Do high-level programming languages have more vulnerabilities or security risks than low-level programming languages and if so, why?

I'm a contractor for a few companies. I build and host their systems on servers I rent from a popular international host. I store the system code on a popular, internationally hosted version control system. There are a mix of authentication techniques at various points, most of them near-best pra...
So I've been trying for the past two hours to SSH into my own computer via localhost. But it says "Permission Denied (public key)".
I am running Ubuntu 14 LTS on VirtualBox. Here're my current settings:
My /home/username directory has the ".ssh" folder with the files "known_hosts", "initialkey...
@Seth actually , i don't. I have gym subscription, but i haven't been there for months. Now that I'm trying to change around a few things, i plan on going there regularly. Especially do more swimming, as i love the pool amd steam room there
@RPiAwesomeness your cooling paste probably dried out and you need to pop it open and add some of that paste to CPU and maybe GPU as well. Had to do that on my old Toshiba laptop. Since I've done that - no overheating.
I love my W520. Got a great deal on it, and other than the meh battery life, which I kinda expected since it's several years old at this point, it's been near perfect.
When my laptop is used with external VGA monitor on the desk , I use this emachines keyboard I found at Goodwill for like 5$ . . . feels quite comfy . . . not sure if it's mechanical or what
man, when I feel bad that I don't know as much as I want about linux, I'll easy my mind thinking I could be scared my hostname is 'localhost' or scared with my 'root' folder not being accessable
@IanC I had a friend tell me yesterday he set up a minecraft server, but he couldn't get it working. "It says my IP is 127.0.0.1 but when I try to connect from another computer it doesn't work"
on the file '/etc/hosts' the loopback ip for "localhost" is different from the ip for "HOSTNAME", even though both point to the loopback interface (127.0.1.1 and 127.0.0.1)
and how does this loopback ip influences sudo? I mean, heard you can break sudo if you change your hostname on /etc/hostname without changing it on /etc/hosts. Does sudo uses the loopback interface? I got kind of curious as why he would need equal names on both :p
networks with multiple subnet masks still confuses me a bit for example, routing can get complicated in more complex set ups, but I'm getting a much better idea than I had before @Serg
I am having trouble connecting to a 5 GHz wireless network. I am using a TP-Link TL-WDN4800 network adapter and the output of iwlist wlan1 freq shows that there are several channels in the 5GHz range. I'm able to see the 5GHz network in the list of available networks but an unable to connect to i...
The reason why you see this is because the developer of GNU find chose to provide a "reasonable" behavior for find when no path is given. In contrast, POSIX doesn't state that the parameter is optional:
The find utility shall recursively descend the directory hierarchy from each file specifi...
To be perfectly honest , I agree with Jacob - downvoting questions from new users ( with less than 50 reputation ) is unwelcoming and pointless. It's like , you call customer service and they're like: "GTFO n00b, you could have googled this, and don't come calling us without properly spelling stuff on the phone"
yup there should be a more gentle way in my opinion ..down votes obviously wont make the person asking question feel better .. the same reason why facebook doesn't have a dislike button
That said , there's also double standard on the site. Some questions that can be easily googled and totally not related to the site , and should have been closed and downvoted. Yet because they "seem to fit" the requirements, they're still here.
Personally , I upvote questions that make me go "Ugh , this would be really useful, but i don't know how to do it myself. Maybe people who know will notice this once it's voted more"
I was playing around with the MATE Tweak tool and suddenly a stupid option removed all my panel applets and replaced with a default layout - that thing doesn't even confirm the destructive action first!
However, I do have a backup of my home folder in the old PC... What should I copy over to get...
I totally take downvotes personally, which is why I agree with the post I think... I know they are totally impersonal, but knowing that does not help me
I have an empty Dell Latitude 2100 laptop (with no CD drive) what I want to partition the 160GB drive to Ubuntu Desktop on a 100GB partition, and Ubuntu Server on a 50GB partition.
Why?
My Mac is dying and I urgently need a "desktop" environment to keep coding on a project until I can afford a ...
@edwinksl People take everything personally when they're not familiar with the way things work. Consider anybody's first day on a job. Managers and bosses being mad at one for not knowing anything is common. And naturally people will take it as "Holly, shiz, this place is horrible and everybody is so mean". Yes, downvotes have their place, and yes - they shouldn't be taken personally. But I see where Jacob's position.
I don't think I have anything coherent to write... maybe I'll throw in a comment
I'll think about it today while I'm making quesdillas and gumbo and raspberry cheesecake, and if I can write an answer I will... but I like Stefano's answer and agree with him too
did I miss any peachy questions/answers while I was asleep?
better go get started on this massive catering job : /
Well, I don't need a phone that can connect to the internet, that's not its purpose (that's why I have my computer). I just need it to be able to send and receive texts and calls on a cheap rate. Though this rate has a very expensive internet! :D
