@NathanOsman u still here ?
I heard that there is StackExchange Droid app getting ready .
may I participate in testing of the App ?
I actually made a request also but didnt receive any information.
06:16
Sorry, but I can't really help with that.
I don't have any direct involvement with the Android app.
If you've put your name in for testing, there really isn't much else you can do.

Q: Minor sidelines in Guake window on Ubuntu

charlieI had a problem with the display properties of Guake terminal. Though the original problem mentioned here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/287204/guake-terminal-has-space-left-at-the-top has been resolved, there are two minor (1-2 mm wide) lines between the left and right borders of the Guake ter...

Can we close this one fast? askubuntu.com/q/343323/10698
13:23
system just went mad!!!!!!!
maybe they weren't adding post-edit auto reopens to the queue before?
no I checked the edits, some users where doing minor edits and the reviewers didn't catch it...
I like tons of things in the queue, it's better than 0!
yeah well, there's not much you can do
it's like, that software sucks and no one cares about it
13:39
@Braiam the queue just exploded.
wtf. 98 reopen votes?
@jokerdino can you kill this one askubuntu.com/a/343347/169736 ?
woow
is crappy3.com spam/selfpromotion? I've seen the same layout in some links.
13:55
spam probably
14:11
Can we this this done?
Or at least commented on?
@Seth so what's the hurry?
@foss @Seth wants everything

@Seth You know you can suggest and vote on synonyms yourself without moderator interference?
@Braiam ^^^ too
You need a score of 5 in the tag.
Which, since it's a rather small silly tag, only FOSS and Jorge have.
so, sleep --> suspend.
@jokerdino yes
hello people
for some reason dpkg add architecture command is not found on my system by dpkg
:(
14:23
WAIT!
bbl
 dpkg --add-architecture i386
dpkg --add-architecture
yes that doesnt work
14:23
it takes an argument!
yes that argument
either i386 or amd64!
yes
I added the argument
what returns dpkg --add-architecture i386?
dpkg: error: unknown option --add-architecture
14:24
are you running 12.04?
Why do I get permission denied for sudo echo 'deb http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/isv:ownCloud:devel/xUbuntu_12.10/ /' >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/owncloud-client.list
dpkg --version?
easy my friend...
@ThatBrazilianGuy echo is a shell builtin
@ThatBrazilianGuy you need to make sure that everything is englobed
14:25
Debian `dpkg' package management program version 1.16.1.2 (amd64).
This is free software; see the GNU General Public License version 2 or
later for copying conditions. There is NO warranty.
@jokerdino Bulletin? You mean built-in?
 sudo sh -c "echo 'deb download.opensuse.org/repositories/isv:ownCloud:devel/… /' >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/owncloud-client.list"
@ThatBrazilianGuy oh yeah.
i was looking at tag wiki bulletins and mixed up a little
@jokerdino =P
@Braiam Works, thanks!
@Braiam ?
14:28
@mojo706 apt-cache policy dpkg ?
back
@Braiam
dpkg:
  Installed: 1.16.1.2ubuntu7.1
  Candidate: 1.16.1.2ubuntu7.1
  Version table:
 *** 1.16.1.2ubuntu7.1 0

     1.16.1.2ubuntu7 0
        500 ftp.oleane.net/ubuntu precise/main amd64 Packages
@Seth that meta question is now processed
sleep is made a synonym of suspend.
Cool. Thanks.
@mojo706 seems like a bug...
14:30
@Braiam on my system?
@mojo706 add architecture does not work for 12.04
@fossfreedom what to do then?
sudo sh -c "echo i386 >> /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg"
@Braiam is it dangerous?
is there a caveat? I mean
@Braiam sudo sh -c "echo i386 >> /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg
flip the question - why are you trying to do this? What does your current dpkg.cfg contain?
14:36
@fossfreedom I know not want to see?
see what?
the dpkg.cfg
@jokerdino wanna close and merge this? askubuntu.com/q/297486/44179
@mojo706 dont understand. What does the file currently contain?
@Seth closed
14:39
@fossfreedom
let me get home I deal with this
so you already have i386 in the file. You dont need to run the command.
it gives an error
when I try to use dpkg
@jokerdino merge?
If I don't respond I am driving please bear with me
@mojo706 DRIVE INSTEAD!
I don't want your demise over me....

A: Lots of questions in the reopen queue

Shog9We just rolled out a change to how questions are automatically added to the reopen queue. Previously, if the author edited a closed post within 5 days of it being closed, that would trigger it to be added to the queue. This was a great way to get additional views for questions that might've been ...

that explain everything :S
16:07
80 reopen votes!?1!1? *grabs a cup of coffee*
@Alaa be careful some of them are valid :S
is there a way to check more reopen questions without the queue?
@Braiam no

I'm sorry I took a detour and ended with a beer in my hands
LOL at the old "not a real question" close reason.
I just realized that, back then, when questions were closed as duplicate, Community would go in and actually add a "Possible duplicate:" line to the beginning of the question. Now it's much better integrated. AskUbuntu has come a long way =).
askubuntu.com/posts/198065/revisions this guy came back 2 months later just to edit an "an" to an "a". LOL.
@Alaa Yes, it is much better now. When the duplicate banners were automatically edited into the top of questions instead of being shown separately and above the questions, people would often edit them out thinking that reopened the question. Instead, it kept the question closed as a duplicate, but kept people from seeing what it was duped to.
@Alaa LOL
@Braiam ¬_¬
17:56
hi there
am short on time for this
@EliahKagan yeah, exactly what I was thinking!
got dated hardware
USB 2.0
two external HDD's
want to encrypt
ex post, so-to-speak (the data's already on it)
data of some 100 and 250 GB respectively
how easily (and safely (and non-destructively !!)) can I encrypt those drives?
also, would it be a very time-consuming operation ??
thanks!
(need to know / decide in the next 2 hrs....)
((don't even have time to google))
askubuntu.com/q/343452/10698 I really need help fast..
I use skype for several hours everyday it need to be fixed asap.. -.-
18:20
@Alvar if nothing works, you can do rm -rf ~/.pulse and restart the session...
or you might want to "move" them, so it stays reproducible
jrg
jrg
yeah, ~/.pulse is fun.
@nuttyaboutnatty try truecrypt.
well it worked yesterday and the week before that, but today nothing...
@Alvar amixer -c 0 set 'Mic' 100% and test if your mic works
amixer -c 0 set 'Mic' 100%
Simple mixer control 'Mic',0
Capabilities: pvolume pswitch penum
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
Limits: Playback 0 - 31
Mono:
Front Left: Playback 31 [100%] [12.00dB] [off]
Front Right: Playback 31 [100%] [12.00dB] [off]
got that back O.o
the mic grabs audio now?
18:29
but inskype I can only choose pulseaudio as the device
@Braiam well in sound it grabs audio but in skype it puts my sound output as my input
pulse is hearing alsa Default Source: alsa_input.pci-0000_00_08.0.analog-stereo
grrr...
if i see the bar in audio --> input i see it move
let me install skype
but skype doesn't realize that..
skype sucks btw..
I would have used Windows since it's more stable and better there but windows have decided to not work anymore, it uses 100% of the CPU always. -.-
is the facebook thingy integration... they decided to make things more messy and cluttered
liked when Skype was Skype
18:33
skype is still just skype on ubuntu
well it works most of the time -.-
oh lets reinstall skype
didnt even think of that
@Alvar I'll kill you!
?!?!?!
@Braiam whaaat
@Alvar elemental my dear Watson, reinstall to fix :P
reinstall is op dude
works almost every time ;)
btw, delete the .config/Skype or .Skype, if you have any...
18:35
ok
doing a purge instead
I did purge, my old config remained :P
-.-
purged and deleted stuff
installing now..
still sam problem, skype uses my sound output as my input -.-
so my friends hear my music and themselves instead of me..
fail!
in skype microphone = Pulseaudio server?
yes
everything is pulse and there is no option to change it there..
ok, then the trick is alsa
18:42
yes but how?
don't leave me now Braiam!
@Alvar why your card couldn't be a 5.1 like mine :(
beacuse it's a laptop
and an asus 1201n laptop
@Braiam braiam?
@Alvar amixer -c 0 sset 'PCM' 100%
@Braiam that nuked my sound output to zero...
@Alvar all or just skype?
18:53
testing skype now
no difference in skype..
just put 100% and you get it back
this is so annoying..

Q: How to schedule initial configuration of a system after cloning?

19:09
@Braiam did a sound test and my input microphone works. it's just skype related issue..
19:23
whats the matter with the reopen queue? 50 items? and strange ones: askubuntu.com/review/reopen/156451
19:36
and the "full revision history" shows the insertion of the "duplicate link" :)
@Braiam just found out it's not related to skype, same issue in Team Speak..

1 hour later…
20:49
@mods can squish all this guy questions together?
@Alvar man, what a pain do: amixer -c 0 set 'Mic' toggle && amixer -c 0 set 'Front Mic' 100% && amixer -c 0 set 'Capture' toggle
err... correction amixer -c 0 set 'Mic' toggle && amixer -c 0 set 'Mic' 100% && amixer -c 0 set 'Capture' toggle
21:28
@Alvar if that still don't allow your mic to work, I would need pacmd info && pacmd dump-volumes while skype is running
21:41
@Braiam still nothing.. pastebin.com/Lh1cFQBL that's pacmd info..
and on pacmd dump-volumes `pacmd dump-volumes
Welcome to PulseAudio! Use "help" for usage information.
>>> Unknown command: dump-volumes` while skype is running ...
@Alvar mm... can you restart?
@Braiam restart?
yeah
reboot?
yeah...?
21:45
ok.. done it a few times already :P
then is weird... pulse is hearing the analog-input-microphone instead the internal one (I'm pressuming you are using a headset, or a separated microphone)
and I have done any quark I could think of with alsa...
21:59
got kicked of my system because of kernel 3.11
cannot post this as question/message to askubuntu.com - but there is something not clean with 3.11 - the .ICEauthority file is suddenly deleted when kernel 3.11 is installed ?!
only window-manager xfce works the rest not ...
why not booting into 3.10 or older?
yes of course did that, but .ICEauthority is not there any more, so booting back works only with xfce
and restore .ICEauthority with extundelete failed ...
@Braiam this is so funny man!
I can now hear myself with no delay
but skype still wont detect my voice
it's crazy
22:04
ninja mode ?
touch .ICEauthority ?
as empty file and then it will be updated again ?
@Braiam But now I at least know how I sound when I'm on Skype! xD
( overseen simplest solution, because it was too near ... )
@Alvar man, I'm trying to make linux (Debian, Ubuntu, whatever) hear the darn front mic port... it never worked...
since 7 years back...
22:06
-.-
well this worked yesterday
and today dead.
feeling a re-install is the only solution to strange problems...
sure you have no sore throat ? - hehehe.
@Alvar test live first!
so funny you can't even hear me laughing
ninja with sore throat ...
mm.... what the heck now? 63 upgrades to *+b# versions... no thanks...
and changelog says nothing about this "version"
22:08
okay. its bedtime now ... falling backwards ... soon. nice nightie.
@Braiam yeah... I think it's this kernel since I had no problems before I installed it..
@Alvar why didn't you said that earlier! Is always the kernel, but never lupus ¬_¬
hah
didn't think of it until now
it's not like you think of the most remote solution until you've tried the easiest and fastest..
well lets reboot with an older kernel!
@Braiam made no difference, still hear myself and skype dont
@Alvar actually, that's my way of thinking... I look for complex solutions to simple problems...
-.-
22:17
and simple solutions for complex/complicated problems
so how do i revert so i dont hear myself anymore?
amixer -c 0 set 'Mic' toggle && amixer -c 0 set 'Capture' toggle
22:30
@Alvar ^ ?
Does someone knows how to change the colors to a Terminal so the username is different from the content?
22:43
this question is like dupe of 3 others askubuntu.com/q/299976/169736
23:18
@Braiam I don't get it :S
@Lucio and I'm not going to explain it :/
lol
@Braiam I did get it
\o
quick question
no time left for truecrypt
(the preferred solution)
is there some quick n dirty tool
which is somewhat equivalent to setting a BIOS "boot password" for external USB drives (that is, no encryption) ???
23:28
@nuttyaboutnatty do you need file encryption? Also, you may see in IT Security for a good encryption
Encrypting is not quick and dirty, however which way you look at it... Well, maybe dirty.
@nuttyaboutnatty I only know about disks, usb doesn't have such functionality (unless you buy one that has)

Q: How can I request password when Usb hardware is plugged in?

user52252at the moment I use Xubuntu 11.10, my question is: How can I request password when Usb hardware is plugged in? Example: I plug usb mass storage: now xubuntu open a window and show me files and folders of a usb mass storage. I want that when I plug usb mass storage (or any other usb hardware) as...

Perhaps?
> We've answered questions about blasting ATMs, stealing some documents from a storage unit, padlocks, shooting laser into cameras, protecting computers from a nuclear apocalypse, detecting CCTV cameras, and getting teenagers off our lawns. Every month we get paranoid about something new.
from here
thanks! great pointers so far
@Seth dirty indeed (my first impression)
questions come to mind:
what happens on different OS's (e.g. windoze ?) ??
what does /var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/mount-usb.pkla mean exactly?
23:33
@nuttyaboutnatty nothing, that solution is local
@Braiam ok......
bummer
man, in IT they are really paranoid...
well.. that's there job. To be paranoid.
Have you turn it off and on again? — Lucio 30 secs ago
I couldn't resist :D
@Seth or they just extended part of their childhood and made hide-and-seek their livelihood ?
23:37
@Lucio I'm gessing he's a drive-by user...
or that he really reboot, then forgot about the question...
@nuttyaboutnatty Perhaps..
