I'm seeing various instructions that request that you install something like:
apt-get install lamp-server^
With the oddball caret in the command. This isn't anything I know from bash, and it doesn't seem to be mentioned in apt-get manual. What's the deal ?
I have Ubuntu 14.04 running an SSH server using RSA keys for auth. My original account can SSH into the server no problem. (I use Putty). We'll call it user A. However I just setup user B and user C and added them to the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file as authorized users yet when I try to auth with th...
@Rinzwind Love it. It's either a config that isn't refreshed, the server not having the pub-key, or a client that doesn't support key auth only uname/pwd auth.
@Whaaaaaat So, I printed that sheet off and gave it to my (now old) boss. He realized that this really is all I do, so he started doing that. My life was changed forever, because I could actually get stuff done!
what is "closed as too localized"? can't find any 'localized' term at Help center! or it is related to "too broad"? or it is any moderation tool to close as " too localized"? Because I found question which is closed as "too localized".
Is it renamed with "unclear what you are asking" or included in "off-topic"?
As a newcomer to Ubuntu (version 14.04 LTS) and not being a computer expert I try to connect my printer/scanner Canon Pixma MP630.
I added it in system settings Printer and now I can print from the computer but do not get info e.g. for ink status, and I cannot scan to the computer.

@Rinzwind Oh, I was pretty sure it was note of the people in this chat. I doubt the regulars would be so petty. It just bugs me 'cause that's a good question. She clearly explained what the problem is and what she tried. Not her fault she's not knowledgeable enough to figure it out.\
@Braiam, can you explain the difference between cuál and quién as interrogative words? I think cuál is used for inanimate objects (¿cuáles llaves?) and quién for people (¿quiénes son ellas?).
I would close as unclear. Don't know what software he is talking about, and it isn't clear if he already has it installed and is looking for some kind of tips (???) or needs help installing it.
To my 'slideshow' computer (it, and a big TV screen are located in a public room, ), I use only ssh access. I'd like to disable generally (not X only) all of the USB slots, and the PS2 keyboard/mouse slots as well (to prevent myself from jokes).
Using the configuration file /etc/modprobe.d/blackl...
You can do this with Git's sparse checkout feature. Run the following commands in a repo where you want a special, untracked local.txt file:
git config core.sparsecheckout true

echo '!local.txt' >>.git/info/sparse-checkout
git read-tree --reset -u HEAD

I sometimes get edits to review where the person making the edit has added in some details or sources missing from the original answer (or question, sometimes). But it may be about a subject that I know nothing about, so I have no idea whether the added information is accurate.

Recently our ubuntu root server has been replaced after some failures. Unfortunatelly we cannot confirm if it really has been replaced or just some parts.

On Ubuntu 13.10, when I open a new terminal, I sometimes get the following output on the terminal:

However, the permissions should be fine:
