Anyone know of a good static website generator?

ha I didn't even know websites were distinguished between static and dynamic

Here's an article about the differences

Hmmm.... well I put one thing on github, does that count as a static website?

yeah
"GitHub Pages is a static site hosting service designed to host your personal, organization, or project pages directly from a GitHub repository."
on a side note, what the heck, why is my Windows 7 install BSODing on me all of a sudden!?!?

Windows 7 is going EOL, MS way of getting $140 out of you for Windows 10 :P
OTOH most of my stuff is posted in Ask Ubuntu which I guess you would call a dynamic website???

@WinEunuuchs2Unix funnily enough I just the other day installed windows 10 on another HDD to give it a try and it's just as bad as it was 3 years ago IMO... but my Win7 drive was never connected to the motherboard at the same time as the drive with Win10 so I have no idea what possibly could have happened to screw up my Win7 install?
oooooo I think the SATA cable is shot
I just swapped it with the SATA cable on my DVD drive and everything seems to be normal now
what clued me in was that my Ubuntu install (on the same drive as Win7) failed to boot with "attempt to read or write outside HD0
Hmm, maybe I should make a Q&A for that

Q: How can I diagnose this networking problem in which scp freezes temporarily?

Duke DougalI am trying to copy a file via scp from a virtual machine to a remote host. After much effort I have found if I use an Ubuntu cloud image, the scp command sits in this state for about a minute or so: ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ scp -i foo.pem logo-60263262.mp4 ubuntu@target.example.com:. logo-60263262.mp4...

Q: Test IPv6 windows + VirtualBox (Ubuntu)

xXx_CodeMonkey_xXxI've never worked with IPv6 before. I have client(Linux)-server(Windows) application. I have Windows 7 as a main OS and Ubuntu 18.04 on a VirtualBox. I need to test that the client can connect to the server through IPv6. How do I setup this?

@ByteCommander May I ask your reasoning behind askubuntu.com/questions/1146326/… ? :)

@vidarlo Sure. I discussed with the OP and AndroidDev (who posted an answer that fits the question before your revision) and we came to the agreement that the change from "why is it so difficult" (which is, granted, not the best type of question, but IMO it got answered reasonably well) to "how can I get it to hibernate on lid closing on my specific system" is quite drastic and would make the existing answers unfitting.
Therefore I reverted your edit and encouraged the OP to instead ask a new question about the specific lid closing issue, while preserving the original question and its answers.

@ByteCommander I agree with that sentiment, but why is x hard is primarily a matter of opinion, and thus a valid close reason...

That is a fair point, and if it gets community-closed because of that, then so be it. We can still preserve the good existing answers that way though.

yes, I agree. Tho, in my opinion those answers could still stand :) But it's not a big deal for me, just wanted to hear your opinion on the matter :)

okay, you're welcome

Q: How do I solve "Error splicing files?"

PistosMy hard drive crashed, so I'm using a Ubuntu live disk to access my files. But as I try to transfer them to my flash drive, it occasionally comes up with an error message which, when I view details, says: Error splicing file: Input/output error. How can I fix this?

the 30 upvoted answer is meh. Very unlikely.
the one from 2018 is good but not very newbie friendly :D
I had a weird day today.
- public transport on strike so worked from home
- at 5;45 I sat straight up in my bed. Lighthing struck a tree 100 meters away from my flat.
- at 14:00 someone ran the doorbell saying the basement is flooded in the flat and I should hurry to save my stuff from the basement. Well I have a room on my own floor so not my problem
- Just now police and ambulance. Someone died from probably an overdose :P

Aaargh. Sad. @Rinzwind
Had an unexpected day kind of free, due to the same transport on strike, instead of a "obligatory course for exam committee chairmen". What they don't know is that Mr. Belbin sais I am no natural chairman :)

didn't know him. 2 kids and a wife. if he did OD that's .. i dunno. you know can't get my head around it. why do drugs when you have kids?
@JacobVlijm lol

Some people just can't escape from addiction once they get into the right (wrong) triggering environment. Extremely sad though.
In other news @Rinzwind you will soon be able to show time on all your monitors. What a day off is good for :)

3:41 PM
I only have a notebook >:)

To celebrate, you should buy two extra monitors :)
Weird btw that the green indication seems to be gone for good. Rep change only shows in numbers. On all devices. Does it show green on your box @Rinzwind?

eh
if I understand what you ask: yes

Then it's a conspiracy. I knew it.
No clue what it causes it.

got an example pixs?

On rep change, a green box usually appears. number changes, never a green box though. The trigger for my addiction doesn' t work :)
@Rinzwind ^

3:53 PM
ah. they removed that when they changed the theme :=)
I thought you meant the rep in the dropdown.

They did??? I just noticed in the past few days.

If I understood what you meant though. still fuzzy in my head

Hehe, going to buy green stickers.

4:14 PM
@JacobVlijm this? -.
?

@Rinzwind tell me the secret!

make the owner of SE like you?

You know him?

I got a mail that they like me when I got 100k rep >:-)

100K is far away (dat rijmt)

Q: Ubuntu and CentOS, are they one and the same?

WhiteBirdThis might be a silly question, I find myself in the middle of a debate between 2 parties and given the circumstances I cannot ask either of them what's the difference really. So, I have spent all my life working on Windows, never been to *NIX systems. A setup is being done for some deployment w...

@Rinzwind Hmmmm? What about nouveau?

it is open source

Yeah, but all the others not, are they?
Of course nouveau is the open source driver
The question is about all these other nvidia driver metapackages
They are labeled (open source) inth e screenshot, but I'm pretty sure these are supposed to pull in the binary drivers by nvidia, which are proprietary

ah I missed an "any but" :C
what is weird he has NO version in the screen. 1st line should list the model.
