@NathanOsman is NitroShare gonna be OSS?

@Zacharee1 It is and always has been: github.com/nitroshare

time to release it under my own name >:}
:p
NotroShare
oh god
you're going to change the theme, right?
it's Video!

Q: Strange artifacts along window borders after waking from Suspend

Android DevSo today I woke up my (mostly clean) installation of Ubuntu 16.04 from Suspend, only to find that I get strange artifacts along the window borders, for all applications: I have an Nvidia GTX 650 graphics card, and I am currently using the Nvidia-375.39 driver. Any ideas as to what might be go...

@Zacharee1 @NathanOsman Any ideas --^ ?

it's pretty...

@Zacharee1 What theme?
On the Android app?

12:44 AM
yeah

To what?
It's Material.

the screenshots are default
I mean the color scheme

Of the app?
But whyyyyyyy?

I can submit a PR
do it all for you :p

Uh-oh...
@Zacharee1 If you can convince me there are better colors, go for it.

12:45 AM
don't be surprised if you find an iage of @Serg in it somewhere though
@NathanOsman materialpalette.com

Lol. I review pull requests.
@Zacharee1 I did all that and the ones I picked were (IMHO) the best.

hence finding it
@NathanOsman so you picked the default AS colors?

The default ones are the best, I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I find them blegh
lemme get a palette

Please do. I welcome your input.

12:47 AM
it's nice and calming
instead of that weird jarring feeling I always get from the default magenta and blue

The second color is too similar.
It doesn't stand out from the rest very much.
(The accent color.)
AFK - supper.

Do those colors go together?

I think so
but lemme get another

@Zacharee1 define "iage" ?

12:59 AM
> iage, n: derpy misspelling of 'image'
2

Good job , Zach-oogle !

Zoogle

#just_zoogle_it
inb4 hue

no

Yes . . .we can

1:04 AM
o_O

this patch changed my boot animation...

@Zacharee1 That happened to me once too.. so annoying

in Android on Stack Overflow Chat, 10 hours ago, by Raghav Sood
> In Soviet Russia, spam deletes you!

@Zacharee1 The only difference between that one and what I have now is that the one I have now uses pink as the accent color.

1:12 AM
@NathanOsman pink is the problem

Green... just... doesn't...
Well. It doesn't.

Deep purple and purple might work.

why isn't my TM working?
@NathanOsman do purple and indigo

Indigo and purple might work.

1:15 AM
purple as base

No.
Too bright.

@NathanOsman use deep purple

Not enough contrast.

really?

1:17 AM
that's just weird :p

I could live with this one: materialpalette.com/indigo/grey

Think outside the box palette.

Here is the existing color scheme for the app branding: nitroshare.net
That might help inspire you.

none?

The blue and purple.
...and white and black.
And light grey.

Brown, yuck.

Not bad. The purple and gold thing would have worked for nitroshare though. Purple for the outer logo, gold for the lightening bolt. Theme from the logo holds on the page

@AndroidDev not my department, sorry. Ask @cl-netbox

GAAAAH.
Our idiot government was idiotic again.

1:29 AM
well we've lost internet privacy in the US

It's like the US said, "hue, hue - watch us elect Trump" and Canada just said "hold my beer".

what now

Le facepalm.
Bill M103.
Stupidest thing I ever saw in print.

wat

So long free speech.
So long everything.
It was fun while it lasted.

1:30 AM
Seriously?

wat

I had no problem opening our "nursing room" at a business where we had a room for breastfeeding - so someone of whatever religion could observe their prayer times, but legislating it is bad. @NathanOsman

@RobotHumans Same here - people should be free to say what they want.
...and that includes disagreeing with someone else.

can you elaborate on this bill?

google it. parlaiment calls for legislated anti-islamophobia??

1:33 AM
^--- text of the motion
Our idiot Prime Minister didn't even vote.

Next, we'll see legislation that all businesses have to close 3 times a day for prayer times, but to be fair, we'll also close everything on Sunday, since it's a day of rest.
sarcasm

I observe a day of rest on Sunday and even I don't want to see it legislated.
Let people do their own thing.
Free == free.

Exactly so. I respect businesses that make a choice on their own, e.g. chik-fil-a doesn't operate on Sundays at a veritable loss in sales, but it's their choice. Choice is key.

EXACTLY.
But politicians don't see choice. They see money.

Just like I respect Burlington Coat Factory, for having that breast feeding room. Nice call guys. Could be more salesfloor space, but you used it for something else. Good job.

1:40 AM

@NathanOsman Only if free is a primitive. So I think it actually needs to be free.equals("free")
:)

@AndroidDev Lol.
That was actually kinda funny :D
Too much Java programming.
:P

@NathanOsman Is it only that way in Java? You mean you can do == on a string in c++?

I think so.
C++ has std::string which I'm pretty sure implements operator==.

.equals() can be done in Python , i think, though nobody does so. == all the way to victory town

1:44 AM
@Serg answered instead.
@Serg and in rare cases if this is that:

@RobotHumans em . . .ok . . .though answer on the dupe target is kinda more indepth . . .

okay, i'll vote to dupe and delete

@RobotHumans very rare case of object comparison, but i think here we have value comparison

@Serg nice pun.

1:50 AM
@RobotHumans i . . .made a pun ? where O.o

@Serg comparing Free and free being a value vs an object.

oh . . . well . . . there's a philosophical pun there somewhere, but i don't cogito,ergo sum++

If I ping chili555 will he still get notified even though the system doesn't auto suggest his name?

Nope
You can only ping in chat and get a notify if you've been in chat in the last X days.

1:53 AM
stackexchange needs a better messaging system

It's not really designed for messaging though.

SE's non social by default.

It does well enough at what it is built for.

i know, but in cases where you need to message a user who hasn't been in chat in a while or not at all, that'd be handy

Um, he has an email address on Ubuntu Members...
<--- certified creeper
Did you guys know the google anti-bot team email address is embedded in the google login page in base64?

1:57 AM
My email is in my profile, and all over my scripts and github, so if people want to reach out, i gladly welcome
plus a few folks here have my gmail, so . . .plenty of ways to reach this bad boy

Yerp. Me too mostly... I thought the google thing was quite hilarious though. Parsing divs with my eyeballs and I was all "What whitchery is this?" and it decoded to anti-bot@gmail.com or similar

grrr, i am so tempted to just start throwing everything into trash right now

how so?

Hrm. I need a 256-bit integer :P

i have piles of papers . . . on one hand i want to keep them, but on the other it's just notes and homeworks from classes that i've taken in past, and . . .still don't understand the material

2:01 AM
42

I guess 32 quint8s will do.

it kind of feels like i've spent so much time in some classes, and it all was about surviving more than about learning

@NathanOsman I don't even want to know why you're doing it that way... alright, I'm a little curious... but no. Just no

and piling up homework without understanding what in the bloody hell is the material all about

I am writing a parser for DNS NSEC records which supply a 256-bit bitmap.
It would be easier to work with a single scalar rather than an array.
But whatever.

2:03 AM
remembers Perl whenever someone mentions scalars

@Serg :(

@NathanOsman Heh. That reminds me of the AI thing I'm kicking around. Take values over time (stock data) and make them pixels instead of integers. So, you build lookback in to the value as "crossed this point today gets +50 G or +50 R". So, the AI can see movement instead of values and I don't have to write lookback formulas and have a bazillion new rows in the data set. :)

@Serg Boo! Hash!

@_@ gaaaaah

Gotta love Perl scripts for their minification capabilities.

2:06 AM
I need a serious project to work in Perl

Yes, but : asdfghjkl; also probably evaluates as valid perl in some circumstance

I only learn a language well, when it comes to writing some huge script/app

How do I XYZ? crap. better find out. <-- so how I learn.

2:27 AM
Ahhh a facebook post made me look for it... pbs.twimg.com/media/B4PRAD9CcAAQfR4.jpg
@NathanOsman found it ^

Heavily contemplating using django-ember to poke a little fun at a local js shop. I'm restraining myself.

OK this sed statement is breaking something: IF_G5=$(sed 's/G5//g' <<< "$1")
idk what, but it isn't copying correctly
aha
it is working
I've derped my scripts
no
it's something with that sed
#!/system/bin/sh

IF_G5=$(sed 's/G5//g' <<< "$1")

mount -o rw,remount /
mount -o rw,remount /system

cp /data/media/0/Zacharee1Mods/"$1".apk /system/priv-app/"$IF_G5"/"$IF_G5".apk
chmod 0644 /system/priv-app/"$IF_G5"/"$IF_G5".apk
@Serg halp
instead of moving it to /system/priv-app/"$IF_G5"/"$IF_G5".apk, it's moving it to /system/priv-app/"$IF_G5".apk
pls
I don't have much time left to fix this
gah

2:49 AM
ok, im here

HALP
pls

Well . . . does IF_G5 directory exist in priv-app ?

yes
say $1 is LGSystemUIG5
that sed should remove the G5
and leave LGSystemUI

@Zacharee1 which shell is /system/bin/sh ?
if it's dash , <<< doesn't work

sh
or how do I find out

2:53 AM
you can find out via echo $0

just gives me the path to sh

nevermind that was stupid
ok, what does sh --version tell you ?

unknown option

It's likely dash

so how can I fix

2:55 AM
you'll have to use pipe there

hurry please
5 minutes

echo "$1" | sed 's/G5//g'

and set that to the variable?
IF_G5=echo "$1" | sed 's/G5//g'

yes IF_G5=$( echo "$1" | sed 's/G5//g' )

still not working
gotta give up for now

2:59 AM
@Zacharee1 does it throw any errors ?

Nope

also, does readlink -e /system/bin/sh tell you anything ?

It should still work if the name doesn't contain G5 though, right?

Well, technically, no. That's why I asked if your $IF_G5 folder exists. I don't mkdir in your script anywhere
and cp doesn't automatically create directories
you need -p flag for that i think, lemme check
OK, so cp needs --parents flag
Try cp --parents /data/media/0/Zacharee1Mods/"$1".apk /system/priv-app/"$IF_G5"/"$IF_G5".apk
I don't know if Android has that cp flag though.
Other than that, i don't see anything out of the ordinary so far. Quoted variable, everyting seems proper. Try to remove any files that you may have created in the past and re-run the stuff
well , i am out of coffee
gosh, people are stupid

4:08 AM
I made it myself in Blender.

4:54 AM
Shoutout to @DaniSButcher for the idea, for all the Libertarian lovers w/ @RepThomasMassie @justinamash @RandPaul https://www.redbubble.com/people/caroowens/works/25774045-squad-goals-thomas-massie-justin-amash-and-rand-paul?asc=u

Worst. Chairs. Ever.
Also, need to clean up the speckles.
Ah, here we go:

My frickin' flayer isn't displaying :/
#SO_user_problems

What's with the solid color gravatars, BTW?

I'm copying Jacob
And that's what other people voted for as well
I posted a straw poll, people voted for Royal Blue

What color should I be?

Well, I would post a straw poll , but IMHO you could go with light purple

Reload ze page!
I has changed.
@Zacharee1 change yer color.

6:21 AM
Woooo, all ze colorz !!!

Just yo make the colors in avatars

Looks like a print test :)

Yup :P
Green and yellow are still unclaimed.

Oli is close, but still has some white noise.

Hello :)

Hi

@AndroidDev This is a known bug ! :) cc: @Serg
@Serg Good morning my friend ! :)

@cl-netbox morning. How's it going ?

@Serg Everything alright so far - what about yourself ? :)

8:31 AM
@cl-netbox it's all ok. Need to get homework done

@Serg Downloaded the beta of zesty and added the iso to boot menu ... boots prefectly (already tested) ... gonna check the new system later to day ... :)
@Serg good to hear that you are okay - what homework ? studies ? :)

8:43 AM
@cl-netbox yeah, my engineering homework. It's not too hard, just tedious
I have 4 bit input driving 7-segment LED number display , and i need to write verilog code
So gotta minimize truth tables into expressions and then put that into code
And I need to catch up on electromagnetic fields stuff. I'm way behind in that class
VTC : general programming question. askubuntu.com/q/896218/295286 Crappy, too

Anybody willing to check if the link is spam? askubuntu.com/a/896307/158442

@muru its aomei
so yes

@JourneymanGeek Thanks!
I had my mac replaced for some malware issue, so a bit hesitant to open possible spam links now.

(They should fire their SEO people. I'd actually be more likely to try their product if they weren't a spammer)
Hah. Dude. I'm on a windows box
WHAT IS ZEE WORLD COMING TO?

Flagged , downgoated, and voted for deletion

rejecting the edit would be good too, if you can ;p

Q: Safely schedule on time reboot Ubuntu server

lviggianiI have a remote server (OpenStack infrastructure) which sometimes I need to schedule a reboot at midnight. So far I did like this: $ sudo -s $ at 23:59 at> reboot now at> ^d However this seems not to be safe... as it happened a few times that the server got into a state that it was not reacha...

Q: Add delay to network interface at boot

user222573I'm currently working on a Raspberry Pi project, running Ubuntu Mate 32 bit, The RPi is going to be at sea and connects to the internet via a 4G router. Via the VPN network, it sends data to another computer on land which is running an HMI. Also a VNC connection is run via the VPN connection. At...

1 hour later…
11:47 AM
@Seth u nubcake
The sed command you gave me broke my app :p

12:09 PM
someone need sed?

3 hours later…
3:24 PM
@Zacharee1 my sed command was incomplete. If it broke your app it's because you modified it ;)

seth breaking zach's app? inb4 dramaaaaa

@Zanna yes, badly
@Seth I modified nothing
apparently I'm using dash

3:40 PM
@Zacharee1 Dash? On android? Shouldn't that be either bourne-sh or busybox-sh? Both of which behave very similarly to dash, mind you.

idk
Serg thinks I have it since <<< doesn't work
IF_G5=$(sed 's/G5//g' <<< "$1")

mount -o rw,remount /
mount -o rw,remount /system

cp /data/media/0/Zacharee1Mods/"$1".apk /system/priv-app/"$IG_G5"/"$IF_G5".apk
chmod 0644 /system/priv-app/"$IF_G5"/"$IF_G5".apk
for some reason, IF_G5 seems doesn't work for the destination folder
as an example, say $1 == LGSystemUI
instead of copying to /system/priv-app/LGSystemUI/LGSystemUI.apk, it goes to /system/priv-app/LGSystemUI.apk
@SmokeDetector OMG

@Zacharee1 unbelievable

that needs to go on SE gems xD
halp me @terdon-won kenobi, you're my onli hope

@Zacharee1 There you go.

hue
but do you have any idea about the script?
do I need to escape the quotes or something?
@Serg so I think the <<< does work, but for some reason, the cp command is ignoring the first variable call

3:57 PM
anyone knows how this is related to ubuntu? askubuntu.com/questions/896362/…

@Zacharee1 Yes, <<< is a bash thing. It won't work on POSIX shells. So just use this:
IF_G5=$(printf '%s\n' "$1" | sed 's/G5//g')
That said, where are you checking that /system/priv-app/"$IG_G5"/ exists?
(rhetorical question; I know you aren't, but you should)

I know for sure it exists
Because it's an essential system component
I'm replacing it

@Zacharee1 How? The $1 is set by the user, right?

no
this is a background script
called from Java

OK. But I'd still check. Assumptions in code are always dangerous.

4:08 PM
There's no possibility of it not existing
literally none
LGSystemUI, LGSignBoard, LGQuickTools will all always exist on V20s

In any case, it doesn't make sense that the variable works the second time but not the first. That's odd. You should add some echo statements to see exactly what commands you're running and what values your variables have.

if they didn't the phone wouldn't boot
gonna have to get wireless adb quickly

hi

ih

4:16 PM
unfortunately, it wasn't completely true

am left with 4point to have commenting enable.... can a generous moderator award me 5points... I have accumulated more than 30points today....

O.o

@saviour123 Just ask a good question or post a good answer. And you don't need mods to vote for you, moderator votes are the same as anyone else's.

@Zanna wat

Side-eye to the rep request

4:35 PM
i certainly don't want to be on receiving end of z's side-eye

5:24 PM
Com'on give me 1000 rep (only 100 votes), I lost my keys and have to wait another hour to get into the house, I need some consolation @Zanna

5:54 PM
I am trying to import opengpg key but get an error in the launchpad account.. Could someone help?
I have verified many times the fingerprint that I am entering is correct
It says that the key has to be available in the Ubuntu Keyserver.. And the key has been send to the Keyserver already.. And now it is more than 3 hours.. But still getting the same error message
