Hey @StefanoPalazzo

10:13 AM

Have you gotten around using NCurses in Python?

no, not yet
I don't really see the point of it to be honest

@StefanoPalazzo Check this : people.rit.edu/jkm2972/arduino-rgb.py
Its awesome!

very clean code, nice
it controls LEDs?

a single RGB led

10:18 AM
right

And the Arduino side code is:
It could be better commented
Actually, there is noticable lag, so you have to increase the baud of the serial
@StefanoPalazzo Have you ever made a TVBGONE?

nope. I've never been too interested in hardware

Its awesome sausm'

I <3 software :)

Try pointing a TVB into a TV showroom
Manager: WHAT THE !$!$@

10:23 AM
I can get excited about this kind of thing:
that is pretty fantastic (it's called "Blinkenlights", a temporary installation in berlin)

Nice

people could play games on it via their mobile phones as well

Your in Sweden?

not yet, no
germany (:
(berlin is the capital)

Ok, how much doe a Solar Panel Cost there (avg.)

10:25 AM
I haven't got a clue

I hear that German's like free electricity :P

Maybe. I know some people who have solar panels on their roofs.
it's actually less than free. they sell electricity back to the utility company. and they also get subsidised by the government.
if you've got a big system, you can make a profit from it in a couple of years

O.o

and save the earth (:

Hmm how can i Intrest my older cousin to ubuntu

I just need to make it send the rgb vals

I'm so going to buy one when they get released.

no way, ty

200 dollars for such a beast is almost nothing.

3:11 PM
Just another Raspberry Pi

they all make seemingly crazy claims for how low the price will be
as did Linutop, if you remember that one
it was supposed to cost 100$, it's now at 280 euros (380 dollars)

@OctavianDamiean well... what would you do with it?
and how exactly can it run mac os x?
because I've never heard of mac/ios with a quad core 1.2 ghz cpu...

@Alvar I think that means something different
they'll offer a virtualised system that you can run on Windows, Mac and Linux,
for developers

DOH

3:26 PM
yeah...
it's not my day today...
been studying math all afternoon..
I just made a really silly mistake...

I've got to go. feel free to destroy my server until I get back: jrc.plzz.de
I like cleaning up the wreckage ;)

@OctavianDamiean majorerror

I so NEED a Domain and EC2

@AmithKK The Urumi is not yet released.

jrg
@AmithKK why do you need a domain and ec2 instance?

@jrg You know, just to mess around :P .

4:29 PM
@AmithKK buy it and then you have it

I need a domain too.
jokerdino.com would be good :p

jrg
Domains - overrated. :P

That is quite pricey to just mess around.

I need a server for my domain..

Go get a kodingen.com account to mess around.

jrg
4:29 PM
Agreed with @Octavian.
yeah, just get a cheap VPS somewhere.
if (and this is a big if) you actually need something like that.

buy --domain&&EC2inst --money bacc-alvar --name www.amithkk.com

Either that, or like I said, checkout kodingen.

@OctavianDamiean Oh, nice!

Sorry can't vote for you @OctavianDamiean

is this where I should be going to get the FF nightly builds?

Hey guys
Left a question in the Web Dev room if anyone is here

basically I'm wondering if there is an easier way of getting the FF nightly builds rather than downloading the tar from nightly.mozilla.org every update.

@StefanoPalazzo around?
looks like it might be merge time again

Sweet, wish they would have just opened a merge proposal

hmm somebody sent me a message is there a way to know wat was the message and who sent it :P (I know cause I had 1 on top corner of name in chat)

Q: Program does not terminate when called from udev

David PfefferI've written a program (in C#/Mono, if it matters) that probes a device to determine if it is a modem. The program works fine from the command line. However, when it is called from PROGRAM= in a udev rule, the program runs properly until the end, and then fails to terminate. As an additional pie...

9:01 PM
@MarcoCeppi just realized I'm going to be nearish your neck of the woods this week.

And the strange part is I'm still in my sleepwear 0_0

@WarriorIng64 I haven't been outside for 2 days now...

@Alvar Same!

9:45 PM
Wait...there's a Computer Janitor entry in the new Ubuntu Tweak now?
That almost makes me scared of Ubuntu Tweak now...

jrg
@RolandTaylor HAPPY COMMUNITY APPRECIATION DAY!
@WarriorIng64 yeah, there is
we're trying to rehabilitate UT into the system tweak and maintenance tool.

@jrg But Computer Janitor still gives me nightmares, which is why I switched to Ubuntu Tweak back when it was still stable for my Ubuntu version...

jrg
@WarriorIng64 Why'd it give you nightmares?

@jrg Broke my system too often (one of the main reasons it is not included by default anymore, in fact)

(no not my kid, my did not chose the dark side, he was born there...)

9:53 PM
lol

jrg
@WarriorIng64 Pretty sure a warning will be added about the possibility it can kill your system.
however, i'm not 100% sure about that.
@BrunoPereira that is either the cutest thing I've ever seen, or the creepiest.

Yeah, but it just seemed to me like Ubuntu Tweak has been more intelligent in telling you what you don't need anymore...it's not really using the Computer Janitor's code in place of whatever it was using before, is it?

jrg
No, it's not using CJ's code.
(at least, as far as i am aware of)

[sigh of massive relief]

Q: Why doesn't Inkscape recognize the Ubuntu color palettes?

Octavian DamieanInkscape 0.48.2 refuses to show my newly added Ubuntu color palettes in the color palettes selection menu. I have downloaded the Ubuntu color palettes for GIMP/InkScape from design.canonical.com, extracted the files and copied them to /usr/share/inkscape/palettes/ where all the other color palet...

Maybe it gets some love. :)

@OctavianDamiean By rights, you mean file ownership and permissions?

Oh permission! That was the word I couldn't remember. :)
Thanks.

jrg
Dangit, I knew I'd miss someone in my latest blog post. :L (that's what I HATE about lists...)

10:44 PM
Blog?

jrg
I think Jorge did the best one - he knew better than to try and list everyone. :P

It's community appreciation day? Cool!

jrg
yeah, it is community appreciation day. :)
up-to-date Marlin-dropbox and marlin-ubuntuone plugins

jrg
11:09 PM
@GeorgeEdison did you figure out a way around that python/stackapplet security exploit?

Yes, I did.
...and turns out that it will be quite easy to implement.

jrg
How do you plan on doing it?

By invoking the browser directly with a special token in the URL.

jrg
ah, clever.

It wasn't my idea, so I can't take credit :)

jrg
11:10 PM
well, doesn't change the fact it's clever. :)

I guess there will be an unexpected 1.5.1 release instead of 1.6 far down the road.

11:26 PM
@WarriorIng64 it's safe!
You don't have the same risk as the old Janitor tool.

Can you answer this? Why doesn't Inkscape recognize the Ubuntu color palettes? http://askubuntu.com/questions/80864/why-doesnt-inkscape-recognize-the-ubuntu-color-palettes #inkscape

@jrg how very exciting, whereabouts you heading?

jrg
@MarcoCeppi Well, not that close, but I'll be Gainsville.

Trello is awesome! totally unrelated I know but still

jrg
@OctavianDamiean agreed!

11:39 PM
@OctavianDamiean I love Trello
@jrg Florida?

I've used AgileZen for a long time but Trello looks better.

@OctavianDamiean That's because it's way better :)

jrg
@MarcoCeppi VA.
@OctavianDamiean AgileZen looks.... somewhat ugly. :P

Well from a UI point of view it isn't that bad, it is actually quite good but Trello is free. :)

jrg
heh, Trello is indeed free.

jrg
Ask Ubuntu meetup time! :P

Right there! Vienna! I told you Marco is an Austrian.
Oh wow, Trello must be awesome! They use Web Applications as their support platform.

jrg
Wow, Joel Spolsky is the guy behind it. ;)
That explains why'd they use webapps.se.

Ok, I feel dumb now. Hope you're happy. :D

jrg
heh. :P
