Q: Remove user space quota in Ubuntu 12.04?

lol. I know how annoying that is.
Happens a lot in the SO rooms.
@Braiam got a sec to help me?
deppends, is a short PEBKAC problem or something more complex?
It's kinda strange..
I can't use Ubuntu right now because my wireless stopped working, and I need some info from a program.
Actually, never mind.
It would be nice to get my wireless working, though I don't have time to troubleshoot it :-/
late night?
normally my system breaks before I go to sleep... and I leave it like that

lol.
I'm busy with studies etc
maybe... I change my gravatar...
Might be a good idea. I need to change mine.

Q: How to start an application with bottom most property?

John ツI want to start an application with bottom-most property. That means that the window will remain always in the bottom of the other windows. Is this possible? I think that there must be an application that does such a thing, but I have not idea how to find it... For example I want to start chrom...

Hey guys
I have ubuntu and a ubuntu vm
I tried to share my web folder with my local machine but can't get it up
now I want to install samba and use it as a network drive rather
how do i do that? all guides show with Windows
@We0 suggest ask this on the site as a question.
09:24
@fossfreedom I need that... It's a personal project.
@Johnツ weird - couldnt think of anything more annoying than windows opening from the bottom!
But... I really need that...
Isn't there any solution?
maybe - maybe something like devilspie will do this - a script similar to this, but you'll need to look for a "bottom" property. askubuntu.com/questions/92190/…
copy and paste the following: is that code written in Python?
What language is that?
that is the devilspie syntax
09:33
I understand. Interesting. This is helpful. Please post an answer to my question and then expand with new information if that is required, so future users will see it.
Thanks!
I will look into it.
hmm - I'll leave that with you - look forward to seeing your research.
Ok. Thank you for suggestion!

@hbdgaf Yes, I have.
We will be using it at work in a week or two, when I find 3 hours to go and deploy it.
We did the math, and one hour a week (tops) of my time to maintain it is still cheaper than the GitHub plan that we will have to be on
And it's nice. We used it briefly before we could afford GitHub, and then we went to GitHub because of guys who didn't know how to use the got CLI and wanted the GitHub for $platform GUI.

hello everyone
could someone give me a hint on why my Rythmbox crashes after I start it?
(I honestly don't know how to debug this)
ubuntu version? version of RB? error message after launching from a terminal?
@fossfreedom hi! thanks for helping. let me try to find all of that
so ubuntu is 12.10
RB is 2.97 i think
let me try to launch it from terminal

hmm - try the two answers from here ... you'll need to reimport all of your music, preferences, playlists etc again if you do though. askubuntu.com/questions/7979/…
that won't be a problem, as long as it works back!
ok, it is importing everything again and is working for now. What do you think was the problem? some weird preferences?
sometimes the database can get corrupted - usually that causes the issue

@fossfreedom I see! thank you so much little mouse!

@Seth your comments became obsoletes since John marked Radu answer as answered... I really don't know how to say it...
hey guys! longtime no talk. I'm setting up my first upstart script and am having some issues with it running at boot up. The start|stop|restart commands work flawlessly, but the process does not start on startup. My config has the following stanza: start on filesystem or runlevel [2345]
oh wait, nevermind, I just checkout out the logs and found some mysql errors, which indicates that the mysql service is not running at the time this is getting started... I need to wait for mysql :)

@Seth dude, java has some fantastic errors. I <3 working in jruby.
@user320 Mine is new enough that it doesn't work, but you should almost always use the proprietary nvidia if you can.

Hello uys!
Any Zorin OS user out there?
yes me
I am using it right now
i love it
Good! I love it too, that's why I stick with it.
@CristianaNicolae doubtful, any question you could have better in Unix & Linux
I find it better than ubuntu in a way.
agreed. I do not like the unity look
21:43
zorin is distinctly off-topic
@user320 are you using Zorin right now?
no
no at this instant
@Braiam Thanks for the tip. But I stick with ask ubuntu chat because most of my Zorin problems received answers from ask ubuntu forum not from unix and linux forum.
I have it though
zorin is based off ubuntu
@fossfreedom Sorry, with all the respect, but I don't aree with you. I am using Zorin for several months and I could see very well that it is so simlar with Ubuntu that I can call it an Ubuntu with blue face instead of orange, if I can say.
I cannot consider offtopic a distribution that it is so similar with Ubuntu.
21:47
its off-topic - whether you agree with me or not. Try to keep conversations to ubuntu and the official variants please.
3
@CristianaNicolae please read askubuntu.com/help/on-topic instead
Like I said, when I have a problem with Zorin, I find the answer on Ask Ubuntu, most frequently.
do you have a problem?
@fossfreedom It is not me who doesn't agree with you, is my Google results. Sory, but ask ubuntu solves my problem, not Unix and not even Zorin oficial forum.
@fossfreedom to be fair there is a lot of other stuff beyond distros that would also be considered off-topic.
21:50
ok, I don't know if they solve your problems or not, but abiding by the rules Zorin is off-topic here. Point. @user320 @CristianaNicolae
I am using ubuntu
@jrg Well I don't know anything about ruby.. but it seems to be well written.
ruby is a jewel
jrg
jrg
@Seth java error messages are maddening, just like anything. until you realize that they all have a pattern
and then you go and make ruby segfault. then everyone just is like "DUDE. HOWD YOU DO THIS?!!!1!????"
I found that python's errors messages are the best
21:52
@jrg make ruby segfault and show me :P
@CristianaNicolae do you need help though with anything. I have had a lot of trouble with zorim myslef
jrg
jrg
@Braiam i can't show you that code, i'm not technically allowed to share that, because it was under NDA. :(
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
@user320 Is the Movie Player that comes with the distro. I can't see well the videos with it. The image is stoping from time to time and the sound vanishes after a while. I have checked the files, they are ok. I can see the video in my foto cam but not on the netbook.
jrg
jrg
Trust me, if I coould, I would.
because it was pretty cool how we did that.
21:55
@user320 I remember that last time I used Zorin I had to change this player with another one that alowed me to see movies and subtitles, but I don't remember its name.
@jrg That's probably true. I don't have enough experience to know myself.
Anyway, the idea is the following: should I try to solve the problem with Movie Player ? Is any way to solve that bug? Or should I just purge it and look for another app?
use vlc
its comes with zorin ultimate

anyway to keep it low?
the RAM usage I mean
@jrg Do you remember me posting a link about a cellular carrier with something like $30 unlimited? I'd like to see if they're still around, but I can't remember what they're called.
@Braiam Yeah, I already tried searching around.
Can't find any keyword matches.
jrg
jrg
22:43
@Seth yes. tmobile
$30, unlimited data, 100 minutes of talk.
first 5GB of data at 4G speeds.
i had them until I started doing 300 minutes, then I moved to a different plan
are there any cool interactive background savers for linux
or simply just non-static
@jrg No, it wasn't tmobile.. It was some other small carrier.
Thanks though :)
23:12
Can anyone explain to a newbie like me why it is better to use the Terminal to install or uninstal apps instead of using Ubuntu Software Center?
23:31
@CristianaNicolae there's no better way, is a matter of convenience... just that.
Aha! Ok thank you!
Anyway, I'll stick with the little black window instead of the coloured one. :)
