no :/
prolly will get both on DVD, not watched the first one either

see the old ones?

lol no
used to be a hardcore starwars geek before they messed it up
then b5

Looks like the movie2k was snatched. Earlier, DNS remapped it to localhost - now Google.

@JourneymanGeek Ah, I have the laserdisks of the first three( or um 4,5,6 that is)

o0
laserdisks are one of those formats...
no one makes players for them, and they never went full hipster like vinyl

@JourneymanGeek Vinyl is hipster enough to be retro now.

@FEichinger: I can actually understand (to an extent) the love for vinyl (and even tubes)
now, cassettes...

12:22 AM
@JourneymanGeek Not as anything but collectibles, sorry.

@FEichinger: two things really
firstly, there's 'good' distortion
Vinyl does sound better in some cases (often cause its mixed differently, and some of that distortion sounds good to people), but it would sound identical to a good enough digital copy of it

Decay and no "easy" way of creating a portable copy.

@FEichinger: all of my stuff is digital. some of it is flac
;p

@JourneymanGeek Yeah LD was a pioneer proprietory format, but they say it was the best quality star wars that wasnt messed with by George...

would rather spend money on general computer stuff, and sensible amounts of money on good gear
@FEichinger: kinda like tubes ;p
@mateo_salta: Han shot first damnit.

12:27 AM
Abrams ruined Space fiction for me.

You can't take a single bloody step into the genre anymore without Abrams having dibs on everything.

eh
everyone ruined it
there's no good space opera any more

portable... relative term.

There could have been. We got new Star Trek and Star Wars.
But both are controlled by Abrams.
We could've gotten full revivals.
2
Instead, we got lens flare.
2

12:30 AM
And Infrared trees.

@FEichinger: I don't consider remakes/reboots to be useful
there need to be new stories

@JourneymanGeek New stories don't work in a society that consists of people that pretend to like what ceased to be.

@FEichinger: and space opera gets no love
there's a lot of great shows that lasted only a season
and continuum, (which currently is the best sci fi show going on, even if its earthbound) only survived cause its canadian

Sci Fi no longer takes place in space, because we're well aware now that it's impossible with our current understanding of physics.
Science killed Space Fi.

Seriously, the best you're getting nowadays is something along the lines of Defiance.

Unless a fan of 2001

12:38 AM
@FEichinger: firefly was basically sabotaged by their studio

@JourneymanGeek Firefly's cancellation is a really weird story.

@FEichinger: yup
I think I will showel off my desk today >_>

I'm still very certain it has a lot to do with FOX's political orientation. Which didn't really align with some of Firefly's underlying concepts.

If it is anything like mine, you might need a shovel.

<-- has given up on using a desk

12:46 AM
lol
I got a new amp
this means more cables ;p

jrg
1:25 AM
@FEichinger in some ways, Firefly actually agrees with Fox's political orientation more than some of their current shows... free market and all that jazz.
ok, so i'm tempted to do this presentation in say, emacs.
because really, why the heck not?!

@jrg In hindsight, obviously. But a decade ago that wasn't really all that much the case - Firefly was the odd one out.
@jrg Because you would go insane.

jrg
@FEichinger Yeah.
@FEichinger Because I have too much free time? (which is a complete lie.)
I just don't like libreoffice. lets face it.

@FEichinger: actually mine isn't too bad

@jrg LibreOffice is a pain. But emacs turns people crazy.

this is why I wanted to go with sliderocket, but I can't get the level of control I need. Google Docs doesn't let me do that either. I'm not doing an HTML5-ish thing unless I can help it.

I'm almost tempted to dump my speakers

I guess I could do prezi. i guess...
or perhaps microsoft office web?

@jrg See? Emacs even works on you when you just consider using it.

jrg
i'll do prezi

@jrg Ever tried sliderocket? :P

@AmithKK tried
I didn't really like it.

Q: How to prevent the termination of Anacron jobs after battery mode commences?

Peter SnowI have a backup script which is run daily by Anacron. It can take around 3 hours to complete. I'm happy for Anacron not to commence the script if the laptop is running on batteries, but once started, I don't want it to be terminated if battery mode commences, since doing so leaves me with an inc...

Q: Is April the good time to travel to Tibet?

adolzeonI am planning a trip to China and Tibet next year. Is April the good time to travel to Tibet? or which month is recommended?

flagged and smartassed.

@JorgeCastro: Your Discourse instance is broken.
I get HTTP 500 errors when trying to post a new topic.

April 1st may be the perfect time...
hey what's up @NathanOsman

And now Ask Ubuntu is giving me 408 errors :P

:(

2:45 AM
@mateo_salta Not much - adding some new features to GitDroid, as usual :)

@NathanOsman Error on your end.

@FEichinger Well, that's a transient error so that's not really a fair assessment.

@NathanOsman Given that you get a combination of 500 and 408 while others get nothing? Transmission error.

The 500 error is absolutely not on my end.

@NathanOsman I saw the editor earlier, looks cool, I'll need to do some more road testing - but that with the other update where you can open files from outside gitdroid - it is really awesome - Have you thought of separating the programs

2:49 AM
By definition, an HTTP 500 error indicates a server error.
@mateo_salta I'm trying to make them modular so that you can, for example, use the file browser to browse internal storage. But I'd like to keep them together in the app.
I can however, create separate launcher entries for them if that's what you're asking.

@NathanOsman Could also be a broken request that's understood but not processed.

@FEichinger No, then the server should return a status code from the 4xx range.
HTTP is all about semantics :)

@NathanOsman It should. But, as I said, if it does manage to read the request, but fails to process it, that's 5xx.

Anything in the 5xx range indicates that the server has run into an unexpected exceptional circumstance.

@NathanOsman yeah, together as a package deal. but a launcher would be awesome, and ability to open files from gitdroid in another editor/program - say part of the source contains a picture - user has a different/preferred text editor

2:52 AM
@FEichinger I'm not sure I quite understand.
@mateo_salta That is planned. I've wanted to add that feature for quite some time.

sounds complex.

Basically all I need to do is detect the MIME type of the file and Android will find all programs that are registered to open that MIME type.

ohh, what about widgets? Like a last commit box.
@NathanOsman and would you need to register ones it doesn't know about

@NathanOsman Correct me if I'm wrong, but ... A content-broken payload could get read, but throw 500, rather than 400 - because it's syntax-complete.

@mateo_salta That's a neat idea.
@FEichinger Yes, but that would still indicate an error on the part of the server.

2:59 AM
@mateo_salta directly to SE gems, please

@NathanOsman Not if the payload is broken by transmission error - which is what a random 408 afterwards definitely indicates.

@Lucio what is the address for that

@mateo_salta @Seth is the guy for that

Jorge isn't going to be happy...
Detroit was just eliminated.

3:04 AM
@Lucio No, @Seth is the guy for telling me to submit.

lol
@FEichinger I can imagine that :D

@NathanOsman Huh?

The Detroit Red Wings. It's a hockey team.

Oh, hockey. I see.

Q: Why don't we allow unofficial derivitaves still using the Ubuntu archives?

strugeeWhy don't we allow questions about unofficial remixes/derivatives/flavors of Ubuntu that are still using the official repositories (e.g. they have nothing in sources.list besides archive.ubuntu.com/*, etc.)? Q: Opening a port for listening

JohnMerlinoI have a small program I created. Here is a relevant piece of it: void TcpSocket::ConnectSocket() { socket = new QTcpSocket(this); socket->connectToHost("localhost", 77); if(socket->waitForConnected(3000)){ qDebug() << "Connected"; socket->write("Hello Server\n\r\n"...

I dont think that answer is what I was looking for, because even when I use a port higher than 1024, it still refuses to connect. I feel I am missing something simple here.

@NathanOsman QT is your topic. Any ideas?

I'll take a peek.

Hold on a sec ... Does that code even create a listener?
All I see is a request to localhost:77 ...

That's all the code I have. I call that method from within main.cpp
I pretty much took it from a book
but they were using port 80
which presumably was already open for them

I have no idea about Qt, but if there's nothing that's waiting for the request, how is it supposed to work?

4:41 AM
well the ultimate goal is that program will be running on the server listening on that port, and then some grsm data will be sending packets to that port
so the program will read that information
I haven't gotten to that point yet, because right now that code there doesn't even connect to port 77
this is supposed to be a simple socket connection

As I said, I have no idea about Qt. Could well be something entirely different. It just strikes me as odd.

I answered it.

yeah I looked at that answer, it looks good worth a try, thanks

@JohnMerlino Oh, you're right here! I can just help you directly then.
Let me know if you need any further clarification.

yeah I am in here everyday, i just dont talk much, because Im still learning linux

4:47 AM
I'm usually here in the daytime but haven't been for the last couple of weeks due to work.

But I think this is the key right here: "an application must explicitly tell the operating system that it is willing to accept connections on that port. "

Great, glad to have helped.

@Takkat @Takkat, I was looking at the svg code you uploaded. What is the purpose of the first path (the one with fill=#fff)? Why can't it be replaced with a white rectangle of appropriate size?

Hi!

@vasa1 it's an example of raw code automatically generated by Inkscape from tracing a bitmap. As traces were not stacked a negative from the object was created as a background. For serious further usage of course it's better to remove this background object, or to replace it by a rectangle.

@wim feel free to review my entire edit history, you are welcome to revert edits where you think I significantly changed the meaning of the question, keep in mind that instead of downvoting a question with a controversial "phrase" that I know others will downvote, that gets edited out so we can answer the actual question. Everyone makes mistakes, so I have no problem someone going through everything I have done on the site.

i have an internal disk mounted via mount /dev/sdb1 /media/Blah is there a way to find out the parameters i should use in fstab from what the system used for that command?

@Oli Meh. It's Introversion. 20 bucks isn't unreasonable.
That said, the game is alpha by the letter right now - bug-ridden, hella incomplete and tough as nails to get under control because of the lack of balancing.

this answered my question, thanks :) linuxstall.com/fstab

Oli
@BennettDill just running mount should tell you how things are mounted currently (eg what options have been used) which can be handy when writing a fstab line, but the syntax often needs to be adapted. That is to say, you can't just copy and paste the output of mount into /etc/fstab -- Bad things will occur.
