Is anyone on?
Can anyone help me find a official/minor for Ubuntu studio 11.10 - 7.10?
01:15
I don't think it existed then @Andrew.
I take that back, apparently it did exist.
They do since I can find voodoo download links all over google
@Seth Well I can't find any and I don't want to use those voodoo download links because I can't trust how stable they are, do they limit your download speed.
Thanks
I can't find the rest, top of my head.
again thanks
01:25
np
Well should I use those Voodoo download links?
I don't know. Can you show me?
You know my answer for where Where can I get the lastest version of Ubuntu... I am making that for every flover of Ubuntu.... I
yeah, I meant what voodoo links are you talking about?
Can't give an opinion without seeing the links.
01:32
definitely not 4shared. Oh I hate that site.
Me too.
Is linuxquestions stable enough to use
The download links in your first link are ok, since they lead to cdimage.ubuntu.com, which 404s now ;)
Or adf.ly
I hate that too
@Andrew Some of those look ok.
I think you can generally trust .edu links.
Okay
01:36
but I think it would be better to just say you can't find release x,y,z than point to links you don't know about.
196.12.10.6 ...? Why not a url?
@Seth take a look
Good?
Looks fine
@Andrew URLs just translate to IP addresses anyway.
Thanks
Should I do one for netbook remix, or for Core?
doesn't mean a random IP is trustworthy.
@Andrew netbook remix is long dead.
don't think core is necessary.
So don't do any of that.... how about Sever.
01:47
yep, do server.
Okay
I am only doing this for newbies.
All supported Mythbuntu releases can be found at the releases. 9.10 can be found at the old releases page any version else can be found at this minnor.
Good?
that seems ok
Can you make it better?
what do you mean?
Make it make more sence.
like better grammer.
01:53
don't have time right now.
02:07
@Seth should I even do metalink for oder version that isn't on the realse page?
or should I use zsync?

Q: Is it possible to review/edit questions using VIM?

AkivaI suppose this is more of a question; "Does this extension exist on firefox or chrome". When editing long winded posts; I think it would be faster to do formatting with some of vims functionality. Anyone know of any tools I could utilize?

Did you know there was a sever edition of EDUbuntu?
A server edition?
03:53
Wow.
Didn't know that until I saw it.
@NathanOsman I wounder how it works?
No idea. It probably just ships with different packages on the ISO.
Yea but you need a GUI to teach.
a 6 year old would have no idea how to use a lui.
"Now junior, the 'ls' command prints the contents of the current directory."
"Dad, what's a directory?"
"Uh..."
LOL
I can't stand when people called directories folders.
@NathanOsman do you have the same issure as me?
04:02
Yeah it bugs me too.
On Windows, they are called folders. On Unix/Linux, they are called directories.
No even on Windows they are called directories too... Have you ever hear this command "dir"?
that is basicly the same thing is ls
It is basicly dumb down for people.
Well, technically you are correct, but Microsoft even calls them folders in some of the documentation.
They're very inconsistent.
Why?
It isn't professional when you do that.
Here they call it a folder. Here they call it a directory.
IN MS-DOS they are called DIR.
04:06
I know, it's frustrating sometimes.
When you are programing how do you know what one to use if you are using C++.NET?
@NathanOsman And I can't stand when you right click on the desktop on a emtry space. It has 'Create new folder' or something like that....
Very few people use C++.NET. Most use either C# or C++.
Most people who use C++ uses the QT framework with it.
04:24
powershell aliases ls to dir automatically now ;P
LOL

The FAQ has contained one key bit of advice from the very beginning:

It’s also perfectly fine to ask and answer your own question, as long as you pretend you’re on Jeopardy! — phrase it in the form of a question.

So …

if you have a question that you already know the answer to

if you’d like to document it in public so others (including yourself) can find it later

it is OK to ask, and answer, your own question on a relevant Stack Exchange site.

To be crystal clear, it is not merely OK to ask and answer your own question, it is explicitly encouraged. …

looks fine.

One new way to prevent "victims" of the review audit system from complaining? Don't let them see what they based their (presumable) wrong vote on! ( ;-))

@Mateo he edited one of his link only ones to be good, apparently he didn't flag it though.
oh, so it started as a link only...
yeah
@Seth thx, now I fail to see why that answer was so bad - can you enlighten me?

It looks okay but I know nothing about the topic, so I don't know if it is a valid answer.
well, at least he removed the "mods deleted my answer" part
@Seth, the answer was selected as audit before it was edited - but I got it in its improved form
as far as I can tell, the answer was never edited. I didn't handle the deletion, so I can't give you any public information on what (or why it) happened (yet).
@Seth the new one he edited
It is worth noting though, @guntbert, that the answer is essentially a duplicate of one that already existed on the question. And (I'm sure I've said this before) the audit system isn't smart. I trust you, I don't care how many audits you fail.
I do appreciate is your continued reviewing, despite the audits bothering you.

@Seth, you trust with good reason, and no they don't bother me as much as they used to - this time it was really for a laugh that I posted the screenshot

Q: Yesterday was 23 hours ago

TimThis should possibly be on Stack Exchange. In all the review queues, the times are a bit wrong. I am posting this close enough to 17:00 BST, so 16:00 UTC. So yesterday was 16 hours ago. Should I post on the main meta?
launchpad.net/ubuntu/trusty/+package/python3-transmissionrpc hm, they have a python 3 version, is that the same as what you are importing @hbdgaf
@Mateo Yes
At least I think so. I'll try it out.
@Tim I wouldn't. The response will be "it's not compute cost effective to implement that definition of yesterday"
Tim
Tim
@hbdgaf okay. Just bugs my ocd... ;-)
they don't use midnight at all in the yesterday thought... and refreshes of votes are based on UTC 0. so, it would be a long argument that resolved in "Nope."
21:01
they could change the wording to "A day ago" or something similar, "The other day", so it might be better understood as a literal 24 hours
@Mateo that might work
Tim
Tim
oh yeah, i forgot about others on non UTC... England here so I'm pretty close (+1 BST)

@Seth @Luis From yesterday's discussion about re-tagging: I got a reply via email from the StackExchage mods. Got a nice apology and advice: ask Ubuntu meta!!!
@Bernmeister Great! I knew you'd get a reply, but sometimes it can take time :)
@guntbert Ok, asked around. The guy was a spammer injecting links into answers that looked ok.
@Seth Restored my confidence (and both, as did yourself and @Luis). Did you see the URLs for the posts/answers I found (I posted in the other room)?
So that's why it was deleted.
@Bernmeister Yes I did. Did you want a comment on them?
@Seth thx for taking the trouble
21:23
@Seth Frankly, not quite sure where I should go from here (in terms of re-tagging). Those answers simply restated the problem: re-tagging old posts makes them appear at the top of the front page and that it might annoy some users! One answer/comment was to simply ignore old posts as they'll quickly filter down. Another answer was that StackExchange likely won't implement the feather to stop this from happening.
@Seth So I haven't as yet found a definitive answer to link to in the event I re-tag an old post and someone is annoyed by that.
@Seth feather == feature!
isn't that a mod privilige, doing an edit that doesn't pop it to the front?

Q: Could anything tagged with "installation" not appear on the front page

TimAs you may know, we are trying to remove all of the installation tags. However, when I edit a whole load of posts (even just 4 or 5) it ruins the look of the front page - it is all old posts last modified by Tim: Could we have it so that edits that remove the tag installation don't show on th...

I did suggest it for only installation, but it could cause abuse in some ways...
@Mateo No idea - from reading the questions/answers I found I believe it's default behaviour for StackExchange.
@Tim Ironically I too was re-tagging 'installation' ... but manually :-)
Tim
Tim
well I retag manually too, sort of. I copy seth's data thing output into a text file, then use a python script and an actionaz script to open them for editing.
21:57
Wow, 9000 left
@Bernmeister Honestly, there isn't anything you can link to.
Retagging tons of things at once, even if the tag is deprecated, is something that is just "tolerated" because there is no other way about it.
Especially as a sub 2k user, because people have to review your edits.
My advice if you want to continue is the same as I gave Tim. Target questions with just and try not to do too many at once, or they'll start getting rejected, most likely.
@Seth Yeah, I've come to the same conclusion. Seeing that @Tim is hot on the case, I'm happy to defer to him :-)
