12:15 AM
anyone know where can I get new and shiny gedit?
I don't use it much but looked pretty :P

Hey, I am having a crazy issue with my keyboard all of a sudden...
Can someone tell me how to get a listing of all key-mappings?
(shortcuts, bindings, ??)

system settings --> keyboard

I've looked there... but there's no indication that SHIFT-p is mapped to invoke "sh -c xterm"
I've also looked in CCSM
Yet, whenever I hit SHIFT-p (or SHIFT-w-w, for that matter), "sh -c xterm" is invoked...
And I have no idea of how this has happened. Just started today...

lol for me its just big letters P and W

weird, right? It's strange... I cannot type a capital-p or a capital w...!!
How can I find out where this silliness is happening?

12:23 AM
can u try it after restart if still persists check preferences for sh -c xterm
no idea but I would check preferences for invoking xterm itself

Yes, I have restarted... twice...

o.O

preferences for invoking xterm??
as in the .desktop file?
There's no shortcut setting in the desktop file...

sorry I never have used xterm

No.. xterm is not the issue...
xterm is just what is invoked when I press these 2 keys...
And, in the case of the w... it's not SHIFT-w... but SHIFT-w-w (I have to press w twice while holding shift down)...
Ok... thanks.

12:28 AM
hmm do u remember after wat the problem started etc. ?

The only thing of significance was that I told update-manager to install updates (which it was notifying me of)...

ouch then hard to debug

consequently, regardless of which program I am in... (or if no program is running and I am only at the desktop) I cannot type capital p or capital w...
Yes.. it is driving me batty...
Ok... i'll go search some more...
thanks!

hehe hope someone more knowledgeable can help u, until then :P WW

Did I just get kicked or something?

@oli, I finally resolved it...
I had played around with xbindkeys several weeks back...
And had disabled it from autostarting... then, today, I did a mass-enabling of everything in the autostart directory... without remembering that it was one of the items.
Was just trying to do some housecleaning... LOL
@jrg, do you know how to remove a question, once asked?

jrg
2:10 AM
@TheGeeko61 which question is this?

I had asked a question on AskUbuntu... about my keyboard issue. But, I have resolved it...

TheGeeko61I am using Gnome3/Gnome Shell/Ubuntu 11.10. Today, when I began using my machine, it would not co-operate with me. The issue has led to a better question will I will re-pose...

@TheGeeko61 you can self answer.
You have your solution (The xbindkeys thing), so just hit the "answer" button and write it out.

Yes I did it as a comment... so, I should write it as an answer, then. OK. Will do.
Thanks for the advice.

@OctavianDamiean I might have to consider that book (I'm considering getting a Python book over the holidays because I'm tired of getting older copies at the library and having to worry about late fees)
I've always been curious about Python, especially since as I understand it a lot of Ubuntu applications are written in it
So far from what I've been doing with it, I wrote a simple chess club ranking application in it for my mom to use (she's a coach), and I'm thinking of transferring my artificial life hobby project over to pygame

can anyone help me fix wireless connection?

@Templar What's wrong?

Q: Can't connect to wireless after making computer sleep on Ubuntu 10.04

TemplarIt's not first time I can't connect to wireless when I make computer sleep however in previous cases it was enough just restart system and it worked however now it doesn't work even after restart. It's not problem with wireless network since when I boot into windows wireless works perfectly.

@Templar have you tried turning off networking and re-connecting?

i turned off router and turned it on
or u mean something else?

12:23 PM

@AmithKK I've seen that picture all over Memebase, too...it's really getting around

@Templar try clicking the networking button in the top bar, unchecking "Enable Networking", elave a few seconds, the re-enable

I don't see enable networking
but i was clicking disconnect
and then reconnect after few seconds

its different for me
do u have 10.04 too?

12:37 PM
Nope, that's on 11.10 but I'm pretty sure that menu has always been there
I always uncheck and check the Enable Networking option whenever I have wifi problems

well I have this menu but its a bti different
you have list of available connections then VPN connections then connect to hidden wireless netwrok and then create new wireless network

well, see if you can disable networking in the settings page

idk
but it was disabled when it was turned off lol

@jokerdino Did you mean: Windows pirated

I already have Windows pirated. I want Ubuntu pirated :))

javascript does not run in chromium 15.0.874.121 if you refresh the page when the console is open.... ouch.

@JorgeCastro sorry for the delay, but no, I'm not seeing an error in syslog yet I am getting a command error from sudo mount -a

works here

4:29 PM
yea if the console is open and i refresh the page stays white and the little doodad on the top keeps spinning like its loading.

hmm,

@MarcoCeppi got a minute to talk charms?

@JorgeCastro Yes!

hey so I am thinking a more targetted approach from now on
right now it's like "write a charm"
So I'm going to pick like 3 a week
and say it's "the hitlist"
and then mix up the list like a song playlist

ok this is pissing me off now: what are some reasons I would get the following error when trying to mount an nfs network drive:

mount.nfs: access denied by server while mounting 128.251.108.122:Systems

fstab config line:
128.251.108.122:Systems /home/me/uslonsnas001 nfs async,rw,hard,intr 0 0

missing a slash?

tried it with and without

5:11 PM
Shouldn't it be128.251.108.122:/Systems /home/me/uslonsnas001 nfs async,rw,hard,intr 0 0
I mean after the :

mount.nfs: access denied by server while mounting 128.251.108.122:/Systems
i knew what you meant ;)

@JorgeCastro So, three charms a week?

highlghting 3 a week
more like committing to 3 a week overall
rather than 3 every week
so if like, someone does one
but the other 2 are in progress, we keep those 2 on the list and then just talk about some of the stuff they still need to be finished, etc.

Interesting

jrg
ok, time to finish that rails charm.

5:17 PM
and the web interface to my network drive shows that NFS is enabled for the 'Systems' share point

@jrg I know the feeling, phpMyAdmin charm should finally be done today
The holidays are finally allowing for more free time

jrg
@MarcoCeppi Whats even sadder is that this charm is so... simple it should have been done months weeks ago.
since I was trying to have it compile ruby on it's own, and etc etc etc.

ok so should I just pick three?

jrg
(which isn't actually needed)

and then instead of a "free for all" for charms
every week I pick three.
and then people yell dibs

5:24 PM
cool idea

Q: How to import Chromium Browser-Data to Chrome

rlemonIn Chrome under Settings -> Personal Stuff, I am given the option to 'Import Data from Another Browser..'. However Chromium is not displayed as an option... Is the only way to do this to sync with my Google account? Is there an offline way to copy over the data? Or a workaround that does not ...

jrg
@rlemon not on Ubuntu right now, so I can't verify the exact paths in my answer.
but it'll work

cool.
i'll check it out now.
I was surprised I couldn't find this question already asked.
Google's online sync is a nice idea.... If I wanted google to have even more of my data.

jrg
6:42 PM
I use Google's online sync, since they already control my email, i figured i might as well toss in everything else. :P

:D

you can encrypt your on their server, it's a checkbox when you set up the sync
jrg's solution works
and I usually create a symlink

@jrg yeah, they can better decide what's best for you, if they know everything. :P

so that both chrome and chromium use the same profile

jrg
+1 for the symlink idea.

6:45 PM
I don't even know why i'm keeping chromium
it's been nothing but headaches for me since I started using it.

jrg
I keep them both around - chrome stable, chromium "nightly"

That what I was going to start doing... exactly that setup :P
chromium 'stable' has too many bugs
and obscure / pain in my @$$ bugs
@JorgeCastro if you got a few minutes can you provide a quick answer to my post describing how I would do this? (or at least point me where I would find the information)

jrg
@rlemon hangon

it's just symlinking .chromium to .chrome

jrg
i'll update my answer with that.

6:48 PM
jrg will add it to his answer as we speak
I knew it!

lol
thanks guys
@jrg my directory was google-chrome FYI
cp -R ~/.config/chromium ~/.config/google-chrome appears to have worked.

jrg
@rlemon thanks
updated that too
Not bad.
i <3 you now Google. :P

yea the only thing the ~/.config/ does not contain is extensions..

jrg
Not sure where those are

they are in the 'Default' folder under 'Extensions' however when I CP the directory in the extensions are not copied.
did I run the cp correctly/
nope - i guess I didn't.
rdl@rdl-ubuntu-work:~/.config$ cp -R chromium google-chromed copies 'chromium' folder into google-chrome
how would i circumvent that

7:02 PM
this Uri guy always leaves comments instead of answers

We should invite him to the UDS and show him how to use AU.

@JorgeCastro awesomeness.

7:07 PM
@jrg, thanks dude! worked like a charm (after I corrected that copy error - and oddly enough I had to clear my cache to view some CDN files - like AU images / css )

jrg
Also, does that mean the one next year for 13.04 will be in Florida again, or will it be outside the US? I'm asking because I can't really get to a UDS outside the US easily without one of my parents coming with me, which isn't always an option.

What are the chances a UDS will hit canada?

@jrg it usually alternates between europe and the US, this is the first time it's gone US back-2-back

jrg
@JorgeCastro OK.

@rlemon there was one in Montreal a while back
