12:00 AM
yeah guess calculating factorials ;)

@Videonauth everything in python is an object, so int is also an object . That means it shouldn't have limits
@Videonauth actually, found something stackoverflow.com/a/7604981/3701431

ok was just a question lingering in back of my head for a few days alreadyy
so ok i guess the numbers above that are simply multiple int with carry

It still is vastly different from other languages. It automatically switches to long type. Java and C don't do that

yep

In fact , I've read many times that Java isn't true OO language

12:08 AM
well maxsize is 2^64-1

@Serg E:NotQualified

but since you can calculate a googol (10**100) i don't think theres a limit

that's Security team stuff,not me
and, I think we already had this asked and answered

I didn't find a dupe yet. Only one asking for ppa security

@Serg this is something I'd forward to teh security team for an answer, anything you or I state are going to be based on speculation and not firm information.

12:11 AM
@ThomasW. Well how do we forward that ?
9
Q: Are repository lists secure? Is there an HTTPS version?

Charles MerriamAre repository updates secure? As a bear of little brain from the developer side, I cannot understand why the repository list is http://security.ubuntu.com and the other http(unsecured) sites listed in /etc/apt/sources.list. Without a certificate chain match this appears as "ask any responder f...

Is this dupe enough ?

@Serg poke them, probably, on IRC and ask them for some type of documentation for it?
I usually leave them alone though

@ThomasW. I don't know how to use Irc for I have never used one

i've poked one of em myself
@Serg I think we had a question like this that was deleted by its poster because they didn't like the answer, but this was not recently.

@ThomasW. I think after digging around a bit, I could provide semi modest answer based on a few sources. I'll ping you once I post if that's OK

@Serg sure. i don't need involved heh
unless war breaks out
then we come in :p

12:39 AM
@Serg keep in mind also my (highly speculative based) comment I made on the question
because that's me using some things I've observed, things I've heard of, and 'rumors' from valid sources
egads the blue teams are moving in!
:p
o/ @NathanOsman @hichris123

@ThomasW. o/
Happy Wednesday.

or what's left of it :P

@ThomasW. Hi I'm here but I'm not really here...

oh no another mod

Take whatever you want from that. :P

12:42 AM
just wanted to say hello :)

no
you're not allowed to say hello
ban yourself :p

You can't.
It's impossible.
And shouldn't the pun be "ban this account"?

@NathanOsman nothing's impossible

I'm seeding the Mint 18 ISO if anyone cares.

@NathanOsman flagged as OT

12:46 AM
Declined.

darn
abuse

Also declined.
If a secretary of state can run an email server, lie about it, and get away with it, a moderator can decline flags on their own messages.
:D
Sorry, I had to get that in there.

Ansor postad

@NathanOsman I knew you would eventually, I just wasn't sure if I would be here to see it. ;)

12:48 AM
Hi everyone. In the middle of a semi crisis

:)
@onebree Can we semi-help?

Anonymous
Where is a good place to buy a built gaming PC.

no
don't do pre-built

Anonymous
My father ordered 2 diff computers (2nd was better) from HP, and the QC is just BAD

Anonymous
This is my dad, not me :P

12:49 AM
NO PREBUILT
NONONONONO
pcpartpicker.com

Anonymous
I know that

Anonymous
But what he wants costs MORE as a DIY, not even including warranty

If I were buying a gaming PC, I'd be tempted to go with a Dell workstation or something...

Anonymous
Seriously though, what manufacturer makes good gaming PCs, other than HP?

@onebree does anyone?

Anonymous
12:51 AM
First time the wifi antenna was dangling inside the fan. Second time they FORGOT THE SSD.

Anonymous
@JourneymanGeek good point.

Alienware used to.

I'd consider some dell models as a decent starting point.
But I consider building a gaming PC an essential part of the experience.

Anonymous
I would personally build my own computer. But my dad wants everything packaged and ready to go

@onebree then I'd find a local system builder ;p
but there's many here

Anonymous
He's built plenty of PCs in his day... He is just tired and does not want to deal with the hassle

or at least make sure they use mostly standard parts
@NathanOsman my old workplace had them. They're pretty nice

Though I bet you could build that yourself for cheaper.
It's just a Xeon, 64 GB of RAM, and a FirePro.
Nothing else looks special.

and support

Overrated, IMHO.

12:53 AM
iirc they also use SAS drives

Anonymous
What my dad got from HP he priced it on PCPP and it was less from HP, including an additional warranty

> "500GB 3.5" Serial-ATA (7,200 RPM) Hard Drive"
Er, no SAS.

ahh
must have been ours
and 10K... and spinning rust? 0_0

That's actually quite pathetic.
They could have at least used an SSD, or an NVMe.
Yeah, scratch this idea. I could build a better one than that for much less.
@onebree I would stick to either HP or Dell. They are the only brands I have any experience with.

12:56 AM
I have friends who hate the guts out of Dell PCs and others who think they are the answer to the world's problems.

@onebree stay away from anything that's not a mini or full atx

cc @Zacharee1 ^

Someone on SU had some HP work systems with 'missing' PCIe slots
the pads were there, but they'd left out the actual connectors

@NathanOsman This one is faulty .... it comes with windows, that makes it a bad computer :p

Lol, oops.
@Videonauth You can always remove it :P

12:58 AM
If possible go for a workstation (optiplex's dell's 'regular' workstations, precision is the high end xeons) over a 'consumer' system

Every PC I've owned (except this desktop, which didn't include a hard drive) came with Windows.
8 mins ago, by Nathan Osman
If I were buying a gaming PC, I'd be tempted to go with a Dell workstation or something...
:D

A train station, is where the train stops, a bus station is where the bus stops, well in my desk i have a workstation ;)

A workstation... that's what I suggested :D

Anonymous
@NathanOsman two strikes for HP now though

nah, build your own - or system 76 all the way now for me

Anonymous
12:59 AM
@JourneymanGeek is ATX mid bad?

@onebree that's the standard standard

@Mateo That was unfortunately not an option.

full towers don't exist
I'd avoid those compact systems tho

System76 is a good idea though...

Anonymous
@JourneymanGeek oh because you stay away from anything NOT mini or full atx

12:59 AM
@JourneymanGeek Yes. A thousand times yes.

motherboard size

Your fingers will thank you.

as opposed to those rediculous slimline systems

I've got a full size case and it's still tricky fitting some stuff in.

actually
If it isn't a gaming system...
hmm

1:01 AM
I built my current desktop for a friend - he used it for a few years, got a new gaming system, and gave it to me ;)

Yeah, if it's a Linux system definitely go with System76

I've built every desktop I've owned in the last 20 years but one.
and that was a dell I pulled out a dumpster and fixed up ;p

^--- here's mine with the video card out

@NathanOsman interesting cooling system
no offense but the case looks oldschool

Where?
:D

1:02 AM
ooo, I brought my kiosk to the apartment!

@JourneymanGeek I think it's from 2003.
So yeah, there's that :D

ah
(its grey + actual drive bays with screws)
Modern systems all use caddies and tool-less bays

The screws present their own challenges...
Isn't that right, little fingers...
Here is another shot with the video card in.

A zotac video card (guesses)

1:05 AM
looks more asus

Nice Debian logo...

that turned out dark

or that looks familiar to my zotac gtx 660 i just replaced this january

@Videonauth my GPU?

yep

1:07 AM
It's a Radeon R9 270X.
I think Diamond was the manufacturer.

Anonymous
WE FOUND THE HARD DRIVE!

Anonymous
PCI 2 SSD... It looks like RAM and was between the gpu and mb

lol
nvme?

Anonymous
?

m.2 is the socket type, tho there's nvm-e (pcie) and sata sorts
and that's a good sign, those are (in theory) faster than even sata ssds

1:11 AM
eventually going to try and get ubuntu on it, but had to try the lowest common denominator to get the driver for the touchscreen working

Anonymous
yes, that is what he has.. We just did not expect it to look like ram

Anonymous
@Mateo what is that? A personal kiosk?

@Mateo Is that running on a Pi?

It is a atom all in one mounted to a touch screen

Anonymous
That is cool! How much did it cost? How much storage?

1:13 AM
It was a buyout, I guess they sold them all - mcmelectronics.com/product/AOPEN-SYS-P780-12A-PB-/58-17505
less then 100 If I remember right

> "Due to labor disputes between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, we are currently not shipping to Canada."
Haven't they heard of UPS?

might not be affordable there
UPS ain't cheap

once told my manager at ups when I worked there that if the union striked I would still work, we joked he could drive me in, in the trunk of his car

Sounds legit :D

When your debugger gets a bug.

1:22 AM
Bugception
A bug within a bug within a bug

@Serg tuhs

@NathanOsman will appreciate that ---^

tuhs ? huts ? thus ?

shut (up)

@onebree you can put a laptop hard drive in there, built in speakers, slot for laptop wifi card, and punch outs for antenna on top

1:24 AM
:)

Wut.

@NathanOsman the image

I saw it.

lol , yeah, that's a possible combination XD

Annnnyway. On the train again.

1:24 AM
CyanogenMod is too fast
@Seth train?

2 days home and then I leave again.

#Imonahaiwaytwohell

haiway lol
two too

I'm thinking about putting it near the stereo and making it the pandora/google music control

1:25 AM
@Mateo that'd be cool
doo eet

Trying to decide if I have enough energy to punch out the laptop and work on UTT.

can you also remote into it? @Mateo
@Seth punch the laptop? Only if it's Apple or HP

@Seth here's a phaser, use it instead lol. Melt the laptop >:D

Heh.

you've all seen asdf right

1:27 AM
@Mateo does the MX4 have an IR blaster? That would make it even cooler re media control center

@Seth I think USB or something IR blasters on wires might be better

So I found out that Nexus 6 now has a (almost not) working Ubuntu Touch port.

just because of aiming

I bet there is a simple kodi remote app for ubuntu touch

1:28 AM
probs

@NathanOsman ah, they started on your phone?

@NathanOsman then I might buy a Nexus :p

Well... er... I have a OnePlus 3 now.

gasp

But I still have the 6, so sort of yes.

1:29 AM
tr8r

You and your camera
and I'm almost certain an XPosed module would've fixed the BT slider
but I'm not saying stay with Nexus

@Zacharee1 I'm not sure... the new absolute volume thing is a pretty core part of the Android OS.
I doubt it would be that simple to monkey-patch.

That's what the purpose of XPosed is

OnePlus Two . . . . that's all i have to say

1:33 AM
to change the core OS
@Serg more like OnePlus Ew

@Zacharee1 It's monkey-patching.

idk though
never had one
@NathanOsman I think it could be done

@Zacharee1 you've never had one, that's why you're saying ew. it's really nice tho

@NathanOsman I have one on order. How is it?

eh, I need my removable battery and SD card support
and I like not being able to distinguish the pixels on my QHD screen

1:35 AM
@JourneymanGeek What, the OP3?

@serg just tested it python3.x can in fact even calculate the factorial of 500
but i guess it would run at some point into a max recursion depth error

I think I need to clean flash my phone again :/
getting slow

@Videonauth yeah, python can handle some big numbers :p

@Zacharee1 Just clear userdata.

Well , iteration probably would be slower but it doesnt need depth like recursion , right ?

1:40 AM
@NathanOsman clean flash is easier, since I did a dirty flash to this build
I bought the TBackup Pro key, though, so it isn't bad. It just takes time

@NathanOsman yup

@JourneymanGeek The design is nice - the fingerprint reader is excellent. The camera is okay, I love being able to shoot 120fps @ 720p. Overall it feels very responsive.

@NathanOsman yeah, reviews have been good, other than anandtech complaining about the display...

@Serg yep, in c++ i would have to get very creative to calculate that

@JourneymanGeek The display is good.
It's a step down from the N6 but still good.

1:44 AM
my current phone is a moto G with a pair of white splotches from a bit of impact damage ;p
and its constantly running out of space

Yup, you'll see an improvement then.

Possible specs for the Note 7 (look at the battery) gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note7-8082.php

thats a joke ?

@Videonauth in Java we had to do stack addition . Make stack class , then do the main class.

4k mAh ???

1:48 AM
@Videonauth ikr

non removable ???
do they begin this shit now too ?

it's been like that since the S6

well im luckily not that rich that i can buy a new phone each year :)
i guess my note 3 will have to do for a while

@Videonauth i actually found it , github.com/SergKolo/MSUD-CS2-JAVA/tree/master/hw4 The big addition with stacks , if you're interested

@Videonauth eh, i'm closer to 3.
maybe 4

1:50 AM
@Videonauth get a Note 4 and stick with that forever

@Zacharee1 well theres a problem lol and you know it

GOFRICKENFUNDME

@Serg addition with carry yep this would be the way to do in c++ too

NO_DONT_FUND @Zacharee1 FUND_ME_IM_BROKE_COLLEGE_STUDENT

Can someone call the number on my website and leave a voicemail? I want to know if my forwarding works
@Serg pls

1:57 AM
@Zacharee1 um no thanks

@ThomasW. yeah, I'm gonna send a virus over voice

more concerned about spam/scam calls :P

from me?
Skype doesn't have free calls

i know. i have $36.52 in skype credit still :)

(gives Zachs phone number to crazy obsessive cat lady )

1:58 AM
@Serg thankfully, CM can block numbers
if they're involved with the govt, they have it
