gotta go do some work! Love my new job! :D
Back from the exam! :-D
@ByteCommander: how did it go?
(btw: AU is in read-only mode)
@Fabby Yep, saw this and was just busy on figuring out why - without success :-(
Oh, and yes, I think the exam went quite well.
I once mixed up anode / cathode and oxidation / reduction, but I noticed it and corrected everything.
Except from that I did not notice any mistakes...
Does not have to mean that there are no ones left, but I have a good feeling. I could answer every Q - so it was better than a day on AU ;-D
And I got my last exam back with 14 points. (15 is best, 0 would be worst - 15P=1+, 14P=1, 13P=1- 12P=2+, 11P=2, 10P=2- etc)
Hmpf, AU still read-only! Anybody knows when it started / how long it probably goes / why that happened?
Feels somehow like this:
Oh, upload function also crashed! Imgur is also down?
11:50
Network issues could be anything.
... or what else?
Huh what's that link about? Apple license? Sure you pasted the right?
damn c & p
the day will come and I will copy & paste my credit card credentials to the Internets
If you write it on a piece of paper, you can't c&p it! Better than saving digitally anyway...
paper is so volatile - it could fly to anywhere.
Then take your swiss knife and scratch it into the lower side of your desk ;D
Oh, and I found some more funny firefox images! (゚ヮ゚)
11:54
AU is back on-line
Yep, just saw the tweet. :-D
So, this was the last. I better stop now before @Fabby gets angry again because I scroll his screen too fast... ;D
AU is off-line again :(
Hey, I am still in read-only!
Oh, it is AGAIN?
I was too busy laughing about FireFoxes...
٩(๏̯๏)۶
Ah, now it is back! Yay... :-) Hope it lasts longer this time.
12:36
;D That guy asks what a toast is (comments): askubuntu.com/q/586470/367990 Funny!
13:22
Forget it, already done :D
13:33
@ByteCommander Excellent Edit :)
@Mitch Thanks! I thought it was impossible to save it other way than completely rewrite it...
A question to the community (because does not fit on AU): Has anybody experiences with VPS (Virtual Private Server)?
I just heard of it and now am thinking about subscribing for a free VPS. Can you recommand some providers? I don't need either that much resources at the moment (fast processing would be nice, but e.g. a few GBs of HDD are enough) nor any advanced networking features. Currently I would just like to run a small Ubuntu on it and let it calculate some time-taking things. It is not too bad if the VPS would need a few days or weeks, I just don't want to have my own laptop running
So can anybody suggest me a good free and trusty VPS provider?
Oh NOOO! StackExchange is down again! I slowly get really angry about that! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻)

@Rinzwind "I checked the box where I copied /var/lib/dpkg from and it's running ubuntu 14.10 whereas this one is running 14.04. Does that matter?" :'(
I echo what @jrg said. Digital Ocean is dirt cheap.
If you need free, AWS offers a one year trial.
There's also Linode, but their cheapest plan is $10/m.
@Fabby The problem with /usr/share/pixmaps is that it doesn't let you customize the icon based on the current theme. For example, Unity, by default, uses the ubuntu-mono-dark theme - which is basically white icons on a dark background.
This doesn't go well with brightly colored icons. On the other hand, the launcher tends to look nicer with colored icons.
What I ended up doing was using different icon names for the indicator and the icon for the application itself. Quite complicated but it works :P
16:45

Modified to do what they want, but Ubuntu
@AlexClem Mac is modified FreeBSD, which is modified UNIX
@AlexClem not really
