17:00
I'd done everything else in their tour center multiple times already and was just killing time on my last resort thing.
my conclusion from the facts: Cute animal as avatar + likes face to be scanned = Girl!
:D
@Fabby most teanagers get acne so... not really conclusive.
@Fabby AHA! YOU FIND IT CUTE! @Fabby proven to be a girl.
@RPiAwesomeness You could have come in and answered some questions...
@RPiAwesomeness: no, I'm just gay! ;-) :P
@Fabby No I couldn't - I didn't have a phone with connection.
@Fabby Whoa...
Actually, I don't have a phone period.
17:01
@Mateo: Did you see my message to nathan?
about the appindicator?
that is an interesting problem
nah! First answer on AU where nitroshare is the solution!
ah, cool.
I think I tried a few of those with v.2, but the memory bug...
so v3 is going to be amazing!
@Fabby Had I more time I would have set up the matrix effect as a batch file, but by the time I had figured out how to launch the command line & keep it up above flash player I had to go
@ echo off
color 0a
:a
echo %random%%random%%random%
%random%%random%%random%
%random%%random%%random%
%random%%random%%random%
%random%%random%%random%
%random%%random%%random%
goto a
(shake)
17:04
but we are waiting on the cmake release before I build the mac version
You're the "help wanted"?
>:)
I have a mac, and I did some of the porting on v.2 and packaged it for mac
so, going to have this one a go as well
I wonder what their IT department is gonna be like when they find it...
Or rather, what their IT department was like when they found it.
Mmmh, because when I filed my first bug, I thought I saw "help wanted" for a mac version...
I basically just hit random buttons, then delete some random code.
then see if it works again ;)
17:07
Have you ever heard of the BSOD screen saver?
(If my memory still serves me right by Marc Russinovich)
but, I'm sure if someone had skills using xcode, and the mac store - it would be way better than what i'm doing
I stay away from any Apple products as much as I can...
@Fabby Why?
Other than price :P
The last good computer Apple made was made by the other Steve...
@Fabby lol
17:09
because it won't have the mac prefrence pane, or be "signed" so you have to turn off a certain level of security now on macs to run unsigned programs.
How much does signing cost nowadays?
too much.
Why doesn't Github or SourceForge get a signing authority???
used to be you just needed a mac to be a mac developer
Used to be you needed a piece of paper and a pencil to be a DOS developer...
(and a PAIR OF ROCKS!) ;-)
17:11
then they did $100, flat entrance fee. now it is a fee that you pay over and over.
back in my time, we had CP/M and rocks! :D
Yearly, right?
and if you don't pay up, all of your previous stuff gets revoked, no?
don't know the details, looked into it at the beginning, and was like "um, no."
Someone asked me if I could develop an app for them... (something simple)
@Mateo Isn't that the whole Apple developer thing? :P
yeah...
17:12
It's annoying all right. $100 a year just to post apps is nothing to sneeze at.
back with snow leapord you could do opensource on it no problem
anyone familiar with selinux here?
This is AskUbuntu...
17:13
i got a problem
yes ubuntu is linux right?
We're very good at removing seLinux...
how do u do that?
i cant even install mysql with this selinux shet
Remove selinux?
yes
mysql install keeps saying errno 13
haha, if it isn't your computer this might be a problem...
selinux is just a disease in linux
Ah! that's a permission denied!
ye , denied everywhere
I dunno. I use Ubuntu
thats a pain
17:15
plus wansn't there a problem installing selinux on Ubuntu? or did they fix that...
I keep plain, old vanilla Ubuntu...
usually you don't setup selinux on Ubuntu, since it uses policykit
only nemo is a bit exotic...
Hrm. There appears to be a bug in Audacity where if you pause/unpause too quick it freezes
That's why I gave him the download/install link.
17:17
hm,
@RPiAwesomeness: I just use VLC for everything... KISS and all
> The Ubuntu-specific "selinux" and "selinux-policy-ubuntu" packages documented here have not received much attention since Karmic, and appear to be effectively broken in Precise.
@Fabby But you can't edit audio with VLC
Audacity can?
@Fabby Yeah...that's what audacity does.
Your thinking of Audacious
17:19
hm
so basically what he said:
If you wist to use selinux, I highly advise you use Fedora. selinux is maintained in Fedora, active by default, and there are a greater number of tools to manage selinux, both graphical and command line. If you wish to use Ubuntu, as suggested, use Apparmor. both tools have a bit of a learning curve and both have advantages and disadvantages. — bodhi.zazen Jun 10 '14 at 15:23
@RPiAwesomeness: Cool, thanks... I think I'm going to make my sister's eldest a bit more happy! I only gave him Mixxx and some ripping software on his Lubuntu machine...
(and minidlna...)
@Fabby Oh, does he do audio editing?
He's 11...
he plays with Mixxx and rips his own CDs...
Gotta go!
start cooking!
(well... cooking: the GF wants salad tonight...)
@Fabby Ah :)
17:46
Hrm...I need to make an outro clip background...time to break out my graphical design skills...
@HackToHell Haven't seen you around for a while :) o/

Q: Adware woes on unbuntu 12.04

Bret BrewsterI am having trouble with adware specifically the update adobe required, I know its something dumb I did. Being kind of a beginner I would like to see if anybody has a way to find and remove this pain in the behind. I did run clam av with 0 results, any ideas for this old cowboy? In more detail ...

Well...this guy needs to learn some manners. Gosh
18:01
@RPiAwesomeness \o
@Fabby: obligatory upvote on your answer :)
:D :D :D
@RPiAwesomeness are you going to do funny endings after your outro, I like those.
(and my first bug filed...)
@Mateo I'll try :) That's actually a really great way to boost your visibility on Youtube. Youtube bases their algorithms quite heavily around how much of your video the viewers actually watch.
TheWarOwl is quite good at those :)
18:10
I've just found a very useful feature in GIMP: brush jitter
@RPiAwesomeness Hello
@Whaaaaaat o/
I was trying to download LoL on a 60kb/s connection.
so i know your crap internet pain
@Whaaaaaat :) I see
18:16
UT phone? HYPEHYPEHYPEHYPE
and, of course, the one with the edge:
so, yeah. looks like they finally added gestures for tabs on the browser, going to have to see if they pushed that yet
I wish I had time to port it to my Nexus 6... :(
@NathanOsman I should be sniping a 7 today
A Nexus 7?
Wut...Ubuntu has a Youtube channel? I did not know this. SUBBED!
18:22
@NathanOsman yep
there are these every week as well @RPiAwesomeness youtube.com/user/UbuntuOnAir
(not gon link it cuz a certain someone [@RPiAwesomeness] will snipe it just to screw with me)
Okay. Why the hell does PS hate my graphics drivers?
micheal and popey talk about everything going on and answer questions
@Whaaaaaat Eh?
@Whaaaaaat Oh, lol ;)
I won't snipe you. I don't have the cash :P
@Fabby: I replied to your bug report as well.
18:29
@RPiAwesomeness if you could, you would.
@Whaaaaaat Nah. I'm not that evil
okay wtf
does photoshop not have a line tool?!
oh i feel stupid
what color (not green, green would be bad in this case) would be a good compliment to this?
@Whaaaaaat Are you messing with Minecraft again?
yes
namely, forum signatures
18:36
A light purple? A bit of grey?
hmm
i'll look at that later
@Fabby Yes. My DATA partition is still NTFS
@blade19899 please tell me that that isn't your Linux data partition
@Whaaaaaat Two partition 1 ext 4 for Ubuntu, second is ntfs for my DATA partition. Windows can't read ext. So, just in case I'm at a windows machine, and i need it to recover something with it.
18:58
@blade19899 my windows can read hfs and ext
That's pretty nice.
Thanks :)
anyone know how dangerous a non-OEM (or generic) Qi charger is?
Bit too much Bokeh IMO
19:06
@RPiAwesomeness you're making that?
Eh, first one is still better.
@Whaaaaaat Yeah
@RPiAwesomeness stop showing off :P
@Whaaaaaat ;)
i really need to learn PS/Ill/GIMP/Blender/whatever
@blade19899: then you should definitely read this one:
19:07
@Whaaaaaat GIMP
rrr ebay, i don't trust you

Q: How to efficiently partition a single Windows-Ubuntu dual boot disk

FabbyThis is not a question on how to install Ubuntu or how to use manual partitioning during installation but is a question on access rights and how not to let them bite you in the lower abdomen... ;-) This question will not help you how to make partitions on your disk, but will tell you what to do...

i need a Qi charger, but I think non-oem ones are dangerous?
19:10
"It's a easy tutorial and I think u can do it in 10 minute..Click the image for larger view."
"I think u can do it in 10 minute"
/me clicks away
@NathanOsman thanks, reply sent. One fair bit of warning: I'm anally retentive about security, so I always run as a normal; unprivileged user... (I tend to forget to mention that) Trying admin user and sudo in the next few minutes...
@Whaaaaaat ;) It took me a little bit more than 10 minutes to achieve that, but that's because I was being a bit of a perfectionist. It's actually pretty simple to do.
@Fabby you're security conscious?
what firewall do you use?
@Fabby It's okay. It should run fine as a normal user.
@RPiAwesomeness stop being perfect.
19:11
Whoa.... O.O
That's what happened when I changed the background from solid black to a dark grey
Actually kinda cool...
oh ik why that is
@Whaaaaaat I have a universal charger from a few mA to 5A and it connects to everything and I have never burnt anything out (though my GF has...)
@Whaaaaaat \o/ You're not stupid! You have just won the 47th internet Not Stupid award!
hmmm
i'm just skeptical about Qi chargers.
@RPiAwesomeness only 47? wow...
@Whaaaaaat No, I'm anal about it... :P
19:13
@Whaaaaaat Yeah. It's pretty rare
@Fabby what's you password change rate?
and how often do you cycle your SSH keys (and what size are they?)
@Whaaaaaat NAT and ufw...
have you fail2ban configured?
once every 3-6 months password change rate.
Lemme look at my keyring...
lol really? i'm on a 2-week cycle, with 32KB ssh keys cycled at the same time
19:16
Hrm. Interesting...dunno if I'd use it or not...
2 weeks? You're worse then me! I've got an algoritm and can go back 20 years in my head though...
If I give you a password protected back-up that's 10 yeas old, can you still remember the password?
i don't have a password algorigm
Hehe...I'm terrible about that. I almost never change my password :P
but i can remember passwords
I really ought to...
19:18
but really. 32kb ssh keys.
So the answer to the 10-YO back-up is "Yes!"???
if the password is worth something, yes.
but i'd probably cycle it with my other passwords
I'm impressed. Mine is 2064 bytes...
it can take up to an hour to generate those puppies
But I can't find the exact date but it's between 1-2 months...
Yeah and the entire life of the universe to crack them
(with current technology)
19:20
my thing should be okay until the current supercomputer can fit into my hand.
snipe in 20 minutes.
o/ @Rinzwind
Logging off. Testing Nitroshare... C U L8R
19:42
SCHNIPED
THE HECK JUST HAPPENED THERE?
I just got shocked through my earbuds...
There was static, and a zap..
Strange stuff
Granted, they are metal, so it could've been static electricity from my siblings who ran by right then
I hate my tiny room :P
Approaching Nirvana makes some awesome instrumental dubstep...great for intros/outros :)
19:51
@RPiAwesomeness: better a tiny room then a tent and a hole in the ground!
(you kids nowadays: back in my time, we only had caves!)
@Fabby facepalm Grandpa, go back to your rocker
:D
I present to you...a panda bear with a mustache:
why do no cell carriers offer unlimited tablet 4g?
20:26
@Whaaaaaat I have a carrier that offers unlimited data on their HSDPA+ network.
Their more expensive plans even include unlimited roaming in the US.
user image
3
@Whaaaaaat because people abuse "unlimited".
@NathanOsman What do they charge for that?
I'm paying $30/m for unlimited data. Fair warning: it is throttled after 5GB, but still technically unlimited.
I believe the cheapest you can get it around here is $30 max.
Oh neat, that's not bad.
That includes calling and SMS too.
I don't use my phone much so I just get cheap prepaid. The nice thing is I get to use Verizon's network which has the best network coverage in the US (except my house, incidentally).
20:31
The one downside is that the company doesn't offer very good coverage.
@NathanOsman That's a pretty slick deal.
I can get unlimited everything for $25 a month but that is only 3G data.
I've got a grandfathered $30/m plan roughly equivalent to the new $35/m plan.
That's pretty nice!
They offer up to date phones too.
I bought mine outright and then got a credit for "bring your own phone".
20:47
I pay 10$/month for 50Mb/s (Ethernet Half Duplex)
>:) And now RPiAwesomeness is going to have a fit again!
3... 2... 1...
:D
I'm pretty upset myself.
Broadband is waaaaaay overpriced here in Canada.
21:17
...and apparently, so are MSDN subscriptions.
FIIIIIITTTT!!!!
BizSpark looks like a good deal if I incorporate.
@Fabby :D
:) ;-)
21:38
@NathanOsman Take one course at a community college for a .edu email and the dreamspark bundle is free.
I don't think Canadians can get .edu emails, can they?
I'm not sure. If they can't, I can see about auditing a course here, so I don't get a grade, but I do get an email... or do something distance ed at a US community college.
If the college you chose is a subscriber you get LOADS of stuff through the MSDNAA
@Fabby fore? :P
21:42
@Seth: Does it mean anything rude? (typing in the dark with screen as only illumination)
@Fabby Nah, it's what you yell before hitting a golf ball ;)
@Fabby Naw, just the wrong word ;)
Ah² ;-)
(also, backlit keyboard ftw!)
Yeah, that's on the list for the next laptop! ;-)
21:44
When on trips, I used to have a little USB lamp with a flexible neck that I could point at the keyboard.
The trick was to keep it from adding screen glare :P
I lost mine!
Oh, and it didn't exactly help the battery either.
I got it for free with my previous HP laptop...
It was 1 white LED light...
didn't make any difference to battery life!
In school all the keys were whited out, so you couldn't hunt and peck. You just got good at keyboarding because you HAD to
maybe my school was weird
That sounds like a good way to do it.
21:46
It does, actually
Yeah. I never look at a keyboard. Ever.
I can touch type reasonably well, but I'm sure if I whited out the keys I could do it much better :P
I rarely have to look at the keyboard. If I ever do it's because I'm using a new PC or I'm using one in the dark or at a weird angle.
I'm not too bad on a familiar keyboard. I can type without looking.
The only thing that messes you up is when you change keyboards and the periphery keys change shapes. Like the move on enter/slash/etc.
21:47
@NathanOsman that --^
@hbdgaf or when they shrink certain keys..
Yeah, my other keyboard has delete in a really weird place.
Hmm....not quite
Bokeh spots especially look strange at that size
It looks interesting. Not something I would personally use, but if I saw it on someone else's I'ld think it was cool.
@hbdgaf Yeah. I kinda like it, but because of the size it is the faux bokeh spots look quite bad :P
Low-res pre-render of what I'm actually using it for...
Website background?
21:55
@hbdgaf No, Youtube video closer
Just trying to find good music to play over it...
Ah. When I saw previous video, I thought of a skin for a webpage that let you navigate a set of videos.
@RPiAwesomeness most everything on newgrounds is CC-SA or CC-Attribution
I'll be SOOO glad when lxqt hits main/stable. I'll re-install the lappie with just that and kwin to force myself to learn pyqt5/qt5 if I want anything with a user interface that doesn't exist or exists, but I don't like it.
@hbdgaf Hmmm. I'll look there after listening to Approaching Nirvana. They've got the best instrumental dubstep/EDM
