@TheWanderer HUE!
:D
Yeah so I never pushed that commit
Because... Reasons

2:46 AM
@TheWanderer I just found a comment on YouTube that ended with "huehuehue"

askubuntu.com/questions/924227/… do I need to update this with more info?

@SumeetDeshmukh I believe we are advised to use markdown rather than html tags where possible just edited here
besides, isn't it so much easier to highlight and fix it with a key press/button?
not on mobile I know :/
@SumeetDeshmukh seems to have all possible info!
nice to see you by the way... I was wondering where you had gone :)
if you look at the side-by-side view you can see it looks better now, imho anyway...

6:28 AM
@Zanna well I was on a tour, I came back to find that my internet doesn't work anymore. and my dog is missing, i can't figure out which one is the bigger problem? :/
@Zanna should I use markdowns in my question too, or should I just post huge outputs to paste.ubuntu

@SumeetDeshmukh I was talking about formatting - use markdown (indenting) not <pre> tags
@SumeetDeshmukh only you can say which is the bigger problem I think! But I hope they both get fixed...
@SumeetDeshmukh I would say only paste stuff externally if it doesn't fit in the question because of character limit. paste.ubuntu.com only keeps the stuff for a limited time afaik

@Zanna i'll edit the question || my imaginary dog is definitely a bigger problem || no paste.ubuntu.com then. || it feels good to be back :)

:)
so how can it do it please tell me. — Lokesh Sharma 2 mins ago
!!!
time to take a shower haha

6:44 AM
@Zanna i found instructions specific for ubuntu github.com/codebutler/firesheep#ubuntu-linux
not sure why people don't just go to the github repo itself and read installation instructions there
almost always better than some random second-hand site

@edwinksl indeed

probably no repro

looks like it went away
unclear what they were doing
I agree no-repro

Hi

afternoon :)

Currently having this issue with vim youcompleteme. None of the suggestions worked. Using vim8 from jonathon's ppa. installed vim-nox too! Any pointers?

:/

@Zanna morning! Hope it's all fine.

all fine here... sorry I'm clueless about your vim problem
maybe you could ask on the Vim/Vi SE?
I was wondering if we can improve this question instead of closing it...

The question is already of high quality imo :)

I agree, but I mean, it's getting closed as too broad, so could we try to emphasise the requirements that aren't covered by other answers and link to related questions

It's a big question with specific requirements. I don't know if anyone would want to answer with much details

can anyone verify what OP said in askubuntu.com/questions/924257/… is true? i am able to run python3 -m venv --help without installing python3-venv.

me too

7:53 AM
ok so OP is lying

but on 17.04 so maybe not conclusive

I can. on 16.04

what are they talking about then haha

@Anwar when you said you can run venv, do you mean you can run python3 -m venv?

2 hours later…

not specific to distro imho... but explicitly mentions Arch (they aren't going to use Ubuntu at all!)

12:58 PM
@Zanna If it's not actually distro-specific, aren't we meant to just edit out the off-topicness and answer it? I've heard that go round a few times on Meta. :)

idk... I am OK with it either way

user136984
If it's really not distro-specific then we can do that. Although, if it is good enough, we can then of course migrate it.

Hello everybody ! :)

user136984
@cl-netbox: Hi! :)

@ParanoidPanda Good afternoon to you on this nice and sunny Sunday ! :)

user136984
1:06 PM
@cl-netbox: Yes! Though I am exhausted after my long 6 our hike yesterday through various woodland! :D

@ParanoidPanda six hours ? wow - great ! shows that your health situation is improving fast ... :)

user136984
Yes, very much so. I feel a lot healthier after so much fresh air! :)

@ParanoidPanda I'm very glad to read this - really ! :)

and by "nobody" you mean me :=)

user136984
Yes :P

can someone please help me over here, I want to get back to ubuntu askubuntu.com/questions/924227/…

user136984
1:34 PM
Look at this!!! :D

user136984

user136984
It's a wombat.

@SumeetDeshmukh I see no wireless card at all...

@Zanna it's an USB adopter

user136984
@cl-netbox: Don't you think they're amazingly cute? :D

1:36 PM
yes they are, they look innocent (I couldn't come up with a better word)
@Zanna it's the first entry in lsusb

user136984
"they look innocent" sounds like you're then going to say "but really they're planning to take over the world!". :P

@ParanoidPanda nice my dear panda ... yes super-cute ! :D

user136984
Finally! I can once more hear that chat ping here!

@SumeetDeshmukh oh yeah... maybe you should highlight that's the device you're trying to use in the first part?

@Rinzwind rinzy ! :)

user136984
1:38 PM
Must have been a new package update I got today.

@ParanoidPanda are they trying that?
@Zanna maybe I should.

looks like it's this device askubuntu.com/questions/457061/… @SumeetDeshmukh

user136984
@SumeetDeshmukh: Yes, didn't you know? They're actually really fearsome creators that will bite your head off as soon as look at you. Looking innocent is just a trick to get you closer! >:D

@ParanoidPanda Hi pandy ! :D

@Zanna should I just delete other entries in lsusb?

user136984
1:39 PM
@cl-netbox: What? :D

@ParanoidPanda my god, I don't know alot

@ParanoidPanda hahaha :D

of things

@SumeetDeshmukh maybe... but please take a look at the question I linked... maybe yours is a duplicate of that

@Zanna yes i'm doing that

1:41 PM
hope it works!

@Zanna the problem is wired connection is also not working, I did it using nexus 5 with usb tethering.

user136984
@SumeetDeshmukh: And that's how they like to keep you. Really, if you look in any direction now you will see at least 10 of them in each direction. Buddy, the Wombattian Empire is taking over he world and you didn't even notice! ;P

you can't use tethering? what about ethernet?

user136984
You should pay attention more, then you can be to take one on face to face, snout to snout. The world is now in your hands, or their paws!

@Zanna I do not have ethernet connection. I use mobile data mostly, the wired connection entry can bee seen in the script output `Bus 001 Device 004: ID 18d1:4ee3 Google Inc. Nexus 4 (tether)
` I don't know why it's shown as Nexus 4 (maybe because of custom rom)

1:44 PM
@ParanoidPanda which package was it ? I stlll don't get a sound notification :(

@ParanoidPanda I don't wanna be part of this man, I hated all the movies in 90's, they mostly showed giant animals or sharks killing everybody

@SumeetDeshmukh yeah. I don't know how you can do it without some kind of connection... any other devices you can try to connect to?

user136984
@SumeetDeshmukh: And now all you have to do is deal with some little fat Wombats before they take over the world and have you for dinner. :P

user136984

@Zanna I tried a Motorola phone and a xiaomi phone, both wired and wireless, not working. `ping 8.8.8.8 works
@ParanoidPanda they aren't getting much for dinner then

@ParanoidPanda I don't think that one of them is responsible for sound notification - I guess that's more related to the browser we use and the website. :)

user136984
@SumeetDeshmukh: Don't worry, they'll find something to stuff you with.

@SumeetDeshmukh you can ping 8.8.8.8 but not access the internet?

user136984
@cl-netbox: Actually, I think it was, given the description of this one:

user136984
extra/ffmpeg 1:3.3.2-1 [installed]
    Complete solution to record, convert and stream audio and video

1:50 PM
@ParanoidPanda they are not innocent anymore, || @Zanna exactly, I also tried adding 8.8.8.8 to DNS but that doesn't make any effect on the situation

@SumeetDeshmukh :( usually that fixes it

user136984
@SumeetDeshmukh: I told you it was just a guise.

@ParanoidPanda well I don't think so - but who knows ... :)

@Zanna exactly, I thought I had the random mac address issue, but that wasn't the case, I'm using manjaro right now

but have you tried downloading stuff through apt and git? sometimes with resolvd problems I can still use apt
Manjaro must have the driver for your device

1:53 PM
@SumeetDeshmukh flagged as offtopic

yes I also did sudo apt-get update but it was giving me an error. and for packages it was unable to find them

@jokerdino you've got the hammer :P

@jokerdino what dupilacte? I need that duplicate :P

user136984
@cl-netbox: I think it probably was given it hasn't worked for months and since this codecs update it has started working. :)

maybe you can try building the module in manjaro
@SumeetDeshmukh not duplicate! not Ubuntu
but I guess it will not work because different kernel...

1:56 PM
@Zanna I got no idea about whatever you just said :P read the third point here

you like watching movies?

user136984
@cl-netbox: It is also a Firefox dependency so I think that the update in codecs Firefox uses for MP3 etc is probably what fixed it. :)

@Zanna yes, the point is building the module on manjaro is not good for me, not without help, I struggled to even download apps on manjaro

user136984
You could try installing the latest version and see. I don't know for sure of course because this has worked on and off for some time.

user136984
But I hope that this is the final fix for it to work again! :)

1:59 PM
@SumeetDeshmukh I guess you can try downloading the linux kernel headers (as a deb package) for your Ubuntu kernel on Manjaro and cloning the repo, put it all on a USB, then boot into Ubuntu, install the deb package, then follow the instructions

@edwinksl yes of course!

@Zanna let me try that, I'll just need to learn few new things

what's the kernel? output of uname -r on Ubuntu?

@ParanoidPanda that would be good ! :)

user136984
@cl-netbox: Indeed it would. :)

2:03 PM
@Zanna let me boot Ubuntu
@Zanna checking it in live session is fine right?

@SumeetDeshmukh do you allow it @Zanna ??? :D :D :D

er I don't think the live session will tell you...

@Zanna I was going to install it anyway (no I wasn't)

have you installed?
or you've only tried it in live mode so far?
sorry I'm not on your question page
@cl-netbox maybe just this once!

@Zanna I had it installed then I deleted everything and installed manjaro on 25 gb partition, now i'll install Ubuntu gnome
@Zanna both live mode and installed mode, but all the outputs were taken on live mode?
@i'll install it and get back to you

2:07 PM
ahh... hmm... well no guarantees it's going to work... But I don't think you can test this process effectively in a live session :/
OK... unfortunately I have to go to work :/
but not for long
let me see if I can find where you can download the package... I don't remember the kernel version of the release image...

OP thought we get point closing questions!

Hi @Anwar ! :) Good afternoon ! :)

I don't see where they say that...

@TheWanderer they say what? points?

yeah

2:13 PM
@cl-netbox Hi
> No @Anwar It's not a duplicate question. Maybe the resolution is similar, but the question is different. One is asking about how to make sure that a version of QT is installed properly. The other is asking how to switch between different versions of installed QT. But well done on word-matching or noticing that an answer linked to another answer in a different post to try to shut this question down to get those sweet points you love so much.

@Zanna well I'll update the question with results from installed ubuntu gnome

great :)

@Anwar the comment doesn't say that here o_O
it was edited

but I'm a noob when it comes to networking and drivers :) fortunately there are folks who know...

Who are the folks who know?

2:15 PM
chili555 and Pilot6

hmm I need food....

anyway someone here probably knows how to find the deb package for the linux-headers for a particular kernel when you don't have APT to find them for you

@TheWanderer aha! I have the old version then! Maybe my comment made them edit it :)

probs

Q: VPN LAN not seeing ubuntu file server

Dave MNewbie here. I have a question about using a vpn to access my Ubuntu server in my office. Inside my office I have an Ubuntu 14.04 server running Samba and Apache. Via the network I can access all files and the two linux programs from any computer I connect to the LAN. The problem is when ...

3:54 PM
@ParanoidPanda I come and go.

HOLY SMOKES! I have seen the light! while(true)print("Wayland > X11")
I can actually drag a transparent terminal window over a 60fps YouTube video without stuttering!
And dragging windows around is silky smooth
Dang
Why hasn't X11 been abandoned already?
With Wayland, the "Year of the Linux desktop" might actually be an attainable goal!

Any meowderators in the house right now ?

hi

I found this little question: askubuntu.com/q/779582/295286 Deleted without any trace of reasons why.
Do you have mod powers to see anything about it ? was it a valid deletion ?
Nothing special in the timeline either
A nope wait
Jun 3 at 5:05	history	deleted	Community♦	Scheduled: RemoveAbandonedQuestions

So there's a scheduled deletion for "abandoned" questions ?

6:47 PM
That's something new.

no it isn't

seeing the reason is 10k only

Serg is above 10k I think

but that's an old addition

@TheWanderer new for me, is what I'm saying

6:48 PM
scrub

I know, but newly 10k?
nope

no

that script surely deletes 100s of posts network wide every week

I was talking about when you turned 10k

6:50 PM
that was a long time ago
I think Serg had about 30k when I first got here

@Avery When you turn 10k , you get the privilleges to view deleted posts. I don't quite see what you mean by "newly", as there's no timeout
no timeout before you can use privilleges

I think Avery was speculating that you'd only just got 10k, since you said it's "new to me"

Nah, I was talking about the automatic cleaning of the posts. That is new to me.

yes I know

As for my rep, I am 47,877 as of this very instant

6:52 PM
Avery meant, since noticing this deletion is new to you, maybe you are new to 10k, because only 10k-ers can see deleted posts (I assume!)

Lol, communication issues , right ? :)

maybe I am making them worse XD

And in the other news . . . I lasted 11 days without smokes or coffee. Had coffee yesterday, and two smokes today.

rip @SergiyKolodyazhnyy xda-developers.com/…

Well OnePlus went downhill fast.

6:54 PM
they started downhill
gave up on the OP1 and 2
hopefully they won't on the 3+

user136984
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy: I haven't had any coffee for about 6 months due to some medication!

@SergiyKolodyazhnyy 11 days is pretty good going :)

user136984
It's a tough tough time, but my doctor says maybe after the summer I can go back on it.

Well . . . I guess I'll just stick with whatever Android I have now for as long as I can, and then maybe one day when I'm not saving up money, I'll buy another phone
@ParanoidPanda had any cravings ?

user136984
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy: Had, but it's been so long now that I don't have any any more, just a faint memory of better times.

6:57 PM
@Zanna yeah, it is. I was originally planning to avoid everything till end of June, but . . . I had to be honest with me, that's not exactly what I wanted, and honestly I still like that stuff ( and yes that stuff is bad)

@Zanna yeah this was what i meant

meanwhile my 5X, released just 2-3 months after the OP2, will get Android O. And Google even killed the Nexus line..
OnePlus really loves shooting themselves in the foot.

rip
well to be fair, OnePlus is owned by Oppo, which is doing great
and maybe Oppo doesn't care too much if OnePlus dies

You know, in this day and age technology gets old really really fast, plus cost outweighs the user's plea, so . . .I can understand that from Oppo's business perspective. From a user perspective, it's of course disappointing
I still like my OP2. Of all the phones I had so far, OP2 and Samsung S3 are my favorite. And of course my first luv, Siemens C65
or wait . . .that wasn't C65 . . .because C65 pics look different. My phone had kinda square shape, this one is more rounded
ah yes, C75
Ah, the memories

And at some point then we got the first company , called "Life" that started doing the free calls for 30 minutes on any "Life" phone number. So a lot of middle-high schoolers were doing conferences together. It was really had to get a connection after 6 pm till like 3 am
We used to make conferences and just chat or play music. Place phones next to music player speakers or headphones
