Kinda quiet...

@Braiam the question itself at its core is about partitioning. "So how do I resize the ext4 partition anyway, probably by unlocking the extended partition, but how?"

@ThomasW. Oops. Bad timing.

hmm... pokes something
throws @NathanOsman /dev/full

I'm a suspended process :P

:P

12:31 AM
@ThomasW. not quite, "How to resize the filesystem with gparted while is mounted" is a different question of "how to resize a partition"
one is a subquestion of the other "how to resize a partition? make sure is unmounted" but OP probably didn't know that
"probably by unlocking the extended partition, but how?" suggests that OP knows that there's something, a "locking" of the partition which he needs to solve first

ok, I can see that. That said, Rinzwind's answer on the dupe of the dupe that the specified question is marked a dupe of covers 'mounted partitions' - by extension it can be maybe assumed to be the same question, though I can see it going either way.

yeah, but again "duplicated questions" not "duplicated answers"

o.o
eating kittens... never heard something called that before

that is an oddly powerful description of many things

1:05 AM
and a little disturbing o.o

it should be
a kitten gets eaten whenever a mod declines a flag ;)

@edwinksl and a demon cat is born every time someone files a flag that shouldn't have been filed and therefore gets declined.

oh god a demon cat

yes those are the worst :P

that should be in the popup whenever someone tries to flag
and perhaps also play obnoxiously loud cat shrieks for people who regularly have flags declined

1:35 AM
Well, that turned out better than expected.

Q: Nautilus/gfvs: Cannot mount cifs shares using only krb5 ticket

Sebastianwe are planning to upgrade our Ubuntu 12.04 clients to Ubuntu 16.04. With Ubuntu 12.04 we are able to mount a cifs share using a krb5 ticket, without providing any username or password. HI, I am using the postfix MTA in the ubuntu and whenever I am sending bulk emails at random time the below error shows delivery temporarily suspended: connect to alt2.aspmx.l.google.com 25: Connection timed out Have any ideas ? what is the cause

@NiranjanB How much do you send?
@NiranjanB Verify that you can actually connect to the server (type telnet alt2.aspmx.l.google.com 25)
if that doesn't work, you have a networking problem. if it does work, google is doing this to you
maybe :)

Oli
11:58 AM
@NiranjanB They might be throttling how many connections you're making. FWIW you can bulk-send from a single SMTP connection. And there are limits to how many emails you can send: support.google.com/a/answer/2956491#sendinglimitsforrelay

Oli ninja'd me >.<

Oli
The limit for total recipients is quite low (~9 per Apps user license per 10 minutes) so if you're bulk-sending, that's probably the limit you're hitting.
You're probably better off with a transactional professional email sending service (mailgun, etc). Most have quite a generous free limit and if you're doing more than 10k/month and aren't generating money to pay for it, you're doing something wrong.

@NiranjanB i'd love clarification on what you mean by bulk mail but I usually make the accurate assumption that Google Apps mail is not the way to achieve it :P
(or GMail even)

"I am sending bulk emails" - might be part of the problem.

heheh, definitely.

12:06 PM
Even if it's entirely aboveboard bulk mail - since mail is mail (which is why some people have managed to ruin running your own mail server for the rest of us :( )

12:25 PM
Yay, got my Android x86 VM working finally! \o/

Anybody here got experience with pulseway?
I have one server that does not wanna work well with pulseway?

12:48 PM
Never heard of it, sorry.
@terdon We have another ps/kill question that looks like one of those stupid assignments: askubuntu.com/q/795550/367990

> "Remotely monitor, manage and control your IT environment securely from any smartphone or tablet using Pulseway. The most pro-active way to stay on top of all your critical systems." - Pulseway, Remote Monitoring and Management Software
So far, this seems like a great tool...

1:07 PM
Hi hi hi

I agree with your comment

@grooveplex On my first boot -> "op mijn eerste boot" / Sounds like to me its a driver issue -> "lijkt me een probleem met de drijver" . Sounds like a watersports site to me.

@JacobVlijm hahahaha

1:27 PM
@ByteCommander Closed, thanks.

Just saw it, I'm thanking you. :)

maybe het drijver is zinkend :D
is it the same word, or is there another word for driver?

@StefanoPalazzo de drijver is zinkend is actually a nice one!
...drijver is more "floating object"

why is it de, not het? :|
I used to live an hour away from the dutch border

@StefanoPalazzo "het" is female nor male word, "de" is, but no one knows anymore which of the two :)
Where did you live?

1:35 PM
ha :D
In the Ruhr area

Aha, that's indeed not too far.

Now I live in berlin and I really miss being able to go to nl for a day trip. Having pancakes in twente, or another type of breakfast in Amsterdam

...But Berlin is awesome!

yeah it's not too bad :)

We are currently troubleshooting some issues on http://stackoverflow.com - please bear with us if you get a service unavailable message.

1:48 PM
@ThomasW. yeah I am using the gmail smtp server to send the mails

@NiranjanB define the context of "bulk mail" then
are you talking bulk email > 9 recipients / messages?
if you're sending > 10 and less than 10k then you should probably be using a mass mailing SMTP service or such
because GMail SMTP will restrict you.
as @oli stated in their message to you starting here in the transcript of the chat
oops accidentally edited the message :P

Yeah I am trying to send 100 mails for a single recipient or more

"for a single recipient" - er... why?

and secondly, don't use GMail for any type of bulk or mass emailing...
2 hours ago, by Oli
You're probably better off with a transactional professional email sending service (mailgun, etc). Most have quite a generous free limit and if you're doing more than 10k/month and aren't generating money to pay for it, you're doing something wrong.

@ThomasW. Yeah sometimes for multiple recipients like 20 unique recipients.

1:51 PM
then definitely don't use GMail SMTP

You have any suggestions for sending bulk emails

yeah, read what Oli said, and use a transactional professional email sending service
something like mailgun or similar

But you're not using gmail smtp, are you? You're using your own MTA which then sends a lot of stuff to some gmail addresses
correct?
It's not that difficult to send hundreds of emails using your own MTA.

I am using the Postfix combined with Gmail SMTP the postfix tries to send the mails from the queue but the gmail rejects it.

2:06 PM
@NiranjanB your own gmail account?

21 mins ago, by Niranjan B
@ThomasW. yeah I am using the gmail smtp server to send the mails
I'm guessing Postfix configured as a 'smarthost'/relay like my internal SMTP servers at my home net are configged to use, via a single Google account
whether Apps or GMail, they go through the same SMTP at Google's end.
(I'm late, sorry)

just curious: is it possible to chat a with a particular person in private? Somethink like clicking on somebody and start a private conversation?

Oli
@Neni Isn't that exactly possible? I can click your avatar and select, "start a new room with this user"
(though that may be because I'm special)

no, you are not THAT special :=)

heh

2:13 PM
I haven't explored any possibilities yet... first time appearance here
:)

Oli

There made a chat box with you @Neni

Okay sorry I missed that.

:)
@StefanoPalazzo no problem :)

:)

2:15 PM
(:

>:-)

but i'm fairly familiar with dumping mail from an SMTP server into GMail / Google Apps SMTP.
esp. due to some things on my net that send email notices out
and have to go via a separate service.

@ThomasW. hmmm I tend to use thunderbird for that

(read: postfix -> GMail SMTP)

ok, got it, thanks

2:16 PM
@Rinzwind E: Not A Mail Client, Cannot Do Specialized SMTP Server Connection/Authentication Methods, and must go via local PostFix or MTA

I had to move a large amount of mails from 1 gmail to another gmail. Dumped it into a mbox. Then loaded it up into Tbird. And then synched. It worked so perfect I had to look at the results twice to believe it worked

special cases

Oh

not a case of moving messages
a case of having to send a message, from a local MTA, via Google Mail/Apps SMTP

ok :+

2:17 PM
special cases and what not - though my customized scripts all have customized smtplib.SMTP(...) handling (most of my custom scripts're python lol) to specifically use that SMTP directly, and they aren't mass mailing (two recipients, one message, once an hour if and only if a server checked by the script returns as "Down") :P

@terdon I think that's actually an archaic pronunciation or something

I wouldn't be surprised.

> Being stranded on a deserted island leaves young Hank (Paul Dano) bored, lonely and without hope. As a rope hangs around his neck, Hank prepares to end it all, until he suddenly spots a man (Daniel Radcliffe) laying by the shore. Unfortunately, he is dead and quite flatulent. Using the gassy body to his advantage, Hank miraculously makes it back to the mainland. However, he now finds himself lost in the wilderness, and dragging the talking corpse named Manny along for the adventure.

good news! As you have proven the ability to use Google, you will not be classified as a Help Vampire

I was trying to remember who Paul Dano was and oddly enough, that was the first hit. Poor guy, he's actually a decent actor.

user136984
Because he seems to be talking about something else and not actually helping me with my actual problem...

idk
I don't really know what he's saying :p

@Serg It would probably work if you remove ~/bin, log out/in, then recreate ~/bin. It wouldn't be in $PATH then until you sourced ~/.profile

8:04 PM
@JacobVlijm after reading over the .profile a few times, I think you're right. That file is sourced upon login, but if ~/bin did not exist then the line "if [ -d "$HOME/bin" ] ; then" won't source it. His issue is peculiar though. Even after logging out and logging in he still has the problem

did he maybe create a .bash_profile i had done this once and then .profile wont get processed

@JacobVlijm removed the comments by the way . . .
@Videonauth that's a good point. Might ask him

Q: I did more than 500 edits and received a copy editor

Mudit KapilI did more than 500 edits and received a copy editor badge but on my profile page It is mentioned that I did only 455+ edits and sometimes my profile page says 36k people have reached and then 56k.A bug may be?

OP is a bit n00bish . . . he keeps trying to run .bashrc as a script

well in fact you can

8:09 PM
you can , but it's not meant to be run as script

@Serg Ah, thanks. I will too. both the question and its answers are slowly turning into a mess I think. Sorry for being cranky btw. Nothing to do with you.

@JacobVlijm same here,I think there's bunch of answers that don't really analyse the situation well

user136984
When precisely this month with 15.10 go EOL?

yeah but they get upvoted lol
@ParanoidPanda 15.10 will be EOL in october
with the release of 16.10

no
that can't be right

8:18 PM
NOTHING IS RIOGHT AND EVERYTHANG IS HORRABLE

@Serg ˘_˘
@Videonauth yeah, it's July, but it isn't specified yet @ParanoidPanda

What the actual frack . . .paste.ubuntu.com/18656015

what

LOL
what the heck hes doing with .bashrc lol
or with his profile :p

@Videonauth I told him add export PATH="$PATH:$HOME/bin" line to your ~/.bashrc , then he tries to run it. Then he complains because he gets permission denied ( no x permission on .bashrc or .profile, which is OK ) . Now I think he removed that line , and tries to source ~/.bashrc
sigh . . .
because I don't believe, for the love of god, i don't believe that if that line is there, and he sourced .bashrc, he cannot find his script

8:25 PM
well it seems more a bigger problem, he probably has messed up file ownerships and content of those files
i have this open as a tab if the whole mess cooled down a bit i might wirte an answer lol if you guys didnt already by then

OK, i'm gonna go vacuum the house . . . I'll think what else can be done, but right now this is really a mess

user136984
@Videonauth: It says July here, and that's how things normally role, non-LTS versions get 9 months of support, 3 months of that support is after the next version has been released to give users the time to upgrade. They never wait until the next release.

well then

user136984
@Zacharee1: We're in July, that's just why I'm wondering, they should really specify by now.

i not have the problem to be on a EOL release

8:27 PM
maybe the 10th?

user136984
It will probably be the 23rd or something, they normally set it at a date like that.

more the opposite

@ParanoidPanda 15.04 went EOL on the 4th, so maybe this'll be the 10th? :p

user136984
But that's just my guess.

user136984

Q: Ubuntu 14.04 server can't ping or access Internet

joekrukoskyI have Ubuntu 14.04 development server that was upgraded from 12.04 a few months ago. It initially worked fine, but suddenly lost network capability. After some messing around and removing DHCP (set it up on my router instead), I was able to get some access: I can access the files on the server...

8:44 PM
@ParanoidPanda July 23rd
@Zacharee1 it is the 23rd :=)

where'd you find that?

@JacobVlijm do you want to take that user into chat and try to start over from scratch ? like tell him to get rid of that export line in .profile and .bashrc, and first try adding it only to .bashrc and open new tab ?
I can do that later myself, but i think by the time i finish vacuuming the house the OP will be gone for the day

@ThomasW. do you have by any chance a good source for wordlists?

@Videonauth wordlists for...?
(FYI on my phone so responses are delayed)

@Serg haha, I think you should leave him a message: please wait a minute, vacuum cleaning, but I need to speak with you in chat

8:49 PM
meh, i could do that

im actually working on a password generator and want to check the produced password against wordlists which are used for well you know

@Serg Thanks I got it, I edited the ~/.bashrc to the path name and it worked . — Rohan 3 mins ago

...But in a weird way, looking at a mess like this is looking at what we call an installation in Art :)

@Zacharee1 It got released on the 22nd. It should always be 1 day later.

@Videonauth I can grab you some off Kali but I don't keep wordlists on hand for reasons that they are not small

8:50 PM
@Rinzwind ah

@Serg Now try to understand what happened there :)

@ThomasW. yeah thought that, or if you have links could you put them in a mail on my LP profile ?

@JacobVlijm I think he finally stopped trying to run .bashrc . . . and actually read what i told him .. . jeeeeeezus

then i grab them myself

@Videonauth I'll see what I can do - no promises on links, but I may be able to put a tarball (xz'd for hyper compression) somewhere later

user136984
8:51 PM
@Rinzwind: Oh, I didn't know it followed that sort of pattern...

also fine with me

on the road right now so can't :P

@JacobVlijm Dont mind doing python review ? askubuntu.com/q/795636/295286

np not in a rush im actually drafting the check routine

@ParanoidPanda there are exceptions. but "9 months support" actually means that.

8:52 PM
Ubuntu rolling would be cool :)

@Serg I saw it, nice!

user136984
@Videonauth: Ubuntut? You're not joining @Zacharee1 are you? :P

@JacobVlijm anything that I should edit or improve ?

user136984
For a moment there I thought you were referring to one of his pictures... :D

@Serg Not that I see. I always like the short notation of if/else: this is that if a else something_else, but is not better

8:54 PM
@ParanoidPanda nope just to quick fingers sometimes, or something like that

yay ^_^

Today's Doctor Who episode was the one with those black cubes which suddenly appeared everywhere on earth.
Next one will be with the weeping angels again.

@ParanoidPanda could apply to me as well :p

user136984
8:58 PM
Maybe they were accusing me of typing with fat fingers... That could have been it! :D

@Serg Minimal optimization: x is None is slightly faster than x == None.
(only for comparisons with None!)
And you could do gsettings = x if path is none else y instead of your long if:/else:
