I am using my server to compile Qt5 for ARM... for two reasons:
- I have a really poky Internet connection at home.
- I don't need to burden my CPU here with 5 hours of compilation.
I've got a 223MB archive of the Qt5 source code (minus webkit) freshly pulled from the Qt5 Git repos if anyone is interested.

Q: After Login there is a strange window asking for a password

user154374since upgrading to Ubuntu 13.04, I get a window asking for a password for my email address. The window appears after logging into the desktop. The window is titled "Zugangsanfrage" (access request) and "Legitimierungsanfrage" (legitimation request), asks for the password of the acount my email...

It's the keyring.

probably
and he might not be admin?

9:07 AM
> I tried entering some random characters and it is happy
I think it is initiating a new keyring instance thingie.

@jokerdino lol that must be the keyring ;)
and entering random chars is ... asking for trouble _O-

@jokerdino how do you explain that the dialog asks about his email? Is that the "online accounts" feature?
and why would entering random characters make the dialog happy every time?

Oh. I should have read the question. brb.

it sure sounds fishy the way he worded it.
I wonder if the delay in shutter lets him make a screenshot

And finally, he has the option to store the password in the keyring, so it's not simply the keyring initializing itself, it is?

9:16 AM
@JenniferWilson it probably isn't online accounts.
quick. someone freshly install ubuntu and enable autologin.

lol

installing.. 25%

We got the best person on this. We will solve this question!

we need a screenshot :X

I get two windows whenever I login. One from keyring and one from git when I am updating my remote repos.

9:19 AM
I get no windows... my keyring got an empty password <3

Enough info. Thanks :P
His german install makes it more difficult.

it is not that one
but it could be a MAIL client
t-bird?

i cant find the image
@Rinzwind you mean like t-bird is asking for password to be stored in keyring?
we got a picture. but not a screenshot

HA good old camera

someone translate it?

9:32 AM
this IS the keyring
See the keys on the left ...

Google Translate works fine on it

@JenniferWilson I am lazy to type it out. >.>

@Rinzwind we still don't know what app launchs it

<.<

@jokerdino he did in the comments

9:33 AM
~.~

@JenniferWilson yeah but it has to be a mail client. so I was thinking T-bird

well, it could be anything where his login is his email address
he says his login is this address in Ubuntu one

one way is asking him if he uses a mail account.

I did I did

actually, it can be Ubuntu one.

9:34 AM
it sucks that we don't know what is asking for it

let me nuke my ubuntu one entry on keyring.

lol

rebooting.

I consider this a BUG.
keyring should always state where the request is from
mitch... remove the mail address >:-D

to your keychain*, right?

9:37 AM
in a couple of days he gets spammed _O-

i dont get anything.

we got an answer!
>:)
problem solved >:D

Translation:
Please enter the password for the account *******@*****.com

Check here to add this password of your Keychain

he made me reboot.

he did!! the rascal!

9:39 AM
what answer do we have?

he deleted it

whaaa problem back :=)
@JenniferWilson
"This is caused because your keyring password is different from your user password. You've probably changed your user password from the command line.

Just change your user password with the graphical Users tool located on System Settings. That will change both your password and the keyring password at the same time.

Alternatively, open "Password and encription keys" from Unity. Choose View » By keyring. Right click on Session Start and select "Change password". You're being asked for the same password, though, that is probably the last password you've set on your user."

Hi - I believe it's the mail client Evolution or Thunderbird asking for account verifications

Takkat our saviour.

me too @Takkat

9:41 AM
savior for US folks.

I called it 1st >:D
@jokerdino I can read german perfectly ;-)

he is back with another answer

Can't save you because I'm on my netbook without VM --> lost!

9:43 AM
They are on Evolution ;)

If I flag something, can 10k users see it?

They can probably see the flag but not the flagger.

BTW.... I said coronation but we do not coronate (we divided church and state)
>:D

And only if it is NAA.

@Oli we can not see WHO flagged

Oli
9:46 AM
@jokerdino NAA?

@Rinzwind accpted ;)

@Oli Not an answer.

Oli
@jokerdino Oh... That's a bit naff.

People call it NAA since stone age.

Oli
@jokerdino Not that it's called NAA - that 10kers can only see the boring flags

9:48 AM
lol

Wait, they can also see the close flags. But since you cant do that, I eliminated it.
askubuntu.com/tools/flagged Check their queue.

Oli
Ok so quality flags are in there too

All the vandalism flags show up there.
And pretty much all flags from community user.

hmmm interesting ...

Q: Why is there a 4-layouts limit for keyboards?

MussnoonI just discovered that I couldn't add more than 4 layouts for my keyboard. Googling revealed that it was a universal limit (at least for GNU/Linux) and the only way(s) to get around it was to use some hackish way with scripts. Is there really a technical reason behind this? If yes, what is it?

has an answer here ->

Q: How setup DNS names and static IPs for virtualbox Ubuntu

My EHDD is full
I have a very very old backup
10.04 :P

oh dear!
2nd drive available?

2:16 PM
I'm fine with fresh installing.
I just want to know, if I make a /home partition on another drive, and cp my files over, will it be erased during install?

I would dd your /home to a 2nd drive - fresh install,, then move the /home back. Then do a complete gnome defaults reset.

DD?

a dd copy

I don't think I can dd to another drive that size
Wont cp work?

you'll need to get the flags correct for permissions and stuff.

2:19 PM
hmm
What if I don't want my entire home
but only my downloads, documents and pictures
Will that work?

a simple copy would suffice in that case

Hold on. Let me see if I have some 10.04 cd lying around
Unity is super slow with the OSS drivers
Ok, I have 8.04
9.04
10.04

wait ... when did ext4 come in? 10.04? 8.04 / 9.04 may be too old.

10.10
10.10 shipit

that should work to mount your second drive and copy stuff from the live cd

2:24 PM
Hopefully all of these still are fully functional
Reboot BRB

do you have a separate /home partition or is it under /
?

Under /
How can I force change permissions?
Approx 4hrs left

2:42 PM
what do you mean "force" ? - sudo chmod ... ?

tar preserves permissions and can sit on incompatible with linux permissions filesystems help.ubuntu.com/community/BackupYourSystem/TAR

Cool
The permissions are not too bad
why is everything a spelling mistake except grammer in 10.10 firefox?

Does anyone know how to configure resolv.conf?
Of, for that matter, anything about it at all?

there have been a couple questions on site here. the archwiki has some good documentation on configuring the shims that dynamically build the "dnsmasq knowledge base" if you're interested in getting dnsmasq to do what you want with more control. it's not as simple as just edit resolv.conf before, but it is more flexible.

@CallmeV I just want to understand why is my resolv.conf so?

I'ld read the archwiki.
Essentially it flattens a couple of files, some of which are static, others of which are dynamically generated. All of which can be customized, but nobody I know "wants" to make it work exactly as intended.

3:48 PM
does anyone know if maxmind geoip lists are homogenous for country names (no more than one spelling for a given geographical area)?
