Nintendo will save the world.

Pho will save tha world

The Power Rangers will save the world...if Chuck Norris doesn't first...

1:24 AM
well we might have a reason to be saved in January

1:44 AM

@Mateo doing it right now...
@Mateo I get an error when I do it...

did you sign up for your own token?

yup

also this at the bottom " If you're running into errors, please try to keep in mind that Canonical's Livepatch Service only supports 64-bit versions of the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system running the long-term supported Linux 4.4 kernel."

Oh...
That would probably be my problem then...

1:57 AM
worth a shot
I should totally set that up on the tv computers at church

You have computers running Ubuntu in the wild?
o.O

two of them are running risevision digital sinage at our local church
I made them do auto updates, and had the program auto start

That looks kind of cool actually...

does that work with Chromebooks and Chromecast?

2:00 AM
well...
not sure on the status on that right now
they had apps for those at one point I think

I was just curious because the school was looking into doing something similar, but I have never been able to get google signs or whatever they call it to work right...
By the way if Chicago burns down tonight I am running away...

they actually sell nuc's pre setup with ubuntu as well on their site
if you don't feel like making it a "project" ;)

peeps
yall should cv

CV?

close vote?

2:06 AM
yehs

Oh they are cheap...Not as cheap as a Chromecast...
but cheaper then I expected...

the cool thing, is you can get any old computer and slap it on there

I can't mount a full size desktop to a the back of a flat screen tv :-P

there were some slim resell ones that had vesa mount that reall cheap

Oh they make their money off the templates...

2:15 AM
it's easy to make your own
they also sell the cloud storage

Yeah I see that...

but you can link local, or from another site

Yup I se ethat too
thi sis too mcuch work right now...

I had been doing a raspi slide show, but sometimes they want movies, or both, or putting in text on they fly - so this is working better, not good enough to completely hand over though...
I need to try screenly sometime

Yeah I don't know what the best answer is other then going with a commercial option...

2:27 AM
If you want to roll your own server, I tried this one once: concerto-signage.org/why-concerto

1 hour later…
3:28 AM
(Those kinds of people drive me nuts.)

yup

So apparently my laptop can go roughly 100 hours on standby.
Do not ask me how I found this out.

What laptop do you have, and where can I get one?

@Zacharee1 I hope I was right in duping this to your Q&A askubuntu.com/questions/847667/… - you wanna update to include 16.10?

6:28 AM
This is sure quiet for a Wednesday night.

6:46 AM
@NathanOsman I see a penguin... and a video camera...

7:04 AM

3 hours later…
10:14 AM
@NathanOsman Ugh, that's awful. Although the tweeter there is using an interesting phrasing: "democrat supporters carry. . . I see one person carrying a sign, not "democrat supporters".

@Zanna maybe this is topic for meta — userDepth 1 hour ago
Anyone got a meta post for that to hand?

I notice that SmokeDetector shows up more often now?

Q: Should we have Meta posts where people can vote for Development codenames?

Mark KirbyI was reading this today, it is where people can suggest code names for upcoming Ubuntu versions. Do you think we should take part by taking suggestions here? I am sure the devs would see it and it could be a fun little feature every 6 months or so but would it have any value to the community? ...

12:13 PM
@MarkYisri lot of spam today? and false positives are not super rare

12:32 PM
@Zanna as for grub-emu:

@Serg hello there

12:49 PM
@Zanna Yeah, it's like grub, but with more existential angst.

poor kid
Donald Trump's son

I'm not sure poor is the correct word. Probably incredibly rich.

@terdon lol yeah I looked it up in the end, but thanks for that, I'm glad I asked
@Arronical indeed

Still a poor kid. Must be hell in so many ways to be the child of someone in the spotlight. Even worse when that someone is both detested and adored, probably.
Not to mention that the poor little bugger has probably inherited his papa's hair.

Yeah there's definitely a psychological cost to it. Still it's fairly likely he'll be able to afford a good therapist!
I can't believe it's real hair!
It must also be fairly unusual to be 10 with a 70 year old father.

1:05 PM
similar to Boris' hair, no?

There's something a bit more coiffed and whipped like a meringue to Donald's. Boris' is just out of control.

@Arronical That's exactly what it says on the bottle!

USians are generally more groomed than us I think

As a half USian myself, I beg you not to take Trump as a representative example.

haha I am thinking purely of hair, but, sorry, quite right, I will refrain

1:16 PM
Yeah, like, my Dad is bald!
And doesn't try to hide it by transplanting his chest hair. Unlike some president elects I shall not name.

@terdon cringe

1:50 PM
Got my headphones on...going to my happy place...

:)

hiya @KazWolfe

Probably want to blitz this ASAP askubuntu.com/questions/847819/…

while I'm here, I think I just managed to destroy my ubuntu install. Is this expected (I think I updated my kernel but I can't remember much that happened yesterday)?
the message is longer, you can see it here: gist.github.com/ardaozkal/c21e53ce9f32e31b4f1b3c39fb2dea15

2:09 PM
try sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt install linux-headers-4.4.0-31-generic

I don't think so.

sorry
dont install this linux-headers-4.4.0-31-generic

It looks like you've installed kernel 4.4.0-47 and removed 4.4.0-31. It also looks like you're currently running 4.4.0-31 so the system complains about the stuff you've removed. I'm guessing that if you reboot into the new kernel everything will be fine.
@Benny I don't think that would break anything, I just think it's not necessary.

Probably, yeah. Thanks.

evening ...
first here after trump :)

2:17 PM
How is your day so far?

@Anwar Donald J. Trump for president! "We will Make America Great Again!"

Good....mostly.
@jokerdino thanks for asking. How were you?
@MarkYisri let's see...

@Anwar evening! good to see you :)

@Zanna good afternoon! Same here :)
this seems to be a bug. OP submitted the bug report here

The intenret is boring today...seems to be a good day to read a book.

2:26 PM
@Anwar do you think there could be a workaround?

I tried. But I didn't get any clue. The editor is still in development and lots of core things are being fixed between releases. That's what I learned

maybe it should be closed then and reopened when there is a workaround? I wonder what's the best things to do...

idk. leave it for a while may be. I favorited it. Hope I won't forget

@Anwar Good, thank you.

@Anwar It's a good idea to favourite questions to try answering later. I would definitely adopt your good habit, if I thought there were any question I could answer that someone else couldn't easily answer... I only answer questions by seeing them first haha

2:42 PM
@Zanna idk how good that idea is. I started using that in this period only. It can be pain and sometimes you will feel that you're trying to answer something no one bother about.

@Anwar Yeah I can see that, but I think it helps people a lot in the long term, and the overall glory of the site too.

No one would disagree on that i think

@MarkYisri so it sucked before today?

@Anwar then it is a good thing, and thank you for doing the often quite thankless work of answering neglected questions

@Zanna you're welcome :) It's not fully thankless i see

2:55 PM
@Anwar not entirely :)

guys I'm so sick
It's Thursday and I haven't been to school all week

I spent 2 days in bed :=)

@Rinzwind good :)
@Zacharee1 Hope you'll get well soon :)

wat

@Zacharee1 :( get well soon

2:57 PM
I sure hope I will
exams are next week

O.O

@Zacharee1 try reading at bed

@Zacharee1 Something ithat belongs on the Android site, but if and only if the quality was increased lol

@ThomasWard I'm not sure there's even a quality to be increased

@arda or heck, even gedit.
Maybe you have what I had.
I hope not though.

3:58 PM
@Zanna I deleted comments on my question here at your suggestion askubuntu.com/questions/847752/…

@NathanOsman no, not flu. I just almost never get sick, so when I do get sick, it's worse than it would normally be.

I hear ya.

@Arronical haha thanks, it was Serg's comments that I felt were maybe not quite on topic, but I forgot all about it myself, clean now :)
I see it is in HNQs... but the tr solution is the only one getting love, as it's the simplest I guess :)

I found all of them educational, accepted that one as I hadn't considered using tr. It does have the drawback of not being as easily extensible as yours, I could check multiple partitions with sed, whereas that tr command would concatenate the result without spaces.

4:13 PM
Speaking of education, if you ever have kids or are a parent, don't be a stupid parent and call and debate about whether your child broke their Chromebook screen or not.

@Arronical oh yes, I noticed that I didn't get a newline but didn't try checking multiple partitions... I think you accepted the best one, I'm just suprised that answer got twice as many votes as the others :)

@Zanna I do see a tendency to upvote whatever's popular, especially if the other answers seem more complex. Thanks goodness the same isn't true in politics ;)

lol ^_^

Q: Best practices when an OP edits the answered question creating an entirely new 1?

Elder GeekThis question was triggered by Why do some files appear twice in Unity Dash? After receiving an answer that was clearly correct, The OP drastically edited the original question creating in effect an entirely new question. This seems counter-intuitive to me as the end result makes it difficult if...

5:15 PM
Budgie Desktop became Official Ubuntu flavor

Yup, we heard. (Check the starwall)

oh right
I need to install that
brb

Just seen it. Was showing only 2 previously
But I can't star that one!!

wat

@Anwar you don't need to start anything. I am the star...

5:22 PM
I wonder if I should upgrade to 16.10...

5:34 PM

peek?

wat

new app. just tried.

ok

5:39 PM
what new app do you recommend checking?

whoa
apt has a progress bar now o_O
@Anwar idk what you're talking about :p

@Zacharee1 I was looking for exiting new app for desktop to try and play :)

Budgie DE

@Zacharee1 I saw that but I just assumed that iti was always there...

@Zacharee1 Thanks. I tested budgie. Pretty nice. but it was a few months ago

5:42 PM
I love budgie...

is it available via PPA? let me re-check it

it's available somewhere

It's funny that when I place the unity launcher at bottom, the auto-hide settings still says left

@Anwar you should file a bug.

5:47 PM
@TheXed against which package?

all of them :p
this new apt progress bar is really nice
I wonder if we'll ever get side-by-side installs
or at least queues

I don't think we'll get side by side. because under the hood it's still dpkg

yeah...
but a queueing system would still be nice

but software center had queue at times. idk if it's still there

well I mean apt
terminal side

5:50 PM
hmm...never heard. but sounds good feature.

6:07 PM
@Zacharee1 that's not new.
It's been there for years.
You probably got apt and apt-get mixed up.

I've used apt before and never seen it

In an interactive TTY?
Because it should have been there.

in a terminal window, yes

Sounds like a bug if you can reproduce it.

Hi there.
@Anwar new icon?

6:17 PM
@ByteCommander do you have any suggestion? I love icons generally...
Currently testing orangechelo
and victory

Better something else than this, because zoomed out it looks like codepoints.net/U+1F4A9 IMHO...

eyy
Pulseaudio EQ gave me back my speakers on my laptop
default EQ is terrible
modified the headphone preset and it's much better

wow! Victory is nice!

icon pack?

yes
It's light and looks good.

Good question. Next question.
;-)

lol

It's Java, so probably all you need is an annotation somewhere.

NO.

;;;;;;;

For me that always helped so far.

6:28 PM
I'm scared to post on SO because they'll say "just use an annotation, your structure is dumb"

Just that it takes a while to find out which one of those thousands is the right one and where to put it.

what if it is
@fossfreedom are there plans for autohiding panels on Budgie?

Also, isn't reflection one of the things one should try to avoid wherever possible?
It's surely powerful, but probably fragile...

6:41 PM
@ByteCommander i'd rather use reflection than do this...
    // There HAS to be an easier way to register all of these commands.
    new CommandABan();
    new CommandKickall();
    new CommandStop();
    new CommandTag();
    new CommandTempban();
    new CommandUnban();
    new CommandServerInfo();
    new CommandWho();
    new CommandLock();
    new CommandSetrank();
    new CommandWhitelist();
    new CommandKick();
    new CommandTeleport();
    new CommandTeleportPosition();
    new CommandMute();
    new CommandUnmute();
    new CommandSelect();

Dafuque.

yep
reflection works here.

Use Python for Christ's sake.

@ByteCommander for Minecraft plugins? kk

Use Jython then.

6:43 PM
No.

wat

Python running on the Java JVM.

Don't think the Bukkit API likes that.

v(°_°)v
So how does your reflection look like instead then?

@Seth you're a rabbit?
@Seth have you seen this phonearena.com/news/…

@Zacharee1 Yes, and it's pretty good
they actually stopped updating it in the past, but it actually got an update a few days ago

Never had Spotify. I'm occasionally using Deezer instead.

@Zacharee1 what's up doc?
@Zacharee1 Now that is something I would buy.

@Seth I found your G+ :p
@Seth ikr. It seems like a really good phone

@Zacharee1 oh that is what you mean. haha.

7:39 PM
lol
why is the Realtek site so ugly?
left-align + small width

because realtek

I'm gonna try installing their codec
maybe my audio will get better

they have a codec?

Q: Java Reflection with Child Classes

Kaz WolfeI'm attempting to use Reflections (as provided by org.reflections) to handle some heavy lifting, and so I don't need to manually create an instance for every class in a very long list. However, Reflections isn't targeting the classes in the way I'd expect, which is causing some issue. My current...

@ByteCommander, if you want to get a headache

7:42 PM
I already got one from OAuth and Spring RestTemplate...
and all that crap over HTTPS with a self-signed SSL certificate :-/

@Benny Are you challenging the Board of Directors?

what u mean?

@ByteCommander Hmm... I'll look. I know everything is definitely in the classpath.

7:53 PM
not sure if it's the same issue, but looks loosely related.

hm. they should be in the classpath. I'll look.

someone ping me
@Zacharee1 thanks me

@Zacharee1 ping

hmm
almost there

@KazWolfe What about something like javamonamour.org/2015/11/… (second code example)?
and the answer someone just posted indicates a similar problem as described in the SO link I gave you above.
And BBL.

USB Rubber ducky is cheaper and you can do a hell lot more with it.

It is actually a hacking/penetration tool, but I use mine to set up many chromebooks in short order.

Ooooohhh....

But you can make it do anything you can do with a keyboard.

8:34 PM
I thought you were meaning something like that

They actually use to come with a similar case, but mine didn't come with one...

8:55 PM
so I managed to completely bork audio
just by making pulseaudio not start on boot
so I'm going to try to upgrade to 16.10
see what happens
