Q: How can I get a exFAT drive to (auto) mount?

SethI have a flash drive that is formatted exFAT and when I plug it into my Ubuntu machine I get a mount error. How can I auto-mount exFAT formatted drives?

I've since found a duplicate.

@Seth attach a custom flag ;)

I will if a mod doesn't show up.. It's just so inefficient.
There, done.
Just my luck that I only find the duplicate after asking the question lol.
Is it just me, or is this sad?

7:06 PM
@Seth do you know how I modify the top bar in gnome-flashback?

Yes. You don't.
I don't think you can edit the panel.

what?
it's just blank....

What do you want to edit about it?
Oh..

on my laptop I can...

Screenshot?

7:08 PM
I want to edit

Edit wat?
what part?

@Seth the top bar where the menus should be
right now is blank
working on screenshots
that's my desktop
and that is my laptop, I want it to look like my laptop
I use gnome flashback on both but cant figure out how to get the top bar the way I want..

Wow. I dunno how do did that. The panels were never very cooperative for me. Let me log into gnome-flashback and do some testing.
o/ @MadaraUchiha

@Seth ok, on my laptop I can edit the panels with alt + rightclick but on my desktop I cant

@Seth Yo

7:15 PM
@Alvar gnome-session --version for both machines please.
I can edit with Alt + right click too

@Seth it's the same version on both
3.9.90
I think I will reinstall gnome flashback
hmmm
trying no effects

Hey @Seth

@Jeremy Hey :)
@Alvar Oh yeah, I was using no effects.

How's sudobot?

I've been pretty busy lately, but he's OK.
He isn't running right now because a bug in my display driver prevents me from using X forwarding in ssh, so I can only start him in Windows.

7:23 PM
YES FLASHBACK NO EFFECTS WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
I'm saved!

\o/
must be a compiz thing.

the hat race is on!
@jrg morning? where are you?

@Braiam eh?
@Alvar Oh.. the white line was because you were editing it (it was in the equivalent of Windows' "unlocked" state)
All I was saying @Braiam is that we don't have many voters..

jrg
@Alvar UTC-5.
so it's 2PM, but I just got here, so, morning.

If you compare the reputation tab with the voters tab it's just... sad :(
@jrg Still morning here :)

@Seth kinda my point :P

@Braiam Ah, I see.

jrg
7:34 PM
ok, time to just slog through ALLLLL the email.

@Seth I had the white line since I first started using flashback
it's not there when I edit/use my new top bar (removed the last one)

So yeah, I installed Steam, installing dotnet40 gave me "Installing" for a while, then vanished.
Installing xna40 gave me an error "can't find the runtime" or something similar, then waited a while and vanished as well

mm... yeah, I got that one too
wait.

So now I run it?

I could try, but I'm not 100% sure it will work

8:02 PM
@Braiam crashes
@Braiam Again, when I try to enter the "new computer code"

@MadaraUchiha Steam has a native Linux client.
Why are you using the Windows version in Wine?

@NathanOsman It doesn't run Terraria though :)

Oh :(

You know what bothers me the most?
Terraria has an Android version, but not a Linux one

I'm trying to find information about installing on a usb drive. I assume the question is around, but all questions I find are about installing from a usb drive. Should I ask a new question, or does anyone know what I should search for?

maybe this one?

Q: How do I install Ubuntu to a USB key? (without using Startup Disk Creator)

badp If you are hurrying to reply, System → Administration → StartUp Disk Creator -- no, that's not what I'm talking about. I want to try Ubuntu 11.04's Unity without touching my existing Ubuntu install. To do this, I need to install the nVidia drivers first (sigh). To do this, I need changes t...

Does anyone here know how to get wine to detect the updated mono?

@Ell did you installed mono in a patch wine can find?

I downloaded Eclipse, and most of the drop down buttons didn't have items. How would I add the usual items.
Or otherwise recieve them.

@MadaraUchiha .NET 40? What time period do you come from? o_O
@PyRulez I think there's a question about this..

Okay, let me look

Q: Saucy upgrade causes menu problem in Eclipse

Ralph RassweilerHas anyone been through this: Using Ubuntu 13.10 (with JDK 1.7.0_45). Download and uncompress Eclipse Kepler for Java EE Developers. The software menus are messed up. I didn't notice similar problems in other software. When I click any menu of eclipse, the drop-down seems to be "cut". Sometim...

Maybe?

Exactly Right. Can I reward you with reputation in a chat room?

Nope, but that's okay :)
All I did was pull up an existing question ;)

9:37 PM
Well, thanks.

@Seth That doesn't have an accepted answer, does it have an answer that works though?

It has a big answer, so it is probably right.
Dumb people have short attention spans.

@ThomasW. I dunno. I don't use Eclipse, I use netbeans.
Or sublime.

@Seth i prefer hand-coding everything lol
not even bothering ot use an IDE :P

Java can be long winded though :P

9:39 PM
I don't install eclipse...

Hmm... my N5 suddenly doesn't want to charge via any USB cables...

:O

I've got it turned off and plugged in directly via AC.
It's still got about 68% charge left.
I mean it runs fine - it's not like it won't turn on.

Wait, how do you know how much charge it has if its off.

9:41 PM
It's just discharging and not charging. That's the problem.

TechnoPath?

@PyRulez I just turned it off.

Ah

I'll see if it charges when it isn't running.

Okay

9:42 PM
The display informs me that it's charging.
But who knows if that can be believed.
Okay, so it does charge without any problems while the device is off.

(Reuters) - As a key part of a campaign to embed encryption software that it could crack into widely used computer products, the U.S. National Security Agency arranged a secret $10 million contract with RSA, one of the most influential firms in the computer security industry, Reuters has learned

@Seth I expect several "workarounds" that bug
@blade19899 too late
that's yesterday's news

aaahhh
I work 7 days a weeks. So, sometimes am a little behind.
I wouldn't be surprised if they managed to back-door an open-source product.
If that happens, All hell breaks loose.

10:28 PM
@blade19899 I posted this days ago

hmm, I got a cool computer :P pastebin.com/vzYNqQYv

jrg
@Alvar nice
my laptop is a little on the warm side right now. :P

@jrg well this is a desktop pc that I built myself ;)
IT'S THE @Rinzwind !!!

My hat is cooler than yours! ;)
anyone got an idea what this means? Notice: Undefined offset: 3 in /var/www/guide.php on line 10
apache error from my php file...

11:02 PM
@Alvar, syntax error on line 10? missing ";"?
@hbdgaf. working seven days a week here. Can't be on askubuntu every day. xD

@blade19899 didn't change anything on line 10, I added two global variables that went to localhost, and commented out the same variables that went to may domain.

Then, I don't know :/

yeah.. ignoring that "error" -.-
also my lighttpd doesn't load my png images but the localhost version does..
which is strange..

Hahaha. Wish i could be of more help. Could you post your code?

@blade19899 hmm, sure..
//dev mode
    $address = "http://localhost";
    $imagepath = "http://localhost/pictures/";
    //live mode
    //$address ="http://alvarberglind.se/howto/";
    //$imagepath = "http://localhost/howto/pictures/";
that's what I changed
function ConnectToDB() {
    $con = mysqli_connect("localhost", "user", "pass", "db");
	if (mysqli_connect_errno($con)) {
            echo ("<HTML>FAILED TO CONNECT TO MYSQL DATABASE</html>");
            exit();
        }
        return $con;
    }
the $con = .. that's line 10
which is weird...

11:11 PM
shouldn't this "localhost", "user", "pass", "db"
be
"localhost, user, pass, db"

no..
I didn't change it when I got it running on my dev computer
just made the same settings as I did on my server and it works.

@Seth lol

That's what I feel like right now.

recursion ftw

11:13 PM
@Seth, lol. Sinatra?

@blade19899 Sinatra?
I'm not even sure if Python interprets i -1 correctly :S

@Seth don't know, I think in Java terms when I see that...

@Seth, The lyrics, are from a sinatra song. I think?!

"Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!", also known as "Let It Snow", is a song written by lyricist Sammy Cahn and composer Jule Styne in July 1945. It was written in Hollywood, California during one of the hottest days on record. Recording history First recorded in 1945 by Vaughn Monroe, it became a popular hit, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard music chart the following year. One of the best-selling songs of all time, "Let It Snow!" has been covered countless times. Due to its seasonal lyrics, it is commonly regarded as a Christmas song. However, the song has no Christmas references an...
shrug

In 1950, Frank Sinatra recorded the song with The Swanson Quartet.

11:17 PM
Ah. Well not exactly a Sinatra song, but I guess he sung it ;P

who cares about the song? We only care about if the code work in python! :P

Those lyrics are used allot.
ahhaha
true

@Alvar I put it into the interpreter and it came out without any errors, but whether there is a logic error in it or not I don't know.

move to the midwest. you'll begin disagreeing with let it snow.

the question isn't really if it gives errors or not, it's does it actually work?
code can compile and still fail..

11:19 PM
That's what I said >.>
But I don't know if it works or not.

this works so far...it's still in progress though pastebin.com/aVpF8DxL

It isn't made to actually run and do something.

@Seth run it
@Seth well make it print let it snow then! ;)

@hbdgaf What.. language is that?

python

11:20 PM
That's what I thought. Since when did python use ''' for comments?

''' is for multiline comments. it has been a thing since comments contained '
people use it for docstrings ALL the time.

well that's one feature I had forgotten. Much nicer than /* */

yes. yes it is.
i first found out about it reading code from immdbg i think
pretty code is pretty...

Interesting:
157
A: Why doesn't Python have multiline comments?

Ned BatchelderI doubt you'll get a better answer than, "Guido didn't feel the need for multi-line comments". Guido has tweeted about this, Python tip: You can use multi-line strings as multi-line comments. Unless used as docstrings, they generate no code! :-)

it's just so pretty
@Seth that sounds a lot like don't be an idiot

11:29 PM

@hbdgaf lol

@blade19899 you really don't want to do this...

...
...
lol

I'll be around any time now...

I HATE JAVASCRIPT

11:34 PM
Me two.

@Braiam me too. python should be the web language.

I have like 4 hours figuring out a Chrome extension :(

not that i want python running in my browser. it would be atrocious. i don't write sites that use js at all. css menus and nojs ftw

my raspberry PI webserver is actually very fast :D

actually, the thing that I hate about JS is that everyone write a mess out of it :(

11:36 PM
not everyone should write javascript.

What happen to "awesomeness" ?

@Seth you mean awesomeness of DOOM!

I think it removes it if I don't have enough posts in a row.
Like so...
It should come back
There.

Ah I see.
Never noticed that before.

:)
Yeah, you wouldn't. (short named people)
:) jk

lol
;p
I have gotten over my hate of JS. I actually like it now.

Is there really much difference between ext2, ext3, and ext4?
Always been kinda confuseld on that one.

@Seth next time I need to fix a bug I will call you :)

Is it like Fat16 -> Fat32 -> NTFS? It gets better? Or what...

(since yesterday just figuring out why stuff borked)

11:45 PM
@Braiam Never made a Chrome extension before though, and I'm not terribly good, but I will try :)

@Braiam Thanks :)

@RPiAwesomeness it's reverse compatible, so unless you need the duplicity and metadata, they should be functionally similar...

Q: How can I fix network configuration on SteamOS?

fccoelhoJust installed SteamOS and got no network interface whatsoever... what a bummer... wireless card can see nearby networks but cannot connect even to an open network. Eth0 won't work even with a static interface I reckon it has to do with bad Drivers... My wireless card is an AR9227 an my ether...

SteamOS in Server Fault???? what is this madness?

Whoo gosh! 1 EB. Do drives that big exist?

11:47 PM
@Braiam ,that's probably off topic since steam os isn't even beta...
well yes steam os is open beta, but not really...

@RPiAwesomeness yes, exabyte drives exist

> Server Fault is a site for system and network administrators needing expert answers related to managing computer systems in a professional capacity.

Dang. thats big.

@Braiam well it's still off topic if it was posted on unix.SE !

Think they'll ever have EB SSDs? Samsung has a 1TB SSD...

11:49 PM
And the barrage of bad SteamOS questions have begun.

@Seth almost all steam os questions are off topic...

same goes for steamos questions

is more on topic in unix.se then SU, since SU don't like betas

@Braiam does unix like betas?
thought that was off topic on SE
like a beta of Ubuntu

11:50 PM
well, they don't care about betas, tho

UL is what AU uses as a trashcan when it comes to betas. i'm not sure if they like them or not.

@hbdgaf you just trow them there! HA!

Well.. we don't. Not since the migration paths have been disabled. /rant

actually, we are more cautious when migrating stuff...

i was more referring to the pro forma comment than a migration path

11:54 PM
only the mods migrate @Braiam
At least now that is.
@hbdgaf Ahhh. Yep. Definitely.

@Seth that doesn't mean that we don't migrate... SO had send us crap

I'm reading this article: help.ubuntu.com/10.04/serverguide/user-management.html Anyone know what External User Database Authentication is?

also, why can't humans empty drier lint filters after themselves. i must be a different genus...
2

@hbdgaf No kidding. That really bothers me too.

I learned a new word thanks to @hbdgaf
"genus" A group with common attributes.

11:56 PM
@JohnMerlino i haven't been in a big enough environment to need it, but it's making the DB use a radius db for auth or siimlar. that way the local machine has nothing to do with auth. it just runs the service and auth is centralized.

Q: How do I install Awesome Windows Manager in Terminal?

user1925224Right now I'm running on Kubuntu and I'd like to install Awesome Window Manager in terminal. I've used Xmonad but I'd like another window manager, but don't know how to install "Awesome" from the terminal.

@Braiam Seriously? I learned that, like, my 7th grade year. Biology class. Wish I hadn't. Where in the world are we going to use Biology unless you want to become a freaking doctor in it?

@UbuntuQuestionsonU&L sudo apt-get install awm. done

@RPiAwesomeness I don't think English is @Braiam's first language.

I'm quite sure it's not

11:58 PM
Oh gosh. @Braiam Sorry.

@hbdgaf bodhi answered it ;)

meh, don't worry, I know more slang than you @RPiAwesomeness

@Braiam this needs stars

@UbuntuQuestionsonU&L actually that Q has couple hours, just now Gilles retaged it
