@KazWolfe Samsung?
Anyone have any good tactics for convincing a Dev to give you access to his code?
He doesn't know Java very well so he's sending me the files individually

also... new challenge of the day. write data to Pi SD card immediately, because the Pi can power off at any time.

Uh wat

I am misusing technology.
I have a Pi hooked up to an RFID reader. Both of these run on a battery.

voltage regulator?

After I capture data on the reader, I just want to kill the power (the Pi is headless) but still ensure my capture data is saved

What are you doing?

1:48 AM
@KazWolfe I feel like there is an fstab/mount option to force this.. but I cannot recall

Q: cmake build issue: undefined reference to `std::__cxx11::basic_string<char, std::char_traits<char>, std::allocator<char>

trilolilI am trying to build some provided C++ examples by following this tutorial which proposes those steps: cd dlib/examples mkdir build cd build cmake .. cmake --build . --config Release Issue is that when executing cmake --build . --config Release I get the following error: yalishanda-think...

according to some people I should try to recompile sqlite, but I have no idea about how to correctly do that
@ByteCommander according to your profile, you seem to have quite some experience. Do you have any advice?

2:12 PM
anybody?

@trilolil random googling ... try adding "-D_GLIBCXX_USE_CXX11_ABI=0" to the end of the CMake line

@fossfreedom already tried it. Didn't solve the issue

k - you should add to your question what you have actually tried.

@fossfreedom oh wait... you say at the end? I put it in the beginning, right after
cmake_minimum_required(VERSION 2.8.12)

PROJECT(examples)
Where exactly should I put it then?

not a clue - but as I said - you've tried a few stuff like this but its missing from your question.
there are dlib packages here - launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dlib have you looked at the debian/rules to see how it is compiled?

2:25 PM
@fossfreedom updated my post
I can't find a link or whatsoever called "rules". What are you referring to?

I followed those steps: https://www.learnopencv.com/install-dlib-on-ubuntu/

@fossfreedom and try to install it?
there is no readme or whatsoever...

? no - the rules show how that dlib library was actually built. It should help you compile your own version of the library. Assuming that is what you are trying todo.

@fossfreedom I am very new to that sort of stuff, I m far from being an expert. rules just contains those lines:
#!/usr/bin/make -f
# See debhelper(7) (uncomment to enable)
# output every command that modifies files on the build system.
#export DH_VERBOSE = 1

# see EXAMPLES in dpkg-buildflags(1) and read /usr/share/dpkg/*
DPKG_EXPORT_BUILDFLAGS = 1
include /usr/share/dpkg/default.mk

# see FEATURE AREAS in dpkg-buildflags(1)
#export DEB_BUILD_MAINT_OPTIONS = hardening=+all

# see ENVIRONMENT in dpkg-buildflags(1)
# package maintainers to append CFLAGS
#export DEB_CFLAGS_MAINT_APPEND  = -Wall -pedantic
# package maintainers to append LDFLAGS
I don't see how that can help me

its running a ./configure with that -DDLIB_NO_GUI_SUPPORT=ON parameter compiling with cmake --sourcedirectory=dlib.
Obvious question - why are you compiling your own library when there is one prebuilt in the repo for you?
libdlib-dev

2:35 PM
@fossfreedom idk, as said I am new to that sort of stuff. I am following the tutorial. it seems to contain some very nice examples which is exactly what I need.
The pkg i just extracted at first sight doesn't seem to contain such examples
Maybe a correcter question would be: why does that dude not use the prebuilt repository

the link I gave you was just how the library was built. You install the package with sudo apt install libdlib-dev - then that dev library is available for you to link with.

As a beginner in linux, I cannot know everything. I am not surrounded by more experienced developers/engineers to show me how to avoid that type of (shitty) pitfalls. The only people able to help me when I m stuck are usually here in the chat or on askubuntu

Hello everybody :)

@fossfreedom ok I ll just do sudo apt and stop all the rest

@cl-netbox hi - and how are you? :)

2:41 PM
@fossfreedom Hi David :) I'm fine - thank you for asking ! :) What about yourself ? Everything fine too ?

just finished Alpha 2 testing. Exhausting !

@fossfreedom ok installed it. I'd like to now just copy one of those examples to my own folder. How can I know how to correctly compile that code?

I tried to do "pkg-config --cflags --libs libdlib-dev", but that returned:
Package libdlib-dev was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libdlib-dev.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'libdlib-dev' found
I don't really know what steps I should follow to know how to compile such a provided example. It doesn't seem to include any exotic/custom ehaderfile. the includes are:

@fossfreedom this is something I can imagine indeed ... trying to get out flawlessly working software is not a trivial thing. :)

#include <dlib/image_processing/frontal_face_detector.h>
#include <dlib/image_processing/render_face_detections.h>
#include <dlib/image_processing.h>
#include <dlib/gui_widgets.h>
#include <dlib/image_io.h>
#include <iostream>
simply doing g++ <filename> -o <output> doesn't work
What would you suggest?

@trilolil I'm no expert here - others should pipeup! "--libs dlib" looks like the correct syntax

2:46 PM
@fossfreedom pkg-config --libs dlib returns
Package dlib was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `dlib.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'dlib' found

sigh

@fossfreedom my reaction every time I get in touch with linux

this sort of g++ syntax with pkgconfig? askubuntu.com/questions/824586/…

@trilolil Hi ! :) another "make" problem ? what about creating a new "SE-make" portal ? :D :D :D

@fossfreedom actually I just typed "pkg-config --libs dlib" in my terminal so far
@cl-netbox hey, hahah yhea sure... why the hell does that stuff get so complicated sometimes
idk how people manage to get that stuff working straight ahead. I lose a tremendous amound of time with that

2:50 PM
@trilolil don't use "make" ... use apt instead ... hahaha :)

@cl-netbox thx, will remember that
I tend to remember every advice about linux I get, in order to not lose too much time at every error I face
what do you guys suggest atm?

@trilolil suggest for what ?

regarding compiling that code. I successfully did sudo apt install libdlib-dev
tried now to compile some code provided by dlib
using: g++ <filename.cpp> -o outputName, but that didn't work
the file only contains those includes:
#include <dlib/image_processing/frontal_face_detector.h>
#include <dlib/image_processing/render_face_detections.h>
#include <dlib/image_processing.h>
#include <dlib/gui_widgets.h>
#include <dlib/image_io.h>
#include <iostream>

@trilolil compiling code is always something what you are doing "on your own risk" ! :D

sigh
it is actually an example they provide

2:53 PM
g++ <filename.cpp> -o outputname $(pkg-config --cflags --libs dlib) at a guess

@fossfreedom returns:
Package dlib was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `dlib.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'dlib' found
bash: filename.cpp: No such file or directory
(indeed I tried that command as well...)
this is the actual provided code: paste.ubuntu.com/25184175
nothing fancy afaik
yet uncompilable so far

@fossfreedom budgie alpha 2 testings must be not exhausting enough as it seems ... hahaha :D

... always looking for people to help out ... so that I can be more productive elsewhere ;)

@fossfreedom @JacobVlijm and @Rinzwind seem to use budgie as default DE ... are there better testers around ? I don't think so. :)

@cl-netbox do you have any idea about my issue?

Gedit*. Bloody autocorrect.
Wow. Gedit is dead.

lol
not really

Oh?

looking for a leader
anyone can submit patches etc

Yeah but with no maintainer what happens to those patches?

3:17 PM
wheee I'm deodexing things

often they wait until a leader comes along. Doesn't stop distro maintainers cherry-picking those suggested patches. We (ubuntu) do that all the time.

So the next Ubuntu release might be without TextEditor by default

Gedit will be the default for the foreseeable future - works perfectly fine with GTK3 - and with GTK3 now being stable, will not "break"

I need a diff checker that can compare files with 100k+ lines of code..

bcompare

3:24 PM
@trilolil no, unfortunately not ... :)

k :/

@trilolil I would have helped if I could, sorry that I am not able to ... :)

np thx

@TheWanderer you can try "meld" (sudo apt install meld) ... should do that fine. :)

Sublime actually has a plugin

@KazWolfe this is what you want: superuser.com/a/160186/22596

hrmm
you created it?
look up how to check for the immutable flag

@TheWanderer I just solved it. Funny: sudo touch /etc/ld.so.conf.d/someFile.conf works

but sudo echo "someText" >> /etc/ld.so.conf.d/someFile.conf doesn't work
so I had to sudo su
and then: echo "someText" >> /etc/ld.so.conf.d/someFile.conf

7:13 PM
hmmm......
that doesn't make sense

indeed

é o português! @IanC
oh no
Portuguese has another tense for he/ha/has???
ack

@TheWanderer what do you mean he/ha/has?

haber
like he visto

@TheWanderer I'm brazillian though lol

7:16 PM
@IanC but you speak Portuguese >_>
so the portuguese :D
brasilenho?

nah, it's protuguese anyways haha

well then

well, "he has seem" has a bit different meaning in portuguese
the literal translation of "have seem" means something like "have been seing"

Google said he estado --> estive and he visto --> tenho visto
but there is a verb for haber... o_O

there are 3 past conjugations in portuguese, perfect, imperfect and more than perfect

7:19 PM
lol
more than perfect?
is that like the present perfect in Spanish?

one is something that happened and is over, another is something that happened and could be still happening, and another I'm not sure but I think it's something that happened before another past event, like a past from past lol
more than perfect is that weird one, that is like a past from past

oh that's like "he had done that"
I can't remember the name

it's sort of like, "I have done that before I did this"
I don't know if such a past exists in english, I don't think it does

hmm
know the name in Portuguese?

"Ele viajara antes de chegarem à sua casa" - He had traveled before they arrived his home
pretérito mais que perfeito
it's not commonly used though

7:25 PM
ohhhh
past subjunctive!
I think
@IanC is it the viajara or chegarem?

@TheWanderer viajara is the past from past

ok yeah
that's imperfect subjunctive in Spanish

but I don't think there's this past in english, you have to use "had (verb)"

yeah

7:59 PM
man, I'm wondering if I have legal basis to break my internet contract without paying the fidelity fee
two providers announced some internet speeds as the least they could provide me, and I found out both were lying

Hmm
So yeah, something that waits to shutdown then cuts power blog.petrockblock.com/powerblock this one looks nice

yup
<iframe src="http://nitroshare.net" id="iframe" style="width: 988px; height: 1323px; left: 167.5px; top: -167.5px;"></iframe>
and then it has some JS

                $("iframe").width($(window).height())
                $("iframe").height($(window).width())
