@ParanoidPanda : checked again : and ... the next 10 points ! :)
user136984
@cl-netbox: :)
@ParanoidPanda :)
user136984
By the way, serial voting is reversed. :P
user136984
So don't just upvote loads of my stuff! :D
user136984
Unless those upvotes weren't from you.
user136984
16:03
:)
user136984
I think it's counted as serial once you have given about 4 in a short period of time on older questions/answers of a specific user.
@ParanoidPanda HAHAHA - what ? ... 3 upvotes for 3 fantastic and accepted answers ??? Justified and so ... they will not be reversed - NEVER ever ! =)
user136984
:D
user136984
Just saying, if you do it too much, the system will reverse it. For instance when I got to 3k the system caught up with someone who had been giving me about 300 rep or so over many months... And it all got reversed immediately as I got all my 3k privileges! :D
@ParanoidPanda yep - the stackexchange system takes a dim view of voting between friends
can result in lengthy bans
16:09
@ParanoidPanda Please don't worry ... again : it was just 3 ... for good and accepted answers and a contribution to keeping you motivated ! :)
"contribution to keeping you motivated" ... not a good reason
@fossfreedom yes I know ... but good answer is - right ? :)
good answer ... if you found it useful
how do I change the premissions of this directory so I can work with it.
/var/www/pihole
via ssh
user136984
@Nathan: Do you get email updates or something with the bug reports for your projects on GitHub? I mean, when I create a report there, are you likely to see it soon?
user136984
16:13
:)
@ParanoidPanda all project owners get emails ... unless they have chosen not to receive notifications

Q: Why is this comment not obsolete?

AnastasiaLink to the comment A user made a guess (a correct one), requested some additional information, then the same user wrote a full reponse containing the comment, albeit not word by word. Isn't this obsolete, as it is redundant given the answer posted below?

@ParanoidPanda @cl-netbox Thanks for the congrats! Didn't take me too long, just a few years. Recently did a lot of answers though xD
@ThomasW. well done anyway ... :)
16:24
@cl-netbox well done, @ThomasW. Where? :)
Nice job Thomas :)
@A.B. 20k here on Ask Ubuntu :)
@A.B. he passed 20000 ! :)
@Seth time to lock all the questions >:D

16:25
@Seth Hello :)
I see. 20k great! @ThomasW.
(now i have tag wiki edits, which means faster fixing of thigns xD)
@cl-netbox Hi!
@Seth How does it feel after being an official ubuntu member for some days now ? :)
@cl-netbox pretty good :)
16:28
@Seth Great to hear this ! :) You can be proud ! :)
:D
Flowers for @Seth :D
@A.B. Do you think @Seth is a lady ? =) ... look at his profile ... ! ... nice hair !!! =)
lol
@muru thank you for the -m1
Only ladies become flowers?
16:42
@A.B. I think @Seth prefers something else ... :)
kos
kos
@A.B. I pushed my last update for the day (it passes all the test in the question!), when you want is there :)
@A.B. and one thing : how do make ladies BECOME flowers ? Do you have a transformation script ? ... if not : ask @kos or @Serg or ... perhaps @Seth himself to write it for you ! HaHaHa :D
kos
kos
@cl-netbox Transform ladies?
A.B. was using a different meaning of the word become :)
16:46
@kos great :) pushed on GitHub?
@Serg and @kos. Yes. A script flowers-for-seth. :D
@kos pushed on AU as well ?
^^^^ @cl-netbox @Seth
@A.B. NICE ! :)
this is starting to get weird haha
The scripting guys take over !!! =)
kos
kos
16:50
@cl-netbox I don't fully understand what's going on, but well!
@A.B. Yes, fixed, shortened and polished. :D
@kos Don't mind ... just kiddin' ... bringing back some humor back to this room ... as my friend @Fabby is missing ... more and more ... :)
kos
kos
@Seth By the way when tags are synonmized isn't the score for the master tag recalculated based on the merged synonym and the score for the synonym set to 0? I saw no change after the "massive" merge of yesterday
@cl-netbox Yeah, but I don't get how you started offering flowers to Seth! :D
@kos ME ??? It was my friend @A.B. !!! =) start reading here : chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/25735786#25735786

@kos ???
Ah English. Thou art confusing.
kos
kos
@cl-netbox I mean, not the courtesy form for a single person.
@kos no, because the synoynmized tag still exists on questions. They haven't been merged, just linked so new questions are redirected to the new tag.
@kos looks great after some tests =)
@kos AND NOW write your answer =)
kos
kos
@Seth Ah, makes sense, thanks.
@A.B. I don't know maybe tomorrow. I'm kinda exhausted by that script. :D
17:00
@kos : yes - do it - write this ... answer ... now ! :)
kos
kos
No, ok, on a second thought I'll add it know. :D I also commented it so there's not too much need for explanations
@Seth iptables ... may I ask you something
kos
kos
@A.B. By the way you should really get the grml zsh .zshrc: it's great and with GitHub it's also added coolness
I'm using ... @kos, wait
@ByteCommander o/ =)

@A.B. Cool. How does it do at completions?
87% it's the battery?

@kos I miss nothing

No CPU usage, sorry.
@kos no, CPU
Why is that not correct:
sudo iptables -I INPUT -s 6.6.6.6 -j MARK --set-xmark 1234567812345678/0xffffffffffffffff
iptables xmark supports 64-bit

Here's what you get with grml:
@kos the error thing is nice =)
kos
kos
Yeah :D the only problem is when you want to copy an output, but well
17:11
@kos yes, thats correct =)
@A.B. I'm not really that knowledgeable about iptables, but you can try :)
for some reason I'm not hearing the ping sound..
@Seth This changelog says, set-xmark supports 64bit values lwn.net/Articles/89814
But it doesn't work sudo iptables -I INPUT -s 6.6.6.6 -j MARK --set-xmark 1234567812345678/0xffffffffffffffff
hmm.. I really don't know, sorry :/
@Seth =) Thank you
I can't find anything related to --set-xmark in the manual either
@A.B. you might ask on the main site.

Sintax highlighting for Perl is broken...
@Serg lshw comes to mind... And there is a special distro that does stress testing, but that's not really what you're looking for, is it?
@cl-netbox :P
Rain dance time!
@Fabby Welcome back my friend ! :)
@Fabby =)
@Fabby o/

@cl-netbox :-)
Oh and if anyone has an interesting question and it needs a boost: tell me; I'm not interested in going to 100K: I'll be giving away all my rep above 25K anyway, so lots of bounties!
@Fabby i'm interested in going to 50k =)

If I'm getting interference on some wires that are wound in a loop, would unwinding them make any difference likely?
how much winding we talking about here? I'm a bit skeptical that would cause an issue
It's about 2-3 feet of audio cable.
@NathanOsman could be a break in the cable then?
I just bought a 5.1 speaker set and I'm getting interference from something.
When I disconnect power to the router, the interference stops.
wouldn't hurt to try unwinding, is any of it laying a power adapter?
@NathanOsman ah, there you go
17:57
It's all on top of the surge bar, could that be causing it?
I don't have a lot of room to work with :P
try picking up bits, see if it gets better
Anyway, that one sounds fixable. Problem number two: getting 5.1 sound in Ubuntu :)
vlc, and sound preferences
all the wires are mixed together? Try to isolate your speaker wires from the rest
I don't know whether PulseAudio is being mean to me or ALSA is being mean to me - but I can't seem to configure either for 5.1 playback.

optical, coax, or separate 3.5 jacks
Separate 3.5 jacks.
It works perfectly in Windows.
So I'm assuming the wiring is correct.
there should be a drop down in the settings
There is but only stereo options are available.

what company is the chip?
Realtek.
It's on an ASUS F2A55-M LE.

user107829Having an issue with sound at the moment. I am trying to configure my 5.1 surround sound but it will only work on the Front left and Front right speakers. Q: SD Card Reading/Writing Works Under Windows, But Not Ubuntu

BorWalI own a laptop with a built-in card reader. For the past year or so, I've been coping with a curious problem that seems more software related than hardware. I run a dual-boot of Windows 8 and Ubuntu 14.04. Under Windows, the SD card works just fine. It runs somewhat slow, but it always manages t...

@Mateo Sorry, I was oblivious to the fact that another problem was being diagnosed. Just needed to get a weight off my chest.
@ByteCommander Is there no better answer?
Creating a custom theme with Inherits= is a good idea, but not explained
Don't know, I did not invest too much time in it... That question just appeared in the "Related" bar.
Guys do you know what app is that? s0.cyberciti.org/uploads/tips/2007/04/…
Hardware information GUI tool

Under Ubuntu or any other Linux distro, you can open hardware information GUI tool by clicking on:
System > Preferences > Hardware information
Sorry for promoting this, but it's a really good script

@GeoMint do you know anything?
@kos git pull
@A.B. look my question please
@GeoMint sorry, which question?
18:34
@GeoMint I know this thing ...
man, questions like this remind me why I didn't like "high school math" in the US: matheducators.stackexchange.com/questions/10094/…
@A.B. i did "sudo apt-get install hardinfo" but it is different than that in image

@A.B. The latest version doesn't have that problem, did you pull before sending the pull request?
@GeoMint udev-discover?

@GeoMint yes, same here :\

i have hardinfo for now. i just want to see my graphics card memory
Anyone here good in interpreting bootcharts?
I've just made one and the stuff that takes most time according to it are:
     10.467s gpu-manager.service
      9.963s dev-sda6.device
      9.328s accounts-daemon.service
      9.275s ModemManager.service
      8.998s NetworkManager.service
      8.622s thermald.service
      8.412s preload.service
      8.284s grub-common.service
      8.033s irqbalance.service
      7.332s systemd-fsck@dev-disk-by\x2duuid-B148\x2d49F9.service
      7.269s alsa-restore.service

      7.211s ondemand.service
      7.210s avahi-daemon.service

Why do I have a ModemManager running?
I have Internet access via LAN only, so do I really need that?

@A.B. I can't understand, did you send the pull request to the master branch?
I have edited the script direct on GitHub @kos

@A.B. Ok, then you probably edited the old version. I have to decline it otherwise it reverts everything (I guess?)

@Mateo a million thanks! That worked!
It was alsamixer that needed configuring.

I need to edit a file in it...

You could change ownership to yourself... would that work?
but it won't let me because of a permissions error
Maybe we can try
sudo chown -R you:you /var/www/pihole
Replace "you" with your username.
@NathanOsman looks like that worked. Enjoy your brunch!
Thanks!

A new method of delivering data, which uses the visible spectrum rather than radio waves, has been tested in a working office.

Li-fi can deliver internet access 100 times faster than traditional wi-fi, offering speeds of up to 1Gbps (gigabit per second).

It requires a light source, such as a standard LED bulb, an internet connection and a photo detector.

It was tested this week by Estonian start-up Velmenni, in Tallinn.

Velmenni used a li-fi-enabled light bulb to transmit data at speeds of 1Gbps. Laboratory tests have shown theoretical speeds of up to 224Gbps.
