Q: Mint 15 Stopped connecting to new wireless networks

Hollis ScriberI know this is Ubuntu forums, but I'm not receiving any answers from the Mint community... I am a fresh migrant from Ubuntu 12.04 to Mint 15, and I am having a wifi problem. I have two saved networks that I connected to within the first couple of days of having mint, but upon trying to connect t...

btw, this one askubuntu.com/review/close/162587 shouldn't be closed?
is about appling a patch in 13.10
@Braiam Patches being applied to 13.10 belong in bug reports on LP
they are still offtopic here on this site, not because Development Release, but because BugReport
just as an FYI if you want to argue with the person
although i just did that.
00:28
@ThomasW. you are pretty today :(
@Braiam o.o
did you mean 'petty' ?
@ThomasW. are you trivial, without importance?
00:43
haha.. I just got strunk and white on meta XD

BECAUSE MAPS.
I don't get it :-/
@Braiam i don't think the word "pretty" applies :/
the last person to call me pretty was my girlfriend
but she's allowed to call me that.
00:48
ok something got lost in translation
got this stuck in my head-
@Mateo why I remember David Guetta? youtu.be/jofNR_WkoCE?t=1m40s
I just wrote this piece of Python code:
n = (self._weekday + self._num) / 7
for w in range(0, n + 1):
    yield (max(0, d - self._weekday) if d <= (self._num + self._weekday) else 0 for d in range(w * 7 + 1, (w + 1) * 7 + 1))
Ten points to the first person who can tell me what it does.
@NathanOsman SyntaxError: 'yield' outside function
what python version?
should be 3... both have syntaxerror
01:03
@Braiam Sorry, it won't run out of context.
I just wondered if anyone could figure out what it was doing just by looking at it.
@NathanOsman Well duh ;)
@Mateo 2.x
tells the day of week
@Mateo: Close./
yeah... but the next day of the week aka tommorrow
01:05
unless using 0 based system...?
it reset the day if it reach 8 or 7...
weeks in a month?
@NathanOsman read sscce.org ¬_¬
So basically what it does is generate a list of weeks for a month with each week being a list of days in the month.
oh, nice
01:10
wait, that snippet or the yield + snippet function?
this is spam, isn't it askubuntu.com/q/350563/169736 ? just a question with a link to reddit...
maybe not spam, but I'm not opening the link...

@rajagenupula I found a very good Web Upd8 tutorial related to your question dated September 10 about Gnome 3.10. The tutorial was posted on Web Upd8 on September 26, 2103.
01:41
@rajagenupula just in case it didn't ping you chat line above me ^ (was a while since in this room)
Had to load several days worth... so I'm not sure your message @karel would have notified him
anyway, that probably would have been better as a comment on "that question"

Q: How to install GNOME 3.10 in Ubuntu 13.10?

rajagenupulaI am using Ubuntu 13.10. Is it possible to install GNOME 3.10 in it?

@karel that is annoying, trying to game the system...

@ThomasW. I need to report a bug in the apt.conf manual, should I use ubuntu-bug or go to LP and report against ubuntu-doc?
02:36
@Braiam it depends... the apt.conf manual, is it in the Ubuntu docs, or is it the manpage installed by the apt / apt-get package?
apparently apt:
dpkg -S /usr/share/man/man5/apt.conf.5.gz
apt: /usr/share/man/man5/apt.conf.5.gz
file a bug against the apt package then. ubuntu-bug apt
make sure to mention in the subject the manpage is wrong or bugged
then explain where it's bugged.
that's what I'd do
it'll be added to the Ubuntu docs team stuff if they have to see it
although i bet they're subscribed to packages they help work with on the documentation
roger that!
03:05
@Braiam now the reddit post has been removed XD
@Seth I wonder why... :P
Are you hinting at something? ;P

Q: How can I connect to my RPi NFS server using version 4?

SparhawkI've set my Raspberry Pi up as an NFS server, but I cannot connect to it with NFS version 4. However, version 3 works. Hi guys
anyone around that has any experience with xubuntu and tightvnc?
14:49
@rantsh what do you want to do with vnc?
run the server on xubuntu - then log on on other pc?
well I vnced into my rasberry pi once this was a simple guide, should work on other stuff too - learn.adafruit.com/…
I f... my desktop
I did this 2 commands: sudo mv /usr/bin/nautilus /usr/bin/nautilus.bak

sudo ln -s /usr/bin/pcmanfm /usr/bin/nautilus
Does anyone know how to undo it? Before I format my PC
@Crake albeit, I'm almost asking you why you did that, here is how you recover it...
sudo rm /usr/bin/nautilus
sudo mv  /usr/bin/nautilus.bak  /usr/bin/nautilus
you may want to install debsums and check that everything is right:
sudo apt-get install debsums && debsums -s
just me or this is a duplicated askubuntu.com/q/240496/169736
15:19
Ya, the first two commands, sadly, didn't fix my problem
the debums one... jesus christ, what a bunch of "missing file"
I should probably format it
or do sudo apt-get --reinstall install packages-with-missing-files
"Unable to locate package packages-with-missing-files"

Baah, I'll just reformat
I need to change my encryption anyway

Q: How can I get a Low-RAM Ubuntu

themirrorI've seen several complaints that Ubuntu uses twice as much RAM in a fresh install compared to Debian. Back from the format
@Braiam "I'm almost asking you why you did that" ..
Because someone told me to, in Ubuntu SE. I wanted to make thunar or pcmanfm my default file manager
Baah, I don't care anymore, I'm gonna stick with SlowNautilus
Could you please point the guide?

Hello
!
hi!
Its is okay to talk about non-ubuntu distros in here?
like how to solve prolbem for them? or just general chat
problem.Its a ubuntu based distro
not so much... it is hard to dertimine diffrences and some of the more poupular "based" ones have changed some key things that makes it really hard to troubleshoot
21:39
alright then. thanks anyway i guess
what kind of problem?
is there a LM chat i can't find one
ah, probally th U and L would be good
thanks you bye.
good luck

anyone can explain me what in the world is the tag?
I need help makeking a .sh to a launcher or whatever
i have a script called pycharm.sh
but i do not want to have to launch the script trough the terminal everytime
@user320 see how do i make a .desktop file, how do i use chmod, what is /usr/bin/, how do i change file associations, what is the #!/ line at the beginning of a script, the list goes on. i don't know if mint honors .desktop files, but if the devs aren't brain-damaged and they're ubuntu derived they probably will for menu construction.
I am on ubuntu know
*now
just look at those questions themes and you should be able to figure it out

Q: I'm not experienced enough to know if an answer is correct or not. Should I accept it?

I'm not familiar enough with the CPU and how the kernel works under the hood to know the right answer (which is exactly why I asked the question). Moreover, unlike questions abo...

@Mateo if you find nine more people in AU chat to participate in the cross-adding, i'll jump on as long as the same is returned to all participants across the board.
@hbdgaf sure, I'll friend you
@Mateo i posted it over on another network too, so if we can get it to ten so it's a guaranteed win, i'll put in the lots. i'm not on steam much since i lost the windows box though...so it's an all or nothing thing.
@amithKk are you on steam?
23:10
@Mateo also, having fun playing with openbox. seems like a good way to one-time configure devboxes, single purpose boxes, and the like.
This just in: dwulf69 from some other network is in. you're up to 2 of ten
@hbdgaf I'll probally be putting together a one purpose box for the concerto server I'm working on, otherwise the good standby of using 'feh' just to cycle through graphics is doing awesome
Yeah. I more meant for connecting several of special feature set boxes and seeing how things turn out. Single purpose was a little ambiguous
can anyone VTR this askubuntu.com/q/349982/169736 ?
ah, see the edits for why
you might want to add that tar doesn't even need the tick. it's an -ism for some corner cases that isn't needed for simple extraction
