@CallmeV: Just got back from supper, sorry.
I'm considering ARM builds.
In fact, I'm going to talk to someone on #launchpad about that.

@CallmeV Are those crepes or burritos?

@Seth taquitos

yum.

@NathanOsman if they tell you how to add a repo with a gui for adding repos lmk. otherwise i may build the thing. it's seems like a stupid thing not to have in preview

I'm bored.
I want a good question to answer.
Maybe I'll explore Auto hotkey. Anyone used it ever?

nope
take a look at the bcache kernel module question. it's only not having a good answer because it requires rebuilding initramfs to use it for fd acceleration

Don't know anything about that :(
Once I get rid of WUBI I'll be willing to trash my system exploring :D
Answering hard questions you don't understand rocks!
If you can explore and break things.

2:27 AM
i asked a component question so the answer doesn't expire...
just saying, "run this for every kernel upgrade" is a bad answer

Yeah I guess so.. But might be necessary sometimes.

i so desperately want not to have to self answer all my ubu-touch questions. it feels like writing the documentation for free...

That's what it is. I don't see a reason why you wouldn't do it though. Obviously you've been thinking about it.
Open source is just a bunch of volunteers.
Not to mention Stack Exchange.

That's fair. I more mean that if I document something it's dual purpose... like "donate a dollar for this silly game or the tutorial that it was built to demonstrate"

Q: How to attach elisp function source code in Emacs?

Hongxu ChenI could use M-x find-function to find the source code of some elisp functions if the function is not written in C code. Q: Time synchronization of machines on LAN to GPS NTP server on the LAN UBUNTU 12.04

Nate LockwoodI have 4 computers on a LAN that need to have their system clocks closely synchronized within a ms or so if possible. I have just installed a GPS based time server (ESE-104A) on the LAN. Should I worry about meta-data in images files using Ubuntu?

What specific threat are you worrying about?

I mean, there is information saved in the meta-data of a digital image, right?
I know that it is a problem for Windows users, but happens the same in Ubuntu?
The question should be Can an image file in Ubuntu save meta-data?

exiftool is a free library you could simply purge the data, but it's in... shudders perl

is there a question in this site?
If not, I will create a new one

Q: Extracting meta data from raw images (DSLR camera)

ddeimekeI am searching for a tool, that extracts meta data out of raw images produced by a digital SLR (in my case Canon EOS 550D). Usually the information in an image is embedded by the device / tool used to create the image.

exactly
like the information provided by the GPS

should I advice jonas (who set a bounty) to post his own question, as the OP doesn't seem to follow up?

For example, most cameras include information about the conditions used when taking the picture.

right

7:58 PM
Whether the flash fired or not, shutter speed, etc.
As you mentioned, some also include location data.

@Lucio my laptop doesn't have a gps receiver does yours? it seems like you're asking about something you could logic out a little.

Most cameras offer an option that will disable this though.

I want to burn that data

@NathanOsman It wasn't closed as Off topic.. Seems like a "shopping question" as they are called on SO.

@CallmeV I was referring to a smart-phone

7:59 PM
@Lucio sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool exactly what I pointed out to you already

@CallmeV Be careful... although it may not have a GPS receiver, your location can still be determined fairly accurately thanks to other techniques.
Using local WiFi access points, IP geolocation, etc.

fair enough, ip geolocation and whatnot are possibilities

@Seth Well... it's hard to say. I didn't intend it to be a "list all services that can do xxx" type of question. It was more of a "does xxx even exist" type of question.
@Lucio So basically you want a way to remove this information from pictures already taken?

Could use an edit or two.. I'll look at it later if you like.

That is a nice article!

Could some mod do this? That post should me in the other post. I'll create a bounty, but I think that the actual post is not the right to contain such an answer.

Q: What advice to give when OP doesn't follow up?

guntbertIt looks like in this question the OP doesn't follow up with information. Should I advise jonas, who has offered a bounty on this question to either post his own question or edit the question (difficult, he has not enough rep) or do something completely different?

9:23 PM
@Seth What happened dude?

embarrassed Just wasn't thinking I guess.

It could happen, and that could happen to a user that make 3 hundreds of edits by day :)

I don't make that many :P
I do try to do a lot of edits though.

@Seth sorry, I didn't used the correct word

Oh, OK. :)

9:28 PM
@Seth ~4.5 edits per day
That is great!

I guess.. It could be better though.

@Seth You are only outweighed by Peachy (having in mind the time)
But you are the first one in this year!

I think it was the that was problematic.

Q: Desktop tag must go!

Bruno Pereiradesktop is something we all use, unless you want to specifically refer to server (as in, I dont have a desktop, this is a server) most questions will be directly related to it. I'd appreciate at last a comment. I asked it 4 hours ago!

@Zignd Going to comment "hi" ^^
@Zignd btw, Finished reading your question and I have a couple of things to ask. Did it boot from the USB Stick the first time but not the 2nd time or any other time after that?

I'll be grateful for your constructive commentary @LuisAlvarado
Yes

ok and you did not change anything at all between both tries?

I think it's GRUB's fault
no I didn't

11:30 PM
Might be but I need to ask a couple of things so I can have a rough guess of what it could be. Is the computer an UEFI one? I mean did it come with Windows 8 on an UEFI activated system?

Well after installing Ubuntu on it (dual-boot), the windows 8 option show an "UEFI..."

Gotta say, that is one awesome laptop. Was just checking the hardware out.
And you followed all the steps I provided in askubuntu.com/questions/221835/…

I paid 410 dollars on it

Good price for something with that kind of hardware. It's a monster!

no I didn't

11:34 PM
Can you do the part that I wrote there about disabling the secure boot part
It should help with the booting problem BUT in any case, you mentioned you booted at least one time before that I could install the Ubuntu system.
So to be sure, you can't:

1. Boot from USB or CD
2. Boot from the installed Windows 8 or Ubuntu systems

I also would like to not that when I installed ubuntu for the first time I couldn't install using a cd, just with the USB stick
And I will follow the step from you answer.

Ok can you turn the computer on and press F2 like crazy until it loads the Bios
or at least some kind of setup

It's a question?
if so Yes
I use F2 to enter the SETUP (at least it still works)

sorry hehe. I mean, can you right now, press F2 so you can get to the Setup.
and in the Setup, look for a booting option that mentiones UEFI

ohhh no, I'm using the laptop to talk with you, but I'll try it now and I give you some log info in a moment. Ok?

11:40 PM
Umm. Weird, you are capable of going to the Bios but it had Windows 8 with UEFI.
Did it actually come with Windows 8?
or did you upgrade from Vista o 7?

Well it came with Windows 8, I'm 100% sure, there is also a stamp in the back.
Any more questions SIR?!

a ok no problem. I find it weird because normally, with UEFI active in most (all for me) it is impossible to get to the Bios that easy. But maybe the toshiba is similar to Intel in that regard that it gives the option to the user to be able to change it anytime.

cya

Anyway, when you get the time, try first to check the Bios and see the UEFI (Or any UEFI, Secure Boot related option) and change it to see how it behaves
