@Amithkk I miss Socket 2. Back in the days when you could hit a pin on the CPU with a hammer and the hammer would come off worse.
And that chart is missing the P2 slot-CPU sockets.
Oh no, they're on the right
@Oli if the i7 had that socket ....well lets just say that our computers would be a lil bit bigger
Oli
Oli
@Amithkk True enough
How is that relevant?
its not.
that's the point :D
13:08
Hum, there appears to be a loophole in the chat...
@RolandTaylor thanks for following me

@Amithkk you're welcome
@MarcoCeppi D:!
Loophole: Closed
That's it! I'm switching to Arch!
13:10
Noooooooo!
in all seriousness though, lighten up!
gosh
That's it! I'm switching to ..umm notices that i cannot compile anything Ubuntu!
Oli
Oli
You don't have to compile anything in Arch... You just helps if you know how a Linux system pieces together so you can configure it.
oh i know that
goes to VmWare
relevant conversations - it's going to be dead silent in here.

I know lets declare a strike against it

That was a joke @Oli

I got a lot of flack for using Ubuntu at a recent tech meetup in DC

@Oli what is Ubuntu?
Oli
Oli
@MarcoCeppi What sort of flack? Flack against Ubuntu? Or you for using it?
Is it a shaving cream?
Oli
Oli
@RolandTaylor Yes.
Its an african word

Ahhh...
its a brand of cola too

and an african word
I don't use Ubuntu...
Oli
Oli
And it's a shaving cream.
doesn't shave
@Oli Both, most of it was centered around curses of "WHY THE .... UNITY!?" and the other half was "LOUEL I USE SLACKWARE"
Oli

Now it's a car.
The Unity was easy to solve. I simply said "Use Classic Desktop you dopes" then sent them to AU

Now it's on a horse.
However, the Slackware dumps required me to dance circles around them in my complete knowledge of Linux Administration
I choose to use Ubuntu because I have enough fun wrestling with servers all day. I want my Desktop to just work

@MarcoCeppi You yourself are going off-topic I know im gonna get kicked for this
Ubuntu: An ancient african word meaning 'I cant configure debian'
13:21
Ubuntu is African word that means "Mac".

@Rinzwind \o

@Rinzwind notice the new rules

@MarcoCeppi indeed sir
@MarcoCeppi thats why i dropped gentoo/slack in leu of Ubuntu two years ago

AchuFor every mountpoint Ubuntu creates .Trash directory when a file is deleted. The 1000 is the UID of the user that created the bin, so every user can have its own. Is it necessary to keep this folder ? I think it is your choose. It just a bin folder, If you need a bin folder for your mount...

i can see
13:28
@lazyPower I'm just glad I was able to get out of the MAC ONLY job :)
Marco will have one person who he can never moderate:

@MarcoCeppi I'd rather run mac than windows, but meh. .Net is paying my check and keeping me fat, so i wont complain too loudly ;)

I have
but still...
I would love to only have the dock and the graphite window borders! :)
@Rinzwind still not working... :(
@Rinzwind where did he get the command/ install script? in the video?
does this help: maketecheasier.com/turn-your-ubuntu-hardy-to-mac-osx-leopard/… ? the dock is alot of work it seems >:D
in this video it's only one script
@Rinzwind that one didn't work :(

@Amithkk the noise of fans makes me crazy. That's why I went for a <50W CPU

@htorque a second one?
no a replacement for the one i returned :P

Oli
Oli
@htorque Oh sorry I missed that bit. Yeah that's no good.
15:54
i looked for different brands but all suffer from that more or less - you either get one that's fine or not, so i decided to get the same one again as apart from that problem the dell is a bargain
Oli
Oli
In my last batch of monitors, I bought one and it had a slight fading in a bottom corner (not really an issue but I wanted to have it replaced under warranty in case it got worse). Fedex came out with a new one. I asked them if they wanted to take the old one and they told me to keep it. And that's the story of how I was converted to dual-monitors.

they should put everything that needs cooling on-die
that'd be nice! Why is a CPU eating 130W - that's mad!

@FlackBot: restart
@htorque That's a nice command, but I really don't know what it is.
BogoMips (from "bogus" and MIPS) is an unscientific measurement of CPU speed made by the Linux kernel when it boots, to calibrate an internal busy-loop. An oft-quoted definition of the term is "the number of million times per second a processor can do absolutely nothing." BogoMips can be used to see whether it is in the proper range for the particular processor, its clock frequency, and the potentially present CPU cache. It is not usable for performance comparison between different CPUs. Proper BogoMips ratings As a very approximate guide, the BogoMips can be pre-calculated by the foll...
