@Fabby Both our answers got deleted because they didn't like them on this question: askubuntu.com/questions/1093582/…

@WinEunuuchs2Unix You rep whore! :D
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Yeah, I know... I'm wondering how mine got deleted with a score of 0 and no moderator intervention.

@Fabby I was using rep to get a software job like you have. To get out of the warehouse. It's in my BIO so it's not whoring at all :p

Q: What's the format of the debconf config.dat file?

Dan Ellisdebconf has a file at /var/cache/debconf/config.dat that contains answers to configuration questions. For example, Name: libpam-runtime/profiles Template: libpam-runtime/profiles Value: unix, systemd Owners: libpam-runtime Variables: profile_names = mkhomedir, unix, systemd profiles = activate...

@Fabby @Seth Any ideas to Fabby's comment? askubuntu.com/questions/1093582/…

@WinEunuuchs2Unix A warehouse employee rents out his body. A Developer rents out his mind...
Who's the biggest whore then???
:D ;-)
I need sleep!
Good night!

12:12 AM
@Fabby The one that makes the most money, you :p
Good Night!

@WinEunuuchs2Unix I'm in Germany, remember? We make less than half a US salary.

@Fabby I'm pretty sure a tech guy makes twice what a warehouse guy makes.

We'll discuss some other time and I'll give you my Telegram handle.
Good night...

Have a good night and great day tomorrow :)

Just wondering... Not important or anything...
(It's not a stellar answer anyway, but then: neither is the question)

Q: OS Behaviour for not Defining cpuset for a Service

kamaciI have two services which I manage via docker-compose at Ubuntu 18.04. One of them is consuming too much CPU. So, I have enabled cpuset limit for it and did not specify a limit for other service. So, does it guaranteed that other service will always use one of the free cores or Operating System ...

Q: Web unreachable

ubunutMy problem is rather weird: I can ping www.google.com successfully, but any other site is unreachable for ping (and of course in the browser, too). I have to write this message with my phone, because - you know. I'll transcript the output from the terminal: sh user@ThinkPadE470 >> ping www.googl...

What?

;)

@dessert Thanks. It was a copy-paste of a previous answer.
Going to wait for a couple of days and then close as a dupe.
(Editing original too)
@PerlDuck It just smelled wrong, thus hardware problem.
Windows drivers are just incredibly resilient: These kinds of problems i encountered regularly back in the DOS / Novell days with HP switches.

@Fabby so it’s actually ÖT?

@dessert :D :D :D
@dessert Starred!

10:15 PM
No idea what you're talking about. All those ethernet issues are riddles to me.

@Fabby thanks, but really: is it off-topic then?

Technically it is, but it has a software solution, so I still regard it as ÔT

well played

@dessert Gimme a minute to tell the dog to go away...
:P ;-)
I'm dog-sitting again: Big black Labrador this time...

well then where will you sit when it goes away?
;)

10:18 PM
Me? In the sofa eating peanuts?
Him? At my feet!
>:-)

“dog-sitting”
I picture you on its back

@PerlDuck I used to be a network engineer when 80% of a NetEng's job was to make cables and figure out free interrupts.

@Fabby Makes sense then.

Yeah, I know the hardware level and can still make cross-cables (though with the newer high-end NICs that is fast becoming lost knowledge as most of those NICS are auto-sensing nowadays)

Q: Remove the Reject mention

GillRemove "reject" in the following :https://askubuntu.com/review/suggested-edits/902895 Just wanted to add extra information, that if the keys for addition division etc. The right Unicode has to be choosen

10:37 PM
@Fabby that was hilarious about emailing grandma!
Someone just downvoted my question on asking for software-recommendation. I wonder why?: askubuntu.com/questions/1098530/…

@WinEunuuchs2Unix +1 to answer. Q already had one...

@Fabby Thanks. But why would the question only get downvoted?

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Don't ask a German: We're logical and don't understand neither...

First leave a comment, then downvote unless it's so horrible that you just don't bother commenting.
(which this isn't)

10:41 PM
yeah... it's not the first time I've got downvotes with no reason. I think I have a hater out there :p

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Yeah, someone who'd like to screw you but can't because you're a eunuch...

Perhaps because the calculator shipped with Ubuntu has an advanced mode and can already convert GB to MB, for instance?

Yeah I thought you were spot on with the bounty. Mainly because you are a network expert and I'm ignorant in that area :)

@WinEunuuchs2Unix I know why! Because you Americans are wrong!

@PerlDuck you can enter in 500 MB or 1.2 TB you mean?

10:43 PM
1000*1000 = 1 million
1 million * 1 million = 1 billion
1 million * 1000 = 1 milliard

No. But there's a drop down for "from" and "to"

1 billion * 1 million = 1 trillion

Oh.. well I wasn't looking for MiB, TiB, etc based on 1024 but real millions and trillions based on 1,000

Wait, "milliard" reminds me of mustard.

Fabby typed all that in less than a decasecond!

10:45 PM
@PerlDuck Was? In Deutsch sagt man auch "Milliarden"!
But then we have to forgive them: They're still on the colonial system!
(Look it up: the imperial system was adapted, but the US decided to keep the old imperial system which was subsequently called the Colonial System by the rest of the Brits.)

@PerlDuck You should post an answer on the Ubuntu Calculator MB, GB options. I never knew about it and I'm sure lots of people would enjoy learning about it. I'll upvote it for sure!

Me too if you ping me!

me too!

Him Four !!! lol

@Fabby I confused it with "Maille Dijon mustard", in particular with the "Maille" part.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Appealing, but I'm too tired right now. ;-)

@PerlDuck I understand. End of a long week...

Exactly. And I've not yet reached the end. Still work to do. :-(

Bummer. I took the whole day off to save strength for company xmas party tonight :)

Reasonable. What's your local time, @WinEunuuchs2Unix ?

10:57 PM
4 PM
Is it Midnight in Germany (where I think you were from)
@PerlDuck ^^^^

Even more reasonable.
Exactly. Midnight.
Is that 12 AM or PM? I never can remember.
However. I haven't had dinner yet but am hungry.

I think 12AM is midnight and 12PM is noon.

Then it's 12AM at my place.

This is a delectable answer by a new user if I must say so myself: askubuntu.com/questions/217904/…

Have a Good Night! And enjoy your X-Mas party, @WinEunuuchs2Unix

11:04 PM
@PerlDuck Thanks. Have a good sleep when you finally get around to it!

:-) Yes, thank you.

@karel Agreed and upvoted!
At first I thought you wrote "deleteable" went and looked and thought what the heck?

Oh no. I'm not going to use that word again.

@PerlDuck I have a DR Test tomorrow.

@Fabby Liberia kinda makes sense but what is Myanmar doing?

@Seth ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm old enough to remember the imperial system still being on the Physics curriculum in secondary school, but it just doesn't make sense.
I dunno...
@Seth Do you know what the ground rule of the metric system is?
The basis of it all?

I assume you're going for "makes sense"
but I'd say the decimal system

1L of water at 3.8°C (highest density of water) = 1Kg = 1dm³
so why not 1L = 1g = 1m?

ohhh, right. I remember learning that back in chemistry, I think.

well, 1 gram had to be close to 1 grain and 1 m had to be close to 1 yard and I forgot about L
So if you take 50L of petrol, your car is about 50Kg heavier.
it's just logical and you can convert weight to volume to length easier.
I mean: you could respond to: How heavy is 1m of milk?
/shrug...
OK, if I start talking about metres of milk, it's time to go to sleep...

Q: UFW is blocking DNS requests through VPN

Filip NikoI have a very strange behaviour of my UFW on Ubuntu 18.04. I set up basic rules, everything is OK until I connect client to this server through VPN.
