couldn't agree more.
@JorgeCastro Yeah, OMG! needs a real sysadmin.
or just one smart guy.

I don't mean to start a flame war or anything... but Microsoft's Visual C++ compiler is orders of magnitude faster than Mingw-w32/64.
(At least on Windows.)
@GeorgeEdison This is absolutely correct. They also have a lot of symbols and things built in that VS just knows about and you have to manually add for mingw. Simple example is one of the bits in NCodehook. VS just knows about, iirc, a shift function that's found in ntdll. Mingw does not(I found it by accident while working on something else).
We need an open source C runtime library for Windows :P
We really need eclipse cross-compile support to windows on linux. Then all the odd-ball symbol fixing could occur in eclipse-cdt(simpler).
Not that I don't like code::blocks. I do. I mean I REALLY do.
I wonder what this is all about.
That seems interesting off-the-cuff, but it seems to me that most of their goals should be accomplished with pre-processor directives or IDE macros.

Q: Compiling FreeRTOS on ubuntu

Coder404How could I compile the FreeRTOS Source Code and run it (possibly on qemu) on ubuntu 11.04? Thanks

@GeorgeEdison You seem like quite the programmer. Do you have any thoughts on drawing with cairo? Specifically drawing an inverted image and flipping versus building in the logic to draw it right side up in the first place?
@jrg hmm, are the comments supposed to reload on their own?

I think it should

@jrg Your hosting company doesn't support rails?
jrg
jrg
@aking1012 Who doesn't support rails?
I user heroku for most of my stuff, they support rails...
22:42
I was asking. Even the blog example from railscasts supports dynamic comment updating iirc
jrg
jrg
@JorgeCastro so right now the answer is "no"
heh yeah
jrg
jrg
@aking1012 Oh, no. this is for the canned comments script.
extending other people's stuff is (almost) always more difficult than just doing what you want in the first place...but i think i grasp your problem
easy question -- how do I customize how often the machine time is synced with an ntp server?
22:51
@DavidPfeffer You're looking for minpoll and maxpoll manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/lucid/man5/ntp.conf.5.html
@aking1012 hey
now would be a good time to update this

Q: How do I setup a local NTP server?

KhaledI installed NTP server on Ubuntu Server 10.04 using: sudo apt-get install ntp The NTP daemon seems working and listening on the 123 port. However, I was not able to get the time from another machine: sudo ntpdate -u my_ntp_server 23 Nov 18:48:41 ntpdate[2990]: no server suitable for synchron...

@JorgeCastro valid point. it's in my do this bookmark list. when i hit a gap in the charting thing i'm working on i'll hit it
Seems like that applies to ntpd whereas I'm using openntpd, and I can't seem to find comparable options
@DavidPfeffer oh. my bad.
22:55
@DavidPfeffer ask it on the site yo
and I'll tweet it for you
@JorgeCastro on it
and go. :-)

Q: Customize the NTP poll rate

David PfefferI'm setting up Ubuntu on an embedded machine that runs over a cellular connection, where we pay per byte. The machine also has no RTC battery, so it starts from a random time every boot. I'd like to ensure that the time gets synced up when the cellular connection comes available so that log mess...

@aking1012 I'm afraid I've never used Cairo.
I've only used GTK once (in my WebP plugin) and PyGTK once (in StackApplet).
Okay. The gist of the conversation question/opinion is insert logic in to draw all image layers right side up or draw them all inverted and flip when required(cairo considers top-left to be coord x=0, y=0).

So if you're doing some graphing thing, x=0 being bottom left is infinitely more logical. I kind of want to draw everything right-side-up despite it being more calculations than flipping.

One introduces complexity in the drawing. The other introduces complexity on handling layers and compositing them.

Q: SSH login with clear text password as a parameter?

Michael MI need to login to a user that I've created on a remote host running Ubuntu. I can't use an ssh key because the ssh login will happen from a bash script ran within a server that I wont have access to (think continuous integration server like Bamboo). I understand this isn't an ideal practice, b...
