2:39 AM
@TheWanderer I have the 6T now.
So, yes, I have a OnePlus phone.

I have it too @NathanOsman
I hate it

Why?

Noting
Oops
It's not worth $600
It's not a flagship
OOS is
A might've
Nightmare
Damnit phone lol
The vibration motor is bad
There's no headphone jack!

2:54 AM
I don't really care about the headphone jack anymore.
I have a pair of aptX-enabled Bluetooth headphones.

I have enough stuff to charge without worrying about my earbuds, so I can't do wireless
I've had it at least 3 times where I need to charge the phone while I'm listening to music
the FP sensor also really doesn't like my left thumb for some reason

Then you can still use your wired earphones and charge at the same time.

yeah lemme pay $50 for something that was already in the 6 for less money

Well, I guess you need some sort of y-adapter then.
No idea if such a thing exists or where to get it.

I think I need a headphone jack

2:58 AM
Lol.

my Note 9 has it

It's too bad it doesn't have wireless charging or you could do that and still use the USB-C port.

then I need a wireless charging pad lol

I do agree the vibration motor makes a strange noise.
But the Nexus 6 was still much worse.
That thing was louder than the ringer :P

lol
this one makes my fingers tingle after typing for a while
I don't think it can physically vibrate for less than 30ms
I also got the 6T for free, with a free line of service
so it's not like I'm mad because I paid for it

3:01 AM
I paid over $900 for mine.
So yeah, I kinda have to like it. :P

$671 USD
that's a lot

Yup.

Galaxy S9 would've been a better investment imo

I can't stand TouchWiz.

international variant
unlock, flash GSI or ROM

3:02 AM
I was originally debating the Mate 20 but after all the stuff that's been going on with their CFO...

I don't think that should have been the tipping point for you

It wasn't.
But it made me feel better later.
:P

that seems more like a publicity stunt to annoy China

In all honesty, I wanted to stick with OnePlus.

I hear the 3 and 3T were great

3:03 AM
OxygenOS is awesome.

5 and 5T also good

I had the 3 before this and it was stellar.

but the 6T is a steaming mess
and OOS is not awesome

It's rumored to still be in line for Android P.

notification icons stick in the status bar after they're dismissed

3:04 AM
I haven't seen that...

the entire ambient display lights up like an LCD when scanning a fingerprint

It has to in order to illuminate your finger.
Otherwise the optical sensor can have trouble reading it.

only the finger part
which it does on the lock screen

the ambient display's blacks turn gray and the clock goes full brightness

3:05 AM
Now that you mention it, yeah.

my media volume kept resetting to 50% too
actually, the ambient display is always gray for some reason
like it's an LCD
it's really weird

The one thing I've seen is WiFi turning itself back on once in a while after I turn it off.

I haven't had that yet

Just wait :P

maybe it's Smart Lock or whatever?

3:05 AM
I don't have that enabled.
Unless... it turned that on too :P

I've noticed that switching to data from WiFi takes a good 5 seconds though

I haven't noticed that. As soon as WiFi disconnects, I have an almost instant LTE connection.

it takes forever for me
both on TMO and international firmware

So we have different quirks :P

OOS is a mess
it would be impressive if it were a community ROM in its early stages
but it's a corporate firmware
and it's almost as bad as LGUX

3:07 AM
Well, at least they are pushing semi-regular updates out.

security updates are more frequent for Samsung

There is still hope for getting some of those fixed.
I have a Galaxy Tab E here that won't behave, so I'm not terribly thrilled at Samsung right now. :P
If the battery is empty, I can plug it in and charge it. But it won't charge otherwise. Only if it is completely empty when I plug it in.

Q: Excessive screen flickering and artifacting with AMD RX 480

kidfrommarsI am experiencing excessive screen flickering and artifacting (mainly with gray lines appearing randomly) under regular desktop usage of a variety of Linux distros when using my AMD RX 480 graphics card. So far I have tried using Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and Arch, all of which have had the same proble...

the Note 8 I have here got monthly updates when I had it activated
I can't take OTAs on the 6T but I'm pretty sure 9.0.7 isn't much better than 9.0.6
also the reason I was able to root my TMO 6T before 40 days
was because OnePlus put the seed for the unlock code in plaintext on a device partition
so someone managed to work with a pre-unlocked TMO 6T and hack a method to root others
he didn't publish it and instead decided to report it to OnePlus, who then bounced him around phone support for a while and even hung up
I guess they at least don't have this:
that's the LG G6
the warning wasn't on the LG V20
but it's on the G6, G7, V30, V35, V40

hello
I am currently working on a program and it basically writes data to a text file
I see the file size from nautilus is updating every 8.2kB
is there any significance behind 8.2kB?
Even this person was doing the same - stackoverflow.com/questions/1111661/…
but people dismissed the number 8192 as arbitrary

@RedFloyd I think this isn't the right place to ask questions. By the way which language are you using?

@RedFloyd I'm not sure about AskUbuntu and U&L but on SO you might get a response. Also, don't forget to add what you've understood and where your confusion lies.

Is there a tutorial/book/video regarding disk management? Like Raid/LVM/sda/vda??
I feel like I have a part of the knowledge, but not all

@blade19899 There are books available on Amazon. But don't know about the content. No reviews yet.

@NathanOsman I misread that as "I have a 6 Terabyte phone now..."
:D :D :D
@RedFloyd It depends on your cluster size. Which file system are you using? EXT4? NTFS?
a multiple of 512 bytes is the correct answer.

11:45 PM
@Fabby is that 6 metric terabytes? :p
Or 6 Tebibytes....lol
@Fabby Can you do me a favour. This bounty answer was accepted and upvoted by OP but he forgot to award the bounty. Could you like casually stroll by and say "Gee you forgot to award the bounty"? askubuntu.com/questions/1099349/…

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Apparently the 6T is a type of phone...

@Fabby Yeah, phones are still at 32GB or so.

:D I was going to answer the exact same as is already answered and you've already accepted that answer but forgot to award the bounty... ;-)Fabby 52 secs ago
(and a +1)

Haha thanks. I've lost two bounties in similar ways in the past by not speaking up myself.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix and thanks to you too!
@WinEunuuchs2Unix You're an idiot!

11:50 PM
You are the undisputed networking king, right up there with Chili555
Haha one bounty I lost is it was never awarded. I upvoted an answer there. Then answered myself. Then he was 1 point ahead in upvotes when bounty ended...LOL

@WinEunuuchs2Unix No: @Chili555 is a class on his own.
I know a lot about the physical side of networking and the logical side as I used to be a Network Engineer when 80% of a NetEng's job was to make cables...

Another bounty I lost I had only answer with 1 vote and it expired without having 2 vote minimum when it expired.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Urgh... I feel one of those coming up because the OP on the last one I answered is way too chatty and demanding.

Haha I used to make cables when 1 HP Laserjet II was shared between 9 users to a serial port smart hub of some kind. Back then printer was 5 grand. Now days they cost a couple hundred and everyone who needs one gets a local laser printer.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix No shit! Serial cables!

11:56 PM
@Fabby I've got four down votes in as many days on questions where no comment was left. Is there anyway of finding out if it was the same user doing it?

I haven't made one of those in ... 30 years?

Yeah sharing the printers was in 1989.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix [thinking]
I don't think there is... Lemme see if I can flag your question here for mod's attention.

@Fabby Haha it could have been the mods downvoting me :p

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Flagged for mod's attention.
@WinEunuuchs2Unix They're not like that.

11:59 PM
@Fabby Thanks for flagging! Yes I know the mods aren't like that. I was J/K. :p
