Q: Damaged external NTFS hard disk

ThanosA few days ago, I used my external hard disk (a 2TB Seagate) in order to transfer some files on Windows Vista. During that, I noticed some malfunctions on my system (it was running too slow, Windows Explorer crashed). When Explorer crashed, file transportation stopped. I was afraid, but I tried...

this makes us a windows helpdesk. see the answer added ...

Q: Ubuntu Software Center, Synaptic, Fglrx "manager", Firefox, Chromium CRASH

user63070I installed some updates which I'd had never thought could cause trouble. As long as I can remember, I checked the boxes in the update manager for ati driver, flash (I'm sure the first one must have messed up everything) and some others less important such as language packs, chromium browser, etc...

@Rinzwind that looks english from here
no see the bottom
he did most of it but the error he c/p'd
close needed I guess? -> askubuntu.com/questions/417815/…

And started reading through the question, then spent 10 minutes writing an answer of my own, and never handled the flag.
that is my life too :(
@Seth dupe of what? "How to change the pointer size?" -> "What is a terminal and how do I open and use it?"??????? at best that is too broad
@Braiam first one.
@Braiam He added "SOLVED" to the title, so I suppose it solved his problem ;)
@Seth I seems to recall last discussion with FEichinger that unclear, too broad, bad questions are not dupes, that question has 3 questions in one and none of them related in the slightless
just dupe according to the title. The OP said it solved his problem so.
OP knows about quality? no, op knows nothing... the correct close reason is unclear, we don't want questions like that...
20:57
good grief. Stop making a big deal over nothing. The "correct" reason would be too broad since there are 3 questions in there.
21:09
Ububtu -_-"
^ I hate it when they do that
That's almost as bad as "Ubantu"
The name is displayed in the freaking website! yeeezzz people
This is a good Q for AU: How to download GTA IV in Ubuntu?
Wow @Seth, your avatar?
@blade19899 What about it?
@Seth Nothing. Looks awesome. Just noticed you changed it.
This A source links to an arabic website: askubuntu.com/a/417857/36315
@blade19899 ah ok. Just for the rest of the week or so.
21:18
@Seth Am back at school. Since a week. So haven't had the change to go on AU for a long time
@hbdgaf take a look at this q: stackoverflow.com/questions/15789652/…
@Braiam Good comment :D
Why did he use ?
Fixed
@blade19899 beats me...
21:34
@Mateo that's where i found the snippet
i'm just cleaning it up so it doesn't save a png to disk... instead it parses the binary blob in memory for the resolution of the blob.
hm, I can't get it to get a proper png
i'll see what i can get. i haven't fiddled with it much yet, but it seems horribly relevant.
yeah, some of the stuff from the comments is interesting too
maybe a 12.04 problem if it works there
the code is for old gstreamer and python2. it gives me an idea of what to look in to though.
looks like he started to port some of it
21:49
@Mateo i see. at least if i get it working i know i beat someone working with canonical to it ;)
@hbdgaf nice, that is one way to look at it :)
wasn't meant to be ugly or anything...
22:08
@JourneymanGeek - hit me up when you're around... i have a funny for you
I dropped a comment just in-case he was keeping up on that stuff.
Also, there's a pngenc filter for playbin. just saying...
crap... now i have to git off my haunches and do the git commit to show the awesomeness in the tear-down redesign :(

Q: Show comments before comment form in add/show 3 more comments

Avatar PartoIn questions with more than five comments, the first five are shown and the rest hidden under a 'add/show x more comments'. When you click that link, you are first shown the comment textarea to add your own comment and then you have to click the link again to see the 'x more comments'. Shou...

22:25
@AskUbuntuMeta wut?
@Braiam he's asking if you should have to read ALL comments before making a comment i think
22:58
Seems to make sense, expand - read (or at least see) then comment
:O GET parameters in CSS???

Q: Is it on topic to ask about installing a game on Wine?

FischerI want to install 8ballclub on Wine and I think there's a bug. Can I ask how to install the game here or will it be close as off topic or low quality or too specific? or something? Is it okay to ask it or not?

@hbdgaf I'm awake now, partiallly ;p
@Mateo - check your repo. I'm still having a time getting my fork to sync. Think I'm just going to purge it and start over. I love git but despise github.
23:32
@hbdgaf ah bet it lost sync, I see a commit 6 min ago
I think the said that hard resets broke sync with forks, so probably my fault...
I had a commit in my master that wasn't in your master, and even rebasing on your master made my randomly generated commit appear "newer". Pushing to my github after pulling both, switching to yours, merging in the newest changes, etc broke the universe. It's fine. I'll purge it and operate on a local fork only and push that... dropping my github repo. it doesn't make sense to keep a fork if it's such a pain to revert to someone else's master and say "trust it and just do a bump commit"
"to fix the version numbers"
oh... you purged your git branch and started over? that would do it.
"let's find the only way to make git go out of sync" ;)
yeah, I was trying to rename the .py without it seeming like I created it out of thin air
git add/rm filename
git commit -a
"renamed file"
git push
that was after I tried it on the web version, then forced it back a whole bunch of useless commits ;)
<.< - just don't try to use the web ui

23:40
I think I am going to stop trying to do "simple stuff" on the phone...
on the down-side, i lose my github contributions stats. on the upside, the code is there. might carry a dual synced copy and just not commit upstream if it becomes a continuing problem.
@Mateo what hbdgaf said... D:
can always just purge upstream repo and add alternate as upstream... and call it a day.
@Seth yep, I discover this due to a code-generator result
@Mateo - I'll just do it by myself, and when I need icons, I'll call. I'll rebase to a clean start for me so you lose all your commits too. Seems fair.
23:51
This is what happens when you try to search an entire file as string:
it can be done properly.
