Q: Ubuntu server on macbook: how to configure sleep conditions?

augrayI have an old MacBook which I set up running ubuntu server for a fun project. Unfortunately, whenever I close the lid or leave it without wiggling the mouse for too long, it goes to sleep! I really just want this thing as a server, so this is not ideal behavior. Any ideas on how I can configure i...

Is it bad I know the TMO CS process by heart?

Whatever that is, but knowledge is never bad :)

T-Mobile's customer service

then it might be bad :P

you know how call centers have the automated process before you get to a live rep?
I know my way through it

1:25 AM
yeah i hate that shit, especially when they make you talk to some machine instead of letting you type numbers

Jesus this rep has no idea what she's talking about

the most in those callcenters have no effin clue what they talk about, thats normal
they just read answers from textbooks

To Tech Support!
alrighty then
disconnected

"Hi, you have reached Technical Support, how may I assist you this evening"
:P

"This beep beep beep beep beep*beep* no work!"
god i could not think of a worse job as working in a call center

1:32 AM
I could think of a worse job
working in the sanitation departments

nope, even that job is easier and ok against that

@ThomasWard yes, hi, your engineers said that the tower in my area was being worked on to add LTE, but we talked to the owner of the tower and he told us you hadn't even gone out there
can you explain that?

@TheWanderer "I'm sorry but I will have to escalate this up to the next tier of support, please wait a moment."

ahh, yes, soft Spanish guitar jazz

elevator music plays while you're on hold

1:34 AM
no it's soft Spanish jazz guitar
wait
now it's elevator music

two hours later "Thank you for calling Technical Support, my name is Bob, how may I help you?"

BWAAAAA BWA BWA BWA BWAAA
BWAAA BWA BWA BWA BWAAA
the music keeps cutting out
I'm just waiting for the Windows 98 error beep that always happens

Q: How do I install mingw-std-threads on Ubuntu?

Barney ChambersI am downloading the Bitcoin source code for Windows, and trying to compile it using these steps. I am receiving these errors when I make my Bitcoin source code on Windows Subsystem for Linux error: ‘mutex’ in namespace ‘std’ does not name a type mutable std::mutex mutex; It would appear that ...

@TheWanderer Relevant

that. is. AMAZING

1:39 AM
had a feeling you would appreciate it after your comment about the Win98 error beep

lol the rep is speechless xD
I told him that we talked to the owner and he doesn't know what to do

you have to reach out to more than tech support you know

it might be time for another BBB complaint

mind if I ask what country this is in?

US of A

FCC regulations.

FCC has to approve new signal transmissions from carriers on towers.
even if one owns the tower
FCC has to approve the buildout

it's been almost 2 years
since modernization started

and the FCC moves at snail's pace.
same with all cell providers
LTE is also not "easy" either

@ThomasWard except when they're paid $$$ to remove regs

1:44 AM
it requires a lot of infra to work proper

also, there are plenty of other towers in the area that have LTE already

@Seth :P

it's just this one that they seemingly refuse to upgrade

@Seth if you refer to net neutrality I sat down with the senators of my state already and had a face-to-face meeting. My dad's name helps me get into the door pretty easily as he's got a good repertoire with the two of em.

@ThomasWard ooh nice

1:46 AM
Ward?

@TheWanderer nah it's a common enough name. My dad having a good repertoire with the two senators helped me, special case heh
hmm, i'm thirsty... apparently all this chinese food makes one thirsty...

where are you

damn this is NJ
although the owner of that tower is going to be a senator starting 2018

Q: Running the time command produces completely different output when run with nice

alexy13On my heavily loaded Ubuntu box, I ran nice -n 19 time echo and got the following output: 0.00user 0.00system 0:02.80elapsed 0%CPU (0avgtext+0avgdata 1732maxresident)k 312inputs+0outputs (1major+74minor)pagefaults 0swaps However, when I run time echo I get the following output instead: real ...

Hello :)
@Videonauth Good afternoon :)

to you too

@Videonauth Thank you :)

weird weather here, do you have snow too?

@Videonauth weird indeed ... earlier this morning it was quite warm, then a storm came and brought along freezing temperature and it began to snow extremely ... now the temperature rises again and the snow is melting. :)

here it is snowing since around midnight and it still hasnt stopped

1:21 PM
@Videonauth I saw it in the news on TV yesterday ... extreme weather and many accidents in NRW ... hope it normalizes soon. :)

to be honest i like the snow, if its after me it can snow on :)
would at least freeze the ground properly so we have no insect pest next year

@Videonauth Yeah, it looks nice (from the inside of a warm flat or house) ... but me, I prefer summer with a lot of sun shining and warm temperature. :)

Q: Local, time stamped logging of commands from nested, loopy ssh connections

jaggiMy question is similar to 139874 but with some extra requirements. Let's say I have logged into some remote server using nested ssh connections, for eg. from local to remote1 from remote1 to remote2 from remote2 to remote1 from remote1 to remote3 and so on using nested loopy ssh connection...

At leasts it didn't sit on the 6 key. That would have been a worse omen.

Q: Suggestion: Change the canonical question for “How to enter special characters in the terminal?”

dessertCurrently How do I enter a directory with special characters in its name? is the canonical1 question for quoting problems, however I feel it has a number of problems: it doesn't mention file names, but only directory names This is the same thing of course, but I think the question title and bod...
