And as I say, every release we get a hundred thousand people asking when it's being released... We should keep something accurate to dupe them against.

I don't know if this question fits in meta askubuntu, but is it a bug or just a style?
Let me start off by saying that I learn things in a very unusual way. I started designing a theme for my linux mint desktop and I spent hours trying to figure out from tutorials on how to implement my themes, change colors and shapes of buttons, scroll bars and window controls... nothing helped o...

I just installed ubuntu 12.10 on asus x401u, and after installation there is no list of wireless connection. i didn't have that problem with installation on HP. What i can do to enable wi-fi?
First, right-click the file and select Rename. Rename it to 2012_0508_RT3290_Linux_STA_v2.6.0.0.tar.bz2; that is, without the leading slash and adding .tar. Now right-click it and select Extract Here. Open the file os/linux/config.mk with any text editor and change the line:

RT3290 wifi chip is becoming common on consumer notebooks. Its support starts from 3.6 so support on 12.10 may need lbm-cw.

I am new to linux. I was using fedora and now switching to Ubuntu for a try.
On Fedora my wireless network card was working OK from the OS install (I didnt had to do anything for it to work)
On Ubuntu, with the lspci -v command, I get:

They even found our Bunsen burner hidden in the room where the explosive hazard dwell. So why should I need more rep then. Life is too limited it seems.
Answering dupes is not good for rep in the long run anyway.
I have accidentally changed the root user from administrator type to basic type in the user account page, and now i have no whatever root previligaes on the system, how i can switch back to administrator type?
awesome, my (paid for) travel trailer is on a yearly leased (paid for) lot with close broadband. let the games begin ;) and my ex-boss says again that he's going to pay me. we'll see on the latter.
Go to the User Accounts.
Then, click on 'Advanced Settings'.
Then, tick any boxes you want. The one you want though, is Administer the System.
Hope this helps!!
When was the user settings changed to look like that?
This answer was merged from a question about how to make a user an administrator; while it does answer this more general question, making administrators is its focus.
Being An Administrator Consists of (Specific) Group Membership

Hey guys. I wanted to upgrade to 13.04 from 12.04. I skipped 12.10 because of its reputation, but if I don't want to reinstall everything I had no choice and now I'm running 12.10; more precisely I'm stuck there
@FEichinger Thx. That version of the image might be considered confusing (and I remember I later used a different version), because it has two users whose names are very similar. People might think that's common.
@badp Upgrading directly from any release other than 12.10 to 13.04 is unsupported, will never be supported, and will always likely cause terrible problems. However, it might be possible to solve your problem. What is the specific problem you are facing right now? Where are you stuck? And how are you stuck?
@badp nice to hear a positive review instead of a nitpicker though. let's face it, we could nitpick any product. just looking for an "I have one. I'm not a fanboi. It doesn't suck. KTHX"

mine is dynamic so it points to the router. static bounces through the new dns daemon thing that was forced upon the community as a whole whether we like it or not
Root Access said that if I want to load a TF2 map in less than 20 minutes with my "mere" 4 GB of RAM, I should stop worrying about shitty Windows memory management and just upgrade my goddamn nVidia drivers on Ubuntu already, or hell, even use Nouveau, so that's what's up.
Is /etc/resolv.conf useless in 12.04?
I see that DNS server info is stored in Network Manager now. The nmcli command line tool can list that for you.
If I want to add one more dns server, will adding it to /etc/resolv.conf by using the resolvconf package help?
if the following is true it makes me wonder if we are approaching the well known Windows situation: reinstall as cure for all
I've reinstalled unity. ATM everything is smooth (5 minutes passed)... But we'll see. If that works, should I post it as an answer or will one of you do that? — cr0kesMar 31 at 17:17
I am trying to customize the initramfs rescue environment and would like to force the kernel to fail mounting / and drop into the (initramfs) rescue shell, as opposed to single user mode.
