12:00 AM
idk, I just copied the CSS. It's the stuff under /* Special */

kos
No I think it goes beyond my knowledge. However I'd start by creating a subset of the CSS rules including only those that affect that div (namely .btn, .btn-primary, .btn-sm and .withripple) and create a test page sourcing the narrowed CSS with only that div to see if the problem is in the div itself or in the outer context.

I removed those classes and stripped it down to the exact format of where I copied it from and it still doesn't work
I have to give up on it for now

kos
@Zacharee1 Those classes are indeed needed, otherwise that becomes a plain div, you should rather remove all the rest (of the CSS rules and of the HTML).

> You guys are excellent for getting us started and then leaving us cold when you have an obvious (to you!!) instruction that you fail to communicate: such as cd but make sure you spell the directory name with the same cases as the directory name.
wat
who would think directory names aren't case sensitive?

kos
(unless some parent block element has specific rules for its children, but well you should be able to see them in the CSS if there are)
@Seth Where?

kos
@Seth It doesn't even seem to pertain to the question...
Ah no it does. I should go to sleep.

@Seth Windows user?
@kos I need to sleep

kos
@Zacharee1 Isn't it a bit early to sleep over there?

@kos 7:30, NEVER
:p
Seriously, though, I can barely keep my eyes open, and I have a pretty bad headache

12:43 AM
@Zacharee1 Is Windows that useless?

Completely case-insensitive
I'm so tired I honestly can't keep my eyes open. This emote has never been used so literally: -_-
I can't do this

So I went to my college today . . . and in the bookstore printed out my book list for this semester. . .so apparently this time around Computer Science 2 class is going to be doing python, not java
Programming gods heard my prayers :D

kos
Crap, I mistakenly cast the last vote on this one: askubuntu.com/questions/720407/…;.
Afternoon @Serg! Sounds cool

@kos Hellow ! What's it in italy right now ? morning ? Need a vote to reopen ?

kos
1:02 AM
@Serg Almost 2 A.M. :D I'm not sure, it is a duplicate because it's a matter of changing the target file and the permissions of the chmod command, whose right target file and right permissions have been pointed out already to OP multiple times, maybe it can stay like that.
But then this one should be closed as a duplicate of this one

@kos vote casted . . . As for the sudoers thing , it seems to be the exact duplicate . . . the lock issue is separate though

kos
@Serg Thanks, yes exactly. I left a comment under the two partially correct answers so that maybe it can stay like that, both issues should be covered that way.

1:22 AM
Can I send one of you my homework? :p

kos
@Serg I just noticed that the answer to the duplicate question I asked you to cast the duplicate vote for is wrong. Damn the fact that it was at +15 made me overlook it.

@Zacharee1 depends on what's that homework about

@Serg A short essay on how the subject of reality vs. illusion in Macbeth helps support the plot through Act II

@Zacharee1 how many pages ?

These are things that our teacher assumes are possible to do in one night in such a fashion that they actually come out well
@Serg technically no minimum, however, it has to be "thorough, thoughtful and complete!!!!!!!"
Exact quote BTW :/

kos
1:25 AM
Sorry @Serg mind to retract it? askubuntu.com/questions/720393/…

apparently that means "higher quality than a college professor can produce"

O.o @Zacharee1 I don't like your professor already , but sure, send it to me, I'll take a look . Email it to xieerqi56@gmail.com

lol I can't actually have you do it for me
I wish that was allowed, but it would be pretty interesting if it actually was

@kos retracted
@Zacharee1 I assumed that you already have completed it and wanted it me to proof read it or something . . .

@Serg I have 7 others :p
and more to come!
AGH

kos
1:30 AM
Thanks @Serg, sorry it's really too late, I have to stop using the site.

I'm GOInG INsaNE!

@kos go get some rest , you night owl :D
@Zacharee1 all I can say . . .good luck . . .and may the force be with you :3

Funnily enough, the only thing I really like about English is the grammar, and she doesn't even want to teach it
:p

I think that's the whole point - you're taking a composition class. Composition class assumes you have to have grammar already in check

But I'm a sophomore in high school with a grammar test in 3rd term
sooo

1:36 AM
Well . . .I don't know what to tell you . . .

Well she specifically said that she wasn't going to teach grammar
Kind of ironic that I get stressed and anxious really easily and I got put in the class with the hardest teacher :p

@Seth Poke

@Zacharee1 wait till you get to college - it's up to you to choose professors . . . and if a crappy professor is the only one who teaches some course. . .well . . .the only thing one can do is stack up on some red bull . . . or vodka . . . or both

And sometimes it is just a gamble . .

1:39 AM
yay....

@ThomasW. shall we star that ?

@ThomasW. "Poke" yourself -- on behalf of @Seth
:)

@Serg Yes. And I'm making a Meta post

@ThomasW. wassup?

@ThomasW. many sad

1:40 AM
@Seth I'm not aware of any maps that have more than 6 players. But let me check.

kos
Maybe it should be pinned...

@kos <.< weren't you going to sleep ?

@ParanoidPanda Erm, I highly doubt they could ever log into the server. IIRC, only public key auth is enabled. A far more likely concern is an application vulnerability.

@Seth EOL date announced officially

kos
@Serg Yeah but still lurking around. You know how it is. :)

1:43 AM
you poked me previously about NOT posting a message on Meta
i was waiting for the EOL announcement :)

@NathanOsman pretty sure there was 1 that had 8. My point being though if we get it more publicity there will have to be many smaller games I guess.
@ThomasW. I don't remember asking you not to.. They're helpful :)
But it was kinda blurry there for a while.

@kos -__- oh, trust me i know . . .Going to bed, then you see a question that you absolutely can answer and then DAMMIT it's 4 am already . . . and you get up , make coffee, go to work and hate yourself all the way . . . .something like that

Yeah. I would offer to host multiple games since I have multiple machines here... but I doubt the Internet would hold up.

@Seth no, I mean, you asked me why i had not yet or if I would

1 Mbps only goes so far.

1:44 AM
@Serg :/

@Seth I didn't because the official date wasn't announced or available

@ThomasW. right!
@ThomasW. also right :D
coolio then.

but anyways, lets let the Meta feed catch up a few minutes :)

BTW, I'm now running an EOL release on my desktop :(

@NathanOsman I might be able to host something. 5mbps up

Q: EOL Notice: Vivid Vervet (15.04) reaches End of Life on February 4, 2016

Thomas W.This is a notice regarding releases of Ubuntu that will soon reach end of life. @NathanOsman tsk tsk

I AM IMPATIENT >:D

kos
@Serg That's exactly how it is. Gotta live with that I guess

@NathanOsman always upgrade immediately :/

@Zacharee1 you can host the "overflow" game if more people show up than can play a single game.
@Seth Easier said than done.

kos
1:45 AM
@ThomasW. First!

@NathanOsman when is this?

Sunday afternoon.
See the pinned message --->

@NathanOsman hmm. Afternoon as in?

hmm

1:46 AM
@NathanOsman I doubt it would. Instead, I was wondering if you'd be up to adding an answer to your meta post outlining how to set up a multiplayer game. That way we're prepared for more than 6-8 players.

Whatever that gives you.

That's 5PM for me

Or we could just forget about making it an official event, but what fun is that :)

@Seth Sure, that's an idea.

when I'm going back to school

1:46 AM
Well, maybe this first time, we can just see how it goes.
This will help us to get an idea of what interest there is.

@Seth @NathanOsman this would be useful for me, since I can set something up and have it run

@Seth BTW, can you "pin" (hollow star sticky!) the EOL notice message here on the chat?

If it's a success, we can look at scheduling another one and making it official.
@ThomasW. I can.

either the one with the email that points to the announcement email
cool
the one that's starred now works, and the meta link if someone really cares to :)
but i think one's enoug hfor now

Yeah, it gets the point across.

1:48 AM
@NathanOsman You should also pin this: i.stack.imgur.com/kWXFg.png :p

Thanks, but no thanks :P
I starred it, though.

@NathanOsman We can do that too, my only thought was without an official event (which is really just a "featured" meta Q with a date) few people would even know about it, so you would never really gather organic interest except through chat and the few meta visitors.

:)

Not that that is necessarily a bad thing ;)

@Seth It's showing up in the sidebar as a featured meta question.

1:48 AM
@Seth we could be spambots and post on the main AU at night :p

@ThomasW. there it is

Lol.

yes, there's the meta announcement

@NathanOsman ah, so it is. Not featured, but under "hot". Better than nothing!

1:49 AM
FROM THE SLOW AS SIN FEED

:P

I guess Saturday is "clean install Wily" day.
I can't wait until the next LTS. Then I'll be good for a while.

I'm already waiting for 16.04 . . . the squirrel one :D

heh

@Serg It looks like it's gonna be good

1:51 AM
I actually have LTS and Current Intermediate Release systems here
most are LTS

Maybe even a reason to go back to Unity "good"

Now all I need is a sponsor for the Debian packaging for Hectane I produced.

one is newly-upgraded-to Wily (from Vivid)
@NathanOsman debian mentors.

@ThomasW. Probably a good thing

go hunt them

1:51 AM
@Zacharee1 oh yes, I've read a lot of good things about it . . .

@Serg LTS?

yup

wat

@ThomasW. I tried to get a sponsor for a library a couple years ago and failed. Where is the best place to start?
I think I filed a bug or something last time.

kos
Yeah I can't wait for 16.04 either.

@Serg noice

@NathanOsman maybe IRC: #debian-mentors @ OFTC ?

@ThomasW. I can try that.

1:53 AM
@kos I hope it isn't like the release of Windows 10 :p

I'll try anything :P

kos
@Zacharee1 What happened? I didn't follow the thing at all

It was really hyped, Aero was semi-reimplemented in some of the betas (I personally was hoping it would come back entirely), it was supposed to the OS where MS listened to their customers, it was supposed to be really good
Instead, we got an OS that was pretty much Windows 8, but with a limited start menu
the "Aero" is just a blurred start menu
It's pretty buggy, even after the service pack that came sometime in November
upon release, the IPv4 properties for VPN connections were broken, so you couldn't turn on split tunneling graphically
it had to be done thru PowerShell

By the way, can I upgrade to Win 10 for free if I haz Win Vista ? Well . . . not me, but I'm the one who's considering doing it for my friend's Dell . . .because it is carp with a and r switched

When you want to connect to a VPN network, instead of just having little popout in the menu like WiFi connections do, it takes you to the Settings app where you have to reselect and connect
@Serg no :(
(typing on par today :p)
It's 7 or 8.1

kos
1:59 AM
Ok, indeed it could have been better.

You can buy a Windows 7 Pro key for about $45 from a somewhat shady site though
@kos I'm not done :p
It's kind of slow: the start menu can take a while to open, startup time isn't the most impressive generally

Basically I've done everything and anything I could - disable services ? check. Defrag ? check . Disk cleaning ? check . . .And still that Dell is slow

Sometimes, when the taskbar is on auto-hide it glitches out
@Serg Vista is the ME of the mid-2000s
or the Windows 8
Sometimes you can't call the taskbar up (and even apps that generally bring it up don't)
It's essentially hidden behind programs

@Zacharee1 well , I'm a Win 7 fanboy . . .just saying . . .

the only way to fix it is to restart Explorer completely
@Serg YES
I had Windows 8.1, so I really had no choice but to upgrade

kos
2:02 AM
@Zacharee1 I was about to ask whether 10 was totally free for 8.1 license owners since I was thinking of reinstalling it, but if I do I'll stick to 8.1.

@kos free as free can be :P (until July 29th 2016 that is)
If you don't like Windows 10 they do let you downgrade within 30 days; it's a button in the Settings app

I don't get it though . . .why make OS free for a year . . . .
or was it two ?

People get the free upgrade, they like it, recommend it to Mac and Linux users
@Serg one

kos
@Zacharee1 What do you mean "they let me"? Are they going to convert my license if I dont explicitly opt out?

@kos yep. Your license for 8.1 is invalidated after 30 days.
They are supposed to remember your hardware so you can do a clean install of Windows 10 on the same computer and have it be automatically activated, but it doesn't always work
My product key got blocked when I reinstalled, and I had to go through three reps and 10 hours before someone finally just gave me a new key

2:09 AM
Side rant - Chinese software makers, Y U NO MAKE LINUX VERSIONS ?

kos
@Zacharee1 Then I'll wait until July 29th to see if it's worth it. It kinda makes sense from their point of view but that makes me quite upset to use an euphemism.

@Serg There is even a special Ubuntu version for China :p

@Zacharee1 yeah, Ubuntu Kylin . . .which is spelled wrong anyway, it should be Qi Lin
Qi as in Chi , of the Tai Chi

@Serg I don't think it's meant to be like that then
@Serg Qi vs. Ky -- chi vs kai

kos
@Serg Does it have that crazy license blade1989 was talking about?
I.e. to give up on the ownership of the content stored in the computer etc

2:12 AM
@kos Ubuntu Kylin ? I don't know . . .I've downloaded the iso, but still haven't installed it in Vbox . . maybe tonight

What is the point of it?

kos
@Zacharee1 Politics. China has a known strong policy of censorship, control over the citizens etc.

ah

kos
@Zacharee1 There:
17 hours ago, by blade19899
> "Remix OS, a new desktop OS based on Android-x86 landed yesterday, but it comes with a pretty nasty EULA that should definitely be read by its users." - Softpedia, Remix OS EULA Asks to Waive Rights to All User Content

OK, I launched the installation . . . I'll copy the license if you guys wanna read it
QQ is still in wine though . . .:/

2:22 AM
?

kos
@Serg I read it's mostly licensed under GPL, but moreover the developers have an agreement with Canonical, so my bet is it's fine. I'm surprised I never knew it was so strongly related to Ubuntu before now.

@kos From what I've read on wikipedia so far , China basically had Kylin OS , another linux distro . . . Canonical seems to have created their own version based on Kylin . . .which is now called Ubuntu Kylin . . .
So far installation is no different than normal Ubuntu

grr

kos
@Serg Let us know if you find backdoors / rootkits etc! :P

I even put the z-index up to 99999 on the box and it still doesn't show

2:29 AM
@kos ^_^ I am not a security expert , but I'll let you guys know if I find something
@Zacharee1 what are you even talking about ?

kos
@Zacharee1 Shouldn't it be negative to stay on top?
@Serg Nah, just a joke. But you know... :P

It comes with youker assistant . . .that's a nice touch . . . By contrast, normal ubuntu doesn't come with bleachbit
Comes with WPS office . . . That's pretty much expected :)

@kos I don't think so
But I guess I can try
no difference

kos
@Zacharee1 Yes you're right:
> The z-index property specifies the stack order of an element.

> An element with greater stack order is always in front of an element with a lower stack order.
But you might be interested in this:
> Note: z-index only works on positioned elements (position:absolute, position:relative, or position:fixed).

Have that
Time to check out some classes

2:43 AM
I just realized something . . . I have no idea about python . . .and we're going to be doing data structures . . . stacks, queues and all of that jazz . . . . .oh, carp

kos
@Serg Implement them or use them?

@Serg is the word you're scrambling not allowed in chat?

kos
@Zacharee1 I just realized how vulgar it actually is since I see it translates the same as the s word. I thought it was an euphemism for it, but actually it is straight a synonym?

not in any way shape or form afaik
it's just something people say instead of damn
it's also used to describe something of poor quality

kos
@Zacharee1 That's what I thought, but since you brought the topic up I looked it up for the first time on wordreference, they translate it in italian the same as the s word.
So it's "ok enough" to say it right?

2:54 AM
hi @kos
what is -u option here:lsb_release -a -u

kos
Hey @Ravan o/

I would say so

kos
@Zacharee1 Ok cool because I said it over here sometimes.
@Ravan I don't have it on man lsb_release...

@kos I too don't have ;p

kos
Hey! Silver badge! \o/
And after this I can go to sleep! Goodnight all!

3:03 AM
@kos \o/
good night :)

kos
Bye @Ravan! o/

➜ ~ lsb_release -u
Usage: lsb_release [options]

lsb_release: error: no such option: -u
Looks like lsb_release takes -a and ignores anything after it.
huh, nope. lsb_release -a -u still says u is no such option.

3:27 AM
@kos I'm pretty sure it's going to be implementing in context of some programs, like calculator for large numbers with stacks. We've done that in java last semester. I dropped out of that class because of prof, by the way. This time around taking with prof who has better reviews
@Zacharee1 just being cautious , that's all. It's a public place after all. Oli even gave me a warning for obscuring f*ck with the wildcard . . . also . . .<.< don't tell Oli Ii did it again :p
Also, @kos congrats on the silver badge !

@ThomasW. Do you have a template for these meta posts or do you write them up organically every time? :P

You know now that I think about that Unix is sexy joke , there's some variations of it that basically pipe output of each command to next . . .which probably would take forever because of all the piping involved :/

3:44 AM
@Seth @Zacharee1, yeah I am on Fedora and the GNOME is good enough for my taste.
I don't do that much dev work these days so you can consider me a normal user.

Interesting coincidence.
I just finished installing Fedora 23 on a VM.
(The workstation edition.)

This one is certainly my favorite:

7:15 AM
@ThomasW. well, I've got the ITP now.

If I sudo dd if=/dev/sdb of=/dev/sdc and sdb is my Ubuntu 14.04 installation consisting of three partitions (boot, home,swap), will I be able to boot off of sdc when its complete?

8:05 AM
@KalamalkaKid Yes, you should be able to.

interesting. One question though. The boot is FAT32, and the home is EXT4. how does the dd handel different file systems? does it jsut copy bit for bit?
@NathanOsman

You're copying the raw disk - that includes the partition table and each partition regardless of filesystem.

excellent. one last question. the input disk /dev/sdb was significantly larger (250GB) than the output disk, but I erased the partition on it so the only mountable partitions were /dev/sdb1 2 3 etc, with a large part being 'greyed out' in Gparted. My question is this: will dd try to copy that empty unformatted space?
@NathanOsman
(note: the mountable space i requested to be copiued was smaller than the output disk space
so there was enough room

Yes.
dd is always a byte-for-byte copy.
Unfortunately, I need to head for bed now.
Goodnight, everyone.

8:39 AM
ok well that didnt work.
how can i copy jsut the partitions and not the entire drive?
@NathanOsman
