jrg
12:03 AM
so much to learn, so little time.

votes reset!
@jrg sometimes I feel like that too :(

jrg
when will i be able to do a apt-get install libcrypto on my brain? :P

or rm -rf /scarryMovie

jrg
that too.

or somethin similar

jrg
12:08 AM
children will come with SSH keys that only the parents know the private half.
listen to me, i'm arguing for the matrix. :P

haha, that would be interesting

jrg
child custody case? just remove the other parents private key from ~/.ssh/authorized_keys

remove the emotions chip.. remember that one?

jrg
heheh

well @oli what do you think of us now?

jrg
12:12 AM
the big problem with the infosec course on saylor is that it's almost entirely HTML resources.

HTML? great!

Oli
@iSeth eh?

@oli never mind. ;)

jrg
@iSeth not good for when i need to get it into pdf or mobi. :(

@jrg well, no I guess not... you get a lot of those line arrows
I hate those.

jrg
12:14 AM
it's just a cruddy situation.
it's almost 2013. i should be able to download a open courseware app, and say "giveth me my working materials" and it shall download and deliver them to me in bite size chunks spread out over X weeks.

oh, oops misread that
mobi maybe, but not pdf

jrg
so lets say i want to do it in a 1 week crash-course. it divides everything up into 7 sections.

html only works on computers
technically

jrg
or lets say i'm doing a full-time job, and i'd like to have a bit of fun informational reading every morning - i stick in 12 weeks and it gives me a bite-size every day.

that sounds cool

jrg
12:22 AM
any other open courseware type sites out there? i've got a long weekend ahead of me and figure that while i'm crashing through crypto i should consider snagging say, something else.

hmm khan academy is similar, but only K-12

jrg
looks like i have to have internet.

oh, yeah you do
well actually, they let you download them

jrg
i have a spare 2gb of space once all this is done, video is probably not an option. :P

that should be enough, the largest are 15min
I almost entered that
but MS' Javascript Libs were confusing..
oh not too mention you have to be 18 :(
sometimes you're mean @MS

jrg
12:50 AM
heh

1:19 AM
thats so funny
esp. the part about your legal rights

user19161
Hey @iseth I think you look a little like Justin Bieber, lol.

@JasperLoy please don't tell me that, I won't take it as a compliment :P
@JasperLoy don't you keep changing your name?

user19161
@iSeth We spoke before?

jrg
more than once.
under various names on your part @JasperLoy.

@JasperLoy I think so, but I can't place it

user19161
1:27 AM
@iSeth Were you iSeth then?

lets see, wait the dino told me I looked like bieber
@JasperLoy I have never appeared in chat as anything else

user19161
@iSeth Really? Actually I look like Bieber too, so we look alike, HAHAHAHAHAHA.

jrg
our friend "jasper" has appeared many times, under many names.

user19161
@jrg I see you have the same lovely pic!

@jrg I can tell, i've seen him before... lets see oh, wait pulls out laser cannons

jrg
1:28 AM
@JasperLoy haven't had a reason to change really.

@JasperLoy are you from another planet?

jrg
@iSeth whoa whao waho, put away the big guns man.

user19161
@iSeth Well, another sign is the steelblue.

user19161
@iSeth Well, I often feel I don't belong to this world...

jrg
don't we all?

1:30 AM
puts laser cannons away as long as your not Roland...

user19161
@jrg Really? You feel this way too?

jrg
@JasperLoy everyone does at one point or another.

user19161
@jrg OK, but some much more so than others of course.

@JasperLoy did you know that old names stay the same in chat?? bwhahahaha

jrg
calibre has failed me for the first time ever. i'm not sure what i should go do.

1:31 AM
@jrg Kaspersky told me it was a trojan

jrg
@iSeth i trust the ubuntu archives.

@jrg thats why I downloaded it again lol

user19161
@iSeth Yes I know.

jrg
@iSeth also, you trust the russians?

user19161
1:32 AM
@jrg Actually I think you look like Bieber too!

@jrg I don't trust the Americans... if that helps

jrg
@iSeth so what are you, a brit? ;)

Wow, I never knew bieber was so blue...

user19161
So jrg=iSeth=JL=JB, HAHAHAHAHAHA.

jrg
never knew bieber wore glasses.

1:33 AM
I've had the compliment insult before FYI

jrg
it's hardly a new one.

hmm Clark Kent.. I know him... Will Hunting... this is starting to get interesting

user19161
@iSeth You vanished from the other room.

you've been Jasper Loy before

user19161
Yes, I am also Will Hunting.

user19161
1:39 AM
I had an askubuntu account, but I deleted it.

great. my best resource

user19161
Where's dino? Gone to hunt?

he hasn't been here for awhile
I've heard you mention that before
brb

user19161
@iSeth Oh, let's not bring that up again.

@JasperLoy ok, I'm done I don't have time for this
of you want to tell me, do, if not don't
someone is coming to mind... but I really haven't been active a whole lot
I don't know what @jrg is referring to

user19161
1:47 AM
@iSeth You play chess?

@JasperLoy yes.
(as you can see)

jrg
since calbrie didn't convert those correctly, i'm going to go into a corner and cry.

@jrg I've done that before :'(

jrg
@iSeth this is saddening.

user19161
@jrg I am too sad to cry.

user19161
1:51 AM
I have cried till I have no tears left...

jrg
now thats melodramatic.

user19161
Hmm, I didn't know you were so young @jrg until I looked at your profile, LOL.

@JasperLoy can I know who you are now?

jrg
@iSeth don't bother. people have been trying for ages to get it out of him.

user19161
@iSeth Me? I am JL.

user19161
2:01 AM
WH and CK were just my hero identities.

what. ever. I don't think we've ever talked before, so I'll let it go.

user19161
@iSeth Whatever? I told you, I am JL, that's the truth.

OK.

user19161
WH and CK are just movie characters in case you didn't know.

yeah I know.

user19161
2:04 AM
Yeah, I ain't stealing someone else's identity...

user19161
I would not call myself Bill Gates for example, LOL.

nobody would believe you any way ;)

user19161
Well, who knows, BG might just come to this chat.

Well I have to go.

user19161
So he can these find out how to set up an Ask Windows!

user19161
2:09 AM
@jrg Are you enjoying your modship here?

user19161
Everyone's gone now, over and out!

@JasperLoy wait a sec, I found you

Hi all.
@iSeth Did you change your Gravatar?

2:27 AM
@jrg - you around?

user19161
@GeorgeEdison I remember you were always the duck!

The duck?
I was never a duck.

user19161
@GeorgeEdison Sorry, penguin!

Ah, yes - I have had the penguin for a very long time.

user19161
Then you put on the glasses.

user19161
2:31 AM
Then you put on that hat.

That's always a lot of fun.
I'm basically stuck here (I can't work on much) until Qt 5.0 finishes compiling.

hi @GeorgeEdison

qt 5 looks cool from the link you put up!
they said "JSON" will that eliminate the need for qjson?

2:39 AM
Awesome!

i know @GeorgeEdison would have loved not to have had compilation issues for qjson...iirc he hated those issues
4

I sure did :)
Even more good news - I'm switching over to CMake from qmake - which will ease compilation on all platforms - Mac included.

me to. that made a few bumps for the mac version.

It will take care of building shared libraries and linking them against the executable.
I'm also dropping qxmlrpc since I will be moving most of the core network functionality into a shared library that any C or Python app can use.

@GeorgeEdison oh, that will ease the process for the ppc

user19161
2:42 AM
Today I was downvoted for providing a complete solution on math because the voters thought I should only give hints, sad right?

user19161
On other days, I am downvoted for providing hints because they thought I should give complete solutions...
4

user19161
So RAGEQUIT!

nothing wrong with ragequit...as long as you mean it

@GeorgeEdison I made a "development" branch on GitHub

Oh, okay. great.

user19161
2:47 AM
@AbrahamVanHelpsing Whoa, I could do with some consolation intead of that. =)

honesty sir...honesty

@GeorgeEdison do you think this should be converted to a question bugs.launchpad.net/nitroshare/+bug/1089947 , I was thinking about hitting that button, but I don't want the power to go to my head.

@mateo_salta No, go right ahead.
Qt 5.0 supports a lot of C++11 features.

since configuring ufw solved it, no bug there
ok, done

2:58 AM
@JasperLoy do you live in germany?
@GeorgeEdison Yes, my hats didn't fit

user19161
@iSeth Nope, I don't. Why?

@JasperLoy Never mind. ;)

user19161
@iSeth What's your name anyway? You look like a John to me, LOL.

@JasperLoy Seth.

John Jacob Jinglehammerschmidt

user19161
3:01 AM
@iSeth Ah! Interesting name...

user19161
@mateo_salta That's BS!

that is a fun song...
his name is my name too :) Whenever we go out, the people always shout...

BBL

user19161
@iSeth Why do you call yourself iSeth? Are you an Apple fan?

3:15 AM
Can anyone recommend a good monitor brand?

user19161
Well, go to all the shops and look at all the prices and specs.

user19161
Brands don't mean much.

Sure they do - some brands are poor quality.

got this for a friend for a computer build, looked really nice tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/…
sold out... but they have the next size up.

It looks great except... we actually bought a BenQ monitor once before and had to have it repaired when the power bar shorted out.
Thankfully it was still under warranty.

3:22 AM
still, is a process you don't want to go through.

@JasperLoy idk I couldn't think of anything else
brands do mean a lot

user19161
@iSeth Haha, you can just use Seth then! =)

@JasperLoy well, I guess... maybe I'll change it. Anybody have suggestions?

Maybe I should get two of these.

@GeorgeEdison Samsung is a good brand.

3:24 AM
we have had a Samsung 22 inch, still going strong for about 5 years.
@iSeth I agree
I use a AOC as well, It has been nice, but had to use custom xorg because it can't do the dynamic sync thing...

The only problem is the inputs - I only have VGA and HDMI output on my video card.
(Well, I also have S-Video but let's not go there.)
So I need one monitor with VGA input and another with HDMI input.

@GeorgeEdison almost everything has VGA
oh, now I get it...

Right - so that will be fine for the first monitor.
But for the second...

buy a 32 inch hdtv with hdmi.

user19161
3:27 AM
@iSeth Yes, I suggest you use Seth.

@iSeth Clever!

@JasperLoy BTW I am NOT an apple fan FYI
;)
almost every moniter has both vga and dvi

So all I need to do is pocket two of those and get an adapter. Nice.

I think I spelled that wrong

I'm not sure this desk is big enough :P
3
I might need to buy a new desk too :P

user19161
3:29 AM
@iSeth I use Debian now, not Ubuntu.

@JasperLoy interesting. May I ask why?

user19161
@iSeth Because I prefer using independent distros, and also because it really does feel more stable, and also because I dislike Unity shell.

@JasperLoy OK. There are alternatives to unity, but I understand.

user19161
@iSeth Yes, I know you can install gnome-shell, ...

The Cubieboard came in!

3:35 AM
@JasperLoy and Kde and Xfce and Lxce and Cinnamon :P

user19161
@iSeth And mate, and Seth. =)

haha
I'm sorry, but I have to go again.

3:52 AM
Precise doesn't ship with CMake 2.8.8+ ???
Weird.
I suppose I can throw it in a PPA.

back for a bit

well later all

4:24 AM
@MarcoCeppi Hey guys, look at this hat: http://winterba.sh/and-i-feel-fine

It is great and funny, nice picture also, I'm still alive.. actually im feeling more alive after earning it hahah

4:34 AM
Hi @Lucio ;)
haha
well, night folks

user19161
@iSeth Good night!

7:02 AM
o/ Hi

2 hours later…
jrg
9:28 AM
@AbrahamVanHelpsing: sorry, if you want to get ahold of me for stuff you should probably email me between now and new years. :P
@JasperLoy shrug it has its ups and downs... but its overall fun. :)

9:44 AM
@Takkat Yay Takkat is a mod now

:) ty @jokerdino

Have fun :)
When did it happen?

a Pro Tem stepped back on German beta so I was asked... still have to get used to it ;P

You'll do fine. I am sure of it.

congrats @Takkat

9:54 AM
thanks :)

@jokerdino - how is "the app" progressing?

yeah, it's kinda half way there :P

anything yet to play with?

we managed to split it into a couple of files.
Yeah, some of the backend works.

what did you decide on to do the split?

9:58 AM
the glade file was getting too big (was 7k long before we split) and the main py file was almost 1k
so, that was the deciding factor
if you have time, you can download the zip and play with the main.py file

you are ready for feedback? happy to - will fire-up a VM over the weekend and test it out.
... that's assuming that we are still here :P
wow lots of branches - what's going on?

10:30 AM
So ... How's doomsday going?

all dead - no one is left

sadface

11:21 AM
Aw.

12:18 PM
@fossfreedom Darn, power cut.
@fossfreedom We are in very active development :P

I bet you thought that was the start of the end ... :P

I hope to limit to 10 active branches :P

Yeah, sure

what elements of glade would make up the left and right side of that screenshot

12:21 PM
There are only two sides to that image right?
the album list on the left and the rest of them on the right

yep

I can only see two boxes :P
probably a treeview or some sort

looks like you click the artist and you should see all their albums on the right side - probably scrolling.
can you do pictures in a treeview? - only aware of the iconview

not sure about embedding images.
if anything, it looks just like gnome-control-center search page
icons on the left and names on the right. clicking on them loads the panel in the same viewport though
but since I know so little about glade and gtk in general, you might need an expert's opinion on this.

maybe viewport with a one column iconview + some sort of grid box for the tracks?

12:29 PM
that sounds like it.
very sure it is just a fancy grid on the right. probably two levels of grids.
if you manage to do it, let me know :P

think you are right - box/grid for the album name and second grid for the tracks.
hey - thanks for being a sounding board :P

my pleasure :P
btw, do you know anything about word wrapping in labels or toolbuttons?

no - we are moving towards iconbuttons - makes it easier to visualise and also then we can just use tooltips for translation stuff.
... this is gtk2 - there would be a very similar gtk3 version I would imagine stackoverflow.com/questions/2823689/…

nice
i'll use that.

1 hour later…

Q: PPTP server with NIC aliases

hatimI have set up a VPN on a VPS Server using PPTP. I have one NIC with two aliases. eth0 eth0:1 eth0:2 The 3 interfaces have public addresses. eth0 is a French IP, eth0:1 is UK, and eth0:2 is American. Good Night

@AmithKK nights

@JasperLoy I finally understand that Jasper Loy is not another Will Hunting... lol

Can anyone take a look at this question? I think it's worth trying to reproduce the issue, and if it's a valid issue, it belongs on Launchpad.

He was, for some time.

Q: Is gvfs capable of connecting to WebDAV shares with Digest authentication?

epsicotOn Ubuntu 12.04 I try to connect to a WebDAV share on the local network, from Nautilus. This works with cadaver and davfs (both of which seem to depend on a library called neon to do their work). However it does not work with gvfs: Nautilus displays 'Error: not a WebDAV-enabled share'. On the ...

Also, if that would do better on AU than SU, please let me know and I'll get an SU mod to migrate it. As far as quality and uniqueness, it certainly seems to fit the criteria of a question worthy of migration, unless it's fine staying on SU...

Geez. So many Ubuntu questions on SU today. Makes me think that people don't even know about AU... need to get the word out about AU. We haven't been off topic VTCing the Ubuntu questions on SU; quite the opposite, but still... there's a dedicated site about Ubuntu, people!

Just what I expected from Roland
@allquixotic Make a community ad for AU on SU

@iSeth good idea, but how?

@MarcoCeppi hats
hats

@Aarthi HATS.

5:38 PM
@MarcoCeppi haaaaaaats

Hats indeed.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHHAATSSS

I demand more of you wear hats

WHERE ARE YOUR HATS PEOPLE

my kitty cat gravatar has a hat on SuperUser

5:39 PM
You guys are like #4-5 overall in awarded hats

why don't hats appear on the mini-gravatars in chat?

performance and dev time
3
A: Can we wear hats in chat?

AarthiSorry, I'm going to have to status-declined this. There wasn't a good way of implementing this without certain site functions taking a big hit. Also remember: chat.stackoverflow.com is the same size as the entire chat.stackexchange.com. Hats are an extra javascript overlay that takes a minute to ...

rofl

always performance... pff... OpenCL-accelerated image scaling ftw

5:41 PM
@Aarthi Why don't moderators automagically get all the hats?
it's no fun if I can't cheat :(

bilinear does quite well on ~1024 CUDA cores... divy up the image into a bunch of small squares, submit the bits over DMA transfer, wait a little, tada
maybe next year \o/

@MarcoCeppi rofl cheater

I'm about to get the police hat, yay

woop

I love how the howdy pardner hat covers my cat's eyes :D :D
you can't see just how dubiously he is looking at you

5:45 PM
appropriate.
kbai~ ;)

@Aarthi it's sad, I've been a moderator since the dawn of AU, so I've never actually ever really flagged anything :(

what does a moderator flag status of "disputed" mean?
I've seen helpful and rejected, but never disputed, before

@MarcoCeppi aw poor bb

71
Q: What is a disputed flag?

BrandonIn my flagging summary under the statistics, there is 1 flag listed as being disputed with the footnote † do not affect your flag weight This is the first time I've ever seen a disputed flag in my summary, so I'm just curious, what is a disputed flag? How would you even dispute a flag? Is ...

oh ok
it was because it was edited then
...the edit was just for minor grammar >_>
