yeah seems to be working for me...

cool

12:30 AM
@SmokeDetector lololol

@NathanOsman this looks intresting - they have a joke api webknox.com/api#!

1:18 AM
er, my chroot kits are all messed up :/
least favorite part of using the sdk

@Mateo wait until I finish that website :P
Then you just build and test locally with the desktop kit.

well, not sure if things are quite right on the desktop either

...and upload it to my website when you're done to build the click package.
@Mateo but those are installed by apt.

getting "This application failed to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin "xcb"."

1:42 AM
Oh, the platform plugin.

Well, I just reset my phone and instead of 900MB free, I have 1.3GB free. Performance is a lot better, even better than the improvement 5.1.1 brought. unfortunately, the battery is still dead

Weird. I'm used to errors like that on the Windows edition, not Linux.
Anyway, supper. Catch you all later.

well, this laptop has been on the upgrade train, maybe time to send it to 16.04 just for fun ;)
blah, not enough time to deal with this stuff - hopefully my desktop has a working sdk, or my old laptop - but the sdk on this laptop isn't usable right now...

I feel your pain.
That's what made me want to work on this :P

@Zacharee1 yo

:p

> this sort of thing doesn't happen automatically, and never has. We leave that to Apple.
LOL

hi @Seth :)

hi!

2:43 AM
@Seth I try ;p
1GB RAM free average is the good life :p
A little disappointing that system takes 1GB and the built-in apps take another 700MB, but whatever :/

lol

3:37 AM
That's one skill I wish I didn't have.
(Writing Excel macros.)

3:48 AM
I didn't know Elon had a sense of humour! He's great!

4:05 AM
he even added a "bioweapon defence" button to the Model X xD

@Seth he's clearly tony stark ;p

Took four days to render.

@NathanOsman Cool!
@JourneymanGeek definitely ;p

@Seth Does it work properly with the 360 player?

4:10 AM
Elon even had a cameo in Iron Man 2!
@NathanOsman yup!

Isp is blocking my port 25 again

And 587

Tsk tsk tsk.
If only you could pay them an extra fee for that.

@SmokeDetector Not a single flag from AU users? :(:(

user139252
I could upgrade to business, but that would be an extra $75

4:35 AM
Ooh. Ouch.
Wow. George's website is down. And now MySQL is complaining.
InnoDB: No valid checkpoint found.
Doesn't sound good.

In the Seattle Metro area you can get 1gig fiber for $80 a month..

Drools...
I think I could get 300 Mbps for $55/m if I lived in metro Vancouver.
But I don't.
Where I live, I don't think you can get anything faster than 100 Mbps (which was $150/m last I checked).
Internet prices are horrible here.

But that's CAD right? 80 USD is about 120 CAD.

user139252
I'm getting 300 for over $150... USD not CAD

And of course, that deal isn't available to people outside the fiber network. We pay close to $75 for 20migs (but that includes phone.. without phone it's still $60 though).
@HeatherBrown that's actually sorta reasonable.
I mean, internet is a racket...

5:04 AM
George's database appears to be toast.
Looks like I need to grab what I can and reset.
:(

5:41 AM
@Seth Yes, but with that bandwidth that cheap, you'ld lose your shirt buying NAS

Closes eyes and purges the DB...

1 hour later…
6:57 AM
...and we're back.

7:15 AM
o/
whats up people?

I fixed George's website.
MySQL went crazy, corrupted the database, and refused to start.
Thanks to Google's cache, I was able to recover the content.

I tried reinstalling the kernel too I think
and now it says "the master control interrupt lied"

@Zacharee1 you mean I no longer have to keep my wireless mouse at my nightstand to binge watch in bed? It'll just keep playing?

@HeatherBrown not that, although I haven't run into that yet. I left a paused video overnight and it didn't have that annoying Playback Timed Out page; I could just click the PLay button

user139252
Ooh. Darn. I wish they would get rid of "Are you still watching Pretty Little Liars?"

Q: No file is shown after boot. What should I do?

Lucas LisboaI have Ubuntu 15.04. Yesterday, after boot, nothing is shown, no file, no task bar and I can't do anything but entering the text mode (Ctrl+Alt+F1). On text mode, I can enter root mode and list all files that I have. All files are there, but I can't acess graphic mode. What should I do? Edit: ...

@Zacharee1 Unclear. It might be on topic but it's hard to tell with the information given.

@Fabby I'm wondering why it's bad for a website to have JS in it, when SE has tons of JS
@terdon I figured OT because it seems to be an issue that could apply to any VPS, and seems to be an issue with connection, not with actual function
But unclear does make sense

It depends on what he's actually doing. If this is part of some bash script, it might be on topic. I just can't understand enough from the question to decide.
Please edit your question and clarify. What API? What language are you currently using? What takes so long to respond? The API? The server? Curl itself? Obviously, if there's a faster server available, that will be, well, faster. How is this related to Ubuntu? — terdon 55 secs ago

@terdon neither can I :p
@terdon how do you do that embedded quote thingy?

@Zacharee1 Copy the comment's URL (it's the one of the comment's post time, the "55 secs ago" above) and paste it here.

4:43 PM
huh
How do people do partial quotes like that then?

Partial quotes?

I see people have that vertical line format, but only part of the comment or content

@Zacharee1 Then they copied it manually:
> Please edit your question and clarify. What API? What language are you currently using? What ta
Adding a > at the beginning of the line makes the vertical line appear.

and the line does in automatically?
Ahh
> test
oo

:)

@Zacharee1 Not an answer.

OK

5:01 PM
Zach, nothing new
still like this
I'm really scared

5:16 PM
I meant to ask if you had installed anything new before this issue. What were the conditions; what did you do? @AlexMitan

@Zacharee1 Oh... nothing actually
the day before the fan DID run a bit quicker than usual
I had selected a different video driver at a certain point

Aha
Video drivers

I had an open-source one and two proprietary choices

NVIDIA?

but I switched BACK
to the original

5:17 PM
hmm

which had worked all along..

it's still a possibility

I think so, yeah
wait, no

AMD?

AMD if I recall correctly
Yeah, AMD

5:18 PM
OK. Do this: go back into that TTY (ctrl+alt+f1) and run sudo apt-get purge fglrx fglrx-updates and reboot. If it doesn't help, tell me
It is possible that you'll end up having to reinstall, but I hope if that (^) doesn't work, that what I'll suggest next will
It's why I don't use Ubuntu as my primary OS currently. Anything can put it over the edge

@Zacharee1 What do you use?

ok, let's try it...

@terdon Windows, so slow and annoying, but it at least doesn't break on a whim :p

@AlexMitan what you describe sounds like a graphics issue. Purging the drivers is unlikely to help unless you have other drivers installed to replace them.

@AlexMitan that one didn't work?

5:26 PM
I'll try the purge fglrx thing

@Zacharee1 The hell it doesn't! And, anyway, Ubuntu != Linux. Try a better Linux :)
@AlexMitan WAIT

@terdon waiting

You need to tell us i) what graphics card you have and ii) what driver youa re currently using for it.

@terdon AMD generic are installed
@terdon I went through this

OK.
Sorry

5:27 PM
@terdon Ubuntu is the one I actually know how to use though. I don't currently have the time to get familiar with a new OS
@AlexMitan go ahead and try it

I don't see any mention of the specific hardware and drivers in the chat transcript. Which is what worried me.

@terdon it's right above my large block of text

@Zacharee1 They're all basically the same OS. just different flavors. If you know one Linux, you can pretty much use any of them.

I can get in with "recovery mode"
from grub > advanced options for ubuntu

@terdon I do want to try out Fedora, but meh

5:28 PM
also a purge reinstall of xorg xserver stuff might help

so I can get in, but I don't know what that implies

@AlexMitan what?

@Mateo I might have tried that too

can you clarify?
You can boot now?

@Zacharee1 I can get in and apparently use it normally with a "recovery mode"
I always could
I just found out late

5:29 PM
@AlexMitan OK, that's a step
@AlexMitan now, open a terminal and do that command

ah, maybe try the kernel back one

ok, let me get in

Wait, recovery mode as in fallback graphics or recovery as in a menu with no cursor?

I can choose "Ubuntu, with Linux 4.2.0-23 generic", this but (recovery mode), or -22 generic, or THAT with (recovery mode)

Do the normal one normally and do the ctrl+alt+f1 thing

5:31 PM
I tried it once earlier today, it was some pink ugly stuff and then booting into Ubuntu with all my stuff normally
Ubuntu MATE that is

Tried what? sorry

@AlexMitan we need to know what's going on. So, 1) install inxi (sudo apt-get install inxi) and post the output of inxi -G. 2) post the contents of your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file. 1 will tell us the details of your graphics card and what driver you're currently using and 2) should tell us why you can't log in via the GUI.
(damn, sorry about the triple ping)

OK, I need a break from this to eat :p
@AlexMitan see if you can do what @terdon days, then see what you can do with what I suggested
If it doesn't work, change the purge to install

@terdon Okay, I'm on it
Still, what does "master control interrupt lied" even mean?

5:37 PM
@AlexMitan Dunno. Never seen that one.
What do you have in /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Also, do you have an /etc/X11/xorg.conf file?

wait
I got an issue trying to install inxi

@AlexMitan that error was introduced on June 16th 2014 by Oscar Mateo. @terdon

ok, inxi is already here
but I got a thing

@Rinzwind ??????

"The following packages have unmet dependencies: linux-image something

5:39 PM
@terdon the "master control interupt lied" ;=)

@AlexMitan Um. That's not good, but that's a completely separate issue. We can deal with that one later. Sounds like you also have a dependency problem.

drm/i915/bdw: Ack interrupts before handling them (GEN8)

And for those reason bit 23 of master ctl is set and the SDE IIR is 0.

it's suggesting "apt-get -f"
I did an autoremove... thing earlier today as a reaction to these problems
I thought it was clutter

@terdon I just felt like butting in :=D

@Rinzwind :)

5:41 PM
lol
how I new that would ping me :=P

@AlexMitan one thing at a time. 1st let's get you logged in normally and then we can deal with the rest. So, inxi -G and the xorg.0.log file please.
@Rinzwind Magic, Mr Wizzard.

fix for the "master interupt lied": re-install driver

ok, thank you, sorry

@Rinzwind Yeah. Just trying to figure out which driver it is. Which should be in the output of inxi -G :)

Q: Ubuntu 15.10 installation error: The master control interrupt lied (SDE)!”

DohyedanI'm attempting a fresh install of Ubuntu 15.10 on a new Lattitude E7250 laptop off of a USB stick. The process goes well and copies all the files to the hard drive and then asks me to restart to continue the process. When I click okay the following error appears before the laptop reboots: "error...

hold on. you have THREE?
@terdon tsk!

too slow :)

unsure whether it's disastrous or an impressed compliment

watch it or I shall take out the trout

Yeah, I might have reinstalled the kernels today
...crap, what did I do...

OK. Now, I'm guessing the one you actually want is the intel.

5:47 PM
@terdon he has 2 graph cards :=) he might want the fxglr >:)

He does?
Ah! Yes he does.

@terdon slaps with trout

Oh, bugger. That complicates things.
And now I smell of fish.

ok, I'm in xorg.conf
4 sections

So you have a xorg.conf file?

5:48 PM
@terdon with 5 sections :=D

yes, there's 4 sections in here, serverLayout, device, device, monitor, screen
so five
-_-
I'm a bit panicky, sorry

We want the two [device] ones. Do they have a "driver" line?

yes, the intel one has "intel" and "amd-device" has "fglrx"

That was far too obvious @terdon >:)

@AlexMitan And it looks like fglrx isn't installed, right? Can you try sudo apt-get install fglrx?
@Rinzwind Shhh, I was showing off!

5:50 PM
hm, let's see... do I get out of this file? enough here?

@AlexMitan yes. press ESC and then type :q

@Rinzwind Who said he was using vim?

might also be obvious :=)
@terdon I did! you saw I did!

@terdon apparently I'm using vim, I used "edit [file]"
so thanks

Tsk. Stupid vim.

5:51 PM
@AlexMitan if you did not use vi/vim: bad on you ;=)

what do I cd to before that?

Before what?

before getting fglrx

@AlexMitan ehm. no need to. jusy do the sudo apt-get command

^^

5:52 PM
and if it complains it is already installed: purge it >:-D
but I doubt is will :-P

god damn, ok, so "I might want to run "apt-get -f install" because it needs some depends but they are "not going to be installed"
what the hell
do I just do that thing?

Damn. Yes, probably. Try it, anyway. sudo apt-get -f install.

I'm sorry... I don't know what I did wrong for this to happen
ok, getting fglrx now, correct?

Did you run apt-get -f install?
