good night guys :))
@jrg Nah, It didnt get allotted to me :D
@jokerdino cya
jrg
jrg
@AmithKK ah i see.
@jokerdino cya
woohoo - we are free of the wrong ubuntus! \o/
anyone currently on windows?
or feel like looking @ this on Chrome or FF in windows jsfiddle.net/aR273
16:04
updating my w7 vm
jrg
jrg
@rlemon give me a few minutes and i'll reboot.
basically the nice styling of the select is lost in windows and you see the basic white input - but with white text... :(
makes me a sad panda
i'm already adding
option { background: inherit; } to circumvent Chrome issues on linux.
works with the ie
installing ff and chrome
looks ok in chrome
and ff
no white on white
chrome + windows on two pc's at work now have white on white (not for the open list, for the closed select list)
the foo bar hello world list?
closed?
its white on black in my w7 vm - ie, opera, chrome, ff.
jrg
jrg
16:14
and then white on black
@jrg You have mod powers?
Cool :D
jrg
jrg
@AmithKK i have mod powers?
@jrg Yes, Yes you do 10k+
Global Rep
on SE
jrg
jrg
i'm confused.
@jrg yup - that is what I see in Chrome on windows7/xp
jrg
jrg
16:16
ok, so what does that get me?
@jrg Ability to dispute chat flags
jrg
jrg
@rlemon ok. want my IE thing?
Sigh.... :D
jrg
jrg
@AmithKK and how useful is this?
what is that?
16:17
@jrg Depends on you :P
@jrg when I get flagged for 'offensive' material when really i'm posting a link to the greatest website on the internet... you can dispute them.
jrg
jrg
@rlemon looks the same in IE 9
@AmithKK i see
so breaks in IE 10 is what you are saying.
jrg
jrg
i'm sorry, I JUST DONT SEE HOW USEFUL THIS IS
No. I don't have 10 installed
lol
you said 10
i swear i saw ten
16:18
@rlemon He edited it
y u edit them make me feel like i'm crazy!
jrg
jrg
I did. then i edited it after i realized my mistake. :P
@AmithKK ok?
don't think that will like 192.168.x.x
:P
i mean... i can try
anything?? :P
@rlemon No,
16:20
works well for me... i don't know what your problem could be.
Forward the ports to outernet
@rlemon Give me a plane ticket to your house, Ill try there (j/k)
it's cool. it's a simple feature I can reproduce.
@jrg @rlemon is that with windows' fancy 3d theme (aero?) enabled? i use classic look in my vm...
jrg
jrg
Yeah, the fancy thing
16:24
@jrg aero?
jrg
jrg
yeah
that
would be very weird if that's the reason for the different observations.
ok, i love tracking down problems... makes me feel closer to getting them solved.
@htorque But, It is
i'll go verify - i got a windows xp machine around here.
16:25
not sure i can enable aero in vbox
jrg
jrg
i'm on windows for another 20 minutes or so, then i'm shutting it down again. :P
i need to wait for 24 important updates to install :D
+ configure on shutdown + configure on boot :D
jrg
jrg
and then it'll tell you about more updates
hehe
jrg
jrg
You think i'm joking
16:27
no
i know windows well enough. unfortunately.
:D

Q: Is there a way to hide single bookmarks or bookmark folders in Google Chrome (or Chromium)?

htorqueIn Opera I can choose to hide bookmarks and bookmark folders from the bookmark bar, is this also possible with Google Chrome or Chromium? As a workaround I put all the bookmarks I don't want to see in a separate folder within a folder that's on the bookmark bar. The "Other Bookmarks" folder is ...

crickets → answer = no.
ok verified also broken on Chrome 16 / WinXP SP3
that kinda sucks
@rlemon then i suggest installing it in a vm :P
what do you mean?
i'm trying to fix some css here
jrg
jrg
Another downvote without reasons. Ugh
@rlemon then add a note "optimized for use in a virtual machine" :P
16:29
I like getting downvotes, it means I can fix my answers even more.
@htorque and make all my users log into a VM - to log into Chrome - to log into my app/
@rlemon correct!
jrg
jrg
I appreciate downvotes - I just want a constructive downvoter. :) AKA a commenter
16:30
@rlemon but seriously, i'd like to know why it works in vbox. :-?
@htorque Because its linux underneath
i doubt that :P
that is odd to me... does the VM share dependencies at all??
is your Chrome /.config somehow being used for your vm chrome?
@rlemon nope that's completely separated
Windows works better on Linux.
Ohhhhh I forgot! you have Unicorns in your system... How silly of me to forget, I put them there!
btw... you're welcome!
16:36
BB
16:53
hello from an airplane over Oklahoma!
o/
don't make it crash with your electronical device on :P
17:04
heh
Bah, got Marco'ed while I was searching for a dupe but he beat me to it
> Assembling Service Pack. Do not turn off your computer.
well, i just turned it on...
17:23
guys, when you use ssh-copy-id -i 'absolute-path-to-file.pub' it should copy just that key to the authorized_keys on the server right?
jrg
jrg
no
coz I just tried that, and it copied all the public keys present in my .ssh directory to the authorized_keys file on the remote machine
@jrg explain please?
@jrg it's only 5 new updates \o/
@JorgeCastro You just got Marco'd! And it's @jrg's fault!
Is there a derivative that uses a Rolling Release model? http://askubuntu.com/questions/97861/is-there-a-derivative-that-uses-a-rolling-release-model #derivatives
17:32
And of course it was tweeted
* shakes fist at sky
@JorgeCastro Shouldn't that be offtopic?
@jrg oh come on... after the second reboot there is still one more important update. i'm so glad i switched to linux. what a crap!
@MarcoCeppi I tried to save it with an edit
instead of "is it possible" this one can at least have an answer
Might be a better fit for the forums tho
yeah, "is it possible" questions are a bit problematic with open source software
17:52
is it safe to delete the ~/.ssh/known_hosts file if you want to hit the reset button on ssh and generate new keys and copy them to your ssh-servers?
jrg
jrg
Yes
@htorque Wonderful isn't it?
ok, that was either the greatest thing i've ever eaten, or the worst. Fried canned ham (not spam)
@jrg so that way even though i authenticated an old key using Gnome-keyring would become useless right? I mean without logging out? Or should I be logging out and logging back in?
jrg
jrg
Ok.
deep-fried mars bar.
do want.
jrg
jrg
~/.ssh/known_hosts does a few things
it keeps the rsa keys of an ssh server to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks
and thats about it actually. :P
@htorque oh no that sounds evil. *_*
17:57
@jrg Roger that! Sounds good :)
i sounds like a million calories. :D
jrg
jrg
A deep-fried Mars bar is an ordinary Mars bar normally fried in a type of batter commonly used for deep-frying fish, sausages, and other battered products. The chocolate bar is typically chilled before battering to prevent it from melting into the frying fat, though a cold Mars can fracture when heated. The dish originated at chip shops in Scotland as a novelty item, but was never mainstream. Since various mass media have reported on the practice since the mid 1990s, in part as a commentary on urban Scotland's notoriously unhealthy diet, the popularity of the dish has spread. History It...
"One phone call to a local paper with a quirky story transformed - in the space of just a few days - a bit of fun between a chip shop owner and some local children in a Scottish fishing town into a global cultural and gastronomic phenomenon."
scots know everything about healthy food (they just stay away from it). :P
18:13

anyone here uses Tor?
@wisemonkey sure, maybe I can help
nice I wanted to find links having some more information / tutorials (the one which can be understoof relatively easily)
understood*
for what, install, removal, config? the page from tor is a gem on information
19:27
hmm I'm reading page from tor only but one thing I can't understand: -- if I install from Download link on home page is it applicable to all traffic going/coming to computer
or is it tor browser only?
yea after download it says tor browser
there are 2 ideas of tor, 1 is system wide and involves you configuring your system to use tor as a proxy, that goes for all traffic
or you can configure tor only for 1 program, ie firefox
thats it what you are seeing atm
OMG ELECTIONS
8
after you install tor you can configure your system to use tor as a proxy
or only your browser
19:32
ohh ok so after I download and install at configuration I can say its a system wide
I'll try thanks :)
@wisemonkey the browser plug-in adds a nice button to enable/disable tor on firefox, that does not mean the system is using it or that if you press the button it will enable/disable system wide settings, that is only for the browser and nothing else. You can tell Ubuntu to use your tor installation as a proxy for all traffic
yea looks like I've button, I will read about configuring tor for ubuntu
@JorgeCastro next time please mount the camera (or ask the guys to) somewhere else! during the unity customization part 70% of the time there was ppl in front of it! :)
jrg
jrg
@JorgeCastro yes, elections.
@jrg I am assuming I will see your face on the list? ;)
jrg
jrg
19:36
@BrunoPereira someone is holding kittens hostage right now, so probably unless I can rescue them before then. ;)
@jrg Oo? :D
yea I'll definitely go for system wide config "Aurora (FF beta)" kills my system :P
That can be a problem, beta ftw ;)
for some reason beta FF takes up all CPU :-/
@BrunoPereira oh I didn't know the talk was recorded! Link?!
19:42
@JorgeCastro I don know it either, I watched real time
Where is elections link
jrg
jrg
@rlemon nothing up yet
@JorgeCastro @BrunoPereira I've been trying to find out if the talks were recorded
@BrunoPereira: Is this a good place to start? : help.ubuntu.com/community/Tor (I'm using 11.10 and its not listed there)
@StefanoPalazzo is there going to be a meta post?
@wisemonkey looks very good explained
19:47
ok cool then will start from there :) thanks
@wisemonkey ping me anytime or drop a question on the main, Iĺl try to help if Im around

Q: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64bit only showing 2.9GB of memory

JamieI have installed ubuntu 10.04 lts (64bit) on my lenovo thinkpad X60 (Core 2 Duo T5600). I installed 4gb of ram before installing ubuntu, but when I check the available memory in Ubuntu it says that only 2.9gb is installed. I have checked the bios and it shows the full 4gb of ram. Any help with th...

ooh I've a blog post answering that issue
I'm gonna brag :D
Is this too much editing? askubuntu.com/a/97705/25863
jsfiddle.net/rlemon/8G42h/2 @jrg does that fix the problem for you as well?
jrg
jrg
@BrunoPereira is it the correct answer?
@jrg yeah he can enable it there
jrg
jrg
20:19
@rlemon what problem?
@BrunoPereira then I'd say its fine
remember the css issue i was having earlier windows + ie/chrome
select.ui-state-default {
    background-image: none !important;
    background-color: auto !important;
}
I don't believe in "too much editing" :)
appears to be the solution for chrome + windows at least.
@JorgeCastro just dont want to change the original answer too much, but in this case he had it right!
Oh wow, mod tools have moved around a lot, looks better but still need to look around a bit, a guy blinks his eyes for a week and everything moves ahead!
@BrunoPereira I'm converting that question
20:34
@MarcoCeppi askubuntu.com/questions/95776/… is done already
just remove the "answers"
I did
ugh, nvm.
Also, please don't delete the text from the answers
@MarcoCeppi sure. i'll let you fix it for now else it will not help at all.
Naw, go ahead and finish
going for it then
if i'm working in branch development and I want to push to stable should I A) just push what I have to stable or B) merge development with stable
20:40
Bounty offered: Application-specific key combination remapping? http://askubuntu.com/questions/97213/application-specific-key-combination-remapping #shortcutkeys
anyone??
basically I just want my stable and development branches to be the same (as dev is currently stable)
is that a merge or just push the same repo to both branches.
git push origin development
git push origin stable
Merge, then push
git checkout stable; git merge development; git push origin stable
sweet thanks
Otherwise you overwrite everything in stable with development and bypass merging any hotfixes that may have taken place in stable
20:55
Is there an answer in this big text of information? askubuntu.com/a/97862/25863
jrg
jrg
21:16
umm.... i can't find anything
@jrg there is a half answer:

"but here is a solution.

the installer should ask for a starting resolution. (if you say now then it must start at legacy reso, 640x480 , with a message. if the screen stays blank for more than 10seconds, hit the space bar to go to 600x800. some distributions do this, now."
jrg
jrg
i see
@BrunoPereira: looks like I successfully got Tor working
@jrg its lame, I know. Dont want to downvote that full body of lost memories and troubleshooting exp ;)
@wisemonkey great! got it smooth, took me more time to do it when I did ;)
but now google thinks I'm in some European country and provide me with errors as : "Домен Stackexchange.com хоче отримати інформаці..."
hehe yea I can imagine the way I was stumbling
21:22
@wisemonkey that is tor working alright ;)
yup :)
ohh yea I've noticed though that clicking on links doesn't work
however if I copy paste a link then it works
jrg
jrg
@BrunoPereira hehe.
@wisemonkey I think it has something to do with the addon for firefox, also had that problem at start, cant figure out what happened in the mean while :S
jrg
jrg
21:25
I found it hard to believe I was running Precise, and then i realized that my updates were going to take a long long time. :P
ohh well no issue I can middle click or copy paste I hardly open a link in same tab anyways :P
21:56
how do i change which branch i'm currently adding / committing too
when I merged development and stable it kept me in stable.
:S
jrg
jrg
git checkout $branchname
right?
hrmm... possibly just a cache issue
hrmm... ok now.. I did not realize I was working in the stable branch... from the stable branch I ran
git add *
git commit -am 'blah'
git push origin development
then ` git checkout stable; git merge development; git push origin stable `
now stable has the latest code, but development does not.
nevermind... fixed it.
:P
@JorgeCastro There should be an announcement on the site itself in a weeks time
22:23
night all
22:42
ugh... i copied my master branch to 'stable' when i split it up for 'stable' vs 'development' branches... now my participation is all messed up and it's taking participation from when i did the copy.
i did not think of this.....
23:06
@rlemon To get the latest from stable in to development
git checkout development; git merge stable
23:26
Bounty offered: How do I remove the messaging menu? http://askubuntu.com/questions/97310/how-do-i-remove-the-messaging-menu #messagingmenu
23:54
@MarcoCeppi no but i physically removed master before I started merging things... hehe ohh well.
